Johanna Helen Howard was born on March 10, 1952 in Germany, where her father, Edwin Dennis Howard, a soldier in the U.S. Army was stationed. The family moved about a great deal when she was young. Her father always dreamed of retiring to Hawaii, and after he passed away in 1964 Johanna and her mother settled there to honor him.

In 1970, when she was still in school, she married Ralph Lindsey, becoming a young housewife. The marriage had three children; Alfred, Joseph and Garret, who already have made her a grandmother. After her husband's death, Johanna moved to Maine, New England, to stay near her family.

Johanna Lindsey wrote her first book, Captive Bride in 1977 "on a whim", and the book was a success. By 2006, with over 58 Million copies of her books have been sold worldwide, with translations appearing in 12 languages, Johanna Lindsey is one of the world's most popular authors of historical romance.

Johanna's books span the various eras of history, including books set in the Middle Ages, the American "Old West" and the popular Regency England-Scotland. She has even written a few sci-fi romances. By far the most popular among her books are the stories about the Malory-Anderson Family, a Regency England saga.

Johanna Lindsey died on Oct. 27, 2019 in Nashua, N.H. She was 67.

3.5 stars. Love Johanna Lyndsey stories as she was one of the first to make me fall in love with romance. This story gave me the special mix she usually delivers but I felt it didn't give the MCs, Nathan and Judith, enough time together with meaningful interactions by which to grow their love. This was largely the basis for my rating. Their individual personalities were fleshed out well. The few interactions they had were sweet, especially when at the outlook post. The plot was good with action and adventure to really grip your attention. There was a part where Nathan acts like a jerk but I can see where he was resenting Judith for her misguided actions. I was very happy to catch up with the Mallorys and the Andersons. The threads were also weaved well for Jack's story. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing. h was a V. No rape/abuse.

OMG!!!!

There's another book of the Malory-Anderson Family Series. I have been waiting for years for a book about Anthony and James' daughters and we finally have it. I mean we have Judith's story.

Although I feel sad because their older already. It seems just like yesterday I was reading the first 10 books of the series and now it's their children's story.

Despite that, I'm looking forward to all future Malory-Anderson Family books.

Counting the days till June 10 2014.

After the disappointment of the last several Johanna Lindsey books, I was very hesitant to read this one, despite it being about my favorite family series ever. Even the last three Malory novels were not that great, which almost made me think that perhaps Johanna Lindsey wasn’t writing them, and had employed a ghost writer instead.

I’m delighted to admit I might be wrong. Stormy Persuasion reminded me why I fell in love with the Malory family and why I’ve been reading Johanna Lindsey novels since I was in the 8th grade. Is it as good as the first Malory novels? No. But it’s way better than anything she’s published in the past 10 years or so, and definitely worth the purchase price.

I love how different the personalities of Jack (Jacqueline) and Judith are. Jack is exactly like James, bold, brash, and says exactly what’s on her mind, and definitely the leader of the two. She wears breeches and goes barefoot on board the ship, fences, and probably can sail the ship just as good as her father and uncles can. Judith is much more feminine, preferring to wear dresses even as she admits their impracticality aboard a ship, and she’s definitely the optimist of the two, preferring to think the best out of everyone. Judith tempers her cousin’s rash behavior, and tries to get Jack to think before she speaks or acts.

Nathan is a likeable hero. He’s been dealt a bad hand in life—his father was a smuggler and died when Nathan was in his early twenties, just after the two had a falling out. Nathan’s sister has also recently died, and he is now the guardian of her two young daughters. And of course he’s managed to have his father’s smuggling ship, The Pearl, stolen by the man who killed him, another smuggler who happens to be the regency era version of a black market car dealer. He steals British ships, refits them and resells them in America as new or “gently used.” Right after Judith meets Nathan, he gets captured and is cut a deal by the British military—expose the man behind the ship stealing and he will be granted a full pardon for smuggling. Nathan needs to get to the U.S to capture the criminal—who fortunately runs the operation from Connecticut, and as luck has it, Judith’s uncle James’ ship is headed there in a few days.

Nathan and Judith have some pretty good chemistry together. They’ve already met twice before being aboard The Maiden George (James’ ship) and she correctly suspects him of being a smuggler. He’s fighting his attraction for Judith, and has to keep away from her father, who he may have actually knocked out in a tavern brawl the night before the ship left for Connecticut. James remembers Nathan from the fight, but of course seeing Tony get taken down endears Nathan to James. Nathan works as the ship’s carpenter, and there are several opportunities for Judith and Nathan to meet up privately throughout the voyage.

