“If I tell you to crawl on your knees for me, will you?” - for reference it’s the female character asking 🥹

“How did I do” - CAN WE ALL JUST TAKE A SECOND 😍

“You are worth it, Lucienne Peery. You are the prize. I can do this over and over again until you believe that” 😭😮‍💨

I’m lost for words that was the most attractive thing a man could like what. The fact that he did it without hesitation for her has my heart.

Lucienne is a strong and resilient girl Whos the CEO of her jewellery brand and has always been undermined by everyone in her life just because she’s a girl she never received the love or attention from her family which made my heart ache for her. But like I said she’s resilient so to take complete control over the business according to state law she needs to get married to remove her father from pulling her strings and that’s what she does.

Who doesn’t love a contractual marriage.

Sebastian is the rival company's CEO who’s now being forced by his family to marry lucienne who might I add was his half brother’s ex fiancé that was contracted to marry her in order to save her business but that broke off because he was caught having S** with lucienne’s half sister. Now being the man he is he wants revenge for being pushed in a corner he wants to strip her of her CEO title but the question is does he go through with 😏

“So based on that, I presumed Lucienne—no, no, no, I’ll be damned if I call her Lucienne like a stranger when that ex-boyfriend of hers is Lucie-ing her like they still have something going on” 🥵😮‍💨

“What the…? She’s my sister!” He tries to shout, but it comes out as a half whine, half wheeze.

“She’s my wife. Nobody touches what’s mine.”

This was definitely a cute read Sebastian was possessive over lucienne since the start and the way he protected her against everyone including her own family claiming he hated her was the best. The way he always picked up how insecure she was about her body and always put her first was the icing on the cake. I love how jealous he was of her ex bf officiating the wedding and them smiling at each other like it’s a contract marriage and you don’t ‘like’ her . The way he thought she was smiling at him only to realise it was at her ex was the best😂😂😂

“All’s fair in love and war. And this is love”

Some one get this man an Oscar because wow he’s something else. 😍😍😍

The one thing I’ll criticise is after seeing Lucienne for her true self Sebastian was still going along with his plan which didn’t make sense because if you can see she’s not what you thought she was and your falling for her why carry on it doesn’t make sense but I’m gonna let that slide because come on the MAN CRAWLED ON HIS KNEES FOR HER definitely the highlight of the book 🤩

Criminally cringe :')
The day she serves him divorce papers he gets a tattoo that says EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY OF LUCIENNE PEERY
TRESPASSERS WILL BE REMOVED WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE... and she takes him back...

If you'll excuse me I'll be banging my head against a wall to get amnesia.

…rounded up because I’m a sucker for alphaholes and marriages of convenience. There was also a fairly decent amount of groveling (I would say 6/10, but enough to be satisfactory if you are a fellow grovel lover).

A few minor things here and there kept this from being a solid 4+ star, but based on what I said above and what I know about myself, I have a feeling I’ll re-read this again sometime.

Made it all the way through but gosh I despise this book.

Wtf was that?

Whiniest Male character ever, and I’m supposed to believe that he’s 34 years old? Sure Jan,
The FMC wouldn’t be so bad if only she wasn’t so dumb and naive.
Everyone is despicable, the plot had so much potential but the execution is trash.
Never again.

Trigger Warnings:

I started this for the grovel and it wasn’t long grovelling which was disappointing but it was an entertaining read. I couldn’t stop once I started, but this book wasn’t amazing imho, at points things were a lil overexaggerated and dramatic. I really liked Luce, I felt bad for her since she dealt with so much shit, she’s a misunderstood ice queen. Sebastian was immature and stupid but he was sweet, he wasn’t your typical cold CEO. I found that both Sebastian and Luce's POVs sounded exactly the same which I hated. I did find it weird that they met when she was 14 and he was 23, it was one brief interaction. They meet again 11 years later after that one interaction and he doesn’t remember her but it’s still weird sorry.

Luce has been neglected her whole life in her family, she is the heir to Peery Diamonds. Although she is the CEO of Peery Diamonds, she needs to marry to get access to her money and company. Sebastian is the CEO of a rival company and after his step-brother fucks up, he has no choice but to marry Luce. He wants nothing to do with Luce since he thinks she’s a psycho based on rumours. He plans his revenge on Luce for putting him in this position.

Now for spoilers

I enjoyed this story a lot!!!
From the first page to the last! Although I wish I didn’t have to join the author’s VIP list to get the exclusive epilogue, regardless of how much I wanted to read it.

