From the new pen name Maggie Fern, Callie Moss brings you the long awaited second book in the Horrors & Heartthrobs Series…

It’s crazy how quickly things can change. One day, I had the perfect marriage, the perfect husband, the perfect house. A perfect life in a perfectly safe suburbia neighborhood. Only thing is Oliver wasn’t perfect, nothing was. Not beyond its shiny, attractive surface anyway. I hated him with every ounce of my being. In my mind, my options were limited…at least that’s what I told myself. How I justified the carnage when faced with the things I’d done.

Oliver Neilson has been missing for five months now. Five months of peace I hadn’t known for years. They say I did it. I hear their whispers, see their judgmental stares. The police hear it too. It’s only a matter of time before I have to atone for every lie, every misdeed. That was until he showed up. Those honey-colored eyes, the small freckle on the left side of his nose near the tip. He’s a perfect replica of my husband. I should be happy, relieved even, but I’m not. I’m horrified. Because that could not possibly be Oliver Neilson.

Welcome Home is a standalone dark horror romance part of the Horror and Heartthrobs series. This book contains content that may be upsetting to some readers. For a detailed list of the content beyond these pages please check out the warnings tab on my author website.

One of the best books I've read of 2023.
I loved EVERYTHING: both main characters, the plot, the smut🔥🔥
My only complaints: I felt the ending was a little rushed and incomplete, I feel like we were due many more details about the Hero's origin and species and how they could get away with all the killings but how I felt about the hero totally makes up for it. He was wonderful, a little mean and cruel at the right times but oh-so devoted and in love and absolutely obsessed with the heroine and very outspoken about it which I loved. I loved the heroine as well: she was mistreated and abused her whole life, but she endured even when she let people walk all over her so I LOVED every minute of her getting her revenge.
Something to be aware of (SPOILERS)

There are flashbacks of moments we see Oliver (HE is NOT the Hero) while he abused the heroine, including being a serial cheater. But I repeat, he is NOT the main character. If you need more details about safety let me know. But I personally consider it 100% safe.

"See now you've gone and woken my wife. She needs her rest if she plans to take me again tonight."

DEAR LORD.

I was not expecting to be completely sucked into this book. Not only did it have a genuinely intriguing concept/trope, but the spice?? The OTT MC??? The PLOT?? The shapeshifter peen????????? Um, HELLO. I was so sold.

Without trying to give too much away, when I initally began reading this book, I was a little bit confused. We're immediately thrown into the drama that our FMC is currently living in. At first I thought it was one thing, then I thought it was another thing, and then it ended up being something else. I was trying to piece everything together in the first two chapters, but I'm glad I wasn't able to because the ending was all that better.

Vosz is a character that I have most certainly fallen in love with, so I don't blame Cora and all her internal struggle because same.

Cora struggled a lot before Vosz came into her life and I'm glad that he was able to change a negative narrative into a positive one. The things he did for her? Can someone do that for me too?

Like I mentioned, I don't want to give much away but if you're looking for a type of monster/ET book with good thigh clenching spice, an MC with jealous tendencies, and criminal activities then LOOK no further. I loved this book so much!

Please check Tw's before reading.

So, this was kind of an interesting story. I didn't really care about the plot, like the detective circling them. The domestic/neighborhood part of the plot was good though. I wish more about Vosz had been explained. Like, just call him a primordial being that evolved into what he is now and call it done.

The writing was ok at times, but there were missing commas everywhere, which distracted me. Vosz's dirty talk and the nice things he said to Cora were over the top at times. This could have been edited much better. Still, it was entertaining enough and the smut was good.

If anyone has read the reddit nosleep thread about a similar premise and always wished for an actual book/story about the *aftermath*, this one is for you. Actually on second thought, if you're a Tom Hardy/Venom fan, this is definitely for you.

"My life isn’t this place, this body, even this soul if I have one. My life is her, Cora’s smiles, her laughter and her warm breath as it fans across my chest where she sleeps. It’s all the perfect little things that I could never live without, not after having it."

