She’s protecting his body and guarding her heart...
Country music star Devin McClain understands there’s a downside to life in the public eye, but the laidback Wyoming cowboy has never imagined he’d attract crazed fans who would do anything to garner his attention. When veiled threats become real, he agrees to hire a discreet security detail. But Devin is shocked when that bodyguard is a hard-bodied woman. He’s even more stunned to be attracted to the steely-eyed stunner.
Former soldier Liberty Masterson’s return to civilian life has been wrought with challenges until she lands a job with a prestigious security firm. But when she agrees to provide personal protection during a cross-country tour, she doesn’t realize she has signed up to masquerade as the playboy star’s girlfriend. Though she’s more comfortable in combat boots than high heels, she has no choice but to appear to be the sexy groupie Devin prefers.
Living in close quarters causes the chemistry between them to ignite, and Devin realizes he wants to turn their charade of a romance into reality. Although Liberty surrenders to his every whim behind closed doors, she fears the sexy country star doesn’t see the real her; and Devin can’t help but worry when the tour ends that there might not be enough between them to build something that won’t fade away...
Again, when I am in the mood for some sexy cowboys, I know Lorelei James will not fail! Who does not love her Rough Riders series? And, this one, for instance? LOL
So, Hillbilly Rockstar is the sixth book in the Blacktop Cowboys series and it tells the story of Devin McClain (a very-hot, very-famous country music star) and Liberty Masterson (a kick-ass former soldier, Harper's sister -the heroine of another book in the series- and now Devin's bodyguard).
“Seriously, Devin. Let me up.” He bent closer. “You’ll really put yourself in the line of fire for me.” “Yes.” Something changed in that instant. The dividing line between her professional responsibilities to him and his personal feelings for her should’ve widened. Instead, Devin felt them erode completely. “Devin—” “Don’t deny you feel it too. There’s no goin’ back for us, Liberty.”
Devin's life is in danger and he does not like having Liberty as his bodyguard (or personal assistant). However, this changes since practically the beginning because, obviously, our two main characters find themselves very atracted to each other. VERY ATRACTED. I loved the mix between music, military and of-the-charts chemistry. These two together, OMG so hot. Just let me tell you, Liberty is not afraid to tell what she wants and Devin loves giving it to her ;)
“I can’t come again. God. You made me come three times already.” He grinned at her. “And isn’t that a helluva nice surprise for me? Because knowing you can come like that?” He planted kisses down her belly. “Sweet”—kiss—“hot”—kiss—“sexy”—kiss—“woman of mine. I’m on a fuckin’ mission to make you come like that every time.” “Devin. Seriously. I can’t.” “You know I’m gonna make you eat them words...” He dropped between her thighs. “Right after I eat you.”
See? *blush* Love Devin LOL Obviously, everything gets more complicated when they start feeling stronger sentiments for each other. Liberty is afraid of what she feels and does not know what to do with it. We have some suspense moments and even scary moments so.. I'll tell this book has a quite good plot and an easy story to follow. Of course, with a happy ending (which I love!!).
“You’re the only woman I want. You’re the only fucking woman I see whether we’re in a room with a thousand people or when we’re alone.”
So, my rating is 4.5 STARS because, as always, Lorelei does not disappoint. She gives us a beautiful love story, with plenty of hot moments, sweet moments with other characters and even suspenseful moments. Still, not my favourite book of hers but I enjoyed it a lot! If you enjoy western romance and Lorelei's style, I am sure you'll like this! :)
I liked this book. A good romance that is allowed to grow. Our hero is a famous country singer who is under attack by hate groups because of a song he wrote that promoted love in all it’s forms. So his record label wants to hire a security firm. Enter our heroine. Former military she is a force to be reckoned with. Since our heroine was not dressed like Jessica Simpson he tells her to change her look so she can blend in. (Yep, he went there) So when the story begins he comes across as a jerk and a player. But soon he cleans up his act and romance ensues. Good romance with strong characters. 😊
1. He had sex with his groupies AFTER finding heroine attractive. (sex with groupies is his coping mechanism. *gag*) 2. Heroine sits outside his bus while hearing him fucking OW, that didn't stop him, what DID stop him was heroine enjoying a chat with another man. *cue gagworthy double standards* 3. Oh hey! Author so kindly informs us that the hero ONLY gets BJs or HJs with his groupies, he strictly keeps his talented penis out of groupie vaginas, cause he can do better (heroine should just melt at the respect), like this information is supposed to redeem him in some ways? ARE. YOU. FUCKING. KIDDING. ME?? 4. This book was heavy on sexual scenes, so am I an ass to make assumptions that the author is at least 18 years of age and knows SOMETHING regarding sex and STIs??????? MCs have unprotected sex, cue frustration! However, for ONCE heroine acts like a mature experienced adult and calls hero out saying birth control isn't the only purpose of a condom, it prevents STIs! Hero gets offended.....now let's back down a minute....
