Check out my review on Instagram.

I honestly wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting into when I started this book, but I have to tell you that I really love where we ended up.

“Take off your crown of disguise, trésor, take it off. Show yourself in all your full glory.”

Dominique’s older brother, Damien, dies during Christmas break of his first year of college at Saint-Laurent. Dominique and his family have had a really hard time dealing with this, as it's such a major shock.

At school, or at home, I don’t feel safe. I feel haunted. By my thoughts, my bullies, and by my parents, who live in a vicious circle of grief.

Dominique can’t let his brother go and for the last two years has been looking for answers to what really happened the night he died. Now it’s his time to go to Saint-Laurent for college and he’s determined to figure out what really happened to Damien.

Gaël and Dominique randomly cross paths. Dominique is a virgin and he’s not even sure he’s into men, but there is something about Gaël that just instantly intrigues him. They are both drawn to one another. And trust me when I say, they are so hot together.

My cock is hard and begging behind my briefs, my body taut with desire. There’s something about this guy I can’t place, and I shouldn’t… He nods, then licks his lips slowly, my eyes clinging to every movement.

Dominique and Gaël are simply amazing together! I love how Gaël just decides that Dominique is it for him. I was super into his instant possessiveness and desire to take care of Dominique. He sees something special in him and he wants to help Dominique be his best self.

“You are mine now, I told you. So those lips—” My finger brushes past his wet bottom lip, and his teeth disappear back inside his mouth immediately, “are mine now.”

I am so invested in this world and absolutely cannot wait for the next book.

“Look at you, begging for it.” His mouth crooks up wickedly. “You let me tease you, let me edge you, even parade you in front of strangers. You’re a true treasure. And oh so sweet.”

*** I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest opinion. ***

As a French person, I couldn't wait to read this book full of memories from the History of France. It was nice to read references about my country and places I know and read a few words in my language. But there was a small mistake in chapter 22. We don't say "arrêt" but "arrête." But the rest was in perfect French.

On the other hand, I didn't get hooked on this book at all. I had already tried to read “Shameless” by this author which had been a dnf. I don't really like the way she writes. I find that she writes confusingly. Often, I don't understand where the character is, who is speaking at what time. I find the descriptions messy detailed to the point that I am often lost in the time, the place, the action carried out by the character.

The idea of the secret society in Dark Acadamia mode was super interesting but, in my opinion, poorly executed. I was bored, the thoughts of the main character: Dominique, were boring and redundant.
I was neither attached to Gaël nor to Dominique, nor even to this universe which nevertheless had a lot of potential. I was imagining something darker, there... it was almost childish. And all this mystery about the death of Dominique's brother had a disappointing finality in my opinion.

In short, I don't like the writing style of this author and the potential of the book has been lost. I wanted to dnf but I also wanted to know the truth, so I have read it all.

Hmm 🤔
Well, Gaël was a fascinating character.
Curious to see where this goes and which character’s book is next.

”Take off your crown of disguise, trésor, take it off. Show yourself in all your full glory.”

Came back to add a star. I’m still thinking about the characters and setting the next day, so I feel like I might have been too harsh with my original three star rating.
11/14/23 came back to add even another star because two months later I'm still thinking about how dark and hot it was. Really looking forward to the next book in the series.

Secret Society Instalove
2.5 Stars ⭐️

I love secret society books but I found this completely underwhelming. I couldn’t connect to the couple at all but I kept at it because I wanted to know what happened to the main character’s brother and boy was I disappointed. Really? How anti-climactic. I was somewhat interested in the side characters but this secret society isn’t the dark or ruthless vibe I want when reading a book like this and I just don’t see how it will improve going forward. Unless I see amazing reviews for the next one, I’ll probably pass.

I was thinking about this book because all I could remember was one mc getting railed on a piano in a forest, which admittedly, was the best part of this entire book 🤷🏻‍♀️
But I couldn’t remember a single other thing, so I came to read my old review, and now I remember and am instantly re-triggered.
WHY WOULD YOU SEND A MASSEUSE TO A STUDENTS ROOM AFTER HE GOT A BOO-BOO??? He needs a fucking bandaid, not a massage. Bruh. 💀💀💀💀💀
I’m rounding this shit down. Smut was good, but the only rememberable scene was the piano one.
PASS.