The only real annoyances with the book are Catherine and her brother Count Andrassy, who I really can’t go into too much detail without spoilers. I guess I’m irritated that they take up more pages than I think they should have, although they seem to play a big role in what will be Jack’s book.

Which is another point on why Stormy Persuasion was worth the read: it definitely harkens back to the earlier Malory novel formulas: just like James and Georgina’s story begins during Tony and Roslynn’s, it looks like the events in Jack’s book will take place during Judith’s and Nathan’s. And Jack’s story looks to be quite a doozy—we don’t know his name, but she keeps calling him “The Bastard.” LOVE her!

As my favorite Malory is and always will be James, I am delighted to say that he is just as awesome as ever. Tony too, but surprisingly we don’t get as much of him as I would have thought, since this is his daughter’s story. Tony does have some great moments in here though, so I wasn’t too disappointed.

So Malory fans, don’t fear! This book is well worth the wait and I’m hoping the next one will be just as delightful to read.

MINI REVIEW:

"Stormy Persuasion" blew like a hurricane.

This dull entry into Johanna Lindsey's Malory series is about Judith, Anthony & Rosalyn's boring daughter. She's paired with an equally uninteresting hero, Nathan something-or-other. At least the hero likes cats, that's why I rated this 1 1/2 stars, not just 1. I'm not even interested in rehashing the plot. Lots of readers loved this, as it averages over a 4-star rating on Goodreads. I think most who enjoyed it like "New" Johanna Lindsey books, while I am an old-school girl.

A vulgar allegory:

Reading this romance is like if you get really drunk, desperate & horny, give an old flame a booty call, & halfway through the tryst, realize the sex is awful, he smells weird, and you're not going to climax.

Still, you go at it, faking any pleasure, & look at the clock to see if you can make a quick exit. But it's late and you'd have to take a cab, so why not stay the night and get a donut for breakfast? It's not the worst night you've spent in your life.

It's far from the best, however, and you realize what you enjoyed in the past exists only in the past. You've changed, he's changed. It's over. Enjoy the pleasant memories, but it's time to move on.

I haven't read an historic romance in a few years. before I discovered contemporary romance, historical was all I read. I loved it but I must say it has since changed for me. I found this book extremely long and at times boring. you need to read quite a few chapters before anything happens in this book.

This book is about the younger generation. Anthony and James daughters
The romance is Judith’s. She meets up with Nathan , while travelling to America with Jaqueline and other members of the family. Lot happening in this story too keep your interest.
Another good Malory adventure.

This book suffers greatly from being in the Malory series. Way, way too much of the focus is on the rest of the family so that Judith and Nathan are relegated to boring secondary characters in their own story. In the beginning, tons of time is spent introducing all the family members to the reader, far too many characters for anyone new to the series to even have a hope of remembering. All throughout the book Jacqueline, James and Anthony get almost as much screen time as our happy couple. And in the climax of the story Judy and Nathan are totally uninvolved tagalongs who watch the action from the sidelines while everyone else does the interesting stuff. Wow. So, all in all, Judy got a raw deal with her book.

THE. MALLORYS. ARE. BACK!!!

In her 11th Mallory Series Novel, author Joanna Lindsey reclaims her status as one of the top romance writers. I will admit I haven't been thrilled with her past few books., even when they were Mallory stories. But Stormy Persuasion brings back the days of James and the High Seas. Plenty of family interaction but not necessarily all of them. They didn't work with the story and fortunately for us, Ms. Lindsey left them out.

Stormy Persuasion is the next generation. Sure some of the past few books were about the older cousins but they fit in with more with the Uncles... But Stormy is about Judith Mallory, first daughter to Anthony and Roslyn (My personal favorite.. I admit it, Anthony STILL makes me swoon).

Jack and Judith have been best friends since birth, where one went, the other went. So when Jack has to go to America for her come out.. Judith insists on going as well. Plotting and finagling like the best of them, they get their way. But a trip across the ocean is never smooth sailing. While the rest of the family is mostly interacting with each other and a mysterious new cousin, Judith is falling in love with a captain turned deck hand. Intrigued by a face she has seen before, knowing he is the "ghost" of her childhood fantasies, Judith is slowly swayed and finds herself tumbling into love.

Nathan Tremayne is a man on a mission, having been captured while smuggling, he was offered a chance for redemption. Find the people who have been stealing English Ships (his included) and end their reign. He needs a fast trip to America, where the culprits live, so he takes a job as a carpenter on the Mallory ship sailing close to where he needs to be. He can not believe it when he is recognized by one of the family members. His only course of actions is deny, deny, deny. When that doesn't work he is at a loss.. It doesn't help that he finds himself falling under Judy's spell. But when someone steals all the family jewels and the evidence is found in his room, all chances of redemption seem to be lost.