HE. GETS. OFFENDED. because how dare heroine think of STIs at post coital bliss even though she personally saw AND heard his revolving doors of groupies. And how dare she questions him, when he lets her in the holly secret that he didn't ACTUALLY fuck them!!!! A) are you stupid AND delusional and B) this adult author, who's writing a book about sex, is she actually seriously claiming vaginal penetration is the ONLY way to contract STIs?????
HERO. GETS. OFFENDED!!! he then magnanimously offers the proof of clean bill of health which was done BEFORE the tour started, and fucked at LEAST THREE groupies after!
Heroine is dumb too! yes, she SHOULD have checked that proof, BEFORE he bit her lips off, at their first kiss, NOT before or after they started fucking like rabbits! and definitely not only when they had unprotected sex! STIs are NOT spread ONLY via vaginal sex. The cut she had could have very easily infected by hero, who was NOT abstinent!
Who hasn’t dreamed of catching the eye of a heartthrob singing star? Well, Devin McClain is every country music lover’s dream man, and he’s in danger. Whether it’s from the “super” fans who basically stalk his every move, a jilted lover, or a jealous husband, no one knows. But management demands extra security measures be taken after a crew member is brutally attacked.
Liberty Masterson is a former soldier, trained in elite personal security. She’s signed on to keep Devin safe posing as his personal assistant/girlfriend on their four month long tour. While Liberty may not like the egotistical jerk, she’s more than up for the challenge of guarding him. Even if that means trading in her no nonsense style and combat boots for a look more suited to one of his groupies. What she hadn’t planned on was falling for the soulful man behind the star, and Liberty feels she’s on the road to heartbreak. How could she ever be enough for a man used to having women at his beck and call? Can the highs they experience together on the road translate into something permanent?
Devin never realized when he set out to make music there would be so much trouble from being in the public eye. He’s upset with the added security measures, and his ego’s a little bruised knowing his protection is being handled by a woman. Things get off to a very bad start when Devin opens his mouth and lets the insults fly. He regrets every rude word when he realizes what an amazing woman Liberty is. Simmering attraction and close quarters make it impossible to resist her, and he doesn’t want to. Can he convince her what they share goes way beyond a temporary fling?
I was expecting a fun, sexy romance and was excited because I LOVE me a sexy cowboy as the lead! Giddy up, baby! But with Hillbilly Rockstar you get more. At the heart of this story were two strong, guarded people opening their hearts, and baring souls. They come to rely heavily on each other and soon Devin and Liberty’s friendship turns into an all-consuming romance. These two have combustible chemistry which leads to sexy-times that will light your fires! Devin was thoroughly HOT, bossy, and kinky behind closed doors, and Liberty was willing to put her pleasure in his hands. Oh my, Lorelei James knows how to write some sizzling scenes!
Navigating their romance while dodging danger and dealing with threats gets tricky and tempers flare, but for the most part they deal with the outside pressures maturely. That was no easy feat because Devin’s life certainly attracted the crazies! As far as the mystery goes, I kept trying to figure out who was responsible for all the trouble, and was quite surprised when it all came to light. I suspected someone else entirely!
Lorelei James masterfully combined romance, mystery and suspense in Hillbilly Rockstar making this one addictive read! I haven’t read the other books in The Blacktop Cowboys series, and it wasn’t necessary to enjoy this installment, but you can bet I’ll be getting to them soon after enjoying this story thoroughly! A copy was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I think this is probably gonna be one of my top five favs from Lorelei….She completely outdid herself with this one and knocked the ball out of the park!
