Burn to Rise #3

________

"We don't need to be perfect. Broken chords can also be part of a song."

After a decade of friendship and a shared passion for music that is borderline obsessive, Chris had assumed that unless they came to a dead end of irreconcilable differences, nothing would ever change between him and Marc.

He couldn’t have been more wrong.

With a bright future ahead of them and their band, the lead guitarist of Buried Alive finds himself swamped in dark memories and impulses that he thought were long forgotten when a new, yet strangely familiar desire strikes in the middle of the Burn to Rise festival.

He’s never felt attracted to another man, much less a friend, but the bassist has something he can’t fight, no matter how hard he tries to ignore the urge. Maybe it’s his voice or how he looks at him, or the way his touch ignites his soul.

However, intentionally blind or unaware that Marc has been in love with him for years, Chris’s constant hesitation causes friction, leading to a rift when their relationship is challenged by the past.

Torn between his fears and what he wants, Chris will be forced to come to terms with his feelings and admit that this is a lot more than just a fling, or risk losing Marc and everything they’ve built altogether.

Of Chords and Dreams is a bisexual awakening and best friends-to-lovers romance between guitarist and bassist Chris and Marc. These two definitely go on one wild rollercoaster throughout their story. When these two are in sync their chemistry is on fire and when they are at odds, their fighting is also on another level.

Their story brought forward a lot of emotions while I was reading it, which shows the author's ability to expertly convey how confusing Marc and Chris feel towards their dynamic changes.

What I really appreciated from this story is the high level of devotion and loyalty both Marc and Chris have for one another. They are both invested in the other's well-being, which slowly morphs into romantic feelings. Their relationship is complicated, confusing, and full of raw emotions. Chris goes on an intense journey throughout this story and I was so proud of his growth towards the end.

Overall this is a great rockstar, best friend's romance. I loved getting the intimate relationship details of all the bandmates and I think it really was a great compliment to the budding romance between Chris and Marc. Their love story is quite emotional and made for a wonderful hard-won HEA.

of Chords and Dreams

A beautiful story from start to finish!

Let me just start off by praising the writing style! The attention to detail and the ability to set the scene so vividly I felt like I was there … brilliant! I felt with them, saw through their eyes, and heard their music.

Chris was such a complex character for how much of a “party boy” he came across as in the first 2 books. It was painful and beautiful to see the deeper parts of him and to watch his struggle. He had his reasons for being hesitant, and no one can fault him for that. But to watch him rise above them and learn himself was the true beauty.

And Marc was the absolute perfect person to go through it all with. I have such a soft spot for this bassist! While getting bits and pieces of what he wanted, worrying about the outcome, and keeping his heart in check, he helped Chris just by being his true self. Loved him.

I also just have to say how mind-blown I am by the author’s ability to weave the timeline in with the festival in Beyond the Lights!

The spice. The emotions. All the feels! One of my top reads in 2023!

"If someone makes you feel like music does, you should never let them go."

Of Chords and Dreams is the third book in the Burn to Rise series by the wonderful, new-to-me author L.A. Cannon, and whilst it can totally be read as a standalone (which is exactly what I did) in retrospect, I would have liked to have read the first two books in the series first, just to get the background to the band and to Leah's story. Book 1 Behind the Lights and book 2 Beyond the Lights are MF and are pretty dark I understand, (they are both on my book shelf ready to be devoured!) but this instalment is MM, which is my favurite genre.

Be aware that this is written in the third person, which personally took me a bit of getting used to.

Of Chords and Dreams is Chris and Marc's story. They are the lead guitarist and bass player in a rockband that rises to preeminence during the course of the story and they have been best friends for over a decade. Chris is straight (or so he thinks) and a total commitment-phobe and Marc is bi, having had one or two serious relationships including one long-term with another guy. He's secretly been in love with Chris for years but has kept a lid on his feelings, not wanting to destroy their relationship or put the band in jeopardy.

Things start to change between them when they have a threesome with a consenting female, which leads to something physical happening between the two of them during the course of the liaison.........and Chris totally freaks out.