Old review: 3 feels too much, but 2 feels too harsh?
I can’t stop being confused when the MC fell over and was bleeding, so a teacher figure sent a masseur to his room???
I stayed for the smut because I still kinda lived for it but the story didn’t make sense.

And the whole mysterious “he won’t like me when he finds out what I’ve done” LITERALLY DOESN’T WORK IF YOU DIDN’T DO ANYTHING IN THE END???
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Secret societies within an eerie, moody college campus create the perfect ingredients for an intense, suspenseful dark academia romance. From the beginning of this story, I knew it would take me on a journey from the prologue.

The haunting trauma that plagues Dominique as he starts college two years after the untimely death of his older brother creates such a morose backdrop to this story that I was so intrigued as to the mystery surrounding his death and wanted Dominique to find some peace and resolution for his beloved brother.

While Dominique is processing his grief and trying to unravel the secrets within this college, he is quickly swept up off his feet by the mysterious Gael. Gael is quite a character. He is smitten with Dominique's passion and drive, which creates a fantastic dynamic that has many forbidden elements within it.

Overall I devoured this story. It has all the perfect elements of a gothic, macabre romance that is perfect for the fall season. I loved the mystery and intense love story that created such a perfect blend of intrigue and romance. Cannot wait for more in this series!!!

Crown of Disguise by Lola Malone was everything I never knew I needed. I am so obsessed with Gaël and I can’t forget our sweet Dominique. The journey this book took me on, heartbreaking and emotional, at the same time being every filthy dream I’ve ever had.

I loved the suspense and mystery behind Alpha Fraternarii. The gothic vibes and Lola’s attention to details, captured me. I’ve been back in my dark romance era lately and this fully gave me what I was looking for. Favorite scenes are the scene against the piano in the woods, and Dominique tied up in Gaël bed🔥🔥🥵🥵. Also, the atrium scene towards the end.

I do encourage you to read the triggers if you have any, If not you should fully go in blind. I feel like a good portion of this book revolves around Dominique‘s grief over the lost of his brother and the mystery behind his unexpected death. Dominique goes to Saint Laurent Boarding College, taking his brother’s place and to try to get some answers.

I can’t wait to continue reading this series and see where it goes. I have a feeling Gaël and Dominique will remain my favorites. I just love their dynamic and the relationship between them. I love when a character with dom vibes bottoms from the top. Gaël also gives the best nicknames, mon trésor— my treasure.

Lola — you are an exceptional writer, I love that this was my first book by you. Looking forward to your future work.

This was SUCH a different read from what I was expecting and I loved it!

There's a lot in this and I'm going to try to not do spoilers and I think it's gonna be really hard because this is suuuuuch a plot heavy book, in a brilliant way! This review is going to be classic bouncing all over the place and probs making no sense.

It has been almost two years since Dominique's brother, Damien, died, and Dominique is determined to find out what really happened to him. His death was within school grounds, an elite school he mysteriously received a scholarship for, and on a night where the school was closed and no students should have been on site.

Dominique and his family have an inkling on what happened, but they are from the wrong side of town to be able to question anything. So, Dominique investigates from the inside after being offered his brothers scholarship.

Gaël is also a student, the wealthiest, the most elite, the most untouchable. Except him and Dominique have briefly met before and they are a small bit obsessed with eachother.

Gaël is such an interesting character, I really really enjoyed his chapters and he felt untouchable even through his thoughts, except there would be small bits where he guard was down and you saw a little bit more. I feel like there's a lot of layers to him and that hopefully were going to see more of that in future books. Love him! And the twins, they're all little rich boy shits and don't apologise for it, which I personally love in books. Sometimes you need characters who are just horrible (in a good way).

The storyline of the brotherhood surprised me, I didn't expect it and I'm pretty sure this is my first brotherhood/secret society read!

The spice between Gaël and Dominique was hottttttt and a piano is involved which always makes things better 🎹

Overall loved it and can't wait for the next book!!

“Pull the string and we will move, pull it again and we will eat, pull it down all the way and we will fucking laugh.”

🖤 Dark Academia with a murder to solve 🖤

Okay, first of all, I just loved Gaël because he was the bad boy, but he wasn’t your typical one. There was a softer, zen side of him that I loved and had never seen before.