I loved both Devin & Liberty, I can imagine how he drooled watching her in action and she drooled every time he looked at her and opened his mouth to talk or sing….Even I was starting to drool by the time I got half way through ;). Ok he was a bit of a manwhore to start with but I always expected that as he is a singing superstar and has fans throwing themselves at him left, right and centre, but once he got to know and ‘see’ Liberty he only wanted one woman and was determined she would be his.
Can Lorelei James write a bad book? I don't think so!
Hillbilly Rockstar is another winner is this hot, exciting series. I actually think this series may turn out to be better than her awesome Rough Riders series, if things keep going this way.
So, this one is about country music star Devin McClain. Devin's a Wyoming native, and has shown up in some previous books since he's friends with some of the heroes or heroines (don't ask who, but I think one may be Tanna from Turn and Burn). Anyhow, when Devin has some threats made against him, his record company and tour promoter insist that he hire more security. Devin doesn't like the idea of having some beefy bodyguards around 24/7, he needs his privacy, but settles for a suggestion that the security company makes: having a tough as nails female bodyguard, who will pretend to be his personal assistant.
Tough-talkin' former soldier Liberty Masterson, 35, (older sister of Harper from Saddled and Spurred) has recently returned to civilian life, and has hired on with a prestigious Denver security company run by Tanna's brother Garrett. Her first assignment to providing personal protection for Devin McClain. Devin acts like a jerk when he meets her, questioning her femininity and doubting that anyone would think he'd hire someone so butch as his assistant. So naturally, Liberty is insulted (and irked that she's attracted to him) but gets some help in the hair/makeup and clothing department from her beauty queen sister Harper. She'll show him! So when she shows up for her assignment, naturally she's a knockout and Devin's tongue is hanging out...and he wants her.
Liberty and Devin in Galveston...
Yep, these two have some sparks big time. They snipe at each other but get along. Devin continues to be a manwhore on tour, which ticks off Liberty, because she's wildly attracted to him. But should she act on it? Wouldn't that be...unprofessional?
You can guess what happens next...sexual tension builds and builds, until these two crack under the pressure, and go at it. And boy do they connect. They are great in the sack together, but when Devin starts to have real feelings for Liberty, he worries that she will get hurt protecting him. And they start to have conflicts about Liberty's job. Will Devin let Liberty do her job and take the threats against him seriously, or will his growing love for her get in the way? And will Liberty admit that Devin is more to her than a fling, and tell him how she feels? can there be a future for these two?
Loved this story! It had just about everything in it (interesting plot, sexual tension, hot bedroom action, a touch of suspense, and lots of nice details to keep the story going). I liked both characters and thought I understood them. I loved how they opened up to each other, revealing things that they had never told anyone before. They were sooo good together, but they needed a little nudge to realize they were meant for each other! Loved the ending.:)
Fans of this series should enjoy this one. And if you haven't tried this series yet, I urge you to get on board. The first book Corralled wasn't a favorite of mine, but after that one, they all rocked! 4 1/2 stars
*Warning: This book contains explicit sex, including oral (and off the pages anal), dirty talkin', and mild violence. Not for the faint of heart.
3.5 Love thia author's style of smut. The story seemed a little slow at times, but it was sweet and romantic with a little peril thrown in so I enjoyed it.
Lorelei James has done it YET again! With a much different feel to this story than the rest of the series, I fell in love with Devin from the start. He’s a country music superstar. While on tour, he starts getting some threats and when things become a bit too dangerous, a professional has to be called in to protect him.
That professional turns out to be Liberty. Much to Devin’s surprise, a woman. But with her military background, she’s just the girl for the job and can go on tour under the disguise of being his personal assistant. Things start off a bit on rocky ground with them and Devin’s attitude doesn’t help matters while the tour begins.
I love a cocky, but deep down genuinely good guy. Devin has that going for him in spades. Even though he has the rock star reputation, and lives up to some of the hype, he’s looking for something more meaningful. He’s just the type of hero I adore falling in love with!
