Well, finally after a series of disappointing sequels this year (Rebel Heart, Insurgent, The Calling) I've found a book that was even better than its predecessor. I think Rossi has gone even further with this installment, building on her characters and their relationships with one another, creating a number of funny, sad and ultimately memorable little moments that made me even more invested in the bigger picture. What she does best here is get the balance right between fast-paced action/adventure scenes and character development, I now have no doubt in my mind as to whether I'll be reading the next book.

In Through the Ever Night, Perry and Aria face many challenges to their relationship and to their lives. Now that Perry is Blood Lord of the Tides, he carries all the responsibility for the welfare of his people and it turns out to be a very heavy burden. Not only that, but the Tides are not so ready to welcome Aria and some of them begin to question whether Perry is a suitable leader or too governed by his heart. Roar becomes an even more prominent character too (and possibly my favourite) and I really liked the way Rossi managed to successfully write a platonic and convincing relationship between male and female characters of roughly the same age - this doesn't happen too often unless the guy is the stereotypical "gay friend".

Another thing I noticed - and was a refreshing change to the genre - is that the author allows bad stuff to happen. What I mean by this is that the good guys don't always get what they want and sometimes things don't end with a happily ever after - I just appreciate this more realistic approach to storytelling. In real life, not everything works out for the good people and Rossi shows that here.

The funny thing is, that of all those sequels I was looking forward to, Through the Ever Night was the one I was anticipating the least for some reason. But this suspenseful, action-packed read was pretty fabulous, I don't think fans of the first will have anything to worry about because this sequel takes all the elements that we loved from Under the Never Sky and multiplies them by a hundred. I enjoyed it immensely and I can't imagine I will be forgetting the hilarious duet scene with Aria and Roar for a long while.

Before reading:

Who is this dude and what has he done with Perry?

Okay, firstly: "His hair looked like it had never seen a brush. Snarled blond ropes, all uneven in length and color, coiling in every direction." - pg 110 Um, so not only has he shopped at Abercrombie & Fitch since the last book, he's also found time for a cut and dye job.

Secondly, this is totally not the Perry I was picturing after the first cover was:

All shirtless and wild hair and perhaps you can't just ask people this but I can't help myself so:

Sixth Time Read Review:

I actually have finished reading this book some time last month. But I hadn’t had the chance to update it on here. Well, I actually have nothing to say. The number of time of my rereads of this book says it all. Lol. In short, THIS SERIES FUCKING OWNS MY HEART and makes me so soft. 🥺

Fifth Time Read Review

No matter how many times I read it, I always find myself laughing, crying, grinning, smiling, swearing while reading the book. This trilogy just means a lot to me. It has taught me so many things and it changed how I looked at myself, other people and the world and I think I learnt self-respect and self-love with the help of this trilogy. I’m forever grateful for the existence of this trilogy in this world. 💖

I also chose this trilogy to be analyzed for my upcoming thesis and wow. I am so freaking happy and nervous! Later, I‘ll have the chance to talk about this trilogy in front of my lecturers and my friends. This is probably not a review of this book, but this is truly how I feel toward the trilogy and my thoughts of this book is still the same with the old reviews that I wrote here. Just scroll down a bit, you’ll read my old reviews of it. 😊

Thank you for reading and liking this review! I appreciate so much. Hope you all have a great day. ☺️

Fourth Time Read Review

Then he told Perry that love was like the waves in the sea, gentle and good sometimes, rough and terrible at others, but that it was end-
less and stronger than the sky and the earth and everything in between.

Oh wow. The emotions I felt while reading this book was incredibly. I laughed out loud. I grinnned. I smilled. I cried. I sobbed and many more. This is the fourth time I reread it and still nothing changed. I still love the book the same and I found myself laughing out loud and crying in some scenes even though I had read those scenes several times.

I actually don't know what to say in this review. It's just that this book is so amazing. No wait, it's incredible and this trilogy worths one thousand stars. I love it so much. The platonic relationship between Aria and Roar was written very well and I could see it clearly that they cared for each other and their friendship was honestly so sweet! I WANT MY OWN ROAR TOO YOU KNOW. I would feel really happy if I had a best friend who were like Roar. I still remember years ago when I was in high school, I kept wishing and wishing to have a male best friend, which sadly didn't happen.

The romance in this book was also very good! Perry and Aria! Omg. Their love for each other was so heartwarming and I could feel the spark and their love for each other. I LOVE PERRY SO MUCH AND THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE. Sometimes, it's really shocking for me when I think that I've been loving Perry since I was 15 and a half. And I'm almost 20 years old now but I still love him the same. Even my close friends get bored or annoyed or both every time I talk about Perry because I have mentioned him in our conversation like ... a lot of times and I also tell them how wonderful this trilogy is. Lol sorry not sorry. I just can't help it. 😂😂

Basically, I recommend you all to read this trilogy. It's SO amazing! Thank you for reading and liking this review. I hope you all have a great day! ❤️

Third Time Read Review

MINI REVIEW IS POSTED

My thoughts about this book is practically the same as the first and the second time I read it. It is the third time I read this book, but when I read it for the third time, I found out some information about this book that I didn't know. I don't know whether I didn't catch these information the first and the second time I read it or maybe I forgot them? *shrugs*

This book is more frustrating compared to the first book. The first book was fun for me, but this book ... wow, it was just so frustrating and I felt like I wanted to yank my hair. Wait ...maybe, I did that already.
Just one question that I've been asking myself since the day I finished reading it for the third time, HOW COME I STILL CRIED OVER SOMETHING I ALREADY KNEW? I'm so impressed. Even though, that was my third time reading the book, it still managed to make me cry.

If you want to know more about what I think toward this book, you can read my second time read review. It's basically the same opinion as the third time I read it. I highly recommend you guys to read this trilogy! 😊😊

Second Read Review

The moment Aria had taken his hand on the roof at Maroon's, she'd changed everything. No matter what happened, she'd always be the one.

OMG THIS BOOK! IT WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST BOOK! This book fills with more action scenes and more romantic scenes and my love to Perry seems stronger day by day. AAAAA I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY ON THIS REVIEW. well let me start we this

I FREAKING READ THIS BOOK WHILE I WAS IN FEVER. I got fever weeks ago until I didn't go to school ( to be honest, there was a part of myself that was happy because I could read instead of going to school hahaha ) and my head was dizzy but I kept reading this book because I just couldn't stop and this book was ruined me! it made me cry while I was in fever. this book broke my heart so badly and this was the second time I read this book but nothing changed. I still felt hurt. I still cried and the worst part was that I HAVE NO ONE TO TALK ABOUT THIS BOOK. so I was just in my room and stared blank at the wall and I started my days like usual, like nothing happened. like nothing happened at all

this was how I looked like on the outside after I finished reading it. like my life was just perfect
description

but I looked like this on the inside
description

I just loved this book so much. this book was perfect. everything I have ever wanted was in this book.

bromance ✓
no love triangle ✓
friendship between boy and girl that doesn't end up being couple ✓
awesome story ✓
sweet romance ✓
no insta love

if you haven't read the first book then stop reading this review and close your phone or your laptop and go buy the book RIGHT NOW.

I swear I don't know what I should say about this book. this book ruined my life and I realized that I already said that. basically, everything was hurt and I'm tired of feeling hurt.

I both love and hate Perry.

