I think so far, the only one who knew how to write a good female assassin story well in this saga is Brutger. The same thing didn't happen here as in the other books, which was to put aside the girls' mission in favor of building the harem. It was the book that had everything from action, to assassinations, to guns and plots and planning aside from the romance. Tabitha so far is the most real character I have read in this saga, she behaves like an assassin, due to her past she doesn't know how to integrate into society and it is complicated for her to maintain a relationship, besides being lethal in some situations and innocent in others. I'll give the author that, because our protagonist somehow felt more real than the other Belladonnas.
She also knew well how to do a 50/50 on relationship building and world building, she didn't leave out the reason Tabitha was assigned to that case for prioritizing the relationship and vice versa. Good there.
Now, the reason I'm only giving it 3 stars and no more. I didn't like any of the men. I mean, I don't know what happened with them, but I just couldn't feel that spark between them and the heroine.
I couldn't connect with any of their pasts or their actions, nor did I fully buy into their love for her. The problem with these standalone books is that the authors have to make the relationships in a snappy way. There is so little time to build the relationship with the boys well that it feels very unbelievable romance. Instalove was never my thing, unless I'm in the mood for a short story, otherwise I can't take those relationships seriously because I feel like a woman with other similar characteristics will come along and they'll feel the same way they do about the main character, unlike a slow burn book where we're slowly shown why they fell in love with her and put a solid relationship in place for us. The only defense I give the author is that the relationship didn't feel so rushed, especially because of Tabitha compared to the other books.
If it wasn't for that part, it would have been 4.5 stars. As for the rest, very good Brutger.