Then there’s Liberty. I like the darker heroines, with a tough background. Liberty is totally kick ass in that sense. But I also enjoyed seeing the more feminine side of her in this book. Key is always to find the right balance for that kick ass woman to become soft enough and Ms. James did a wonderful job with Liberty. She doesn’t need to change for her man, but she does soften and open up.
This is just the type of sexy and at the same time feel good story I love to get lost in. It’s extremely hot, I mean, come on we are talking about Lorelei James here! Their chemistry left me hungry for more. But that feeling of family and friendship is there, even when we are in the periphery. The developing relationship between Devin and Liberty left me happy and content and again wanting and craving for the next book.
“You know how wired I am after I walk offstage. For the past three weeks, since I’ve just said no to groupies” – he [Devin] bestowed that megawatt smile – “I’ve been punishing myself, takin’ cold showers or doin’ sit-ups and push-ups until I wanna puke. But tonight – and every night from here on out – no more punishment. I’m gonna get what I want.”
“Which is what?”
“You. In every dirty, raunchy scenario I’ve fantasized about.”
Singer Devin McClain has had a few scary encounters and with a new tour coming up, he’s being forced into having tighter security, including a personal bodyguard. He’s not thrilled to say the least, he likes his private time and that includes being alone on his own tour bus. But the people behind the money backing the tour won’t take no for an answer and Devin’s new bodyguard is Liberty, a veteran who’s working security now and taking on her first big assignment with Devin. The only problem (ok, one of many problems) is Devin wants his security to blend in and Liberty is as far from looking and acting like one of Devin’s groupies as you can get. After a quick makeover, she fits in well at his side, but Devin wants her closer than that.
I ended up really enjoying both Liberty and Devin. For Liberty, sure she did her makeover to fit in more with Devin’s camp, but she never changed who she was deep down. She’s a solider and she takes her bodyguard position very seriously and above all else her number one priority was Devin safe. It was a great switch, seeing this tough heroine be willing to step in front of Devin when threats come at him. But there’s never a doubt she can handle anything thrown at her. Where she did change a little was emotionally. She lets herself be vulnerable to Devin, but only in the bedroom and he wears her down in the best and sexiest way possible. She’s up for anything, and so is he – sexy!!
Devin is a sweet guy who, even though he knows he’s lucky to have the life he does, longs for a home and quiet and someone to go home to – things he never really thought hard about making a reality until Liberty. I really enjoyed seeing the musical side to Devin come out, there are some fun scenes that take place during his shows and it lends a little different feel than the previous books. Sure Devin is still country, but it was nice to have the story take place in a location other than a ranch or small town.
There’s something about James’s writing that pulls me in so easily and Hillbilly Rockstar was no exception. From the start, the characters were engaging and I found myself caring right away about them and where things were going. I love that. I love anytime a book can hook me in quick and I felt that here.
The relationship between Devin and Liberty is sweet and their romance is just hot. They’re able to open up with each other in ways they haven’t before. Devin has a hard time letting people get close since most of them just see Devin, country singer superstar. But to Liberty, he’s just Devin and he loves that. Liberty also helps him find his way back to his family, after a tragic loss years ago drove a wedge between him and his parents and sister. It was smaller moments like that that added great layers to the story and made it about more than just Liberty and Devin getting together.
Hillbilly Rockstar was very enjoyable, I was quickly caught up in the story and while it was super easy to fall in love with the sexy singer Devin McClain, I fell just as hard for Liberty – a tough kickass heroine who was the perfect match for Devin.
This was my first book by Lorelei James and I just added the rest of this series to my TBR and one clicked away. I really enjoyed this book. Not only is it a sexy, steamy read but it gives just enough of a pull on your heartstrings - not to snap. <3
Devin McClain is country music's bad boy. He could careless what people think about him, his music or the people he hangs around. Even when things start to get a little out of hand with his security, this laid back Wyoming cowboy would rather just take the chance of getting hurt then adding security details around him all the time.
Liberty Masterson is fresh out of the military, working for a friend of her sister's, working private security. So when she is approached about being the bodyguard of Devin's, she wasn't too thrilled. The big paycheck and the opportunity to prove herself wins over and she takes off on the road with Devin and his band.
The only problem is that no one can know she is his bodyguard. They have to play it off as her being his personal assistant and girlfriend.