I HATE HIM FOR RUINING MY LIFE. I HATE HIM FOR RUINING MY HEART. I HATE HIM FOR MAKING ME CRY. I HATE HIM FOR MAKING ME FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM. I HATE HIM. I HATE HIM. I HATE HIM. I HATE HIM. I HATE HIM. I HATE HIM. I HATE HIM. I HATE HIM . I HATE HIM.

TIP: DONT read your favorite book series when you're sick. I finished it without much feels and was not able to dive and lose myself into the story. I know, the blame is on me. Will read again. :)

Through the Ever Night is the second book in this series and the story is indeed getting better!

The story picked up quickly after what was left in the previous book and Veronica successfully managed to create much more twists in this sequel. Those unsolved problems in the first book were perfectly answered, though she left me with even more mysteries. Luckily, we get to meet amazingly new people here, both good ones and villains. Let me start with Kirra, the Scire girl I HATED most beside Sable and Hess. According to the Tide and Sable’s deal, Sable promised to aid them whatever they needed so he sent Kirra and her best men to the Tide’s territory and protected their people. Sounds pretty benevolent of him, right? WRONG!!!!!!! SO WRONG ON A THOUSAND DIFFERENT LEVELS!!!!! Here what people said, There’s no such thing as a free lunch. Sable indeed had something to gain from the Tide, something else from what he already owned. But this was almost the end of the book, so I’ll get back to the start when Kirra met Perry. I knew her intension from the moment she showed up in front of Perry and it was rather obvious. I mean, she was a Scire, and so was he. She was curvy, beautiful, seductive, and always got whatever she wanted; in contrast, he was uncertain about himself after Aria left him abruptly. She could easily read his deepest thoughts and sense his temper around him, while he was easily convinced and too indecisive when his men turned out to be not that loyal to him after the chaos.---> See what I’m implying?
Perry wanted to say yes. He didn’t want to be a fool who’d given his heart to a girl who’d left him. Didn’t want to feel weak anymore.
He didn’t answer, but Kirra came nearer anyway. Closer than she should have. He couldn’t ignore the shape of her body any longer, or the smile on her lips.

Clearly, I’m making you to hate her as much as I did. (I know I’m terrible, but I just can’t stand anyone of you like/love/adore her!)

Okay, enough for the villain, let’s move on to some good and funny characters, shall we?
We all know that Perry became the Blood Lord of the Tide after the quick battle with his brother, Vale, in the previous book, and now he just bumped into a group of awesome fighters who happened to be somewhere in the woods in the same day he thought he’d never see Aria again. Anyway, those six men became his most loyal followers and they grew on me bit by bit. They shared some hilarious banters at times and never failed to lighten the mood in the story.
“He’s so unlucky it’s almost lucky,” Gren said. “It’s like he has reverse luck.”
“He’s reverse good-looking, too,” said Hyde.
“I’m going to reverse punch you,” Strag said to his brother.
“That was reverse smart, man. It means you’re going to punch yourself.”

The author definitely did a great job in playing with words! That’s her writing style, though. It’s still very enjoyable for me.

Alright, back to the villain part, I’m going to introduce someone awfully evil and cold-blooded to you. He was the notorious Blood Lord of the Horn, Sable. I’ve never, ever loathed any fictional character like this and he undoubtedly crowned my all-time-despised list. Ugh. Wait until you see what he did to Liv, MY BELOVED LIV from the beginning of the series, or even prior to the main story, and I PROMISE you’ll feel me. All the rage and undeniable anger I roused at the exact moment. Simply put, this picture sums up most of my feeling.

Or maybe you can take a look at what I mean, but I sense the need to warn you beforehand, it hurts. Like, real hurts.

I suppose it’s the spell Veronica kept casting in this series. She’d make you swoon from the head all over to the toes and then back up to your head again. Then the very next minute, she’d shatter your heart into a zillion pieces that sometimes I wonder how many times it can break like this. To be honest, the raw emotion was too intense to bear, let alone repeating it more than once. I didn’t feel like wailing or sobbing when those moments happened (which was weird because I think I should), but the ache I felt in my heart was so real. So if you want to test how strong your heart is, go ahead and read this.

After reading this book, I truly realized what the so-called La La Land of Reality was. There were way too many perfect, dreamy things that only existed in our imagination, or Aria’s.
She pictured Perry and Talon together, fishing at the end, content and relaxed. Cinder would be there too, watching them, holding his hat to keep it from blowing away. She imagined Liv and Roar nearby, whispering to each other, planning some kind of mischief that would lead, inevitably, to someone being tossed into the water. And she would be there. She’d sing something gentle and pretty. A song that would hold the sway of the waves and the warm feel of the sun. A song that would capture how she felt for all of them.

Most of the time I wasn’t sure what kind of reaction or feeling should I have when dealing with these beautiful, unrealistic, not-going-to-come-true fantasies. Of course I was ecstatic and wish all the best for her along with all the good people here; it was that little gray area that blocked my vision of seeing the perfection in disguise.

As for the ending, the author once again left us with more uncertainties about what’ll really happen next so all I can say is that I’m going to find out and make a thorough exploration into the Still Blue .

Lastly, here’s a quote I absolutely love in the entire book and would love to share it with all of you lovely people.
Love was like the waves in the sea, gentle and good sometimes, rough and terrible at others, but that it was endless and stronger than the sky and the earth and everything in between.

**There’s a song I think it suits Aria and Perry in this book specifically due to their tough and inescapable destiny. This is Westlife-Us Against the World
You and I, we're been at it so long
But still got the strongest fire
You and I, we still know how to talk
Know how to walk that wire
Sometimes I feel like the world is against me
The sound of your voice, baby, that's what saves me
When we're together I feel so invincible
Cause it's us against the world, you and me against them all
If you're listening to these words know that we are standing tall
I don't ever see the day that I won't catch you when you fall
Cause it's us against the world tonight

Basically, in my opinion, the entire song was perfectly made for them as if the lyrics were inspired by Aria & Perry.
There’ll be days we’ll be on different sides
But that doesn't last too long
We find ways to get it on track
And know how to turn back on
Sometimes I feel I can’t keep it together
Then you hold me close and you make it better
When I'm with you I can feel so unbreakable

Usually V and I go on random adventures together. Like that time she was a Steampunk airship captain and I was helping her storm a flying fortress to steal back some booty. Or like when we went trekking through an alien jungle to rescue a space whale from some poachers. Ya know, we hang out. Have fun. Repress our strong feelings for each other in lieu of maintaining a platonic friendship. The usual.

So I’m pretty used to her taking me on wild adventures. I just don’t think I’m ever going to get used to reading her wild imagination! Through the Ever Night was, if possible, even better than Under the Never Sky. Rossi’s skill as a story teller has only grown and improved, so too has her characters. I don’t usually like to reference character hotness as a selling point in a book – but these two don’t even need to touch to be steaming up the pages which (now that I think about it, is probably a fire hazard). As always, some of the best parts about Rossi’s writing is the litany of secondary characters – Roar being one serious MVP.

Once again his wit and personality bring a much needed buoyancy and humour to an otherwise action-packed, edge of your seat, angst fest that left me clutching the book yelling, “What?! WHAT!?!” and “NOOOOOO!!!! NOOOO!! Oh my god howwillieversurvive!?!” You know it’s been a good book when you’re left thinking, “Oh yeah! It is ON, baby!”

I read a lot of good books these days, having become exceptionally good at weeding out stuff I’m pretty sure I’ll like – so it takes a special kind of series/book to make my top five of all time. Under The Never Sky certainly does and not just because V would falcon punch me if I didn’t say that.