The way their relationship develops, physically first and then as the reality of their growing feelings becomes apparent, makes for a fabulous read. This is an angsty, best friends to lovers, opposites attract, bi-awakening, rockstar romance - with all the feels. And all the steam! 😈

Marc grinned that beautiful smile of his. “You’re a mess. I’m a mess. And that’s fine. We don’t need to be perfect. Broken chords can also be part of a song.”

I totally loved it!

Highly recommended.

loverexreads spoke so highly of this book that I decided to read it right after it’s release. I am so glad I did, because it’s amazing!

The author’s depiction of these men’s experience in the music world felt realistic and exciting. I loved the found family aspect they shared inside the band, but also with their roadies and management team.

Marc and Chris have been friends and bandmates for a decade. From the very beginning I could feel a certain interest in Chris to be closer to Marc, who was unrequitedly in love with him. I felt for Marc so much because he thought having the minimum from Chris was better than not having him at all. The longing and pining was real, but Marc was extremely patient and chose to not take certain things personally.

Although loving one of his best friends was a silent torture, the dark side of this unspeakable and powerful emotion was an agony Marc gladly embraced.

The struggles and fears surrounding Chris’ bi-awakening were written in such a raw and emotional way. He dealt with a number of difficulties in his childhood that shaped his vision of what his sexuality should be and they are not easy to overcome.

There was something in his expression, something like hesitation and fear, but also rapture and lust. It was daunting. Chris had never felt this way, equally enthralled and confused.

There was a number of scenes that might frustrate some readers (I won’t spoil it 🤭), but I think they were necessary for the development of Chris and Marc’s relationship. They helped bring clarity to Chris on his attraction and feelings towards Marc.

The spice scenes in this book were PERFECTION! They were kinky, raw and so emotional 🤩.

He had fantasized a thousand times about how it would be to kiss this man, but never in his entire life had he imagined it’d be this good.

He’d never felt such intimacy with anyone. The inner peace and tranquility mixed with the lust... It’d been such a physical and mental high. As if he’d strummed a chord within his system, opening a door to an alternative universe full of possibilities.

I highly encourage you to give this book a try!

”…Marc had never asked for more. He was bisexual. Chris straight. The math simply didn’t math.”
3.5⭐️ rounded up, 4🌶️

This book was hard for me to rate because on the one hand I don’t feel like I have any major criticisms, but on the other it frustrated me a bit so I’ve settled on just rounding up and that’s what feels right after letting my feelings sit for a while.

It’s incredibly well written, the characters have depth and make you feel, and the spice is nearly off the charts. There is lots of group play so while the main romance is MM, there is also MFM, MMF, MMM, and off-page MFMF scenes.

The main conflict is Chris himself. The way a few key people spoke to him while he was younger made him bury any thoughts of finding men attractive so when lines get crossed with his best friend during a threesome he really struggles to come to terms with his sexuality. He doesn’t handle it well. He repeatedly acts like a dick to all his bandmates but Marc understands and loves him so they always find their way back to each other. All of this while on tour with their band and other people looking on. It’s a lot for anyone to deal with but this situation makes it so much more intense!

I think for me personally if the ex boyfriend drama hadn’t happened it would’ve been a solid 4-4.5 but it really frustrated me how it all went down - Marc didn’t even want to go so why did he?! The miscommunication here caused a series of events at the end that made the book feel a bit long and overly angsty to me.

But if you’re into super angsty rockstars, sexual awakenings that aren’t easy, and intimate group dynamics - you won’t go wrong with this one. It’s not 100% for me, but it might be for you 😘

“If someone makes you feel like music does, you should never let them go.”

I received an advanced copy for review - all opinions are my own.

4.5 ✨

“Marc forcefully took Chris’s jaw in his hand while staring into his eyes. ‘You’re gonna be the fucking end of me,’ he said between gasps.”

What a beautiful ride. This book is grit and heart and self discovery.

Marc and Chris are bandmates and have been best friends for years. Marc is bi and has been pining (oh the pining!) for his “straight” bff.