I didn’t know it was a part from a series where the stories of some of the hero’s brothers had already been released prior to CY. However, it can be read as a standalone with no problem.

I liked the romance, the main characters and their growth, the drama was just as it should have been and of course the hero’s grovel and making amends.
The few issues I had were surpassed due to my interest in the story.

The cover was fantastic!! 🤩

trusting a booktok rec in 2023? that's on me. I'll take the L for this one. This had so much potential; age gap romance, rival companies, arranged marriage... but it down spiraled. The execution was poor af.
If somebody told me sebastian was a teenager, I'd completely believe them. For a 34 y/o man, I have never met a more whiny little kid. The way he speaks?? soso childish. When they broke up, he got a tattoo saying, "Exclusive propery of (mc) trespassers will be removed with extreme prejudice." SIR, YOU ARE 34 YEARS OLD ACT LIKE IT!!!!
There were a lot of "my wife" scenes, which I usually love but unfortunately don't compensate for this mess. Sebastian's vindictive plot to get back at lucienne for dragging him into the arranged marriage was MESSY and didn't even come into play til the last couple chapters. This guy rubbed his hands together like a fly and went "lemme make the most inconvenient, out of place commotion while things are going SO GOOD rn." It was so random for the plot I genuinely forgot about it during the story.
I did not care for their romance whatsoever. Not to mention, their first meeting when she was younger; which kick-started this entire book, wasn't talked about enough. It was glossed over despite it being so integral to the plot. The smut wasn't even good, and I skimmed the majority of this book just to finish.
Would never recommend it, and I'm glad I'm free x

honestly, get “my wife” tattooed on my forehead

i loooove marriage of convenience anyways but the plot of this one was so good. lucie has been screwed over by basically everyone in her life so to take back her freedom, she has to get married. the patriarchy. she forms a deal with her competitor to marry one of their heirs but when he falls through, sebastian’s up and he is not happy about it. but when he realizes most of what he’s heard about her is untrue and that she’s kinda perfect for him, he’s suddenly “my wife” “my wife”

poor lucie could not catch a break but i loved that sebastian saw who she really was and then was like nah, fk the rest of these people. you’re the best, let’s sue and fire everyone, xoxo gossip girl.

the chemistry between these two 🤭 so many cute gestures and grand gestures. i’m just obsessed. minus half a star because i wanted 200 pages of pure revenge on all the sucky people.

4.5 🌟!

I devoured this book in one day. I couldn’t put it down. It has all that hit ingredients like an Icy but self dependent and successful heroine who bends for no one, an alpha billionaire hero, a bunch of lovely secondary characters, hot scenes, passionate love, drama, angst, grovelling and slight suspense.

For some reason this book Reminded me of King of Pride. I also enjoyed the writing style of the author and her attention detail.

Definitely recommended and will read more from this author.

-she falls first but he falls harder.
-marriage of convenience, forced proximity.
-angst, drama, grovelling.

I look at him levelly. “What will you do to even the scales for me, then?”
“Anything,” he says, holding my eyes.
His response is too easy. I’ve heard so many men glibly say whatever
they need to say to get what they want.
I pull my hand out of his and take five long steps back. He watches, his
eyes dark. “If I tell you to crawl on your knees for me, will you?”
“For you?” A corner of his mouth lifts, as though he’s saying, That’s all?
“Over the proverbial mile of broken glass.”
Skepticism lingers. Words. Such easy words.
He drops to his knees. My lips part as a stunned breath leaves me.
He crawls toward me. He should look small—servile, even. But instead,
he seems oddly powerful and resolute—like a man who knows what he
wants and is going to do anything to get it. His eyes ensnare mine, and I can’t
move as he closes the distance between us.
He stops when he’s only an inch away from the tip of my shoes. He looks
up with a smile. “How did I do?”
I remain speechless. I’m not worth him throwing away his pride and
doing this… I don’t have anything left for him to take.
His face grows taut, like he can read what’s flashing through my head. He
wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me flush against him. “You are
worth it, Lucienne Peery. You are the prize. I can do this over and over again
until you believe that.”
Tears prickle my eyes. I lay my left hand on his hair. “This is unfair. You
weren’t supposed to fight this dirty. You were just supposed to ply me with
pretty words over dinner.”