It’s hard not to respect a book that kicks ass from start to finish. Especially the writing which has become smoother. Particularly in regards to the well-conceptualized action scenes which seems to be something that Rossi does particularly well, and everything is really easy to visualize. The Aether, an aspect of this book that exceedingly confused people the last time round, will probably still confuse you. She explains it more in this book but still, what is an Aether? Buggered if I know. And you know what? Two books in and I still don’t CARE. It’s there, it’s awesome. It’s rocking the Casbah. What’s a Casbah? I don’t know either, but it rocks. (Okay, lies. I totally know what the Casbah is. So sue me.)

Seriously, I have a very small list of books that I love more than life itself but THIS ONE IS ON IT. Go read now!

Because you can’t come with V and I to save the Prince from the Alturi Prison on the third moon of the Kayman system until you do!

“Love is a rebellious bird that nobody can tame.”

A great sequel to Under the Never Sky.

I especially enjoyed watching Aria's relationships with Perry and Roar unfold. There was hardly any relationship drama, just a few tiny twinges of jealousy from Perry's side. But no fights and no tears. In all the books I've read, couples go through different stages in their relationships. There's ups and downs (e.g. Clary&Jace, Tris&Four, Gwyneth&Gideon) in many of those books, so it's refreshing to read of romance that spares you from most of the drama. It's not like they don't have enough problems in the first place.

I was so excited to finally meet Perry's sisters Liv! Even more intruiging is having Soren back, though. I'm not sure why, but I'm rooting for him.

In a nutshell: amazing series and wonderful concept.

Give it to me, she wanted to scream. Give me the pain. Let me take it from you.

4.5 stars. Why you hurt me, book? Please forgive me for being stuck in kittah speak, but for the love of all that's good, WHY?!?

You are toying with my emotions, Ms. Rossi. I don't know whether to be impressed or angry over the gut punch that I just felt. Of course, the part of me which questions everything is not going to take this lying down. I will get back up and seek out answers. I am not convinced that what just happened is something that actually happened. At least not yet.

I'd already gone into my reasons for liking this author's writing style in my review of book 1, but a lot of my initial impressions have stayed pretty much the same. If you're looking for heavily detailed sci-fi and explicit world building, you're not going to find it in this series. These books are completely character driven.

Needless to say, I did find myself somewhat surprised at how little of a part the 'realms' played into TTEN. By this point, I'm not sure how much description we're ever going to get on that side of the coin. Should this bother me? I don't know. Maybe? For whatever reason that makes no sense to me, I'm somehow happy with the world outside of the realms and the stories and interactions happening on the side of the coin we're staring at.

My poor heart was overwhelmed for most of this book. This isn't to say that everything was going wrong. In fact, I had so many warm fuzzies when it came to the bond between Aria and Roar. How often do you see a strong friendship portrayed between a male and female in which the reward is simply the friendship itself?
(Yes, but this feels intimate. Don't you think it does? Roar, sometimes it's hard to get used to this.)
Roar flashed a grin, "Aria, this isn't intimate. If I were being intimate with you, trust me, you'd know."
They fell into silence, and she realized how comforting it felt being connected to someone this way.

The romances in the story are absolutely rewarding in and of themselves (Aria and Perry are still flipping adorable), but in this particular installment, I was surprised to find myself caught up in Aria and Roar's journey as friends who were there for each other through their darkest nights. Their friendly, teasing banter and shared commonality evolved into something deeper, something pure.
Roar slept with a soft smile on his lips. His skin was a shade too pale. She memorized the way he looked. Aria wasn't sure when she'd see him smile again.
He was beautiful, and it wasn't fair.

Perry was different in this book, but in a good way. He'd matured, now that he has more responsibility on his shoulders. I still love him to pieces, and am looking forward to his place in the bigger picture of this story.

Even with the subtle and sparse world building, the writing style is still lush and descriptive. I am not sure how to get an explanation across clearly, since the previous sentence sort of contradicts itself. The characters are still shining, the relationships continue to make me feel, the adventures are fun, and the wording managed to make me tear up a few times. This author writes in such a way that I find myself stopping to re-read certain paragraphs just because I love what was written.
Aria smiled at what he'd said. He didn't know why, but it didn't matter. She was smiling.

Perry brushed her hair away from her shoulder and breathed her in, letting the strength of her temper bring him back. One breath at a time, his anger faded into desire.

She sang a song he knew this time - one she'd sung to him when they'd been at Marron's together. It was a message from her. A reminder - here among hundreds of people - of a moment that had been theirs alone.

Yes, the story is one I enjoy. Yes, there is an interesting virtual reality aspect happening. Yes, there are adventures and danger to be had. Yes, there is more to all of this world than just emotions and lovely characters. But I can only write about what the book meant to me. And for me, every shining moment came from character interaction. It was not the fight scenes, nor the chasing after people, nor the mystery of what isn't being told. What works for me is what is peeking out from the layers of story...it's those little flashes of light which have me transfixed and longing for the next book.

This book provided from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

It's not often that a sequel outshines its predecessor, but with Through the Ever Night, it seems to be the general consensus. We've had a few examples here and there, and they've all proved to be pretty memorable, but I don't think I've ever seen a case quite like this. Don't get me wrong – I loved Under the Never Sky, it was fresh and dynamical and it left a lasting impression, but due to its intensity, Through the Ever Night is far more remarkable. Rossi has grown more confident as a writer, the success of her debut has done her a world of good, and her newly found self-assurance shines from every page. As with everything else, the attitude makes so much difference, it's a well-known fact, and Rossi now firmly stands on her own two feet. I believe we can expect great things from her.

I deem it necessary to mention that the book is perfectly paced. Like its predecessor, it’s told from both Aria and Perry’s point of view, and while third person alternating view is by far my least favorite narrative mode, Rossi made it work splendidly. I can’t imagine Through the Ever Night told any other way.

It goes without saying that things never go smoothly for Perry and Aria. Theirs is a romance I’m very fond of and left to their own devices, they would be no more than a step away from their happily ever after. However, there’s not one, but two worlds between them: Aria’s Dwellers would never accept someone like Peregrine, a savage by their standards, and his Tides have nothing but insults for Aria, with only a few exceptions.

Even though their feelings for each other were constantly being put to the test, through it all, they both grew tremendously as individuals. Aria is nothing like that pale, scared girl from Under the Never Sky. She is confident, fierce, a strong Aud and a good friend. All her attitudes and prejudices are gone. There is both strength and grace in her gait she didn’t possess before, and she certainly knows what to do with a knife. But there are also changes on the inside, she cares for people differently and she values different things.
She’d been seeking the comfort of a place. Of walls. A roof. A pillow to rest her head on. Now she realized that the people she loved were what gave her life shape, and comfort, and meaning. Perry and Roar were home.

Changes on Perry are perhaps less evident, but they are just as big. Through his responsibility toward his tribe and more losses than he can count, he gained a somber maturity that he lacked before. His every step, every single word carries more weight, and each decision he makes shapes the lives of many. He is a far cry from that rash, headstrong boy we know from Under the Never Sky, and if I had to choose one thing that really stood out in this book, it would be his characterization – the subtle changes found between the lines, but perhaps more important for the remainder of the story than everything else put together.

There are things in Through the Ever Night that will make you laugh, things that will make you cry, things that will make you inch up nervously in your seat, some that will make you angry enough to punch something (hopefully not someone, though), and things that will make you swoon. Now, aren’t those signs of a perfect read?