So we have a beautiful bi awakening. To be warned, it’s not easy for Chris to accept his new desires and feelings. There are big ups and big downs. But he gets there, and it’s beautiful. 🥹

“He side-glanced at Marc, feeling that stupid flutter in his stomach all over again when he looked at him. This late puberty was hitting so hard it wasn’t even funny.”

I am new to this author and really enjoyed her writing style. You will FEEL a lot when reading this book. All the feelings really. From swoony, chest achy goodness to 🥵🥵 to “omg dude, make a move!”

The emotional stuff HIT. I got teary a few times and fist pumped the air at 2 am when I read their HEA.

You will love this book if you enjoy:
✨rockstar romance
✨best friends to lovers
✨bi awakening
✨high spice with lots of kink

I can’t wait to see what LA gives us next 🤍

I really hope this author writes more mm, I’m almost tempted to go and read the mf duet this was so good. Just the right amount of angst, perfect tension and chemistry, the steam was insane. Also a surprising amount of communication for this trope

This was very very spicy and more entertaining than I thought it was gonna be.

Not let the size of the book scare you, as you we'll get to see a lot of character growth and some very romantic/hot moments between the MCs.

Overall, this was a fun read with some angst and a lot of pining + metal music!

I am really struggling to put into words to describe how amazing this book was. This was the first read for me by this author, but it had me so hooked I plan to go back and read the duet before this! Everything about it made me love it, the writing style, the characters, the steam, and the story's development! In other words, this book has put me in a major slump! Marc and Chris were utterly explosive, tension building between them and because they trust one another, helps allow Chris to explore his newly discovered attraction. The emotions that the author ripped from me were high and low and all around mind bending, but it is safe to say I think L.A. Cannon is sitting at the head of the table of my favourite authors!

Even before I started reading Of Chords and Dreams, I had a very strong feeling that I was going to love this book. I don't know why exactly, but this novel spoke to me. The blurb, the tropes and the fact it's a rock star romance on top of that. Now that I've finished it, I can tell you that it was even more than I'd hoped for. It was nothing less than a masterpiece.

I loved how unapologetic L.A. Cannon was about how she saw the relationship between Chris and Marc evolving. There was something in their arc that had the potential to upset some readers and maybe even discourage them from giving the book a chance. But it was certainly the way the story was meant to be told, and I respect L.A. Cannon all the more for that. Yes, there were a few smut scenes in which Chris and Marc were with women. Normally that's not my favourite thing in MM romances, but I have to admit that here it made a lot of sense for the MCs. These scenes were catalysts for advancing the relationship between the two men. I don't see how the story could have been told without these crucial moments.

I'm a sucker for the bi-awakening trope and Chris's was definitely one of my favourites. This man and his conflicting emotions touched me deeply. It was a long road for him to come to terms with his feelings for Marc. Luckily for Chris, Marc was extremely patient, even if it was often to his own detriment. The crescendo of their love story was brilliantly told with heartfelt emotion and all wrapped up in smoky hot sex. These boys were insatiable, and frankly, it was never too much since it was so well interwoven into the narrative.

Of Chords and Dreams felt like a pretty realistic portrait of what the touring lifestyle could be like. I appreciated this authentic aspect to the story. I could almost hear the explosive music of Buried Alive, Chris and Marc's band.

So to say that I'm obsessed with Of Chords and Dreams is an understatement. I'm infatuated with every little detail that encompasses this universe and especially the characters, who are bigger than life. All that remains is for me to tell you to pick up Of Chords and Dreams and dive into this compelling and steamy story.

Look, I believe you all when you say this was awesome. For me this totally did not work whatsoever.

🎸All the European references are stunted and overreaching,
🎸the 3rd person pov storytelling somehow totally does not work here
🎸the length of this book is jarring.
🎸I'm bored, I don't even want to get to the good stuff, and
🎸the constant reference to F in this MM is the final No in the coffin that is this book for me.

And I'm mad about it because I really was looking forward to a good rock star romance. They are really few and far between unfortunately.

Also, this sub trope is friends-to-lovers and wherever that's the case we really don't need the entire internal monologue to be this extensive. There is no way I would have gotten through this book unscathed. Too wordy.

Whaaaaa this book was something, I really enjoyed how you can see the day pass and how we follow Chris and Marc on their journey toward success and also their journey as a couple. One thing is sure the last journey was intense and full of hardship.

