Maybe I was missing the more psychological aspects that I enjoy in John Athan's novels. This book was go, go, go, all action, gore, violence and suspense from the beginning to the end. And those are all good things! However, the further I read into the story, the more bizarre it got, and then I couldn't put it down. The ending stopped me cold. I would encourage the author to write a sequel or a continuing series based on Blender Babies. I will be first in line (more likely, online) to read it.

After more than 50 books, Jon Athan has still some tricks up his sleeve. (And many more are on the way, too!) 'Blender Babies' is not merely extreme horror, splatterpunk, post-apocalyptic fiction; it's a masterpiece of psychological horror - in the form of a family's attempts to survive in the middle of "The Craze," Athan's original take on the standard trope of society collapsing due to people going crazy on each other, for whatever reason. In the book, the reason lies in people getting addicted to adrenochrome (a story based on conspiracy theories about population control.) Guess where this sweet substance is found, and how it may be acquired? Yep: there it is, right on the outrageously sickening cover! But that's just the tip of the iceberg: Athan's story escalates into so much dread, plays so hard on the nerves, I found myself clenching my teeth - knowing something bad is going to happen sooner or later!- yet Athan keeps putting the screws, to the point that I was ready to climb the walls after the novel's middlepoint! The suspense definitely outplays the gore in this story. And the story is, no doubt about it, very rich, deserving a sequel or a spin-off series, the "Stories from the Craze" Athan mentions in his afterword. Very highly recommended!

Jon Athan can do no wrong in my eyes, and I love everything he writes…and this was another banger!!
Brian Turner and his pregnant wife Leslie, and son Cameron are in the car driving to restaurant, when “The Craze” hits. Six months later, they are taking refuge in a police station with some other survivors, and now have a baby daughter called Harper. Crazies are running riot, stealing babies to blend for a drug called Adreno, which is more powerful and addictive than any other drug out there. These “Baby Fiends” either kill the parents or take the mothers away to a “baby farm” to become pregnant to keep up the supply of babies.
This is a solid dystopian story, with enough gore, severed body parts, violence and torture, etc to satisfy the Splatterpunk fans. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend to anyone who likes this extreme horror genre.
Read as a group with the “Extreme Gore Whores”.

As a fan of Crossed I absolutely loved this book. I'm really hoping this novel gets alot of traction, so that more extreme horror authors will be inspired to write post-apocalyptic stories.

I went into this one with mixed thoughts with it being post apocalyptic I feared I may not like it as much as Jon’s true to life human horrors. But in true Jon style it’s written in a way where you think this isn’t all that too far fetched with all the silly social media craze’s as Jon mentioned in his author notes it’s a strange world we live in and people do get carried away with creating and carrying out craze’s to gain a social media following. A post apocalyptic, dystopian style story, this is a tense, edge of your seat read following Brian Turner and his family trying desperately to escape the hives of baby fiends searching for their next hit of adreno.

‘Survival horror expertly blended to satisfy’
As the new ‘Craze’ grips the world, Brian Turner and his young family soon realise that they need to escape and find sanctuary, if they simply wish to survive.
A really good post-apocalyptic dystopian nightmare were society has been over-run by gangs of sadistic, misogynistic baby-fiends who just live for the rush of getting high on harvested adrenochrome, the natural essence of pure baby - blended dead ones!
Lots of bloody action involving some fantastic evil characters, and a storyline which just gets better and better as the mutilation, death and destruction wonderfully ramps up into a beautifully ultimate red crescendo of absolute, and darkly wicked, uncertainty.
Expect no zombies in this one, just plenty of crazy druggies, hell bent on committing femicide and infanticide in order to get their rushes, kicks and eventual, deeply blissful satisfaction.
Thoroughly enjoyed the journey - ‘tunnel’ loads of highly imaginative creativity.
Recommended to lovers of extreme dystopian disorder, but seemingly all done with a difference.
Rating: 4.3 stars of sheer sadistic delight.