Judy and Nathan haven't reached the point where they can trust in each other and a budding romance comes crashing down.

It gets worse when Jack is kidnapped and the Mallorys find themselves in a position that they must rely on a somewhat redeemed Nathan for help. The High Seas is never quite the place to question someone's loyalties but over time with a common goal they learn to lean on each other. And Judy and Nathan begin repatching their trust.

A Fun, Fun read..

Now for my criticism, it's actually my pet peeve with Johanna Lindsey and the Mallorys. Whenever we remeet a character she has to give a synopsis on who they are, where they fall in the family and what their background is. It's tedious and distracts from the story. This is not a new thing she has done it from the very beginning. But people, this is the 11th book.. so we get paragraphs and pages of supliferous information. It distracts from the story and has me pulling my hair out.

Overall it's not the best Mallory story but it sings.. has a fluidity that has been missing lately and tells a story about a character we have watched grow up, literally.

I am hoping, Jack's Story Next.

"Stormy Persuasion" is another addition in the Mallory/Anderson series..and is supposed to be Nathan and Judith's book.
Nathan is a sea pirate/smuggler who is forced to take refuge in "The Maiden George" with the Mallory clan when his ship "The Pearl" is stolen.
It's there he comes across Judith, Anthony and Roslynn's daughter, who he's come in touch with in the past under dire circumstances. Their chance hidden meetings in the presence of the family cause them to give into their passions..and fall for each other?
My main issue with this book was it focused on everyone but the couple, and that it seemed like a tribute to "Gentle Rogue" at times (which I wouldn't have minded if the main couple had an ounce of chemistry that James and George had).
It starts out as friendship between Judith and Jack being the main story, but slowly deviates to the family being on ship, thieves, smugglers, and occasional interludes between the couple.
At times I questioned even if I was reading a JL! I always trust her for giving me hot, passionate love stories- but this was a miss for me.
I loved seeing my favorite characters again but this disappointed me.

I definitely missed the Malorys!!! :)

And it was delight to read about them again. This book serves as a sort of reboot in a series, where it definitely shows that the upcoming books will be about the second generation Malorys.

Unfortunately, I found it tiring, messy and the plot was a bit loose. There were so many characters in the first few chapters that honestly, I was confused who is who. I guess, it was supposed to re introduce us to the characters we loved but mentioning almost all of them was pretty overwhelming that it distracted us from Judy and Nathan.

In the end, the characters of Nathan and Judy lacked the usual thorough back story for us to relate to them.

Although I loved their connection and chemistry.

All in all it wasn't a bad read, I think before reading this book, you have to read the previous books.

***************************
Review I Liked:Fun return to the Malory family. Reformed rakes James and Anthony Malory must now face the fact that their daughters are old enough to be looking for husbands. Keeping an unwilling promise to his brothers-in-law, James is taking his daughter Jacqueline (Jack) to America for her come-out. Jack and her cousin Judith are best friends and Jack refuses to go without Judith being along. Being Malorys, they know how to get their way, and soon both are aboard ship, bound for Connecticut. Both intend to enjoy their first season and not fall in love.

Nathan is aboard ship, working as ship's carpenter, because it is the fastest way to America. Captured as a smuggler, he has been offered a pardon if he can find out who has been stealing British ships and reselling them. He did not expect to see Judith, who had seen him in the house next door years earlier and thought he was a ghost. He had also caught her there just a couple weeks previously, but she hadn't seen his face. Now she's using that knowledge to blackmail him into spending time with her.

I liked Nathan a lot. In spite of his previous activities as a smuggler, he seems to be a pretty honorable guy. His early childhood was pretty good, spending much of it at sea with his father. They had a falling out when he was in his twenties, and before they could repair their relationship, his father was killed. Nathan has sworn to get revenge, but it's hard to do when he's in jail for smuggling. Nathan is also the guardian of his two young nieces. His sister had married a nobleman whose family never accepted her, and when they were killed in a carriage accident the family refused to care for the girls. Nathan is determined to give them a good life, but he is very bitter against the nobility. When he's offered the chance to earn a pardon, he snaps it up. He's not happy to see Judith on board, because he doesn't need the distraction, but she is also hard to resist. Getting to know her over the course of the voyage begins to lessen his prejudice, until something happens that reinforces those feelings and drives them apart.