The sexual tension between these two is high and so it doesn't take too long for their status to move into the more personal realm. Both have pasts that have hurt them, but as their trust grows so does their ability to think straight. Four and half stars!
Favorite Quote: “Are you sure I can’t talk you into takin’ an admin position when your probationary period is up?” “Do I still get to Taser people from behind a desk?” “No.” “Then no way.”
Devin McClain is a mega star in the country music business. Gorgeous and popular, he has more than his fair share of exuberant fans. When it looks like one fan maybe taking things too far by attacking a crew member on Devin’s tour bus, Devin’s record company demands stricter security measures, starting with a personal bodyguard for Devin.
Liberty Masterson’s return to civilian life after a stint in the military has been a rocky road until she lands a job with a prestigious security company. When her boss assigns her to play babysitter for a country music star, she doesn’t figure on having to pretend to be the playboy’s flavor of the month. But Liberty is a professional and will do whatever is necessary to keep her client alive and well till the end of his tour.
Close quarters spark some combustible chemistry between Liberty and Devin and soon Devin wants to make this pretend romance a reality. But while Liberty is willing to fully submit to Devin behind closed doors, she isn’t sure their relationship can withstand the demands of Devin’s famous lifestyle.
Lorelei James’s Blacktop Cowboys series has always been a favorite of mine. Her characters are imbibed with so much spirit and personality that they are indeed larger than life. Bold self-assured independent women and flirtatious sexy alpha cowboys has the pages smoking as you follow their rock strewn path to love. Plenty of humor and sex makes these erotic romances a joy to read. Flavorful dialogue keeps the story flowing along at a steady pace. Multiple plot lines are revealed simultaneously, merging together to provide a well won ending for our lovers.
Liberty and Devin have been seen throughout the series and I was thrilled to not only see they would be getting a book, but would be paired together. Opposites attract is a winning trope for me and Liberty and Devin couldn’t be more opposite…or so you think. James does a fabulous job of setting up our hero and heroine, revealing their personalities and their back stories, taking a considerable amount of time letting us get to know them and see the extreme differences between them. Cut throat misconceptions set the stage for a prickly beginning but as the story progresses, James slowly cuts through the artifice and we begin to see that our protagonists are indeed perfect for one another.
Holy mother of God. It was a miracle he managed to keep from drooling. Or cursing at the sky because the fucking universe had a sick sense of humor. Or maybe this was Karma beating you with the stupid stick for boldly proclaiming that you didn’t find Liberty Masterson attractive.
***
“Do I need to make it clear to Devin again why I am here?” “Maybe. I don’t know. He’s in one of them moods where——” “He needs naked fan adulation to help him through his rough day?”
Devin and Liberty are on fire. Heavy steamy chemistry will keep you enthralled as our couple takes their relationship from professional to personal. A strong sexual connection develops between them, allowing them both to push aside their differences and focus on each other. One constant I like about James’s writing is she celebrates her characters sexuality. No slut shaming or embarrassment for their wants and desires. In a world where we seem to be heading towards a Puritan state of mind, it’s always refreshing to see two adults engage in a sexual relationship that isn’t forced, coerced, or used as a cure for some previous trauma. The physical scenes are very well done with explicit detailing and a heavy dose of erotic fun and romance.
“Make me feel it.” “Feel what?” “That first thrust. Don’t be sweet. Don’t go slow. Slam into me so hard I feel this big cock of yours in the back of my throat. So I always remember this moment.”
The main conflict is a mixture of past and present, building a solid storyline. James addresses issues and creates an engaging read that fills you with strong emotions as you watch Liberty and Devin work to build a time sustaining relationship that will last past the tour. James writes with such intimacy that we are instantly drawn into their lives. Multiple subplots intertwined with the romance. Emotions run the gauntlet as old wounds are reopened and allowed to heal.
Dynamic secondary characters add even more flavor and depth to the story as we get a behind the scenes look at what is all involved in touring with a major music star. Subplots involving family and friends show a prime need for communication. Getting involved with the other band members and roadies shows us this lifestyle isn’t for the faint of heart. I enjoyed seeing old faces from previous books and see what they have been up to.