Welcome home was everything i needed it to be. The obsession, the depravity, the strength and unyielding loyalty from a monster in which would allow the the "out-there-ness" (I'm aware its not a word but let it run) of the story, to work.

To the characters:
We have Cora, an antihero of her own. Someone who has been dealt a bad hand in life and lived in a living hell created by her nightmare of a husband. She was strong and did whatever she needed to survive. She was realistic about her flaws, issues and hang ups and i loved that Maggie/Callie made her to be such a self aware queen who knows where shes at in life. She was relatable whilst simultaneously being someone you side eye and THAT is why she was the perfect fit for our replica Oliver... Vozs.

Oliver, or should i say Vozs... now this man (lol) is the definition of a real nightmare (species wise bc he's definitely not human 😂) however he does nothing but try to bring Cora peace, acceptance and safety. I loved him. I loved his love for Cora and how that love drove him to interfere in her life. The fact he fought against his monster instincts to give her time to learn to accept and love him on her own. The fact his only care in the world was for Cora to be happy and free. He was a great MMC with his depraved obsession and one tracked mind and he fit Cora to a T.

Although the premise behind the story is out there and the chemistry is intense, it works. It fits the horror theme whilst meeting the romance requirements. It was a fun, quick read that scratches your itch. My only fault in it would be i wish it was a little bit longer in order to flesh out their romance a teensy bit more, which im aware this could just be my own greed at wanting more of Cora and Vozs. Overall, Welcome Home was a hit. An enjoyable read that easily keeps your attention from start to finish. 🤝🏻

SAFTEY:
> Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5
> Spice level: 🌶🌶🌶.5 / 5
> Main Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5
> Side characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 They were written well, i just hated them all as you're supposed to duh.
> Darkness scale: I would label it a dark romance. Its on brand with the violent and gore theme of a horror romance and definitely may not be everyone cup of tea if you don't enjoy the genre/trope.
> Tropes, themes & triggers: Praise / somnophilia / Abuse (remembered and not current) / mentions of infertility / mentions of cheating (not done by MMC) / Monster Romance / Size difference / violence & gore on page.
> Angst: Little to no angst, depending on your tolerance.
> OW/OM: None.
> Cheating: None between MMC & FMC.
> Grovel: None.
> Ending: HEA (Happily ever after)
> POV: Dual

Wow this was so very different of a story I usually read. But just let me say that it was the best I have read. This has some kind of doppelgänger kind of theme and Vosz was one hot kind of shifter thing, Cora deserves the kind of love Vosz had for her. It sure was an interesting read love every second of it and looking forward to more.

The premise: Cora lives in suburbia as a trophy wife. While her husband Oliver is not violent, he's mighty abusive.
One day he disappeared from the face of the earth. It is implied that Cora had something to hide. However the Police did not find an incriminating clue yet.

Out of the blue, Oliver reappears. He seems so in love with Cora and so much caring. However his wife knows it's not him. It's not SOMEONE else. It's rather SOMETHING else.

Here comes the paranormal element. Just before explaining why this book let me down horribly and why I hated it. I need to explain that paranormal genre is one of my absolute favorites.

I mean by paranormal not the (werewolves/ vampires etc....) Those are really Fantasy genre even though it's labeled as paranormal.
Second I did not know this is a Monster Erotica. Where the MMC is an "IT" (Not Stephen King "it" but something even the author did not name or knows)

An 8 feet monster with humongous dick and a serpent tongue. When that tongue enters you it's more painful that any human dick.

Anyway, this monster's superpower is to wear human skin( after feeding on it) and it takes the form/ memories of that former human.

With the monster inhabiting the skin of Cora's husband, I liked the thriller element. How Cora seemed scared of this entity that is obsessed with her.
How she though that she was imprisoned by a toxic husband and now by a murderous monster. But that lasted like 4 chapters at best.

Then it was painful detailed erotic scenes at the most horrible times. Them going on a killing spree and the fucking in the midst of gore.