Judith is a little bit spoiled, but is basically a nice person. She and Jack are very close and have shared a few adventures. One of them was exploring the ruined house next door, where they had met the "ghost" when they were younger. Judith had always had a soft spot for him in her memory and when she found a man in the house again, she suspected it was the same one. She also suspected he was a smuggler, and when she found him on her uncle's ship she was ready to rat him out. She used that threat to make him spend time with her, and soon came to believe he was more than a smuggler. Her feelings for him grew, as did the attraction she felt for him. Just when things are looking promising for them, he is set up, and she jumps to the conclusion that he is guilty. I found it a little bit inconsistent that she seemed to believe the best of everyone, except when it came to Nathan, especially since she admits that she loves him.

I loved seeing James and Tony in this book and the problems they had with the idea of their daughters growing up. There was a neat scene at the beginning where they encounter Nathan, and it was fun to see him get the better of Tony. It does set up some interesting tension among the three of them as the voyage continues. That comes to a head when the jewels come up missing and things are said and done that create some hard feelings. Nathan gets a chance to get some revenge of his own when he comes to the rescue after Jack is kidnapped. I loved seeing James and some of the others on the bottom rung of that bit of fun. Judith too is dealing with Nathan's need to get some of his own back on her. There are some great instances of the perpetual back and forth between James and Tony and the Anderson brothers, but that takes a back seat when family is threatened. I love the way that, although they've mellowed a little thanks to their wives, they haven't really changed.

By the end of the book both Nathan and Judith have admitted their feelings to themselves, but still have to find their way back to each other. I enjoyed seeing their methods, and the final scene was fantastic, especially Tony's part.

I have no patience for this book. The more I think about it the more I am surprised that I made it through the whole thing. The first part of the book deals more with the relationship between the family members and just catching new readers up on who everyone is, which is, one, pretty confusing and, two, something that I believe no one even cares about. After spending some time with both cousins, Judy and Jack, all I kept thinking was I want to know more about Jack and just how disinterested I was with anything to do with Judy. So, to wrap up this very short review because I just don't want to talk about this book any longer here is a list of my "nopes".

- Both Judy and Jack are written way too immature to be at all believable. Before the author gave their age I thought they were around 14.

- Nathan is not a smuggler and that whole storyline is just ridiculous.

- The family has "Gypsy" blood and that's why some of them have "the sight". Like that's not problematic as hell.

- Random kidnapping that is super quickly resolved so we have something to go off of in the next book. Seems like the author didn't want to read about Judy either.

Its like a family reunion! We get to revisit old favorites and see the children all grown up. The Malory family is still hot and still amazing. No matter which story you read, its like coming home. Johanna Lindsey did an amazing job of telling the tale of Jack and Judith Malory. They are still best friends and have grown into beautiful young ladies. This is a story of finding out who you are besides Anthony or James's daughters. Its about falling in love and begin brave enough to follow your heart. I highly recommend this series and this book.

I have to say, this one was not the best from the series. It's just an okay read, and even James, can't pursued me to give more star.
I promised my friends to write my review in Bahasa, but I'm not in the right mood. I'm in the mood of ranting.
So, I better hold back, and I'll write it someday.

This was an enjoyable read. I would have preferred a bit more piratey elements to 'Johanna Lindsey's Pirate Book' but the sections we did get were fun. I liked the set-up for the romance but I don't think enough was done with Judith's character to mature her between the first meeting and the second meeting with Nathan. I liked the romance, I just didn't love it - there was nothing particularly memorable or swoonworthy about it.

3.5-4 stars. Though I know I have read this before since I own it lol, I guess I never made it around to rating it. These newer Malory/Anderson books I'm a whole lot less familiar with than the others, because I haven't read these a million times like the other ones. I know that I spent literally years waiting for Judith and Jack's stories to finally come out. I have to say that in the grand scheme, Judith's story isn't near as action packed as I would have expected. Watching these two trouble makers grow up I would have thought they would have gotten in way more shenanigans than what is portrayed in this story. Judith was the super mild one of the two which was kind of sad to me.

I listened to this on audio to give it a shot. Narrator did a decent job but still the physical is where its at. There are just so many characters.. If you were new to this story it would have been hard to keep them all straight. Nathan turns out to be a really good MMC. Hes of course, got the whole Alpha, infuriating thing down pat but hes also not as dominating as the other MC's. I'm a little disappointed we really didn't get into his family history much. I was thinking we would be having some sort of show down with his sister's snobbish family but that never came to pass.

Honestly as a whole I feel like we didn't really get to spend much time doing anything but sailing and even that seemed a little on the brief side. We were constantly flitting from one thing to the next, as our beloved Malorys face first a stowaway, then jewel theives, then Nathan has a mission in America to take down some ship thieves (which sadly enough we didn't get to actually "see" happen), then kidnapping, escaping, and heading home. All in all, I almost felt like Judith kind of got pushed into a side character role as Jack's personality is so strong and her story line starts here in this book.