Chris is such a complex character, he suffered a lot, still does sometimes when his own brain decides to put him down. But what I loved the most about this character is that he still found a way to be there for his best friend, he’s really supportive but he also has his moment of madness where his insecurities take control and hurt anyone in his periphery. Meanwhile, Marc is different but also caring, companionate and he’s been deeply in love with Chris for several years. When Chris finally opens a door for him, he cannot deny that he wants it but he’s scared of the aftermath.

Be ready for an intense journey toward love, acceptance, the story has some dark sides but it is necessary ! We’re being transported into the world of a metal band with its up and down, I had a wonderful time and now I’m back to listening to my favourite metal playlist.

I received an ARC Copy of this book, this review is from my own thought 😍

"𝙈𝙐𝙎𝙄𝘾 𝙈𝘼𝙆𝙀𝙎 𝙀𝙑𝙀𝙍𝙔𝙏𝙃𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝘽𝙀𝙏𝙏𝙀𝙍"

4 ⭐️ 4 🌶

This was a new to me author and L.A. Cannon did not disappoint! Of Chords and Dreams is book 3 of the Burn to Rise series but can be read as a standalone. I am interested in going back to read about the band & Leah's story in books 1 & 2.

“𝑰𝒇 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔, 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎 𝒈𝒐.”

It took me a few chapters to get used to 3rd person again, and once I overcame that, I flew through this MM Rockstar Romance! Diving into it because I just kept needing more of these guys.

Marc has been in love with his "straight" best friend & bandmate for years. While Chris is a total playboy, living and loving the single rockstar life, and is completely oblivious that his bestie is pining for him. Sex, drugs, and rock n roll! 🤘🤘

This entire story was different than anything I've read in a while, and I loved that. The dynamic between the two mc's was so authentic and realistic, and so was the portrayal of their lifestyle. The author was able to "paint the picture" so vividly. These two mc's have been friends for a decade. And while Chris feels like he can't rely on others & is struggling mentally, Marc is a patient friend, a pretty open book, & a genuinely happy person.

Throughout their friendship, it came as no surprise that these rockstar's share their sexual partners, have threesomes, and group sex. After some of these sexual encounters, Chris struggles with his identity and feelings towards his bassist friend. Projecting thoughts of things he heard as he was growing up about what is considered normal in society or not. I Love that the author included this into the characters' struggles. It was so relatable. After Chris & Marc start a friends with benefits arrangement, Chris' internal struggles ensue. I could totally relate to Chris on so many levels. It really allowed me to empathize with him as a character. His turmoil and both mc's emotions could really be felt throughout the entire story. Marc was so patient, and I was really anticipating Chris' breakthrough moment to just be honest with himself and be who he was. There were no disappointments here and a satisfying HEA.

“𝑴𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒎𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒐.”

The Smut. Jesus, the smut was explosive, kinky, spicy, & sexy 🔥🔥🔥 It was everything I need in a bi-awakening story.

"𝑽𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒔. 𝑹𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔. 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒍. 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒖𝒏𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒅 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚’𝒅 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝒗𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆."

If you love a great MM, friends to lovers, bi-awakening, rockstar romance with tons of pining, angst, fighting for dominance, with all the emotions, & kinky, hot as hell smut, then you need to read Of Chords and Dreams!

“𝒀𝒐𝒖’𝒓𝒆 𝒂 𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒔. 𝑰’𝒎 𝒂 𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒔. 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕’𝒔 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒆. 𝑾𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕. 𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒂 𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒈.”

L.A. Cannon's writing style, this book and this series are literal art. Of Chords and Dreams may be the first MM story that she has written, but you would never know it. She has created something that these men would be proud of.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I love that Cannon kept her signature writing style: 3rd person POV, melodic and powerful vibes and a focus on both music and mental health. (I know everyone doesn't like 3rd person POV, but the way Cannon writes it makes her books feel more intimate and mature.) I love even more that she has given this book its own feel. It still fits into the style of the Burn to Rise series, but it feels like it's own book too. It doesn't feel like a spin-off but a well thought out and planned story that goes along with the first two books in this series.