The monster inhabiting the skin of a woman than seducing Cora who was very compliant and turned on.
Then he shed the woman's skin back to the man in order to have the human dick. Then Cora decided she needed the monster dick and form. I don't understand how biology of monster works. but he has blue blood, blue cum I guess.
And it gave me a headache of epic proportions.

An ARC was provided for an honest review.

"By all rights, my girl has handled herself well. There's been limited vomiting. She hasn't torn any hair out or dissolved into madness. All very good things."

Stats:
➡️H: Vosz. Swooooon.... obsessive, possessive, OTT he was everything! And the words of endearments? Sweetest love, Cora Dear, my girl, my love

Honestly wish we had some more insight on his *ahem* species or his history. It didn't feel complete. Mild Spoiler-> he has the ability to say..🤔... shapeshift.

➡️h: Cora. Honestly, she was very fun to read. But the darkness the author kept hinting at was in her personality was never explored or even addressed. Vosz accepted that his wife has mild 🥣🔪🩸 tendencies and we moved on. It felt unresolved.

➡️Cheating: None between the MCs (Vosz and Cora). But there is cheating between Cora's husband (Olivier) and Cora. Olivier is NOT the MMC of this book, however, per the blurb Vosz takes Oliviers shape... so to speak.. as a result, we see some drama. Vosz (the MMC) only has eyes for Cora. And on one occasion he actually unalived an OW because she kept touching him even after he told her not to.

➡️OW drama: Gonna be honest, there is some. However, again, none of this OW is with Vosz but instead with Olivier. There are some graphic mentions of Olivier cheating on Cora so this may be triggering. But again, Olivier is NOT the MMC.

I am a safety reader and I dislike OW drama of any kind in my books. Even mentions are not ok for me.. but this book wasn't bad for me. I knew Vosz only had eyes for Cora and he treated her the way she deserved to be treated. So I had no qualms reading about OW about Cora's husband (who has a baby with OW btw).

➡️Plot: 3.5/5 -> The premise of this book is good. But so many things are unresolved. And I get that it is geared about true-crime and mystery but honestly a lot of it felt incomplete as opposed to mysterious. I wish we explored Cora and Vosz's chemistry more. I also wish we had some flashback scenes of Vosz pining after Cora 😭

➡️Spice: 5/5 🔥 Honestly when an obsessed man is involved, the spice is always through the roof! Trigger Warning: Remember Vosz is a shapeshifter... Vosz at one point shifts into a woman and there is a FF (kinda) scene with Vosz as a woman and Cora. Cora knows its Vosz.

This is another plot point I wished was explored. I wouldn't have minded if Cora was attracted to this woman (in a way- call me a hypocrite but I've had enough of two-timing Heroes lol) and we had this scene with Vosz changing into a woman. I wouldn't have even minded if Cora was coaxed into it with the promise of experiencing something new. Honestly, the direction the author took it in is not bad either, however, that doesn't always lead to sexual attraction.

But I did not mind it, I actually kinda enjoyed it 🤷🏻‍♀️😉

"Never in my three hundred and ninety-five years have I made a mistake quite as extreme as Cora. Whatever comes from it, I'll take it. It's worth it to be close to her, to have more than his tainted, biased memories of her to sate me for however long our pitiful existence lasts

(...)

I'll replace it for her later. Can't have my sweetest love hiding from me."

His casual words of endearments... these are my new guilty pleasures in romance books ♥️♥️

"You don't have to pretend with me. I never expected anything real in return, only that you tolerate my love for you. That's enough for me. Let me stay. I'll show you how happy you can be. I'll worship every breath you take."

And boy worship he did 😈

"You're a monster, a liar, and a fucking deviant. Most of all, you're mine. Aren't you? You belong to me, don't you, Cora Dear?"

I love how he's casually seeking reassurances as well.

"She'd made a beeline for the rows of hair dye. I didn't ask. I didn't need to in order to know this was something substantial to my love.