I think you’ve all noticed that my five star ratings are few and far between, but a book that had… HAS such a tight hold on my heart, that still lingers in my mind even though it’s been weeks since I’d finished it, definitely deserves my wholehearted support. Veronica Rossi does, too. While the ending was open, but entirely satisfactory, Into the Still Blue can’t come soon enough, I tell you. I will be right here, nervously biting my nails until it does.

Through the Ever Night was AMAZING! Everything I loved about Under the Never Sky was kicked up several notches and then some! Epic adventure, heart-pounding action, romance, friendship, longing, and heartbreak are all found within the pages. I’m still reeling with awe at the love I have for this story!

We pick up right where the story left off in Under the Never Sky where Aria and Perry meet again. Their love for each other is strong, but they face so many outside challenges. The Aether storms seem to be growing both in frequency and intensity, so all the tribes and even the Realms need to find a safe haven before everything necessary for life is destroyed. Aria is tasked with the mission to find the elusive Still Blue, an area that is supposed to be unharmed by the Aether storms, by Consul Hess. He’s blackmailed her into cooperating or risk the well-being of Talon, Perry’s beloved nephew. Perry is now Blood Lord to the Tides but all is not smooth sailing. The decision to bring Aria back to the Tides is met with suspicion, and most of the Tides members hate her even if she is half Outsider. The Tides don’t fully trust Perry either, questioning his decisions as their leader, and Perry feels their doubt profoundly.

Oh man, was this good! I loved Under the Never Sky but I think this surpasses that story, something almost unheard of with a sequel. No dreaded “second book syndrome” where much of the story is filler, gearing up for the final wrap-up in the last book. This story was thrilling in every way and almost impossible to put down.

I loved the romance between Perry and Aria. Their characters are so well fleshed out, and you feel their concerns, despair, joy, and love right along with them. They are from two different worlds but their care and love for the people around them, and their common goals make them well-suited for each other. They had to weather a few storms, and I think they’ve become stronger for it. I love this quote:

Her eyes blurred, and she wasn’t sure if it was from the pain or from the relief of being with him again. He brought a sense of rightness. She felt it every moment she spent with him. Even the wrong ones. Even the painful ones, like now. Perry’s hands stilled. He looked up, and his gaze told her everything. He felt it too.*

Secondary character such as Roar and Cinder, and even Soren add layers to an already amazing tale, and I found myself fully invested in their stories, as well. This was an exciting adventure, filled with action, and danger. Where we leave off in this installment has me anxious and super eager for the conclusion. I really like the way things are shaping up, and I think the next story has real potential to be just as exciting as this one. Veronica Rossi has managed to stun an amaze me, and I can’t wait to pick up her next book!

Will these books ever cease to surprise me?!?!?
This is the second book in a trilogy.

I.DID.NOT.HATE.IT!

I just...I...what?

This series has honestly surprised me to no end. I'm very wary when I go into second books from a trilogy, like, I go with the lowest expectations because I know they're bound to be slow, I know nothing really happens and always tend to expect the worst (even though the worst still manages to piss me off). So going into this book and coming out as happy as I did. Look, I'm just ridiculously thankful.

Seriously Rossi, thank you.
“Love was like the waves in the sea, gentle and good sometimes, rough and terrible at others, but that it was endless and stronger than the sky and earth and everything in between.”

This book is heartfelt. You can practically taste the love these characters have. And I'm not talking about the love between Aria and Parry. I mean in every other character. You see it in the way Roar aches for Liv, in the way Perry defends his tribe, in the way Aria fights for what's right. You hear it in their words and see it in their actions.

I adore these characters! I've probably mentioned it already and you know what? I don't care. I love these characters! They are what bring these books alive.
“Roar's smile widened. "I know. You missed me."
She rolled her eyes. "It's barely been three weeks since I last saw you."
"Miserable stretch of time." He said.”

I adore Roar and the fact that the author brought a male to the story without the possibility of there being a triangle. He's a constant in her life, her rock, her safe place. I'm fascinated by their loyalty to each other and to the dynamic rumble they bring to the story.
“We lose and lose, but we're still here. Shaking in place, afraid of doing something. I'm tired of settling for this because I don't know if something better exists. It has to. What point is there otherwise? I can do something about it now. And I will.”

This was a suspenseful, action packed, edge of your seat kind of story that had me biting my nails from the stress. What I loved most what the realness it portrayed which we don't really see a lot of in YA. It's not always going to be perfect and they won't always win and Rossi manged that flawlessly. I mean this woman had me scared of turning to the next page never knowing what was going to happen. Seriously Rossi, I'm going to repeat myself. Thank you!
“Love is a rebellious bird that nobody can tame.”

"We lose and lose, but we're still here."

•I never expected this to be a major issue in this review, but I can't deny it kept my mind occupied far more than I'd liked: the romance. All things considered, I can only describe it as miserably sickly-sweet. In Through The Ever Night, as main hobby everyone whines, mopes, moans, gets so edgy that the only plausible explanation is that they're all on their period (men included) and I swear, I swear, if I could have slapped the lovebirds myself, I would have. Violently. Not only once. Seriously, people, you should all get your priorities straight. The world is dying etc. etc., and the first thing on your mind is that you can't see each other for a few weeks? What about throwing your responsibilities out of the window, digging a hole all to yourselves and getting it over with? And it's not only that this infuriating tendecy to complain about their nothings makes their characters appear twice as spineless as they actually are (or should be), it's also that it makes me feel as though the book weren't worth reading, because sorry if I feel let down when I choose to read a sci-fi story and end up with two characters whose main (and cumbersome) concern is their not being together (for perfectly valid reasons, by the way, but it seems that if you're in love your brain is allowed to go on vacation).

Aria's and Roar's frindship is something remarkable indeed. I don't think I ever stumbled upon a platonic relationship between a boy and a girl that touched me so.

The writing, sadly, is still rather average. I am well aware that this is the very adjective I used in my review of Under The Never Sky, and I apologize for my lack of originality in this regard. I am afraid I am answering to mediocrity and blandness with blandness and mediocrity.

•Now this is awkward, because I've only spoken a little about the romance and the writing, without even going into detail nor analyzing the characters one by one as I usually do, and I already have nothing more to say. I am sorry if you'll find this review less exhaustive than usual (that is, if you usually find my reviews decently exhaustive, which I have not the arrogance to believe), but the only word that comes to my mind is, again, average. Average, average, average. It's easy to read and entertaining, and those are perks I can't in any way ignore, but besides that, there's very little to save.

➽ I hoped in an improvement on the first book, which, in all fairness, was not half bad to begin with, but I think it legit to expect something more from the second installment, be it a trilogy or a longer series. Therefore, generally speaking, I am disappointed. Still, I don't lose all hope for the conclusion.

Through the Ever Night is one of the few sequels that truly took me by surprise - in the best possible way. I can't quite articulate how excited I was for this book, especially after loving Under the Never Sky, so to say that my expectations were met would be an understatement. Once again, Veronica Rossi has proved her prowess as a writer and if there's anything I can guarantee, it's that fans of the series will most definitely not be disappointed by this scintillating sequel.

Through the Ever Night picks up exactly where Under the Never Sky left off with the reunion of Aria and Perry. Unlike its predecessor, which was rather fast-paced and full of romance, Through the Ever Night is filled with a steady undercurrent of loss, of longing, and an atmosphere of tension. Even from the beginning, we can see that this won't be the same swoon-worthy romance we were treated to in the first novel. Instead, Aria and Perry are practically estranged from one another as Aria is very much an outsider in Perry's tribe and their relationship is kept a secret. Yet, before Perry and Aria can even begin to come to terms with the direction their relationship is taking now that they are no longer alone, Aria and Roar are whisked away to find Liv, Perry's sister, and fulfill the task of finding the Still Blue.