I'm too old for this shit. 😂😂I reckon the writing style I came across might be more suited for a younger crowd, possibly influenced by K-dramas or Korean culture. The main characters, being in their 30s and 20s respectively, have banter that's straight out of a teenage conversation. Not sure about the author's age, but the writing seems to reflect the gusto of a teenage fan. Mate, having worked with a Korean company for heaps of years, I can confidently say that K-dramas are a fair dinkum departure from reality. And the hero crawling on the ground? Sebastian, are ya a worm?😂😂😂 t's as strange as a drop bear at a BBQ! 😂😂😂 Anyway, I've got no plans to continue this series or read any more books from this author.

This book started off typically in the sense of the mcs needing an arranged marriage for "reasons" . In this case it was the h who needed the marriage and because of a couple of chance encounters over the years she wanted the H. Due to some miscommunication she ended up engaged to his brother but he cheated and the H was basically forced by his family to step in. Living together the two eventually fall in love.

****
I expected to be bored, marriage of convenience usually only works for me in mafia books but oh the feels in this one❤ got me straight in the heart and made me just want to smother the h in love. She truly had some shitty people in her life and I'm glad the H made them pay
I wasn't a fan of the H in the beginning tbh, I would expect a relative celebrity to be cognizant of the fact that not everything you read in the tabloids is true and to form his own opinion of her but boy when his j/p side kicked in? Swoon worthy
H messed up and gave pretty ok grovel.... Now I'm hard to please on groveling in my romance books but this one was ok
All in all my first read by this author but I'll definitely try her again

Arranged marriage
 Her cheating ex-fiancé’s older brother
 Sassy jewelry heiress
 Billionaire
 Childhood encounter
 Enemies (?) to lovers
 Forced proximity
 Revenge
 He grovels
OWD (minor, but it leads to filthy seggs)
 Possessive hero
 My Wife

No cheating
At the beginning he had a girlfriend but broke up with her to marry the h
h was engaged to his brother but I don't know if they had sex...I'm choosing to believe not

Enjoyable MOC story where for a change the heroine wants the MOC so she can meet the ridiculously antiquated terms of her grandfather's will that will allow her to be CEO of the business. She strong arms the H into the marriage (even though she sweetened the deal with a business to toss him) and he holds a grudge but falls for her. The heroine isn't a little wimpy type and stays pretty stoic until the bitter end and it gets too much for her.

The H is actually pretty nice and protective once he gets over his snit, and boy does this heroine need protecting. Everybody is out to get her. everybody! It was actually kind of depressing, and I felt sorry for her: family/friends near and dear and not so dear betray her. Her father is a backstabber, she's had two fiancees cheat on her (her half-sister slept with one), and the hero, despite being a business tycoon, drops the ball in a big way. Fictional toxic friends & family can be fun, but it was almost too much except for the fact that epic comeuppances were headed there way.

Her business is jewelry, and the expansion into Korean engagement couple rings was pretty interesting. There's a HEA, and boy did she earn it.

P.S.
One of the Amazon reviewers felt the book was racist toward Koreans, but I'm not sure if I missed something as it seemed more positive in exploring what is a really sweet tradition for engaged Korean couples. If someone can explain why and how it was racist I'm all ears.

could have been a decent book if the characters had ANY chemistry between each other or if the plot was any good or if any character was written well. But no, this book lacked everything.
Also, how is it possible for an author to make literally each and every character so annoying ??
Sebastian was the weirdest person EVER. after being forced into the marriage he decides he wants to take revenge and strip her of her title as CEO of her company. sets the plan in motion and FORGETS ALL ABOUT IT until the day before JUST WHEN HE CONVENIENTLY comes to the conclusion that “i CARE for her”?????????? only to get her back with MINIMUM groveling ( he crawled like a toddler for a minute to her????? (THATS NOT GROVELING, that’s just a weird fetish) ) and a cringey ass tattoo over his heart that says “EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY OF LUCIENNE PEERY, TRESPASSERS WILL BE REMOVED WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE” !!!??!!?!?
Sebastian needs to be put down for that tattoo.

When I tell you that I *devoured* this arranged marriage romance that is full of soapy goodness.

Here we have a sweet, hardworking but misjudged FMC who has been wronged by her greedy family, and a possessive MMC who is not pleased to be strong-armed into a marriage to a scandalous jewellery heiress… until he’s all “mine” and “my wife” and plotting to combine bedrooms.

The storyline is nothing new (it felt like a combo of King of Wrath by Ana Huang and Forever After All by Catherine Maura), but I LOVED it. Something about these soapy romances are so comforting to me.

