Terrific book. I loved the original Ryland series, and this one has been just as good. This book is about Nate's daughter, Kim, and Theo Sheldon, whom Grayson and Eve took in after Theo's parents were murdered and his sister kidnapped. Twenty-one years earlier, Kim was spending the night with her best friend, Faith, when it happened. Kim still experiences nightmares of that night, which is where this book opens.
When Kim awakened from yet another nightmare about that night, she knew she couldn't go back to sleep. While going through her stack of mail, she discovered another letter - the eighth one received over several years. All said the same thing, "Help me. Please help me," and were addressed to "Kimmie." She first calls Theo, who took over as sheriff when Grayson retired. As if the letter wasn't bad enough, a scream from outside her home had them rushing to investigate. Hiding in Kim's barn is a terrified young woman who claims to be Theo's missing sister, Faith.
Within hours, Theo confirmed that she was Faith. A man shows up, claiming to be Faith's fiancé and saying that she escaped from a mental hospital. Someone shoots at Kim, Theo, and Faith through a hospital window. A man set to go on trial for domestic abuse (prosecuted by ADA Kim) is a person of interest. Is the murderer/kidnapper trying to cover his tracks, or is this an enemy of Kim's or Theo's? The twists and turns of this investigation kept me glued to the pages as Theo and Kim uncovered the truth behind that night. As usual with the author's books, there are many questions, multiple suspects, and plenty of suspense right up to the final confrontation.
I enjoyed watching the relationship develop between Kim and Theo. There has always been something there, but their shared trauma has kept them apart. Their chemistry is evident from the start, as is the emotional baggage that makes them avoid each other whenever possible. But working together on this case begins to break down those walls, as does Faith's reappearance. I loved watching their shields drop as they gave in to their feelings for each other. I loved the scene at the end when Nate saw them together and muttered, "It's about time."
One of the best things about this series and this book was seeing so many of the characters from the first series become part of the story. These men may be retired, but they are still law enforcement down to the bone. They are also Rylands and will always be there to support one of their own.
I love this book better than the first two books💖💜💖💜💖
He heard Nadia drag in a long breath. “All right. I’ll see both of you when you come over.” Theo couldn’t help it. He smiled. Nadia wasn’t exactly jumping for joy over his feelings for Kim, but she wasn’t hostile about them either. That was a good start. In fact, there’d been a lot of good starts today. And that’s why he ended the call, turned to Kim and kissed her. He poured a lot of emotion into that kiss. A lot of hope, too. Because he had no doubts about his feelings for her, no doubts that he wanted her in his life. The kiss lingered a lot longer than it should, especially considering this was a crime scene—with her father and uncles watching. Still, Theo had needed it. Judging from Kim’s sound of pleasure, she had needed it as well. He finally pulled back and looked her in the eyes. Amazing eyes that he’d hopefully get to see every morning, every night. Forever. “I’m in love with you, Kim,” Theo said. Not mere words but a promise. She smiled, and though there were tears in her eyes, he knew these were happy ones. “Then, we’re the luckiest people on earth because I’m in love with you. And you’re going to need to say those words over and over to me again because I want to hear them a whole lot of times.” “No problem,” Theo assured her. He could tell her he loved her, well, forever.
Theo Sheldon is now the sheriff in town. Kim Ryland is the ADA working on a case with him. Theo lost his parents to murder and Kim was at the home that night 21 years ago. Faith Sheldon was kidnapped when she was eight; and BFF with Kim. Theo and Kim have the hots for each other; but have always steered clear of doing anything about the heat. Kim receives another letter from the killer/kidnapper. While Theo is at her home a woman screams and they find her in the barn. Is this Faith come back to town? Wonderful suspense story and who is the killer/kidnapper and why has Faith shown back up now?
Another in the Silver Creek Lawmen: Second Generation series, in which the murder of Sheriff Theo Sheldon's parents 21 years earlier comes back to haunt him and lawyer Kim Ryland when Theo's sister, kidnapped the night his parents died, comes back to town under decidedly strange circumstances.
Is she really his sister? After all, she's introduced with a different name. And is the man who claims to be her fiance really on the up-and-up? Then there's the problem of bullets--someone is out to kill the woman and maybe even Theo and Kim. How can he keep them safe when the bullets keep flying in different settings?
LAST SEEN IN SILVER CREEK by Delores Fossen is the Silver Creek Lawmen: Second Generation Book 3
Delores Fossen delivers intense action, high heat, profound emotions in LAST SEEN IN SILVER CREEK. After a horrific home invasion when he was a child, Theo Sheldon fights to protect those he loves when the past threatens to destroy everyone he holds dear. The new series involving the second generation brings plot twists to this fast-paced mystery concerning an unsolved murder that will keep readers turning the pages.
What another amazing story in this series! Theo and Kim both have loved each other since childhood but because of the tragedy that occurred when they were young has kept them apart.
While investigating Theo finds a woman hiding in Kim's barn.
There is a bombshell confession that turns everything upside down. After the confession they are many attempts at killing Theo and Kim!
I must admit I thought that it wss going to be someone else behind everything but I was wrong.
Delores Flossen gives us another great, suspenseful romance in this are3rd installment of het Silver Creek Lawmen.
Sheriff Theo and Kim are childhood friends who survived a home invasion as kids that killed his parents. His sister vanished that night, too. There's always been a simmering passion between them. They've never acted on it but there feelings for each other broke up his marriage. Now they're thrown together when a woman shows up who claims to be his sister.
This is a fast paced, exciting read. I recommend it.
I think my main problem was there were too many characters. I had a hard time keeping track of who was who & if they were related. Also, I felt like I needed more character interactions. I was missing that. Especially between the romantic couple. I wanted more scenes/build up to them getting together.
I will say, this book had a ton of action in it. Something exciting was constantly happening & each chapter landed on a cliffhanger.
I just finished the third book of the Dylan's family stories. I enjoyed everyone of them and getting to know some history of the families. I will now wait for the fourth book to come. Thank you Delores Tossed for writing these interesting books. Well recommended.
I enjoyed reading this story! I was drawn in from the beginning to find out what is happening with Theo and Kim and how they deal with everything and I love the ending. just a note in Chapter 16 Deputy Mike Gonzales is in the car with Theo, Kim and Faith but the are is no mention of him in Chapter 17-19 so I don't know what happened to him.
I’m enjoying this series of books (Silver Creek Lawmen: 2nd Generation). Ms. Fossen has some fresh plot lines. I do appreciate that she doesn’t use the F word constantly as many romance writers do now, but I do wish she could find think of something a little stronger than “Mercy!” Will Damron always does a great job narrating.