This was one savage, unpredictable read and I just loved it!! Athan really created a horrific post-apocalyptic landscape that made me so glad to be safe in my bed and not a part of this fictional world. A world where fiends crave and consume adrenochrome, a chemical found only in young babies. And how do they consume the chemical, you ask? Well that's where the title comes in 😂 Yes, they blend the babies up and eat them. But this book is focused on one particular family and their struggle to survive in this new environment, where authority doesn't exist and everybody must fend for themselves. Brian Turner finds himself questioning every decision he makes to try and keep his wife, his six year old son, and five month old daughter safe. With baby-fiends around every corner, every minute is a fight for their lives. This read is unlike any of his other books, but still delivers classic Athan violence and depravity. Blender Babies is just another example of why Jon Athan is my favorite extreme horror writer! 5/5 baby skulls ☠️

I feel guilty that I liked this book so much. Like what a foul concept for a story, but Jon executed it so well.
The tale “blends” an apocalyptic nightmare past and dystopian present with fiends craving the flesh of babies. It’s the newest drug and the hives of depraved people will stop at nothing to get their next hit. Readers follow a family as they struggle to survive.
I was honestly so tense and at the edge of my seat reading this sickening tale. Who could ever hurt children, let alone want to consume them in smoothie form.

These words were spoken by The Lord of Flesh, one of the antagonists of this book that is sure to have people clutching their pearls and rummaging for their pitchforks, just from the title and cover alone.
BLENDER BABIES was the author's first foray into apocalyptic horror, and before you start making assumptions about 'what kind of person writes such awful things', he got the idea from conspiracy theories about adrenochrome and population control. I had never heard of it, so I spent the good part of an afternoon going down rabbit holes, and...so it's not authors who are 'sick in the head'; it's the general public, and authors just capitalize on it.
The book opens with couple Brian and Leslie and their young son on their way to a Mexican restaurant. Leslie is pregnant and rightfully protective of her unborn baby, so when her husband hits a pedestrian who turns feral and starts demanding the unborn baby, immediately there is a sense of doom and horror. The book to me was a blend of the survivalist feel of 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒂𝒍𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒅 and the general unease everyone had during Covid, where conspiracy theories ran rampant. I was actually shocked that the overall content was much tamer than his previous books. The violence to babies was subdued while the carnage to the adults was more in the forefront.
While not promised in the author's notes, there is definitely room for a sequel, and I personally would love to get more insight into The Lord of Flesh. Many thanks to the author for an early copy of his book and letting me work with him on his Street Team. BLENDER BABIES will be available to the masses on November 2, 2023.

I cant really word right now. Absolutely wrecked. This was a wild ride. Literally left me breathless. Felt like I was crawling through the chaos alongside the MC and his family. That last line stole my breath away, tf?! Yes, it really is about 👶 and 🩸 but once you get past that it only gets worse. Easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because I lived in it, will most definitely be falling down a Jonny Athan rabbit hole after this macabre journey to hell on earth. Oof. I know for a fact that I would not survive this new world the MC and his family are forced to live in. And this books is written so seamlessly realistic that it’s hard to NOT picture everything that unfolds before your eyes or spills into your ears. If you enjoy post-apocalyptic slashers with a whole new spin on them, this is the book for you. I absolutely hope there will be another book to this world one day. Perhaps a continuation of the first… perhaps a side story of one of the characters who really enjoys twisted games…. I just … need … more!

I know with absolute certainty that I will never read this book again. Not because it was bad, the complete opposite! It's good.....TOO good!
Jon had me cringing in several places, most notably the meat grinder scene, and I had to take a bit of a break before diving back in. This is one of the best post-apocalyptic books I've read, and it really put a new spin on how I view the genre as a whole! Though I'm not sure I'll ever look at a blender the same way now....
Blender Babies is a desperate race for survival that kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through! I felt like I was running with Brian and was completely exhausted from the roller coaster that I was on by the end. Jon paints a visceral picture of a family's will to survive and a father's determination to save them no matter what actions he has to take.
The most horrifying thing is that this isn't super far-fetched. Not so much the actions, but the idea behind them. People are always doing wild things for trends or social media "clout." When I was a kid, we huffed dry erase markers. Recently, there have been things like the Blackout Challenge and the Skull Breaker Challenge....I could go on and on. While the idea of blending babies is absolutely horrifying, it's not so much of a stretch to think that someone will eventually escalate these social media trends into something much worse than they are currently.
This one was a ride, and I respect the hell out of Jon for being able to evoke such a powerful reaction from me that I had to step away and continue the book again the next day. It really speaks for an author's skill and abilities, and I love that as brutal as Blender Babies was, it's also thought-provoking and a master example of the places this genre could go.
Thanks so much for letting me be part of the street team and getting to read this early! Now I shall eagerly await the sequel and contemplate the Lord of the Flesh and how exactly I'd stay as far away from him as possible!