It seems weird, but for some reason, I always enjoy romances that are tinged with a hint of longing, despair, and utter want, which was exactly what I got with Through the Ever Night. Even while living in the same tribe, Aria and Perry seem miles away from one another, until literally, they are. As Blood Lord of the Tides, Perry has an immense amount of responsibility, and it doesn't all come so easily. It is evident that as a leader, the role one plays is extremely different and seeing Perry struggle through his duty, making mistakes and blunders, all while slowly coming to realize his significance and grow into his role, is an incredible journey to see. Just like with her debut, Rossi manages to capture the essence of humanity within her characters, making them shockingly three-dimensional and realistic in the growth and change that she ensures they go through throughout the novel.

Aria, too, is a different person. Although we don't see as drastic a change of growth in her as we do in Perry, she is a far cry from the frightened Dweller we met in the beginning of Under the Never Sky. Aria and Roar's friendship is as strong as ever and seeing them interact, console each other, and just generally be there for one another without any romantic feelings on part of either of them was utterly refreshing. I love that Rossi made Aria just as much a friend to Roar as Perry and furthermore, that she made Roar such a huge forefront in this novel. Although he doesn't have his own PoV in this novel, like Aria and Perry do, a large part of the plot revolves around him and seeing him change and grow is rewarding as well.

In addition to the main characters, the majority of the secondary characters from Under the Never Sky return in this novel, some of them in unexpected ways. I was thrilled to see them all come back and see the role they played in moving the plot forward. If I have any qualms with this story, it is just that it seems as if not enough quite happens. It almost seems as if there is still so much left to happen in the last novel, but the plot never lags, never slows, and never bores the reader. It isn't as fast-paced or intriguing as Under the Never Sky, and many of my questions concerning Aria's parentage remain unanswered, but it keeps you flipping the pages and the world-building is explored a little further as well.

Ultimately, I can see this novel being an instant hit with fans of Under the Never Sky for it is a fabulous follow-up novel. Veronica Rossi just keeps surprising me. While Under the Never Sky felt like Aria's story, TtEN is Perry's in a way and it's phenomenal. I simply love the character development in this novel. It completely blew me away with its depth. COMPLETELY. Furthermore, it was an incredibly emotional novel. INCREDIBLY. Seriously, my feelings and emotions were EVERYWHERE. It was an incredible whirlwind of pure emotion for sure. If there is anything I know for sure it is that Into the Still Blue is going to be SUCH a great conclusion - I can just tell.

HUGE hugs and kisses and thank-yous to my friend, Amelia, at The Authoress for lending me this book. You're the BEST, Amelia! THANK YOU!<3

*4.5 EPIC STARS*

It's been 2 years since I read the first book in this series, but I rolled right back into this story like I never stopped reading! Perry and Aria's adventure is just so fast-paced and exciting, it never gets boring.
Though I don't remember absolutely everything about the first book, it was pretty easy to get back into this. Perry and Aria are both unique and unforgettable characters who care deeply for each other and it really shows throughout the whole story.
I really like the way this book is told: alternating between both Aria's and Perry's perspectives. (I don't remember whether it was also like that in the first book.)
Even though they were apart most of the time, they constantly thought about each other so you never had to miss either one of them for very long. It was interesting to read what the one was up to while certain things happened to the other. They both struggled through their own hardships throughout the story but emerged even stronger and more in love than before!
This book also contained a lot of Roar... Oh Roar, how I love you!. Don't get me wrong, I love Perry, but I really have a soft spot for Roar! I'm glad Aria's and Roar's relationship stayed platonic though, I wouldn't have it any other way.
The one thing I didn't like was that the book was a bit too fast-paced in my opinion, at times I felt that the story could have been a bit more elaborate instead of going from one action-packed scene to the next! It all felt a bit rushed and hectic to me. I could've done with a slower pace!
Overall, I really enjoyed this and I already started the last book! Can't wait to see how they're gonna wrap things up in just one more book! Bring it on!

1.) I hAve to say, the first one was far better but still, this was a great sequel.

2.) the characters development sure surprised me. In the first book, I clearly am annoyed at Cinder but in this, I love him. Such a cute lovely boy going through puberty. Lol. Ship him with Willow.

And somehow, I felt pity for Soren for the reason that he ended up getting guilty for what he committed. I did love Reef for he was a fatherly-figure.

Grew more fond of the main protagonists, Aria and Perry than ever. And I almost (i don't usually cry!) cried while reading what happened to Roar and no, he did not die.

And tbh, I expected more of Brooke's sassiness and rudeness but oh well, she only released fumes in like the beginning which I am completely okay with. Though if she ever did played the role of a jealous btch then so be it.

I hate Kirra btw! Ughhhhh!! I did seriously want to slap her and force her to eat a mud and a camel's poop while reading her.

3.) the event or the flow of the story quite fascinated me. The happenings were just so heartbreaking, bitter, and beautiful at the same time.

2.5 ever-so-hopeful STARS ★★★✬✩
This book is for you if… you carry hopes for this series to satisfy you in all the ways you need it. Typically for many trilogies, this sequel feels very much like a ‘filler’.

EDIT.
I still remember how boring I found this instalment and am thus shocked to see I've rated it 3.5 Stars initially. I've deducted a star because it felt right.
Overall.
I know what you’re thinking. You’re reading a lot of mediocre books lately, Nat.

Although I can't recall that feeling now as I'm writing this review, I still remember being swept away by the prequel. So much so, in fact, that I instantly bought part 2 and 3 and even made a point to ask the independent book shop of my choice for the specific editions so the series would fit together. I wouldn't say I regret doing so but...It's obvious where I'm getting at with this comparison: I'm not nearly as excited about this as I was about Under the Never Sky . This felt very much like a filler, and the arch of suspense, consequently, suffered.

Still, there was much to like about it. Many of the characters are so familiar to me, reading this book feels like returning to sit at a table with them and having a couple of pints. Of course, I mean mainly Roar by that, he's goals. Except this time, the stories they have to tell aren't quite as interesting as the last time. We had a good laugh still. Some characters we only briefly interacted with before now get a lot of on-page time in Through the Ever Night and let me tell you, this girl is shooketh (positively, mostly).

World(-building). This re-introduction also makes it possible for Veronica's world to become more alive. The vivid colours suffered from the ‘filler’-feeling, however.

What’s happening.
‘Love is a rebellious bird that nobody can tame.’

...except those who are blessed by it: for the sake of the Tides and their survival, Perry and Aria are forced to drift apart from each other. Will they succeed in both rescuing the ones they love and oneanother in time before the Aether gets completely volatile?
Con:
the aether never sleeps
perry needs to secure his position
aria under surveillance from Reverie
Pro:
love is rebellious indeed
support from a very unexpected party
roar.

The second book to trilogies usually is always literally secondary to its prequel including the greatness of the story. So often, when I read the second book in a trilogy, I set my expectations low. But this book surprised me because it's just as amazing if not even better than the first that I couldn't help tear through the pages to finish it and get my hands on the third book.