I only wish we could have seen a really satisfying revenge on the FMC’s family scene. I’m vindictive, so I love a detailed revenge scene.

DNF @ 10% - I don’t like the h - I prefer someone softer and blameless. I like the bad people getting their due but I prefer for the H to do the revenging, not the h… she’s too cold and career focused for me. And the H’s PoV is cringetastic. I stopped in the middle of his chapter to go review diving and sure enough, my concerns were confirmed in the non-ARC reviews. The H is major tool. 🤷🏼‍♀️

✌🏻not for me

What awful people

This poor heroine had more toxic people in her life than Doan's had pills. No-one ever treated her right and she was betrayed and I mean betrayed by everyone in her life, including the hero. She had a great capacity for forgiveness though and how she survived with her awful parents and half siblings I don't know. She married the H to get control of her inheritance which her family was spending lavishly, and her Father was robbing her blind to boot. I felt for her seriously throughout the book, and then she's hit with two horrid betrayals but she doesn't fall apart. She tries to make herself stronger. I liked that the hero groveled for his actions, and I do mean groveled. On his knees. What he did was so wrong, yes he tried to fix it, but it was too late. The epilogue was good too. I really enjoyed this book but it kind of dragged in the middle. I was torn between a three and a four star read, but I upped it because of the heroine.

this book felt 300 pages longer than it was. i don’t know how i made it all the way through

it started off good, but i have no idea how it derailed to the point that it did… i guess we just got to know sebastian better…?

frankly, he was a piece of shit. i couldn’t even enjoy the groveling at the end bc i couldn’t make myself root for the guy at all

there was literally no relationship between luce and sebastian until AFTER he pulled his bullshit revenge plan that he somehow forgot he had orchestrated, only remembering it the moment he realized he loved her yet ofc it was too late

and then he didn’t even seem that sorry about it???? not until she left him at least

don’t even get me started on the misogyny littered throughout this book (from the mmc and his brothers) while the sexism luce faces as a female CEO is a major plot point… YUCK

the tattoo was the final straw for me. i would’ve dnf then and there had i not been like 96% through

First Impressions
Contractually Yours if the 4th installment in the "Lasker Brothers" series but this is my first book from this author. I was recommended this book by a friend on bookstagram as she knows how much I adore arranged marriage. So I quickly grabbed this one up even though its the middle of a series, but from what I could tell, this series can be read as standalones. I also found that the blurb to this story to be so fascinating and the title alone held my fascination. This is a story though that really worked and we also see that both our hero and heroine have so much in common especially in how their families treat them. Its a story that really brings together both characters that are also wealthy in their own rights and such great competense porn to satisfy any reader.

First Line
Nobody should like murder when they're listening to "il est ne le divin enfant".

Summary
Sebastian and Lucianne first met when they were younger. Sebastian was in his early twenties and Lucianne when she is a teenager. The encounter is what emboldens Lucianne to battle the best against her family and not let their shenanigans win over her desire to claim what is hers and to hold her own against such betrayals living in a house of snakes that only want her money and nothing else. Now its been years later and Lucianne has never forgotten the man that gave her wise advice and when her fiancee is found cheating on her with her sister who has been her enemy since she was a teenager, there is one man that she would marry and makes a offer to his family. But what she doesn't know is that Sebastian's family forces him into a loveless marriage, and he vows for revenge against those that would force him into such a agreement. But as Sebastian and Lucianne come together in their marriage, there is an outside force working to undermine them but will they discover the culprit or will their marriage suffer the betrayals and secrets that are ahead for them?

What I Loved
I absolutely adored Contractually Yours. It was such a delight. There is something so fun about reading a arranged marriage. I really found this story so fascinating. What I really liked is that we got the story to start with these two characters meeting when they are young and just learning about themselves and their own strengths. We see them then as adults taking charge of their families companies and doing what is necessary to maintain control over their own lives. Both Sebastian and Lucianne come from families that are determined to control them but both of them have such passionate warrior hearts willing to do whatever it takes to be independent from their families desires for them and forge their own paths. They are much more alike than either of them realize.

I really found their chemistry just right, I loved how well they fit together even though their marriage is a bit rocky at first they also have such common ground with each other. And eventually they both see that for each other but it does take time. I also was endeared by the way in which they will protect each other from those that would undermine them. I really enjoyed their connection and what a great team they make together (tennis match is a prime example) and I loved the whole mystery behind the one trying to divide them and their business interests. It was quite a fun plot development. And the grovel at the end was just right and felt authentic in its moment although the heroine was a bit too hard on the hero, just sayin'.