But my poor, sweet, grieving and tortured Dominique. The outcast because of economical status. Attending the school on behalf of his dead brother’s scholarship 🥹🥹

I loved these two boys. One beaten down and one powerful and confident. Gaël saw his Mon trésor in the woods and it was solidified then. He waited 2 years for him to show up, and when he did, he was good to him right from the start.

I enjoyed the story, the chemistry between the characters, the mystery that was weaved throughout, and the setting. It was such a unique take on a secret society, including elements and a theme from the French Revolution. Well done, Lola!

And the spice… 😉
- primal play
- First times
- Submissive/dominance
- Massage and oils and scents

“For as long as I live, I’ll live as I love—as his.”

Highly recommend if you enjoy hurt/comfort, a primal dominant and the man who wants to submit to him, and a dark mystery throughout the story!

I didn't quite like this one. The chemistry between Gaël and Dominique was sizzling hot, nonetheless. However the plot, all in all, wasn't that promising. The story started with a bang for me but as it progressed, I felt more likely to dnf it and I can't even explain the exact reasons for me not liking this book that much

This story was mysterious with just enough touch of dark and spice. Right from the beginning, you are sucked into the story plot. More you get into more questions you have, and I absolutely loved it. My brain was trying to come up with all different ideas of what exactly happened and who the villain lurking in the shadows.

I will try my best to sums it all up here without giving too much.

Two years ago, due to strange circumstances, Dominique lost his beloved brother. People say that time heals wounds, but the grief Dominique is feeling doesn't want to go away. There are so many things unsaid, and he made it his missions to uncover the truth. To do so, he is following his brother footsteps attending Saint-Laurent Boarding College.

I wasn't sure what to think about Gaël when he was introduced in the story. He kind of gave me a predatory vibe. Waiting for the perfect moment to strike and claim what's his... I wasn't far off really lol but I can honestly say I fell in love with his character and the way he cherished Dominique. They both were pretty much obsessed with one another from the moment their paths crossed. Some of Gaël's actions might angry you because he isn't fully honest but just gives him a chance to understand his reasons. Gosh, his filthy mouth and piano... IYKYK 🫠🥵 Dominique was truly lost after his brothers death, and Gaël showed him how to breathe again, how to be his own person, and how to be loved.

Let's not forget about the side characters... Twins, Louis, and Arthur, who i am dying to explore more. I know these two will give me the right book hangover lol I'm looking forward to it. I'm also grateful for Maxime and his friendship with Dom.

If you like a good mystery, secret brotherhood/society trope, dirty mouth, MMC, you should definitely check it out.

Please make sure to get familiar with TW before diving into this book because there are few. Personally, I didn't find the story that dark (it must be my black soul lol) BUT we are all different, and we need to look after our mental health.

well…

I’m sitting here trying to figure out what to say about this book. Even after reading the reviews I wasn’t ready. Oh my wow that book was good, and while I know this is fiction, I think, believe this is real. I bet there are elite rich of the rich schools exactly like this. Every one in this book is morally gray so be ready for that. The smexy was HAWT! And the writing really sucked you in and gave you emotions of hate/like. And I don’t know how the author did that but they did. You hate, like characters in this story. But you keep reading cause just like the MC you want to figure it all out, but you trust no one. So good and for once I won’t complain about diversity because we know there is no diversity in this group.

Crown of Disguise by Lola Malone

“I’d walk you back into the house like my favorite pet, Dominique. On all fours, a beautiful chain wrapped around your neck. Then I’d put you on my bed and fuck you slowly, and tenderly. Would you like that?”

I had the privilege of reading beta on this unique love / lust story between Dominique & Gäel.

It is not a coincidence that I have chosen my favorite piece of piano music for this review, Liebestraum (Love Dream)

Reading Crown of Disguise is like being part of one long dream. Some parts are sad, very sad. You can taste and feel Dominique’s grief and despair over losing a part of himself, his older brother Damien.

Dominique has lost direction. It is impossible for him to see himself outside of his grief—until he encounters the hedonistic Gäel. Like the upper-class that he is born into, Gäel is entitled without a sense of boundaries. The seduction of Dominique becomes all-consuming.