Spoilers

Hated it. I found it boring as hell. I quite enjoyed the first one, unfortunately this one wasn't entertaining. The only good thing about it was that the world building was a little better this time around (though that's not saying much since it was atrocious in the first book).
Aria's POV was so bland. She had the personality of plank, she was the typical do goody cookie cutter heroine found in every YA book. There was nothing to Aria apart from her love for Perry, she was so devoted and obsessed with him, it was sickening. Her whole world revolved around Perry, and making sure his family and friends were okay. She barely thought about her old friends… her new life was all about Perry and Perry's world. She lost her identity — at least in the first book, she had some mission of her own when she was looking for her mum but in this one her every thought, decision, desire and action revolved around Perry in some shape or form. I hate that most heroines gradually or sometimes even suddenly lose everything from their pre-hero life when they meet them — they lose their home for some reason or another, they only have meaningful relationships with the hero and his family/friends and they have no purpose outside of the hero's wants/needs/desires. It's depressing.
I lost all respect for Aria when she thought badly of Liv. Poor Liv was traded for food and forced to marry someone else and all Aria could think was that Liv was a bitch for going ahead with the marriage. What was Liv supposed to do? She was sold, she couldn't go back to her tribe when they'd just blame her for their hunger and she couldn't live with herself knowing that she had the power to prevent her tribe starving, and it's not like she could have survived on her own somewhere else… Liv had no choice but to agree to the marriage. But all Aria could think about was Roar being hurt by the girl he loved because she was marrying someone else… where was her sympathy with Liv's predicament? She knew that Liv didn't choose the situation she was in, she knew that Liv had to sacrifice her life and love so her people could survive… but bitch Aria didn't care, all she cared about was her boys… Ugh.
Perry was even worse than Aria, he was emo and whiny throughout the book. I really wasn't impressed that he was attracted to someone else and was very very very close to cheating. It was disappointing, especially when Aria was 100% faithful to him and wasn't lusting after anyone else. Meanwhile Perry was getting all hot and bothered about that Kirra girl even though he'd only known her for a few days. I can't believe that he loves Aria as much as he claims when he had so little faith and trust in her and when he was desiring someone else and was so affected by some other girl — it actually seemed like his reactions to Kirra conveyed more passion than when he was with Aria. Yea, I don't think he loves Aria at all, he just became attached to her in the first book because of the intense situation they were in. I have no doubt in my mind that when Aria/Perry hit one of the many rough patches that's inevitable in all relationships, he'll start getting closer to some other girl and then he'll cheat. I hope Aria finds out about Perry having sexy feelings and thoughts for another girl (Although, I bet if it is mentioned Aria will just forgive and forget like the typical doormat heroine). I think it's only fair that Aria lusts after someone else in the next book — it's not fair that he's lusted after loads of girls, had loads of great sex with them and had meaningful long term relationships with girls when she's had NOTHING apart from one lame kiss from some geeky guy. Aria might actually be interesting if she was having lusty thought about someone else. I wouldn't mind her and Roar getting it on… at least if she had something going on with him it would make sense since they've spent so much time together and gotten to know one another. Aria and Perry's love isn't very believable… it takes more than Perry 'rendering' to Aria for me to believe in their 'epic love'. Their thoughts, actions and interactions should make me believe that their soulmates or whatever, not some cheap 'bond'. I do think Aria loves Perry but after reading this I don't buy that Perry's madly in love with Aria.
Anyway, the story line really dragged and mainly consisted of Perry moaning and feeling sorry for himself and Aria being a boring self sacrificing Mary Sue. Perry was struggling to be Blood Lord and spent his time bitching that everyone didn't fall at his feet and obey him and respect him and think he was right about every little thing… at least at the end he realised he had to work for people's respect and prove his worthiness for their loyalty and command.
Aria spent most of her time trying to find a way to help Perry with his sister and nephew. I would have preferred if she was trying to do something for herself like finding her father but she was too busy with Perry's problems. She was also trying to locate the whereabouts of the Still Blue but that was only because she was forced to in order to save Perry's nephew and his tribe from the Aether storms. So yea, it was all about Perry and his family and friends… I really wish that Aria had some other motivation or drive of her own that didn't revolve around Perry and his people.
All in all… Perry was an emo cheating douche, Aria was dull, the romance wasn't romantic and the plot was boring.

1.)Under The Never Sky - ★★★

2.5/5 ★

I’m very conflicted about how I feel about this sequel.
It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either.
I’m really sad that I’m not loving this trilogy.

There wasn’t much of a plot and almost everything that happened was very predictable. The romance didn't have the development that I was hoping for and it was my least favorite things about this book, and I'm surprised by that because I love romance but this one just didn't do it for me. They spend more time apart than together and the new character that was introduced? Hated her. Please die.

I don't love any of these characters and there was a death in this book that I honestly couldn't have care less. I'm so not invested in this story and I'm very upset about that. But still is an enjoyable book, the writing is good and that's about it.

I don't think I'll finish this trilogy anytime soon. But oh well, these things happen.

Whew. I am stunned because I didn’t like Under the Never Sky at all and had my doubts about continuing this series, but I am so glad I gave this book a chance because, turns out, Through the Ever Night is the best book I've read in months. Very impressive. As a note, this review is mostly aimed at my fellow Under the Never Sky unenthusiasts, because for fans of the first book, I think the only thing I need to say is this sequel is so worth it.

For me, the problem with Under the Never Sky wasn't the shoddy world building, that I can live with - rather, it was Veronica Rossi's haphazard writing style and kitchen sink storytelling mentality. She has a great concept, a sheltered girl's kicked out of the relative safety of her domed existence, cut off from the crutch of her virtual world, and forced to fend for herself in a dangerous dystopian environment, but the way Rossi did it, by throwing every single generic dystopian element she could think of at me - in no particular order - just didn't work. I didn't like the extremely thin connections between Aria's Reverie troubles and Perry's Tides problems, I didn't like the random seemingly pointless characters like Marron and Cinder, and I sure as hell didn't like the cannibals. Thanks to all the randomness, the plot ended up being just this big, aimless, jumbled, incredibly boring mess with really no character development whatsoever - Perry was just your standard noble savage, Aria was just your average pampered princess tossed to the wolves, and frankly, none of the other characters stood out for me at all besides Talon, who's basically a MacGuffin. In short, I was bored out of my mind.

And then I read Through the Ever Night. Let's just say mind blown, because Through the Ever Night is such a better book, it's like day and night. The first thing I notice? The tight plotting. I'm no longer reading about disparate storylines like Aria needing to survive outside the dome, Perry needing to get Talon back, sniffing and menstruation or all the random events that keep arising to impede their goals, because in this book, everyone - Perry, Aria, heck even Commander Hess - are all focused on one thing and one thing only - finding the Still Blue, the fabled safe zone from the Aether. And the advantage of having everyone focused on the Still Blue is simple - it’s immediately obvious what the endgame is, so that focus really helps keep the story on track without me feeling like the plot keeps wandering around or treading water. Plus, the action sequences are handled way better – rather than the cannibal attacks or aimless wandering through the wilderness as before, Rossi actually uses the postapocalyptic disaster setting she’s created to challenge and develop her characters, something I would’ve never expected from reading Under the Never Sky.

Take Perry, for example, who takes on a shit load of new responsibilities now that he’s the Blood Lord of the Tides. The last book was a lot of him complaining about how Vale’s doing it all wrong, but now that he’s stepping up to the challenge, he actually becomes an interesting character with quite a bit of depth. Those struggles to provide for his tribe kind of lacked that extra punch when he was just the leader’s brother - they were more like a generic struggle for survival in a harsh dystopian landscape than anything else, but now that he’s in charge, he’s at the forefront, worrying about his people, doing things, risking his life confronting the threat of the Aether, and it all makes him a far more active and compelling, if not more relatable, character than before. Even if he does behave like a nut job at one point. And the same kind of praise can be said about Aria. I didn’t like her before, but now, with Perry’s leadership position and her outsider status weighing on their relationship, and her being tasked to track down the location of the Still Blue, she really grew on me over the course of the book in a way I really felt was missing from the first book. In fact, it’s not really a stretch to say the character development here more than made up for the disappointment of Under the Never Sky.