What I Struggled With
The third act! LOL I really don't understand authors using this so much but honestly you could see this breakup happening from the very beginning of the story and there were some plot holes that happen throughout this one here. I was so saddened by it if I am being honest because there were just some answers I wanted our characters to get that they didn't receive. And I felt like the heroine should have forgiven the hero earlier than she did. She dragged it out way too much. The hero does bad sure, but he makes an effort to real show his love for her.

Overall View
Contractually Yours is a intellectually superb romance that delivered with so much heart, tenacity and compelling writing that left me yearning for more from this author!

Simmering cup of tea---soft warm touches and light intimacy
Warmin' by the fire- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments.
Steamin' up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.
Blazing fire to the building-The prime focus is the sex scenes, scorching hot, and could burn one. Less focus on the emotional intimacy to the relationship.

I’ve only ever read one other book by this author, and this was a MUCH better final product. The editing, writing, and storytelling were all vastly improved. It was an enjoyable read and the audio (I listened to the last half) was engaging as well. (Sebastian York and Maxine Mitchell) My only complaint (and it’s a personal thing) was that it was low on drama and slow at times.

I read too much into the blurb and thought this would be MORE. I kept waiting for something to happen, there were enough “villains” that could’ve had more page time actively stirring things up, but nothing really happened until the end. One we knew was coming because we were told of the plan most of the book, and the other “twist” was SUPER obvious, and I saw it coming early on.

Bottom Line- This was alright. I found it low on drama (for soap) and a tad cheesy at times. I thought the ending was rushed and parts were skipped over like all the comeuppance and stuff like his brothers’ making amends. There had to have been some uncomfortable feelings there after the fact, and the next time they’re mentioned they are part of their “orbit or constellation”. I would’ve liked to see more of the after.

Where do I even begin with this one? There wasn't a single character I truly liked in this book. Most were narcissistic, gaslighting bullies. When all side characters are awful, it just becomes bland and repetitive. Lucie had EVERYONE in her life betray her. Bianca's betrayal, her supposed best friend, made no sense other than to be another person who betrayed her. Then the audacity for all of these people to come back in some way demanding kindness from her? It was frustrating.

Sebastian starts to change his mind about Lucie in a positive way and continues to think of taking her company away from her because that's a "separate matter of their 'couple stuff'." Sure, because trusting and supporting one's partner definitely isn't part of "couple stuff."

Lucie and Sebastian met when she was young and that meeting came back later in the story, but not in any substantial way that made it really connect. That could have been handled better. Their relationship was lackluster.

I wanted a good MOC story and this one fell quite short.

I wanted to like this more than I did. It had potential but it fell flat. At the core of it, none of the central characters are likable. The H/h are both unbearable. Their families are worse. Her family is filled with caricatures of cartoon villains and she’s mistreated, misunderstood and abused. H’s family isn’t much better and that includes his brothers and I’ve read 2 out of the 3 other books. I’m honestly not sure how I keep on getting suckered back into reading them. They aren’t like completely terrible but also not really good. The only one I haven’t read is Grant’s books and you couldn’t pay me money to read it.

The only reason I rated this 3 stars instead of 2 is that Sebastian does grovel. Now, I wouldn’t have personally forgiven him here but this author - like so many others - isn’t skilled at writing a grovel so they don’t try. I’ll give an e tea star for effort. Why wouldn’t I forgive him here? He took too fucking long to realize he shouldn’t be doing what he did. If this had been me - I’d have accepted what he did to fix his colossal betrayal and then told him to fuck all the way off and never grace my presence again.

His betrayal? He actively worked to oust her as CEO from her company, soliciting help from his douchebag brothers. In the beginning his plan was understandable because he felt she had trapped but he starts to see things for as they truly are pretty much immediately and he continues to plot her downfall because he’s a pathetic manchild.

There is mild OW drama. He’s dating someone when the whole arranged marriage thing happens. They weren’t in love or anything so it was easy to break off. OW is scattered throughout the book but he doesn’t want her back nor does she really want him but it’s a device to hurt the h because she thinks H loves her. 🙄.

A legit conversation I had with myself:

“I wonder why I stopped reading books I saw on TikTok”
A few chapters later
“Never mind. Thats why” 🙂