Other parts are nightmarish with an almost hypnotic atmosphere. The setting, beautiful and mysterious but with hidden dangers lurking. Often unclear what is real and what is made up or simply part of a grand theater, for the entertainment of the rich and privileged.

Other parts are beautifully erotic. Lola acchieves a full frontal attack on all senses as she seduces the reader to embark on this dark journey with Dominique which becomes a sexual awakening.

Did I fall in love with Gäel and Dominique as a couple? I’m not sure. I’m still processing. Still undecided if I like Gäel. He fascinates me but he also makes my skin crawl.

But I have fallen in love with Lola’s modern take on Dark Academia. Lola, you have lured me in, seduced me with your beautiful words and mysterious men. I’m not sure I like the darkness, but still I feel myself inevitably drawn to it, consumed by it and begging for more.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I hope it will be Arthur. I have a feeling he is just as wonderfully fucked up as his cousin—and like a moth to a flame, I know that I should stay away, but Lola, I can’t. Your words have spellbound me and tied me to your world.

Crown of Disguise releases September 21st.

I had a lot of fun with this book. What a great start to what I think will be a fantastic series.

I enjoyed the premise of the story, it brought all the eerie academia plot that had twists and turns and kept you wondering what the outcome may be.

Gael and Dominique were a unique and interesting couple. I loved how Gael is a mixture of personalities. Dominique grows a lot from the timid and bereaved boy he started off as. I was quite surprised with how I felt more for Gael towards the end when you see things from his perspective and I loved that.

This story is intrigue and delight and I am excited to see where we go in the next book.

I am so disappointed with this book, and I have only myself to blame. I picked it up with very high expectations - I was envisioning a dark-academia story somewhere between Cruel Intentions and The Skulls, and if you squint at this book, it could be that, but somehow it just didn't gel in a way I enjoyed. It's like this book is sitting on top of the ruins of a much better book, and I'll try and explain why as best I can.

The premise is excellent - a boy from a middle class family earns a scholarship to an exclusive university, a haven for the wealthy, but ends up dead in mysterious circumstances. His younger brother, broken by the tragedy, embarks on a journey to attend the same university and find out what happened to his brother. While there, he uncovers an ancient secret society and develops an intense relationship with an enigmatic young man from a very wealthy and powerful family. Like this is my dream plot, I live for shit like this. Could easily see this turned into a movie or show.

However, something was seriously missing. The writing felt like a sneeze that never materialises, like an unfinished thought, like walking into a room only to forget why you went there. Our main protagonist, Dominique, is a sensitive and intelligent loner who attracts the attention of Gael, a senior student at the university who gives massages and teaches yoga. Like, what was that? It just felt like a weird hobby and made no real sense in the context of the story. He self-describes as a predator, but this doesn't really reflect in his actions. His feelings towards Dominique are poorly developed, he just sees him and wants him, there's no build-up, no push/pull, no sexual tension at all. I just was never really invested in their relationship, I found their interactions corny and the dialogue just didn't feel organic at all. I found myself saying 'people don't talk like that' and rolling my eyes quite a lot. Especially with the dirty talk. Was a bit cringe if I'm being honest. Everything happens too quickly to be impactful. They hardly interact before Dominique is falling in love.

The fantastic castle/college setting was really underutilized, we spend so much time in Dominique and Gael's heads that the outside world seemed unimportant. I wish there had been a bit more of a window into the day-to-day of college life. Then there's the matter of the secret society and the mystery. It was typical rich people Eyes Wide Shut nonsense, and again, so much is said about it, but we actually learn so little. The mystery of Damien, the brother's, death is resolved, but ultimately in a rushed and unsatisfying way.

I really wanted to like this book. I was all in for a moody, atmospheric read with twists and turns. But what I got was something that was overwritten and far too reliant on repeating internal monologues. I 100% understand why people rave about it, but I just felt this formless irritation with it towards the end. If this book had been sharper, less repetitive, with better dialogue and less confusing interactions, I think it could have a masterpiece. As it is, it just felt a bit deflated to me.

Oh woww, that was an intriguing emotional ride! When you look at the cover you can catch the atmosphere of this read.

Dominique is in despair, his brother, his protector, his home is dead, now he’s so alone.
The cause of death was suspicious and Dominique is determined to find out what happened.