I did feel the main conflict wasn’t as developed as it could have been and was overwhelmed by the romance. Plus, while I enjoyed the slow ride of Liberty and Devin’s romance, at times Liberty’s stubbornness became a hindrance. Regardless, this series continues to entertain and I recommend it to everyone who wants an erotic romantic contemporary series with realistic characters, emotional romances, strong friendships, and interesting lives that will keep you waiting for each installment. Even though each book in the series can be read as a standalone; some characters and situations bleed over.
This book was just ok for me. I had a hard time buying into Liberty and Devin as a couple. For most of the book they didn't care for each other and both had a big chip on their shoulder. I also had a hard time believing that Liberty would be interested in Devin after watching the parade of groupies that walked into his dressing room where she had to stand outside to guard. The one thing that I did like about them was that they were able to talk about things with each other that they didn't with anyone else. Even with my issues with the book I did like how it ended, both of them got what they wanted.
I've really enjoyed reading the books in Lorelei James' Blacktop Cowboys series and Hillbilly Rockstar is no exception. I also like how even though characters from previous stories are woven into the story, it's either done as a way that to move the story along or it's for emotional support to help the characters reach some kind of realization or an ah-ha moment.
As the synopsis of this book states, Devin, a country music star, is having issues with potential threats towards him and needing protection. That form of protection is Libby, a former soldier. They share mutual friends back in Devin's hometown, although none of know that she becomes Devin's bodyguard.
What I like about this story is first the respect given to the their initial roles in the book and that was of bodyguard and the one being guarded. There was a spark of attraction from both sides, but it wasn't as if they were going at it that same night.
In fact, Devin threw a bit of insult saying that Libby would not be the kind of woman that he would be seen with. By the way, the plan was for her to pose as his Personal Assistant slash lover, so that there wouldn't be an issue staying with him on his tour bus. Libby took that as a challenge and in their second meeting changed her look entirely, which ramped up Devin's attraction to the nth degree.
As the tour started and progressed, that attraction grew, but I liked that they continued to hold off from doing anything about it to the point that Devin even continued to have sex with groupies (albeit only hands and mouth). I wasn't actually bothered by this, although it might bother some readers. They weren't in any kind of exclusive relationship and these encounters did help the story.
First, while physically gratifying to Devin, it didn't feed any of Devin's emotional needs. Second, it made Libby feel jealous and made her realize that she may not be as unaffected as she thought when it came to Devin.
Then a couple of things happened that brought them closer together and they really started connecting emotionally. Eventually, it lead to them finally sleeping together. By the way, props to Libby because after this happened, she did the right thing by informing her boss, giving him the option to pull her off the job, which he didn't.
Along with the emotional connection, came the growth and depth of trust between Devin and Libby. The trust really deepened when Libby saved Devin from an attacker. That's when Devin really knew that he could trust her with his life because he was important to her. That's when Libby really knew that Devin accepted and had faith that she would do whatever it took to make sure he was safe because she cared so much about him.
Then something big happened while Devin and Libby were having some alone time, which caused Libby to doubt herself, to doubt that she'd be able to protect Devin. These insecurities are tied to guilt that she felt for not "saving" two people she cared about when she was in the military, although both instances were beyond her control. Guilt equals walls and Libby definitely put those up.
But by this time, those bonds were strong and though Devin had to first figure things out, he eventually pulled those walls down and got them to a better place. And when Libby ended things with him for reasons that she mentioned to Devin, Devin eventually was a strong enough man to not let her go.
Wow, this book packed a huge punch. Hillbilly Rockstar gives us great characters, a fantastic story line and all kinds of sizzling hotness.
Devin is doing exactly what he wants with his life and he makes no apologies for it. He's a country rock star that gets to play his music for adoring fans, traveling to a different city every night and any woman he wants with nothing more than a word to his crew. He's happy and sees no reason to change anything. But, the safety threats are becoming more and more real and Devin's manager has had enough of the lax protection.
Liberty is the best character. Loved her! She's all kinds of bad*ss wrapped in a confident, not afraid to show her feminine side woman. Too many authors go overboard when writing a strong female character and make her hard and abrasive. No man wants that. Liberty was a perfect balance.