It was still a great read though, will all the happy endings. I am more than excited for Jack's story since that is the one book in this series I don't recall ever reading since it has come out the most recently. Can't believe it ends after that story...A whole saga decades in the making ends in one book. /cry

*I gave this audiobook a C for the Story and A for the narration at AudioGals*

Narrated by Laural Merlington

When I first started reading romances, Johanna Lindsey was one of my “go to” authors. It had been quite a while, however, since I had experienced a Lindsey romance, so I jumped at the chance to review this one. Unfortunately, Stormy Persuasion did not do my memory justice. Although it definitely fits the mold of the old style historical romance, with a long drawn out chase between a reluctant heroine and never tiring hero, I felt unfulfilled with the actual love story. Unfortunately, the plot seemed to focus on so many other Malory/Anderson family members, that given that I hadn’t read or listened to all ten prior books, I felt a little lost. In particular, it seemed like there were too many unnecessary details which did not immediately pertain to the romance involving this hero and heroine or, arguably even, the mystery/suspense aspect of this romance. Even with these faults, however, after the drawn-out setup (which takes at least the first half of the book), I did eventually warm up to the story, particularly the mystery/suspense aspect of this listen. Moreover, the other bright side of this audiobook was the narration by Laural Merlington. This was my first experience listening to Ms. Merlington, and I will definitely be looking for more of her works in the future.

STORMY PERSUASION by Johanna Lindsey is an exciting Historical Romance. #11 in the "Malory-Anderson Family series, but can be read as a stand alone. I loved this tale of sacrifice, family relationships, pirates, passion, selflessness, romance and the power of love.
This is Judith Malory and Nathan Tremayne. Nathan, a smuggler with a noose around his neck, on a convert mission to America, looking for redemption and Judith looking for adventure and love.
Malory fans are sure to enjoy Ms. Lindsey's return to the Malory clan. Even if you haven't read one of the Malory tales, you will enjoy "Stormy Persuasion". It was not hard to follow the storyline, and characters. Well written with the most engaging characters, and an intriguing as well as interesting storyline and very entertaining indeed. A bit of humor is added to this tale, which, is a plus. A new generation of Malory's are on the horizon. Look out fans, there is sure to more coming. I absolutely loved this story. I was turning pages as fast as I could, and didn't want to put it down. I would highly recommend this title. Oh did I mention the passion, the danger around the corner and the betrayal. Well done!!
Received for an honest review from the publisher and Net Galley.

I've loved Johanna Lindsey for over half my life and I will continue to love her.

Her absolute best novels are her Malory family books which is what this is. I read her parent's love story probably 18 years ago and here Judith is - now 18. Time flies...

It has all the elements that you expect and want in her Malory novels. It's like coming home and it makes me happy. Every page put a smile on my face and I was savoring it knowing it would end too soon.

And the one thing that I always look forward to is peeking into the lives of the other love stories that I've read and loved these few decades.

Hard to believe that we're now reading about the next generation...the children of the couples that I've loved.

This takes you back to the adventures in the high seas, the witty banter between the family members, and the fun of the story unfolding.

It's quintessential Johanna Lindsey. Loved it!!

I love her Malory Series, and I was thrilled that my two favorite rakes were in this one, as dad's this time..and payback can really be awful....James, and Anthony are in store for some real eye opening drama, with their daughters coming out into society season. They not only have to face England, but American society as well. I will not ruin this wonderful book, for all Mallory family fans..but a lot can happen on the ship to America, even if your uncle James is the captain, and your father is on board as well....Judy, and Jack....put their fathers patience to the test, and their sanity as well....Look forward to the next one.

I was excited to read this, as I am a fan of the Malory family, but I thought that Johanna Lindsey relied too much on the colorful Malory family to make this story interesting. If I take out Jack and James and Tony, there really wasn't much interesting about Judith and Nathan. It was likeable enough, which is why I gave it three stars, but I was hoping to be introduced to a new cast of zany, loveable Malorys, and I wasn't, but for Jack. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how James Malory takes his daughter falling for a pirate...

...So, bring on the next one, Ms. Lindsey!

Probably a close second to the Gentle Rogue. Love when the story is on a ship headed anywhere. Loved that Judith found a rake like her uncle James and as sweet as her father Anthony. Great combo. Can't wait to see who is paired with Jack aka Jaqueline. This series just gets better and better, but I would love to see more interaction with the other couples... maybe some short novellas to keep Johanna's readers on edge.