(...)

I watched in awe as she applied the chemical to her hair, being sure to stain every pristine surface she could. Muddying the trendy white and neutral tones with black. The smell was horrid, but my smile was huge.

(...)

She could bathe herself in gasoline and I would worship her skin all the same.

Honestly this book is worth reading, if only to read about a completely obsessed monster catering to the object of his adoration.

Vosz understood when I told him I wanted to do it, that I needed to, and it had little to do with the way I felt after shoving her down the stairs. He of course, insisted on helping with the heavy pieces. Gently pushing me aside, "Cora, my love, there's no need in you straining yourself"

👏🏼 A couple that hides bodies together, stays together 👏🏼

Cannot wait for book 3: Little Lycoris.

First, I can’t believe “Welcome Home” is only 194 pages. I don’t want to go into too much detail with this review for fear of spoiling this story. I went into it blind, as I do most books, and I’m so glad I did. It does contain TW/CWs that readers should note if that’s your method of tackling a new book.

Maggie Fern had me hating past Oliver and loving present Oliver. I felt the same confusion that Cora was battling. I could also justify Cora’s actions without hesitation. “Welcome Home” was every bit of a creepy horror mystery that had a stalkerish feel with some fantastical edge to it. I loved every dark moment of it.

I received a copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved this book it’s a short read. Definitely check out the trigger warnings before started. Once I started I couldn’t put it down finished it in one day. It is a short read but packed with a juicy story that you don’t want to end.

Cora she is stronger then Oliver ever thought she was hidden underneath the weak exterior he saw. The love and adoration that the MMC has for Cora is top tier he would give and do anything to keep her safe and with him. I loved all the banter back and forth that FMC and MMC have at the start of their new relationship.

Callie’s attention to detail in describing MMC true form and his hidden appendages was insane! For a shorter read the spicy was there with a punch and I couldn’t get enough of it. Welcome home is definitely a reread down the road and I can not wait for get a hard copy!

I received a arc for review!

Why can’t I be Cora?

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love my husband with my whole heart and soul… but… in the fictional setting that is the world of Welcome Home, he isn’t Vosz.

Oof! Maggie Fern has done it again and made me swoon over a “man” I should not be swooning after.

Although this was a quick read, it still captured me. I was hooked throughout and loved it! I can’t wait to see what else comes to this series. I’ve been a fan since Now Showing!

Check this and her other work as Callie Moss out, too!

I was really excited to get my hands of this story. Once I read the blurb, and saw some snippets from the author’s TikTok account, I really couldn’t wait to read the novel.

Welcome Home is Cora and Vosz’s love story. Please ensure you read the TW’s before starting the book! I did however, find that this book is a little lighter than the author’s previous work (more of a lighter grey vs dark grey/black). Cora has been through a lot while married to her husband(he was absolutely horrible to her), it starts off with her enjoying her freedom, and trying to keep a low profile, as her husband has been missing for months. There is an investigation going on, and she has been pulled in for questioning multiple times during the months of her husband’s disappearance (she’s the main suspect ofc). Queue our MMC, Vosz 😍, a monster who infiltrates Cora’s life by essentially wearing her Husband’s skin. What I really enjoyed about this book was the authenticity of the character’s personality throughout the story. I really enjoyed that the author had shown Cora’s fear and trauma throughout the novel, she doesn’t just get over it in the few months her tormentor/abuser has been gone, especially when her “husband” re-enters her life. Our MMC Vosz is obsessed with Cora, he just wants to love her in his own way, but he is a monster, and even though he is completely infatuated with Cora, he isn’t human, so he doesn’t completely understand humans/humanity, and the author made sure to write him as such. Underneath his monstrous appearance, he really is just a cinnamon roll hero. A few other things I loved about the book was that he isn’t human, so he has a non-human appearance, and appendage 😏. Also, Callie has written chapter titles, I miss books having chapter titles! It’s a small thing, but I enjoy little details like that. This story is quite unique compared to other monster romance books I have read, so it was refreshing to read, and I couldn’t put it down, finished it in less than a day.