This book isn't for everyone, and I'll be the first to admit it as a mother. It was hard as hell to read. It is not as difficult as say "The Groomer " or "Lions den" because this story doesn't have that real horror feeling to it. Still, it has parts that aren't very palatable *wink*.
I will also say that, with a title like 'Blender Babies', I went in expecting a lot more violence and depravity against its younger characters. And while the violence against children is present, it's not overly gratuitous. Personally, I think that Athan balanced the violence and story perfectly. It was definitely tamer than I thought it would be, but it's still so addictive!
This book is outlandish and disgusting, but in many ways, it still manages to touch on the truths within human depravities. Athan simply has a talent for doing that. Are people going around in real life blending babies? Well, no.... Although I went down one hell of a rabbit hole about adrechrome thanks to this book. As a whole, does humanity have serious issues with addictions? Absolutely. Addiction ( no matter the kind) destroys individuals, communities, and families, and we see it over and over in gory detail from page one all the way until its end.
Blender Babies is a unique take on dystopian horror, and Athan did a solid job in the world building and also managed to make some very horrific and yet intriguing villains. Honestly, I would, without question, read a book about 'The Lord of Flesh'. He was the most vile of the characters, and yet he was the one who I was left wanting more from.
Another phenomenal book from Athan, and I highly recommend adding it to your TBR if all its triggers check out!

Well, we all know where the inspiration for this book comes from. ;)
I had my fun with this book, but overall it felt bland to me. It has a lot of action and very explicit gore and violence, but I never felt attached to the characters and so most of the stuff did not get to me. I like the wtf factor in extreme horror, which lacks here completely. The premise with the baby blending wasn't a bad one, but it did not make for a innovative story. Replace the crazy guys with zombies or other crazy guys from similar stories and you have just more of the same we had hundreds of times before. I'm probably fed up on this kind of survival horror.

Read as part of the 2024 Books of Horror Indie Brawl. This book was seated 32nd. BOH score 2.9 stars.
I almost skipped this book in the challenge. I enjoy splatter punk, but am not really interested in extreme violence and gore just because the author wants to see how extreme they can go before readers will refuse to read the work. Between the title and the book description, that is what I saw in the book.
But, I wanted to give the book a shake so I read it. Now this was NOT a great book, there are several plot points I just could not swallow, but was this the worst book I have ever read..... no. Was this the worst book I have read in 2024.... again, no. That title goes to The Auction. ( You Suck Elci North!). This book was better than I expected, but I'm not sure it belonged in the Brawl.
I almost skipped this book in the challenge. I enjoy splatter punk, but am not really interested in extreme violence and gore just because the author wants to see how extreme they can go before readers will refuse to read the work. Between the title and the book description, that is what I saw in the book.
But, I wanted to give the book a shake so I read it. Now this was NOT a great book, there are several plot points I just could not swallow, but was this the worst book I have ever read..... no. November 26, 2023Idk why I decided to read this because I don’t like post-apocalyptic fiction. I love Jon Athan though, so it was tolerable.
I think Athan has recently been fleshing out some good full-length stories. If you’re into extreme horror and post-apocalyptic stories, I highly recommend this.

I love Jon Athan so much, he's one of my favorite author, but this book didn't hit the spot for me.
I felt like I was not invested in the characters we met. Most of the story is running from something or running to something.
I know the author wanted a bit of mystery around "the craze", but maybe I would have been more interested in the story, if I knew why it happened.

WTAF did I just read! This is a well written post-apocalyptic story full of emotion, action and loaded with gore. I recommend this to anyone who loves extreme horror. This book is only for veteran splatterpunk fans. One of Jon Athan's very best.

Blender Babies is a fantastic post-apocalyptic survival story. Along with the gruesome gore that Jon Athan is known for, there is a core story of a father's love for his child and the great lengths he would go to protect his family.
Excellent character development- both good and evil and this story is tight and fast paced! Would love a sequel!!!

Omg this book. Jon Athan is known for gore, and for good reason, but this book definitely delivered in my favorite gore scenes. The character development is all around great, and i found myself feeling like i know this character lol. The lengths a loving father will go to protect his family know no end. This book is a really crazy look into a gore filled post apocalyptic hell.

Based on what I’ve read by Jon, this is more on the tame side as far as gore goes 🤔 still, I really enjoyed it! Cool concept, and several sub-plots would definitely be worth exploring in sequels. I need me some more Lord of The Flesh stuff okay 😂 that pepper game had me SQUIRMING.

Well, this one is not for the faint of heart. It's graphic and disturbing, yet told well. The writing is good, the story, while quite disgusting, is different, and the graphic detail, in which much of it is told, is done well.
The title gives the plot away quickly, so let that be your basis for deciding whether to read it.