I love how Cannon intertwined the past and the present in this novel, giving us more perspective on how their band, Buried Alive, came to be and it's pre-Burn to Rise days, as well as more background on these men, their friendship and their chemistry.

As always, Cannon's attention to detail and ability to make her characters seem real is incredible. She has a talent of showing the internal thoughts and struggles of her characters. I love that there is a complexity to her characters; that they aren't always just what meets the eye. So much so that I feel like I know these characters on a deeper level, and I wish I could know them more, go to their concerts and listen to their music.

A special note has to be made about the incredible character development that Cannon has written and her realistic portrayal of Chris' bi-awakenking. Not only does it feel realistic, but she dug deep to show how Chris' past made him who he was and then helped him to free himself and be who he truly is. And she did it all in a way that worked perfectly for him.

❤ the banter, dark humour, sarcasm and love between these friends and bandmates

❤ the gem of a human Chris is. I love that we get to see deeper into his character, deeper than the bad boy with no filter that he shows the world. He grew so much. And is so giving.

❤ Marc. His acceptance of his unrequited love for Chris, his patience and tolerance, the man he hides under his calm and cool attitude, and the fact that he is always there to listen when someone needs to talk. He deserves the world.

❤ the connection between these men. From the connection they have as friends to the connection they share through their love of music and playing to the connection they share intimately.

❤ the spice. And that these men maintained their masculinity and their dominant alpha statuses. And that f*cking  sexy Prince Albert piercing.

❤ the glimpses we got of Leah and Soren, and Eric and Julia.

❤ how well Leah and Chris know each other... like they can read each other, see right through each other and feel each other's emotions. Ans how protective they are of each other.

❤ the scene where Chris shares his story with his client. It felt beautiful and healing.

❤ that ending. And the fact that Marc got everything he wanted. And how good Chris fits into being who he becomes.

❤ the dedication. "To the broken, the lost souls, and the wayward. You belong."

❤ the overall feeling of hope

❤ Music. And how it plays such a big roll in who these characters are and what this story and book is.

📖 "Music was their way of expressing, of feeling the things they didn't let themselves feel otherwise, of facing their problems. It was oxygen to their lungs and the pulse that sent blood rushing through their veins. Music was life."

📖 "It was a family by music, not by blood, and still, there was little he wouldn't do for them."

📖 "You're a mess. I'm a mess. And that's fine. We don't need to be perfect. Broken chords can also be part of a song."

❤⭐🧡⭐💛⭐💚⭐💙⭐💜

Be ready to feel all the emotions and fall in love with these men.

I went into this book with a lot of expectations.
MM rockstar romance? Friends to lovers? Bi-awakening? Alpha males? Powerplay? Intense pining? Tons of kinks? Mental health representation? It is everything I'm obsessed with.
And let me tell you something: I wasn't disappointed.

L.A. isn't afraid to write about complex topics and it was refreshing. We were able to see and feel Chris and Marc's raw emotions.
The struggles Chris went through to accept his sudden attraction to his best friend are told in a really tough and honest way. At the same time, Marc is being so understanding and patient with him.

It was incredible to witness Chris and Marc's evolution as a person and their development from friends to friends with benefits and lovers.
Going through all the ups and downs, both characters insecurities and doubts about themselves, their relationship, and Buried Alive – their band, future.
It was so well-paced. Was it frustrating sometimes? Yeah, of course, but we can't really blame Chris for being so lost. If Marc can bear with it, I guess we can too.
Even before this new step in their relationship, they really love and care about each other, they're there for each other every time and are connected on a deep level. They only added sex and romantic feelings ( on Chris's end ) to it.

Books written in the 3rd person aren't my favorite, but with L.A.'s writing style, it's pure magic. It makes you live the story like you're a part of it. You feel like a part of the group. 🎸

Hold on tight because a lot is happening. It's not a light story ( check the triggers before reading ) Nothing is acquired.
This book is a roller coaster of emotions.
I was so invested from beginning to end. Putting it down was really difficult.
But in the end, I'm so proud of these boys because they fought really hard against their own beliefs and insecurities to have their happy ending. 💖

Also, I read tons of incredible spicy scenes but in this book? It's a whole other level. I couldn't get enough & there is a fair amount already.
They were all so gooooood! Even the MMF and I'm usually not a fan in MM books (the MMM one tho 😍)
The trust and love in these scenes were beautiful.

