Jump to navigationJump to searchThe acronym PC stands for Personal Computer, an industry standard for microcomputers introduced by IBM in the 1970s. They based it on an Intel microprocessor, but AMD and Cyrix later made compatible CPUs.
- XT models: 8086/8088 processor
- AT models: 80286 / 80386 / 80486 / or 80586 (Pentium™)
Commodore also made PC compatible computers.
- CBMxxxx (e.g. CBM 2000)
- PCxx (e.g. PC10)
Later, they produced PC compatibles based on AMD processors, like the Commodore-LT series laptop and desktop machines.
Other home computers gained short names, like the Commodore 64, which owners nicknamed the C64.