Dominique’s self-esteem is low, he’s bullied, mocked, beaten up, and needed his brother to protect him. A message reached him about his brother’s death.

“Mon frère, tu me manques tellement.“

When a spot is offered, by the board of Saint-Laurent Boarding College, Dominique accepts and takes his brother's place. Living behind the walls of Monterrey Castle is the place to find out what happened to his brother.
He can’t let himself get distracted by the powerful, sexy, passionate, enigmatic, Gaël Devallee.

Gaël is a player, who loves to hunt his prey, catch them, and take them, there are enough new youngsters at Monterrey Castle to hunt.
Only, everything is different with the brooding, tempting, delicate, and sensual Dominique. So he claimed him! Literally and figuratively, scorching hot!

Dominique is drowning in grief and memories, his piano is his sanctuary.

“Je jouerai pour toi.”

“mon trésor.”
Ghaawd, why is everything said in French so sensual!

There are secrets. If the castle and the woods could talk…🖤😱💔🔥🥵🍆😎🎼🖤

I think I have to leave it at this. I highly recommend you read this tremendously written, breathtaking story yourself. There are so many precious moments I want to highlight.

An ultimate extraordinary story, so strong, intense, and mesmerizing written! While it’s a dark read, it’s also romantic, intimate, delicate, subtle, and soft as silk, it’s downright poetic. Applause!
The story goes from anxious chills to emotional goosebumps. Wonderfully done!

Starting this book, I only vaguely had an idea about the blurb and l vibe of the book. But after a few chapters it just sucked me in. The feel of the characters and the painted aesthetic of the setting was amazing.

Dominique grew up near Saint-Laurent Boarding College for boys and always dreamed of going there. His older brother Damien ends up going before him on a scholarship. His brother, his savior and hero turns up dead on school grounds during winter break. Needing to know what happened to him, Dominique cashes in on his scholarship and makes it his own. Using this opportunity to try and find out as much as he can about Alpha Fraternarii, the community for the rich and privileged who are supposedly behind his brother death.

The last thing he expects is running in to the mesmerizing man who he saw after his brother’s funeral. He is still as captivating now as he was then. Gaël…

“My cock is hard and begging behind my briefs, my body taut with desire. There’s something about this guy I can’t place, and I shouldn’t… He nods, then licks his lips slowly, my eyes clinging to every movement.”

I love Gaël and Dominique together, Gaël just decides Dominique will be his and sets out to make it so. Dominique is more hesitant, feeling he should focus on unraveling the secrets surrounding Damien's death, but when he is around Gaël all he can do is give in. Give in to everything between them because it just feels so right.

“You are mine now, I told you. So those lips—” My finger brushes past his wet bottom lip, and his teeth disappear back inside his mouth immediately, “are mine now.”

This book was amazing, the characters, the secrets, the spice (and the piano!) and I cannot wait to read the next in the series.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In a dark, mysterious castle sits a secret hidden beneath the facade of the rich and elite. Dominique is determined to solve how this secretive school stole his brothers life 2 years ago. We follow him through his investigation to reveal exactly what happened to his brother Damien.

I loved Dominique and Gaels connection. My heart ached for Dominique and his struggle with the loss of his brother. Gael has this soft yet stern persona and I loved how he treated Dominique. This was my first MM romance and I really enjoyed it! 😏 The atmosphere of St. Laurent Boarding College was eerie, dark and everything I love in a dark academia romance 😍 it took me several chapters to really get into the story but once it picked up I was definitely hooked.

The spice in this book was definitely hot 🥵 and I really enjoyed that aspect. I was craving more conflict or angst. But that could just be because I’ve read way too many dark f*cked up stories 😆 Overall, I really enjoyed the story and the dark eerie atmosphere of St. Laurent College. I loved seeing how Dominique and Gael’s relationship grew into something so beautiful and real 🖤

Tropes:
— Dark academia
— MM college romance
— Secret society

This book is very heavily plot focused which some may like and some may not. I thought it was unique and very interesting. I liked that there was a secret society and so much mystery surrounding the death of the MMC’s brother who passed.

