A love story between an openly gay novelist and a young man coping with grief that was recently turned into an anime film!
Ever since his parents disowned him for being gay, Shun has been living with his aunt on a small island near Okinawa. One day, he meets Mio, a high school student who recently lost his own parents and now spends his days sitting by the sea. The two young men begin to open up to each other…until Mio reveals that he’s leaving. Three years later, an adult Mio returns to the island to confess his true feelings, but is Shun ready for a relationship?
I absolutely adore this series, but this was not what I expected after waiting so long for this volume to be published. I personally felt like it was all over the place and the story is just becoming so dull. Overall, I’m feeling a bit disappointed with this volume and curious to see what the next will bring.
The last two entries (5 and 6) just really haven’t resonated with me and the story feels rather directionless. My recommendation for anyone reading this is read volumes 1-4 then stop, because those are by far the best entries and where the story is at its most interesting.
Kind of a shame, but I’m still glad I picked it up.
More and more this series is becoming just a stream of consciousness lmao definitely started to get confused during this. But I did enjoy it, I suppose.
The 5th volume of Harukaze no Étranger was an enjoyable read but I am getting a little worried. I know this manga was always just about the two main characters being cute and navigating life as two gay guys. That is still present of course and I enjoy it very much but I'm confused as to what is the endgame? Is there an ending that this manga is building to or is it a slice of life that just is. I don't know but I do not hate it. I still enjoy this manga very much
True slice of life. I really feel like you can understand the creator’s state of mind by reading this, for better or for worse. Maybe others don’t like it but I think it’s cool to see the creator and the characters growing and changing together :)
What a complete mess. I felt lost the whole volume. I had no idea what was going on.
I know that they burned down their kitchen, they moved out of his parents home, they went to Disney world, or something, they visit Tokyo and then moved in and they are living together. Both of them meet younger guys. Do they love each other, or not? It's been five years.
This story had no direction and they aren't back at the seaside. I'm giving up on this. The end said that there will be another volume, but I just don't care. This melted into a mess. I feel done with it.
What the actual fuck is going on in the story. It used to be soo so good, but now it seems like an absolute mess. I don’t think i’ll continue with this series. It all went to shit with the last volume when they focused on the younger brother and the ex-fiancee. I really wanted to know if Shun and Mio would sorta /love each other/. They don’t seem like lovers anymore even with the timeskip, they just seem like…friends in passing. Not even “best friends”.
WAHHH WAHHHH THEY ARE SO CUTE I CAN'T!!! This volume was definitely better than Volume 5 as this volume was just Shun and Mio! I love them so much literally so much they are adorable! I gotta go watch the movie for the like thousandth time now. Also I absolutely love the whole "The moon is beautiful isn't it?" As a way of saying I love you like STOPPP THAT'S SO FREAKING CUTE AND I WILL BE HOLDING ONTO THAT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFEEEE
This volume was...everywhere. I had to look back to remember what happened because a lot got jammed in. Not to mention Shun was very much out of character. He went from a 30-year-old "old man" with a midlife crisis to a cheerful man with a surge of energy. I couldn't even recall much romance going on between Mio and Shun. Some jealousy and urges, here and there, but overall they acted more like friends, and even then they didn't seem like the closest of friends.
i came away from this thinking it was very cute, but also quite confused with what actually happened.... i will say that i utterly adore the art style, even if the storytelling gets a little dreamlike and chaotic