I loved so much about this book. Devin had a tendency to let his butthole side show, but never failed to admit he was wrong and make amends. The dialogue was fantastic. Just the way the spoke to each other was so real and honest. Liberty was a soldier turned body guard and she rocked it. I loved that she didn't hesitate to say that was my fault and it won't happen again. Each of them had their own demons to overcome. They supported each other but also gave the other space to deal with things as they needed to. Definitely a good read! Lorelei James has a true gift.
Decent good read with steamy sexy scenes. Likeable heroine and hero. Suspenseful plot, interesting dialogue. Intriguing characters and an appropriate amount of mystery thrown in.
An enjoyable read that although cliche at moments (ie, the part where Liberty sings at the concert as back-up singer), the book still deserve 4 stars.
I really liked the romance in this steamy story. They developed an emotional attachment before jumping into bed. Then when relationship problems came up and tempers cooled, they worked it out and each of them was able to apologize if warranted. And it had a decent plot too. Ex-army Liberty agrees to be a bodyguard for country singer star Devin.
Book 6 in Blacktop Cowboy series in Lorelei James Devin is a country music star that has finally been given a headlining tour but when bad things start happening the music company hires a bodyguard to protect there star. Liberty is a Vet and personal bodyguard that is hired by the music company to protect Devin even though there first meeting he insults her appearance saying she’ll need a makeover. I absolutely loved the chemistry between Devin and Liberty but especially because she’s a total badass that Devin embraces after realising it doesn’t make him weak to be protected by a women. Love LJ cowboys series especially Rough Riders

This review is for book six in the Blacktop Cowboys series. This series of books feature various friends from Wyoming who each are making a life for themselves but along the way may need just a little help. These rough tough cowboys are hot and sexy and always guaranteed to give readers a wild ride!
Devin McClain has finally hit the big time and this country boy is truly riding the wave of success but success always has a price! Devin has always had to contend with fanatical followers and his life is never truly private but when one of his crew gets hurt it's time to beef up the security. Devins not keen on having a bodyguard twenty four seven but when both his agent and record label insist he reluctantly agrees. What he hadn't expected though was for a ballsy ex soldier with more curves than a Porsche to be his new round the clock minder! Thrust together on his tour bus Devins finally met his match.
Liberty Masterson is a former soldier working in the security business. Being offered the job of four months on the road with one of the hottest tickets in country music should be straight forward but with Devin nothing's as it seems. First Liberty has to look the part and then she has to pretend to be his latest floozie! This cowboy may be hot but he's not going to turn Liberty's head, is he? As they increasingly spend time together Liberty sees an unexpected side to Devin and she likes it, oh boy does she like it! Devins sexy and has an appetite that just might see him quenching a fire that's raging inside Liberty but there's a reason he needs protection and Liberty can't risk losing her focus. The rocking distraction he poses is the least of her worries though as when the tour is over then she just might leave her heart behind. I love the sexy cowboy books that this author writes and even though this book is not set in a rural landscape we still get treated to a whole lot of western style loving! This story is rife with so much lust and passion that I'm surprised my kindle didn't start to melt! This is such a hot couple but they are perfectly matched. It doesn't matter how in charge Liberty may be in her work when it comes to the bedroom Devin takes matters ( and other things!) into his own hands! It's a tough journey for these two characters though as Liberty doesn't see a place for herself long term in Devins world . She's a woman who knows what she wants and her career is important to her. A life at a mans beck and call is not for her but what else could Devin offer?
Devin is quite guarded emotionally, and indeed he's had really bad experiences in the past but his journey with Liberty is filled with heart. I was so busy being engulfed by the white hot passion between these two that I hadn't expected the author to cause me to tear up with just a few sentences during a beach scene. No spoilers here, but to go from erotic scenes to pure emotion so easily is an amazing talent and I applaud Ms James for such a fantastic piece of writing.
I've never read a book about musicians on the road before and I was immensely impressed with just how realistic this story felt and I could almost imagine that I was on tour with these amazing characters!
This series has certainly hit it's stride and each book has a unique feel . I think they are all easily read as standalone's but it would be a crying shame to miss out on all the goodness that the Blacktop Cowboys offer!
Filled with lots of hot sex (maybe not for the faint of heart) but if you are broad minded and want a story that will pull you in then this book delivers, big time!