Callie, thank you so much for allowing me to be on your ARC team, this is my honest thoughts and opinions. Im really looking forward to your next book, speaking of, I think your next book in this series will have something to do with the outbreak that is happening in New York!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be with a venom type monster? Well look no further because this is the book for you.

The Plot

Cora does not have a happy marriage. He husband, Oliver, is verbally and mentally abusive as well as being a serial cheater. So when he just up and vanishes one day Cora finally has a few months of peace. Boy is she in for a shock when ‘Oliver’ returns. There was definitely a lot going on in the book, it straddled the line a few times of being a bit too busy but never fully went over. I would much rather have to much than too little going on. It’s fast paced, spicy as heck, and everything you want in a dark monster romance (spicy monster bits included.)

Cora

Okay my favorite thing about Cora is she isn’t ‘good’. Too many fmcs are characterized as the good girls being corrupted by the big bad monster. Cora is not the good guy in this book. She is, according to Vozs, a liar and a deviant and that’s what I love about her. She also just didn’t care. She knew who she was, owned that shit, and went on with her life.

Vozs
Vozs is the kind of man? that every woman would be lucky to have lol. His utter devotion to Cora makes you want to swoon. His obsession of her did get a bit extra in some places but that’s okay he isn’t human and we can’t fault him for that. He just has big feelings (among other things). He’s just so freaking sweet that I really can’t say much else about him.
“If you are to be the death of me, my love, then I cannot wait to die.”

Conclusion
There’s a good mix of plot with the spice that I really appreciate. I love spice but I really like plot mixed in and this is plot driven spice. As mentioned above I do feel that in some places it had a lot going on and it does. It gets just a smidge rushed here and there and it probably could have used 50 or so more pages just to wrap it up nicely and leave you without all these unanswered questions. Overall it’s absolutely enjoyable read that you can read cover to cover without even realizing it.

Good evening, Devotees of Darkness,

Firstly, immense gratitude to Maggie Fern for granting me the pleasure of delving into this captivating piece. Now, let's address the critical matter of trigger warnings – heed them or disregard them, for I am not here to play the role of your mother.

"Welcome Home" unfolds as the second installment in the Horrors and Heartthrobs series. While I haven't ventured into the first book, rest assured it's found its place on my ever-expanding to-be-read list. These novels possess standalone allure, yet for those attuned to Easter eggs, a breadcrumb trail hints at the sequence within the series, sparking anticipation for the next monstrous encounter.

Cora and Oliver (or perhaps Vosz) take center stage in this narrative dance. Without venturing into spoiler territory, Oliver's mysterious disappearance and return six months later leave Cora in a state of shock, her own clandestine truth lingering in the shadows. The transformation in Oliver is palpable – no longer the man he once was, he becomes singularly obsessed with Cora, offering her not only protection but a plethora of intimate moments that warrant the use of an ice pack, if you catch my drift.

Enter Detective Rappert, introducing a discordant note into this symphony of passion. Yet, true love, resilient in the face of all odds, navigates through the tumultuous turns of the plot. Ultimately, Cora and Vosz find their blissful conclusion in the embrace of the Appalachian Mountains. It's a love story that defies convention, a peculiar fusion akin to a cryptic Beauty and the Beast – a tale that I unabashedly bragged about.

And oh, the enigmatic Vosz – can I not help but wish for such a figure in my own life?

Whether to read this book or not rests entirely in your hands. I, for one, relished the experience, finding it a unique journey within the realms of unconventional love.

RATINGS
Overall: 4.4/5
Characters: 4/5
Plot: 4/5
Chemistry: 3/5
Spice: 5/5
Pacing: 4.5/5
Editing: 4/5

MAIN CHARACTERS - Cora & Vosz

SYNOPSIS - Cora hasn't seen her abusive husband in 6 months and is the prime suspect in his disappearance until he returns to set the record straight. The problem is... he shouldn't be able to. Cora is forced to face the monster within herself and whatever is now wearing her husband.