The spice was also great. I really liked so many of the characters in this one and I can’t wait to dive into book 2! 🫶🏼

I am going to be very vague with this review as not to spoil anything, but this book was like no other that I've read. I haven't read too many dark academia mm books so was super excited for this one and it was so darn good! A perfect mixture of sadness and darkness, I was drawn in from the very start and felt transported to another world. I can't put my finger on what it was but I felt addicted while reading this story. So much passion and spice and depth to it, it was so perfectly written. Full of angst, my heart was feeling everything and I felt like a mess at times. I think this is going to be a favourite for sure and I can't wait for the rest of the series!

This was intense omg! I couldn’t put it down and the fact that I read it one sitting says a lot.

Dominique and Gael, hottest couple of the year. Their chemistry was insane and the fact that the insta-obsession/possessive was mutual? Chef kiss. I loved that Gael became Dominique’s protector and i loved the way Dominique became more confident with himself as his relationship with Gael developed.

One thing I’m very surprised was leaning how the brotherhood works. It’s still messed up but learning how they do things was kinda.. surprising.

LOVE LOVE Maxime, Louis and Arthur. I can’t wait to their stories!

(ALSOOOO Is there going to be some forbidden angst going on with Arthur and Règis 🫣)

Wow! I was sucked into this story immediately! Very plot driven with darkness and spice adding in so much flavor. Gaël is such a dominant and comforting factor in Dominique’s life. My heart ached for Dominique as he fought through his grief. The spice was so well done! A great, dark read with a strong, fierce, and MM dynamic. Phenomenal, Lola Malone!

“Crown of Disguise” by Lola Malone. All I have to say is 👏🏼 THANK 👏🏼 YOU 👏🏼 FOR THIS BOOK 👏🏼 I have been dying over the teasers and it did not disappoint. Malone delivered a hell of a secret society, MM, dark romance and for anyone looking for something to get you in the mood for spooky season, ITS THIS! From the second I started this book to the second I put it down, I was obsessed. I have never read a book like this before and Lola… Ima need more from this universe! Yesterday 😂

This story takes place in France at the Saint-Laurent Boarding College for boys. Our MC’s (Dominique) brother was killed and now he’s at the college to find out what happened to him. A secret society called the Alpha Fraternarii has haunted his mind for the last two years and Dominique knows they have something to do with his brother, Damien’s death. But on the night of his funeral, he meets a blonde, mysterious man who consumes his thoughts until he arrives at Saint-Laurent two years later when he comes barreling back into his life. Gael Deveraux is french royalty and powerful and Dominique? Yeah, he’s his, even if he doesn’t know it yet. Their relationship continues to build and build until they’re so wrapped around each other one ends where the other begins. They from different sides of the track but that changes nothing. But Dominique, no matter how much Gael means to him, he knows he is hiding something… but what is it? How will things change if he finds out the truth?

Let me say this. I am not a slow burn, lots of angst kinda girl, USUALLY, but this book? I wouldn’t take away any of the angst because it was everything. Malone had us hooked with Dominique and Gael’s chemistry from the first time they spotted each other and kept the fire burning all the way to the end. Gael is a masseuse for crying out loud! Dominique didn’t stand a chance. Gael controlled their connection from the beginning — it was addictive to read! But also!!!! This book is all about solving a mystery. Dominique plays detective trying to find out what happened to his brother and he gets closer and closer with every chapter. Malone did a great job leaving us little clues throughout but the big reveal? I did not see it coming!

Overall, this book was so beautifully written. Dominique is a piano player and you can hear him playing in your head throughout the entirety of the book. It brings a gothic romance feel to the book that I was SWOONING over! The image of him playing a piano in the middle of the forrest while Gael watched is BY FAR one of my favorite book images I have ever read.

I recommend this book to all my dark romance readers who love a MM romance and LOVE a secret society trope! “Crown of Disguise” is super sexy and mysterious and a hint of BDE and BDSM! Ooooo! I wish I could read this for the time with y’all! Don’t miss this!

“Show me how you are mine, Dominique.”

"Crown of Disguise" is a brand new dark romantic thriller by Lola Malone. Gaël and Dominque meet at the funeral of Damien, Dominque's older brother and protector who died of mysterious circumstances. A note from a stranger sends Dominique on a years-long mission to uncover the truth. A mission that leads him right back into Gaël's sights. Throughout this tale, we get glimpses into the depraved world of the elite, a story of a brother's love and loss, and a sizzling hot relationship blooming through it all.