Actually, looking back, I'm still not enthusiastic about Under the Never Sky, but I have to acknowledge that book, no matter how random and boring it was, absolutely did a good job setting up this one. Turns out, so many of the events that I’d dismissed as pointless previously really fit well into the overall story here - people like those six guys Perry gets to join him towards the end of Under the Never Sky who just felt randomly tacked on and out of place, well Reef and company are back and not only do I feel they just naturally slip into the roles of Perry’s bodyguards and advisors and moral support so well, but I actually liked them. Or Cinder, he was just that weird kid with the crazy what the hell power before, but now, his role actually makes sense in the bigger picture, the search for the Still Blue. Or Roar, who goes from the dull sidekick character into someone with a fully fleshed out tragic back story who I ended up genuinely liking and really felt for, him and Liv. Even Marron, another random character from the first book, fits like a glove in his new role here, so much so I think I’m actually questioning why I questioned Rossi’s plans for these characters, that’s how much improved they all are here.

My only word of warning is that for anyone unsatisfied with the explanation of the Aether, well Rossi tries again, but her added explanation is still only one sentence long and not much to go on. Personally though, I don’t mind ambiguous world building where it works, and it certainly works here, because even if the characters can’t give the most lucid of explanations for the Unity, I can’t argue with the results. Not when I’m reading about dangerous weather phenomena that actually plays a big role in the character development. And makes for wicked cool action sequences too, of course. Plus that ending, wow, wow, I thought Under the Never Sky really missed the boat with the theme of people being too overreliant on virtual worlds, but, like so much else, that comes roaring back with a vengeance. What happens to Reverie and particularly the stuff with Aria’s friends is just too poetic for words and has to be read.

I think I’ve raved enough about how much I enjoyed Through the Ever Night despite my reservations about Under the Never Sky. But when a book is such a massive improvement over its predecessor, it’s well deserving of a second chance.

‘Under the Never Sky’ was a book I was dying to read, put off for so long, and fell in love instantly; so when I was given the chance to read ‘Through the Ever Night’ I couldn’t contain my excitement. I was desperate to jump back into Perry and Aria’s world. After the way the first book ended, I needed to know if they’d get together. The action, excitement and emotional rollercoaster we’re sent on met all my expectations and more. I loved every single moment of this book.

‘Through the Ever Night’ begins almost exactly where the previous book ended with Aria and Perry meeting up for the first time since they parted ways - we actually get to hear the words Aria had been waiting for from Perry. But their reunion is short-lived because of Perry’s new duties as the Blood Lord of the Tides and Aria’s task to find the Still Blue in order to save Talon from Reverie. It definitely sets the scene for the book. While both Perry and Aria want nothing more than to be alone with each, they’re pushed away by the separate responsibilities tasked to them. To say these responsibilities left me frustrated at times is an understatement. I just wanted to see Aria and Perry happy together. But their tasks meant not always following what I wanted them to do, and focused more on seeing the Outsider world in completely new ways, especially when it came to running and trading with different tribes.

The biggest problem for Aria and Perry in this book is the strength of the Aether and the storms that are causing more harm than they ever had before. The Aether - a piece of the natural world, always present since a solar flare 300 years ago changed the way the world survived; and always dangerous. But the funnels - the electric fire power that attack the ground below without mercy – is a threat to everyone. There’s no escape from the destruction caused by an Aether storm. The Outsider tribes are losing food and shelter; not even the pods in Reverie can survive an attack from the Aether. The only hope is finding the Still Blue. The Aether has always interested me. I really enjoyed seeing this natural disaster problem; this powerful element destroying the world without hope of ever being fixed. I like that this is the push that makes the population want to fight for a new world. There’s no government pulling them down, no rules that need to be followed; just the natural world out to destroy. Yes, there are other people who are hoping to stand in their way of finding the Still Blue, but no-one owns them; the fight is always to stay alive first and hope for a better world second.

I was glad to be thrown into the familiar switching POVs – the same as how they were in Under the Never Sky’ – changing between Aria and Perry, but different in that a lot of the novel happens when they’re apart from each other. Countless times I almost went mental, when one chapter would end with a shock, only to be thrown into the other character’s chapter that would also end with a surprising twist and I’d be torn in multiple directions emotionally; desperate to find out the consequences of Aria’s last ending, but not ready to let go of the twist from Perry’s. All the while dying for them to be together again. It was an incredibly emotional journey for me. A big part of why I love this series so much is the romance we get to see between Perry and Aria. It wasn’t quite as physical as ‘Under the Never Sky’ but the emotions were all still there. I love how strongly Aria and Perry feel for each other. Even though there were a few moments of uncertainty, I loved knowing what they felt for each other was so powerful and true. They’ve jumped up my list of favourite YA couples.

One of my favourite parts of this story was getting to see some of the side characters. While Aria and Perry are constantly thinking about each other, their separation gave us a chance to explore the people they relied on most to help them through. Aria forms a bond with Roar as they cross the country side in search of Liv and news of the Still Blue. I love Roar. He’s funny, charming and protective. You might think that if a female YA character is thrown into situation where she spends so much time alone with a guy she wasn’t originally in love with that there might be ‘love-triangle’ warnings flashing through your head. Never fear, Aria’s only got eyes for Perry and nothing could keep Roar from loving Liv. As for Perry, the group of warriors he stumbles upon in the end of ‘Under the Never Sky’ become his closest advisors; they keep him safe and in control, following him wherever he might lead – and as a struggling Blood Lord, he really needed the support. You don’t instantly think of these characters as the “main characters” but they are every bit as important to the story and I’m just as attached to them as I am Perry and Aria.

I was so sad when the book came to an end. It almost felt like I was missing more pages, even though I knew I had come to the perfect end for the book. Questions about what will happen next are still running through my mind and the wait for book #3 is probably going to kill me. I see a lot of re-reading in my future to get me through the wait.

This book made me cry like a little baby while riding the bus. For some of you this might doesn't sound like that big of a deal but it was, I don't cry in public places. I can hold it back most of the time, but in this book?! Hell no. But I loved it nonetheless. Really loved it!

I loved knowing more about this world, I loved meeting the new characters and knowing more about the ones we met in the first book. I still love Perry more than life and the girl just keeps getting better. I also love Roar so freaking much it hurts. I loved everyone getting reunited and every separation broke me in half, some more than others.

I need to read Into the Still Blue ASAP.

"It's been months since Aria learned of her mother's death. Months since Perry became Blood Lord of the Tides, and months since Aria last saw him." Now, the two are about to see each other again, but there are many challenges that make their reunion, let's say, not as imagined.

Actual Rating: 4.9

Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi is a beautiful novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Please read the first book, Under the Never Sky, first and get a better understanding of the book. You find a dystopian novel with a twist of romance and all Hunger Games fans will be sure you enjoy this book. I would definitely recommend it!

LET'S START TALKING ABOUT THE CHARACTERS! WHOOP WHOOP!