If you love tension, banter, strong friendships, found family, music, real kinky scenes, and heartwarming MCs & still hesitate to start this book: do it, you won't regret it.
Of Chords and Dreams has it all.

Special mention for chapters 22 & 25, mind-blowing.

I had the chance to received an ARC and this is my honest review.

My most anticipated read of the year.
After meeting Marc and Chris as side characters in the first two books in the Burn to Rise series, I was thrilled that these two would have their own story. Don't worry. You can read this one as a standalone.

I have a tiny obsession with rockstar romances, and this book fed that hunger.
Marc (bassist) and Chris (guitarist) are part of the band Buried Alive. These guys and their band mates are moving up in the music world quickly. Big festivals and new venues mean new people and new adventures.

We're able to see Marc pining over Chris, which I found sweet but also wanted to scream, "TELL HIM!" It wouldn't be a slow burn then, would it?

Life isn't that easy, though, and we really dive into what made Chris, Chris. I appreciated how he tried to wrap his head around who he was and that Marc took the time to listen and ask the right questions.

Now, of course, the adventures mentioned leading to some incredibly spicy moments with these gorgeous musicians. The passion, the right words, and new discoveries had me pausing to sip cool water to cool me off. I loved the detail in these moments.

“I wouldn’t say I’ve missed you. You’re a nuisance of a human being when you get so cocky, but I’ve missed your voice crying out my name.”

L.A. Cannon did a spectacular job telling Marc and Chris' story, and I wish there was more.

Thank you kindly for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. You know how much I adore these two.

Of Chords and Dreams is the next instalment of L.A. Cannon’s Burn to Rise series. Oh my god! I adore being back in this world. . This story is filled with Cannon’s signature steam and angst. Honestly, it was everything I wanted.

Chris and Marc are the founding members of the German metal band, Buried Alive. The pair's friendship plunges into murky waters as the lines are crossed during a group hook-up. Chris is forced to confront that maybe he is not as straight as originally thought and Marc is working overtime to protect his heart as the object of his unrequited love is finally showing him attention.

There is a delightfully surprising BDSM twist to their dynamic, which I just ate right up. Marc, under his calm, peaceful exterior, lies a primal Dom and Chris for all his alpha bravado is the brattiest bottom I think I’ve ever read. The scene in the motel room? If you know, you know!

These boys own my heart and soul! I am so glad they got their HEA, even if the angst hurt so good! I have my fingers and toes crossed that we get another book in the world because I’m greedy. I’m not ready to leave these characters and this world behind just yet.

I absolutely love love love this author and everything she writes! Chris and Marc with their chemistry, drama, and life just pull you into their story and it’s such a roller coaster ride of emotions. Seeing them grow as people and figuring things out, as their relationship develops. I loved every second and devoured this book. I can’t wait to read her next book.

‘You’re a mess, I’m a mess and that’s fine. We don’t need to be perfect. Broken chords can also be part of a song.’

😭😭😭😭😭

This book. YA’LL. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made blush! LA Cannon made me fall in love with her boys and their journey from inseparable bestfriends to lovers and I found it SO HARD to put down. Marc’s pining, Chris’s struggle with himself and who thought he should be vs. who he was becoming…it’s just so well written! I couldn’t get enough!

And the spice. THE SPICE 🥵 holy crap, it made me blush, I felt like I needed several cold showers. The two alpha males battling for dominance and discovering eachother in this book has delivered some of the hottest smut I’ve read in this year. It was a wild ride and I will be going back for more!

If you love bestfriends to lovers, intense pining, bi-awakening, super hot, super spicy and kinky smut, and so so many feelings, then this rockstar romance is totally for you! You’ve got to read this!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author and am leaving and honest review!

I have been following this series since the start, so you can imagine my excitement when I realized that the next book in the series was a MM romance with best friends to lovers and a bi awakening, which are all of my favourite things to read about. This book sounds like it was made for me and it did not dissapoint, this was everything I wanted it to be.

