Posted July 18, 2017 01:58 PM by
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will celebrate the 20th anniversary of director Paul Verhoeven's Starship Troopers (1997) with a brand new 4K Blu-ray edition of the film. The release will be available for purchase on September 19.
Experience this sci-fi action classic like never before with all-new 4K picture and Dolby Atmos audio. This special anniversary release also includes the film on Blu-ray, featuring classic special features including director and cast commentary, deleted scenes, 19 featurettes, screen tests, and more!
Join Casper Van Dien and the filmmakers at an exclusive panel at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego on Saturday, July 22 from 7:30-8:30pm in Room 7AB. The panel will reveal exclusive footage and will be moderated by comedian/actor Stephen Kramer Glickman.
Synopsis: From the bridge of the Fleet Battlestation Ticonderoga, with its sweeping galactic views, to the desolate terrain of planet Klendathu, teeming with shrieking, fire-spitting, brain-sucking special effect creatures, acclaimed director, Paul Verhoeven crafts a dazzling epic based on Robert A. Heinlein's classic sci-fi adventure. Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Muldoon and Michael Ironside star as the courageous soldiers who travel the distant and desolate Klendathu system for the ultimate showdown between the species.

Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer return as the voices of Johnny Rico and Dizzy Flores alongside comedian and Starship Troopers superfan DeRay Davis in an all-new military adventure from the writer of Starship Troopers and Robocop, Ed Neumeier.

Come on Sony where the hell is Panic Room ??? Seriously another 4K(Format which hasnt taken off anyway) re-issue ? And we still dont have blu-rays for the Abyss, True Lies etc (
While I agree with you that we still have plenty of titles that need bluray releases, the reason 4K hasn't taken off yet is the lack of catalog titles. The announcements over the past few weeks have definitely piqued plenty of interest in the format.
Heck, now we might even get 4K releases of Abyss or True Lies without having to double dip.
Love this movie, but how well will the 1997 CGI effects hold up on 4k? Thankfully the ships were gorgeous practical models, but the bugs are mostly CGI.
M.I. does the dying, Fleet does the flying . . . and we do the spending. Now every lack of nuance and flat, two-dimensional affect in every deliberately mediocre performance will sparkle in high def!
Seriously though: I'm landing with the first wave on this one. Best war satire since Dr. Strangelove.
Awesome, may have to pick up both of these titles on UHD!! I really had wish Paul Verhoeven directed more of these flicks or a new sci-fi movie. I miss his work, Starship Troopers was his real last movie he directed here in the U.S.
One of my favorite movies - Unfortunately I won't be in for the 4K since I already have a 3D Projector and won't be upgrading anytime soon. Glad to see it is getting some 4k attention though.
"A citizen has the courage to make the safety of the human race their personal responsibility."
This one is a questionable determination as to whether 4k is worth it or not for me. The effects are dated, and it will probably looked even more flat and unnatural with higher definition. Also, film grain might be really bad, to the point where it is unnaturally saturated versus being a pleasant accompaniment.
I might pop in my blu-ray this weekend though, since THINKING about the movie makes me want to watch it again.