Perry
Peregrine is the main male character in the novel. Outsider. Savage. He's someone you just can't not love. No, not "fall in love", I meant, you can't not love this character. GAH! Whatever, *squints* do you understand? Well, anyway, with burdens on his shoulders, Perry is stressed. The fact of his people taking sides for and against him, his lover "ditching" him, his sister getting married, and so many unexpected events, can he keep up?

"For the first time in months, no one noticed Perry as he stepped into the cookhouse. All eyes were fixed on Aria and Roar. He pulled himself into the shadows and leaned against the wall, gritting his teeth at the pain that shot down his arm."

Aria
Ahh...Aria. Smartass. Dweller. Mole. But who knew, she's half of both Outsider and Dweller? Shocking, right? She just has that thing about her. You get to connect with her so much! Beautiful soul, any girl's fictional best friend.

    “I miss you.
I miss you. I miss you, I miss you.
Be ready, because when I see you, I'll never let you go again.”

Roar
Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod...Aria take Perry, I'll take Roar. JKJK! But I'm glad he becomes a prominent character in this book. I can't get enough of him! *swoons*

"He had to show them that things might have changed but tomorrow would still come."

Liv
Ahh...Liv. NO, NOT LIV FROM LIV&MADDIE! *breathes* Anywayy, Liv. Manipulative. Kind. Honest. True at heart. When you first meet her, let's just say she's not someone you like. After Roar trying to find her for more than a year, she ignores him and plans to marry Sable. But as things unfold, you find her as your friend and hero.

“Love is a rebellious bird that nobody can tame.”

I think I'm going to scream out of happiness! I just got a signed ARC of Through The Ever Night in the mail and Veronica Rossi sent me a signed bookmark. Time to freak out!

Words can't express how much I loved this book. No review can justify the awesomeness of Veronica Rossi's latest book in her Under The Never Sky Trilogy. Aria is finally reunited with Perry and what a reunion it was. Perry is having difficulty being Blood Lord and finding the Still Blue. I am trying to keep this review as spoiler-free as possible.

You know a book is great when you can't stop reading it and when it's over you feel like the book left an impact on you. When Through the Ever Night there was the biggest smile on my face because I really loved this book.

Enough about me, Through the Ever Night was definitely one of my favorite books of the year. In my opinion Through the Ever Night surpassed Under the Never Sky which is an incredible feat. Through the Ever Night was incredibly fast paced and I was so engrossed that nothing else mattered. I really love Perry and Aria! I loved how much action, adventure, and romance Rossi packed into this book. I was never bored at all while reading Through The Ever Night due to it's fast paced plot.

The world building in Rossi's books is really something else. The World of Reverie and the world outside the pods were just so original. I really would love to know how Rossi comes up with such a unique world. Veronica Rossi creates such vivid descriptions that you really feel like you are in Reverie. The concept of the Realms is ridiculously awesome.

If you loved Under the Never Sky then you must read Through the Ever Night. I really hope Warner Brothers makes Under the Never Sky a movie soon because I really can't wait! Through the Ever Night is a magical, heart-breaking adventure that you won't ever forget.

Through the Ever Night takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride that leaves you with ALL THE FEELS.

In Through the Ever Night, Perry and Aria are faced with many challenges. Rossi pushes these characters to their limits and you can see just how much they've developed/are still developing in TTEN. Perry is now the Blood Lord of the Tides and with that comes deep responsibility for the well-being of his people. Not everyone thinks he's a suitable leader though, especially when he brings along Aria.

One of my favourite aspects of this series is the relationships and character dynamics. Aria has grown so much since UTNS, she can fight, stand up for herself and is no longer a naive Dweller.

Charming and hilarious as always, Roar plays a bigger role in TTEN and I'm so glad as he is one of my favourite characters. I loved the relationship between him and Aria, the two spend quite a bit of time together and become really close. Rossi has created a beautiful friendship and I admire her for showing that a guy and a girl can be just be friends.

The romance is just as steamy and as full of sparks as it was in UTNS. BUT. While there is great chemistry between the pair, they face many obstacles that are determined to keep them apart...

Through the Ever Night was one of my most anticipated sequels of 2013 and I'm happy to say it did not disappoint!

So I'm giving the second book in the Under the Never Sky series 4.5 stars. Rereading my review of Under the Never Sky - Book 1 - I found that the same things I had issue with in the first, really aren't explained anymore in depth in book 2, but I just seriously couldn't put this book down. There was so much that happened and I know I can't explain it all in this review, so I'm going to focus on a few things and then just let you read it and fall in love too!

Again, the characters in this book had me feeling all of the things.

In Through the Ever Night, we pick up shortly after the last page of Under the Never Sky. Aria and Perry are reunited and things have changed. Perry is now the Blood Lord of the Tides. There are expectations of him that he never worried about before. The ultimate goal that both Perry and Aria share is to find the Still Blue. Perry needs to find it for The Tides and everyone who lives there and Aria needs to find it so that she can free Talon, Perry's nephew. She's being blackmailed by Consul Hess with the safety of Talon. An unlikely alliance ends up making all the difference for them in the end.

As in Under the Never Sky we get alternating points of view with each new chapter, and it really works.

As a dweller, Aria is living in Perry's world. She tries to fit in but no one is making it easy on her and eventually for the safety of all she has to make a decision that broke my heart.

Perry is trying to fit into the roll of Blood Lord and he's struggling. He's never been in charge of people like this before, they depend on him for survival and I think it's different than he expected it would be.

By page 5, I was already swooning over Perry again.

Perry held her against him. "I missed you," he whispered in her ear. He couldn't hold her close enough. "I should never have let you go. I missed you so much."

and he kept swooning me almost through the entire book...

His eyes were heavy with desire, but she saw something else. A gleam that made her suspicious.

"what?" she asked.

His hands slid to her hips. "You're incredible."

"That's not what you were thinking."

"Was so. I always think that." He leaned in twisting a strand of her hair around his finger as he kissed her bottom lip. "But I was also wondering what you were doing around Butter today."

Aria laughed. That was attractive. She smelled like horse. "Do you ever miss anything?"

Perry smiled. "You, all the time."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME PERRY!!

Roar is one of my favorite characters. I love the relationship he has with both Perry and Aria in this book. He's such a bright spot and adds such a lighthearted feel to some of the heavier spots in this book and he's an incredible friend. At most times I found him to be the strongest character of the three.

He's loved Perry's sister for so long, and he's been searching for her for over a year. If you remember, Vale traded her for supplies for the Tides to Sable and she never arrived, protesting the idea that she was simply something to barter. His search continues in this book and I wanted to hate Liv from the first time we meet her, but I just couldn't because of the way he felt for her. I have to say... hopefully this isn't giving anything away, but I hope that we haven't seen the last of her (I have predictions people!! Or maybe they are hopes and dreams?? LOL)

I don't want to get into too much, as it is, this review is already kind of spoilerish but let me say that the character growth in this second book is wonderful. I can't say enough how much I adored what Rossi has done.

This has left me dying to know more... I felt all the emotions of the characters. Rossi had me swooning, smiling, laughing and then in the next chapter I was angry, sad, and heartbroken. That to me makes a great book and a great story.

I'm excited to see where the next book in this series goes. I know Cinder will be playing a huge part of that, and I'm excited to see more of Perry and Aria's relationship. How he manages his feelings for her and at the same time comes into his own as Blood Lord of The Tides. I predict that it will not be easy, but I can't wait.

I'm obviously leaving big parts out of this review because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone. Just please go read Under the Never Sky if you haven't so you'll be ready to dive into this one when it comes out in January, 2013.

Veronica Rossi - you've made me a total fangirl.