I loved the romance in this one and I just loved how much they loved each other and how they were ready to do everything for each other, it was so perfect to me.

“You’re a mess. I’m a mess. And that’s fine. We don’t need to be perfect. Broken chords can also be part of a song.”

This didn’t need to be 448 pages but I still enjoyed it

The lump in his throat grew when he curled around him, spooning the bassist and nuzzling his neck with a hand resting on his waist. It had been ages since he felt this dire need to hold someone like this. But nothing had ever come close to the sensation of Marc intertwining his fingers with his, kissing his knuckles, and then bringing their joined hands to his chest, right over his heart.

The tension? The chemistry? The tease? Chef kiss
“I think you’re more into men than you say.”
“Don’t know about that,” the guitarist husked against his jaw before biting him. “But I’m definitely into you.”

Idk why but I loved this scene so much
“Look at this,” he said. It was a stupid image with a woman grinning while eating cereal and a pun written over it—“your birth certificate is an apology from the condom factory”.

“Download it and send it to Luca.”

“Rude.”

“Thanks.” Chris grinned. “Oh my God,” he cackled. “My grandma could do better and she’s dead. Save that one too.”

“You really have issues.”

“You’re the one following all these accounts.”

“I look calm, but in my head, I’ve punched you in the face three times. Man, this is Uwe with all of us.” Marc laughed, brushing off his snarky retort. “Oh, and this is so you, I love when people insult me. It means I don’t have to play nice anymore.”

“You want my foot up your ass?”
The bassist laughed even louder.

ARC review!

This was my first rockstar romance, and now I know I love them! A bi awakening, pining, tension, possessive and devoted alpha hero. What’s not to love? Plus the writing style was beautiful and it flowed brilliantly.

I received this arc not realizing it’s part of a series (that’s a my bad) but they stand on their own wonderfully! I enjoyed this book and will definitely go back and read the other two!

Of Chords and Dreams by @l.a.cannon

PLOT: This plot was very entertaining. Like there is a difference between enjoying the novel because oh hey the characters are just moving in life, but no, this was so entertaining, the banters. The laughs. The plot was very gripping and I felt it was beyond realistic actually. I loved every moment of this book.

CLIFFHANGERS: There were a few scenes that did leave cliffhangers and they had me go WHAT?! BRING WHATEVER THIS IS BACK TO THE TABLE. Yes, I screamed a lot in frustration reading this novel.

SPICE: This spice was different than my usual reads...but oh my gawd. I think what I loved more than the actual spice, it was the chemistry developing in the characters which caused the spiciness to be worth a while. Definitely a slow-burn in my eyes.

DETAILS: This novel was in third person, so it was also not my usual read. But the details were to perfection. I loved it! LOVED IT. The author described everything from the tiniest scratch to strands of hair. Sue me, I loved all the details. Which I didn't expect to grasp because it's third person, but whew.

EMOTIONS: I gave it an infinite symbol, which means the emotions had me curled up into a ball as I was reading and cried my heart out and had my jaw dropped. The motions were so intense that it didn't just touch my heart, but touched my soul.

I didn't know what I was getting into when reading this novel. It was out of my comfort zone, or let's say the usual reads, this book was in third perspective and a novel that's LGBT, well mostly a Bi-Awakening, but still, it was my first read and it surely did not disappoint one bit! The feelings and emotions I felt reading this novel...I finished this book at 4 a.m and let me say, I was lost for words.
But I must say...chapter 24/25...nah I won't spoil this guys, go read it yourself.

Of Chords & Dreams is a bi-sexual awakening MM rockstar romance (so all my favourite things in one?) that is truly fantastic. I am usually not a fan of friends to lovers but this has sky-rocketed in to my top 10 reads of the year despite that because it was so well written and the depth of the characters is wonderful.

This book took me on an absolute ride of emotions; I can’t remember the last book that had me feeling such a range of things in such a short period of time. Could not put it down once I started and stayed up until 3.30am finishing it level of engrossed in it. I usually struggle at the start of books written in 3rd person but this had me from the first page: LA really makes it feel like you’re right there watching it all play out.