REVIEW -

This was a monster horror romance exactly as described and I wasn't quite ready for it to end but I enjoyed the ride.

WOULD I RECOMMEND - If you don't mind descriptive alien/monstery sex, go for it!

First, I loved her Germaphobe. So I read For the Love of Layla with a truly messed up MMC and dysfunctional of all dysfunctional relationships. Still, I enjoyed it though "Germaphobe" is still my favorite of hers. So I was interested in reading this anthology? series? of stories. All I can say is that it started out strong and then sort of fell apart. It's very OTT which I am ok with because they can be fun but this seemed to be not at the same caliber of writing with the use of wrong words. I think what I'm thinking is homonyms. Because at first I would get confused at the word choice and simply think to myself "what sounds like that word?" Then come up with the right one.

Having said that, I'm actually ok with that. I cut a lot of slack when something isn't proofed as well as it could be because 1) I'm not the one writing and 2) I really just want to be entertained and sometimes made to think.

Ultimately, if you're looking for another "Germaphobe" this isn't really it. If you're looking for monsters and freaky sex with an OTT storyline then go for it. There are worse things to do with your time.

omg I loved this book. I devoured it! It's a quick monster (inspired by venom) novella that is super spicy and still had a plot line that was interesting to read. I loved Vozs and his obsession and possessiveness with Cora who is a woman stuck in a bad marriage and becomes a sort of anti-hero as well through the book. All Vozs cared about was protecting Cora, keeping her safe and making her happy even if it meant just being by her side because how could she ever want to be with the real him so he will take whatever he can get just to be by her side. He was just so sweet I loved him from page 1. The spice was there, and it was hot!!! I totally recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, spicy monster horror novel as it will check all those boxes.

This book is about Cora who is stuck in a bad marriage when all of a sudden, her husband goes missing for months and she is the number one suspect for his disappearance. However, just when she was starting to enjoy the peace, her husband Oliver turns up literally as she is showering giving her the scare of her life. The thing is while this man may be called Oliver, may look and sound like him but she knows for a fact that there is no way this is her husband. So, who is he and what does he want?

“𝕸𝖔𝖓𝖘𝖙𝖊𝖗𝖘? 𝕿𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖊 𝖎𝖘 𝖓𝖔 𝖘𝖚𝖈𝖍 𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖓𝖌.”

If you’re like me and didn’t think you’d be into monster romances, hear me out, read this one. As Cora herself said “𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐞.” Listen, this is no ordinary monster romance. This is a monster OBSESSION romance. Vosz’s obsession with Cora can only be described as that, a very tunnel visioned and dedicated obsession. He would truly move heaven and hell to give her anything she wants, as long as what she wants is him 👀 Even if that involves breaking his generational rules he’s supposed to follow. Oh and he’s beefy, so if you needed any more convincing there it is. Can you resist a beefy 8-foot tall shadow man? Well I can’t, and that’s why I’m writing this review.

“𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐈 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞?”-Vosz

I mean come on that’s CUTE

Overall, this authors writing style is flawless. Her attention to detail, the traumantic backstories her characters have, and the way she really gets you roped into the story all make this another hit in my book.

I received a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are always my own ♥️🖤

I liked the growth of Cora's character as the story progressed. You felt bad for her as the story unraveled about her past with her husband Oliver and how he treated her. She has a secret she didn't know if it would be discovered or if it was one she could keep hidden. The monster that appears in her life had me guessing the entire book on what it could possibly be. A monster that fears Cora will never love him even though he's fully devoted to any need she has. I enjoyed Cora and Vosz's relationship throughout the story. Cora had a hidden monster inside her so she should fit in with a true monster. When the detective showed up at their house snooping around had me not wanting to put the book down to see what she would find. I enjoyed no matter how many times Cora tried to push Vosz away he was still there showing his affection and protection when she needed it. It was funny when Voszs father showed up and inserted himself into their life. I liked that Vosz was able to be his true self around Cora. This was a really good monster romance. This was a good short monster romance story that I would recommend.