I knew going into this book that I wasn't going to get a standard sweet romance. No, the love story in this book is dark, one of control and possession. I was hooked right away by the chemistry between Gaël and Dominique. And besties, the spicy scenes were off the charts flaming hot.

But almost as important as the relationship between Gaël and Dominque, was Dominque's relationship with his deceased brother. This is his driving force throughout the book, getting to the bottom of what happened that fateful night that took Damien away from him. The descriptions of loss and grief were so poignant that I found myself tearing up throughout the book. They reminded me of my own losses and were so true to real life. This really helps the reader understand why Dominque is going to such lengths and taking huge risks for the truth.

We also have to talk about the dark underbelly of the elite in this book. Everything is not as it seems at Saint-Laurent. Hidden stairways in the castle lead to secret ceremonies and wild nights of passion for the mega-wealthy members of a secret fraternity. What happens when a commoner is found lurking where he doesn't belong, threatening the very existence of this clandestine society?

I can't say enough good things about this book. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a mysterious thriller with some hot MM romance and voyeurism thrown in. TW as always should be taken into consideration.

Excellent work, Lola! Thank you for letting me have an ARC of this book. This review is voluntary and all opinions are mine.

***ARC Review***

This is my honest review for the ARC I received.

Lola Malone is exceptional at writing dark romances. There’s a forbidden element to this book that is divine. I loved the entire vibe of the book. It definitely has some intense moments. Some of the characters in this book come from families that are ultra rich and really powerful in society. Secret brotherhood? Yes please! There’s also a bit of voyeurism that is spicy and provocative.

Dominique’s grief over the loss of his brother is palpable. It’s been two years and he’s still struggling to move on. His sole goal is to figure out what happened to his older brother. Dominique is a sweet soul, but he also has a little bit of sass under his belt. He’s full of passion and curiosity. He also submits beautifully.

Gaël is an enigma. He goes to the same boarding college as Dominique. He’s a bit older (22 to Dominique’s 19) and has a reputation as a magical masseur/masseuse. There’s more to Gaël that meets the eye. He is a very charismatic person, but has the ability to be a little cruel. He is also very dominant with his lovers. His obsession with Dominique is top tier.

Gaël and Dominique are instantly taken with one another. They are drawn to each other in a way that is hard to ignore. Gaël becomes Dominique’s first lover. The two MCs have immense chemistry. They have some spicy moments, for sure. There is a reference to love at first sight in this book, and I think it applies to the couple. They are very enamored with other another.

Dominique and Gaël have one big source of conflict to overcome. It’s lovely when they do. I was happy that Dominique was able to get some closure. The MCs achieve their HEA. On another note, I’m so intrigued by the twins (and Régis). Maxime is a good roommate and friend. I really hope they all get their own stories. I’m looking forward to future books in this series!

I was thrilled to start reading the book, and it did not disappoint. The characters and the world created by the author were phenomenal. I fell in love with them instantly. Dominique, the protagonist, moves to Saint-Laurent Private College two years after his brother's death to uncover the truth behind his death and the mysterious Alpha Fraternarii.

As he tries to find clues, he stumbles upon Gaël, someone he had crossed paths with at his brother's funeral. Gaël is instantly attracted to Dominique and plans to make him his, but Dominique is haunted by his past. The author has done an excellent job of navigating all the emotions and their relationship.

I enjoyed Gaël and Dominique's characters, but I was more interested in the plot going on in the background. I was eager to know about Damien's death and what had happened that night. The author had built a great suspense around it. I enjoyed Dominique's shy and sweet side but he had that feisty side as well which was so good to see Gaël my loving baby, has my heart... I loved how he wanted Dominique to live his present with his of course and how attentive he was with him gah I enjoyed it a lot. Their intimate scenes were sizzling hot, and I enjoyed reading them.

The side characters were amazing, and their brotherhood was wonderful. I especially loved Maxime, an amazing friend and I would love to see him more. I enjoyed how the story unfolded, and I was satisfied with the closure for Dominique.
Overall, I had a fantastic time reading this book, and I am eagerly looking forward to reading Arthur and Regis's story.