L.A. Cannon perfectly captured the confusion of Chris’ feelings and the heartache of Marc and his “unrequited” love for Chris over all the years; the guilt, the anger, the sadness - keep your tissues handy because I sobbed multiple times throughout their story. I felt so connected and in tune with the characters and how they were dealing with everything, their emotional turmoil and struggles which is a testament to a book beautifully written. The mental health representation was spot on too, so refreshing to see it tackled so openly and earnestly by an author.

For those who have read the first duet in the burn to rise series it’s interesting to see Leah and Søren again from a different perspective - and finally find out what happened on the tour bus *that* night. On that note: the spice is spicing. Lots of group “activities” for these boys as they go through their journey and exploration of their sexualities.

All round 5 stars, fantastic, would recommend but please as always do check triggers

One thing about L.A.Cannon is that her writing is incredible and beautiful, and she doesn't hesitate to dive deeper into her characters' heads and give importance to mental health issues.

Marc and Chris are such an excellent duo. They've been best friends before they became lovers, and I ain't gonna lie, friends-lovers hits deep in a different way.

I LOVE how Cannon showed us all the pining from Marc. He's such a sweetheart😭🩷

AND HE'S A DOM??!!😩🤌🏼🦋

Chris, my beautiful broken mess of a baby..... Watching this man struggle to accept the sudden change in his sexuality and shut away his crew at the beginning was so heart-wrenching.

Marc not pushing him and be so patient with Chris despite being in love with him for years; that was heart-achingly beautiful to witness.

I love how L.A.Cannon kept it all so realistic❤️

And them adopting Theo? Oh, be still my heart🦋

(Note: This honest review is in exchange for the ARC copy I received. Thank you for sending me a copy of this beautiful baby❤️)

Of Chords & Dreams (ARC)

L A Cannon brings us right back into the thick of the Burn to Rise festival, and the amazing banter between this group of musicians/friends/music family (if you haven’t read the Burn to Rise duet yet what are you waiting for)

Chris the guitarist, a self proclaimed man-whore, with no filter, who has a heart of gold he keeps hidden from everyone but his nearest & dearest, & Marc the quiet, reflective, music shop owner & bassist, started Buried Alive together, and their friendship has gone from strength to strength along with the rise of the band’s success.

Marc has been crushing on Chris for years but knowing Chris is straight has kept his feelings buried, being on the other side of the globe, on tour, in a confined tour bus, it’s no surprise that with Chris’ lack of filter & ‘neediness’ Marc is having trouble keeping his feelings chained up.

The story goes between the current timeline & a couple of years previous giving the reader an insight into the events that have happened in Marc & Chris’ lives that has helped form the base of their friendship, and later due to the trust they have in each other, the formation of their sexual relationship.

The sexual tension between these 2 is off the charts, Chris trust Marc implicitly & vice versa, & because of this trust it allows Chris to explore that raw chemistry between them, as well as his desires.

I fell in love with these two whilst reading the Burn to Rise duet, (and these 2 are currently joint top on my book couple goals list) and I have been waiting not so patiently to find out what happened during THAT night on the tour bus (if you’ve read the duet, you know which night I’m talking about 😉) & even if you haven’t read the duet I can tell you that scene doesn’t disappoint 🥵🥵 though that night is the catalyst that causes a crack in the foundations of their friendship, and the high running emotions start to affect the band’s dynamic as well. Chris runs through a string of emotions, Whilst Marc runs heavy towards the guilt train

Be prepared to go on an emotional rollercoaster, the highs are the highest and the sexy times 🥵😉🥵 but the lows, (box of tissues at the ready guys)

LA has the amazing ability to draw you into this world by writing in the 3rd person, it makes you feel as if you’re right there watching the story play out in front of you, & she is able to draw emotions out of even the thickest skinned people, LA is not afraid to tackle the subject of mental health, the preconceptions society has forced upon us regarding sexuality and she does so with grace, poise & understanding.

On a side note I’m loving the fact that we get to see Leah & Soren again!! I have mad love for those 2!!