Whatever I was expecting, it sure as hell wasn't this. I loved it.

'Welcome Home' follows Cora- whose life seemed perfect, at least on paper. She was married to Oliver Neilson- a disgusting skunk and cheap excuse of a man- who is now missing. Authorities believe that Oliver's constant infidelity was incentive for Cora to have killed him- although they haven't found a body yet. The press airs her relationship's dirty laundry and she is relentlessly brought in by the police for several rounds of questioning.

Imagine her surprise- going back to the home she once shared with her sleaze-bag husband, and finding said husband- someone who has been missing for months (and most people, including herself, believe is dead). Except it isn't her husband. Not at all. He looks like him, but he's nothing like him. And Cora grapples with whether that's to her benefit or detriment.

Can we talk about the spice? My oh my.
Vosz is everything. Cora and him just fit together- metaphorically, and literally of course 😭

Well that was interesting. The only reason I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 was because of the MMCs adoring attitude toward the FMC. I am such a sucker for a sweet and worshipping love interest 😩

Other than all the sweet words though, I wasn’t a fan of several things. The writing style was very amateur and clearly not edited professionally, although it had promise. I thought the base story of this creature taking on the skins and lives of different people was sort of interesting, but I’m really not a fan of horror and gore. There was too much of it for me, and I could NOT relate to the FMC Cora being turned on by killing people. And the descriptions of MMC splitting his skin and taking on the skins of other people? And then the detective and cops trying to figure it all out. Bleh stressful.

I also didn’t find the MMCs true form all that appealing. It was really hard to picture it based on the writing, so my mind couldn’t really settle on anything concrete.

All in all, horror fans might love this type of story. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Cora and Oliver her husband, who was supposed to be missing for the past couple of months shows up out of no where ! He was supposed to be dead! But out of no where appears again ! Cora is speechless 😶 she knows that can’t be her husband, but it looks exactly like her husband and has all the tattoos and everything about him.

Cora had a very toxic relationship with her husband, he cheated and was abusive to her and everyone knew about it. So all the fingers pointed at Cora when he all of a sudden disappeared.
Then he reappeared but now it wasn’t Oliver was it? It was Voz in Oliver’s body. But how could that be?

“[…] grabbing my list of possibilities and proceeds to scratch off doppelgänger. “That only leaves, demon, alien and- he pauses for dramatic effect, Skinwalker. Shall I call the church?”

And let’s just say that he did not f*** like a human 🫣😶😅

This was short and spicy 🌶️ definitely recommend.

The "hero" became obsessed with the heroine after seeing her in memories from her missing husband.

The hero is a skinwalker. It is forbidden to return to the family of someone after you have taken their skin. He fell in love with her after taking the dead husband's memories. He tells the heroine what he is and says he just wants to be around her. He won't force her to do anything. But if she runs he'll kill her, take her skin, and just go around with her memories instead.

So the heroine decides to just ride things out. Of course, they fall in love. He helps her convince everyone her husband is back. And that she didn't kill him.

Her husband was abusive and cheated on her constantly.

She and the hero fall in love (after they both kill a bunch of people). They buy a cottage in the isolated forest so the hero can wear his real shape instead of her dead husband's skin.

Wow! This was so different for me, but I absolutely loved it. Cora is married to her high school "sweetheart," Oliver. Well, he is anything but a sweetheart. He is constantly cheating on her. He is emotionally abusive. And his reason for it is totally twisted. The guy has problems. Thankfully we know that he is not the MMC in this story. That excellent status belongs to Vosz and he is perfect. Yes, he isn't human. Yes, he has done a lot of bad things. But, he loves Cora. And I mean, loves. Ever since he knew of her existence he has been completely obsessed with her. I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say it was so well written. I loved the investigation and their handling of it. I really loved this and I can't wait to see what's next for Callie/Maggie. 😍
