Losing Virginity turned out to be totally different then what I expected and what the book first started out to be. I found myself to really enjoy this cute, romance story and really loved Ryder, what a dream boat!

The book is told in the POV of Olivia, a college student who is a VIRGIN! She has waited this long to have sex and she seems really obsessed with it. When we are first introduced to her and her roommates all I could think is this must be how 15 year-old boys think because they were all sex crazed! Olivia seemed to be obsessed with finally losing her virginity and fast; it’s all she thought about.

Olivia was on the search for a man to take her virginity and with the help of her over sex-crazed roommate Jessica; Olivia is using a dating site to help her find that special guy.

The story was okay but once Olivia started seeing Ryder I thought it became cute and focused less on Olivia being obsessed with losing her virginity I found myself more interested in the story between Olivia & Ryder and where their new relationship would take them.

I found Losing Virginity to be cute, different then what I thought in a good way. I do wish there was something a bit more between Ryder and Olivia’s relationship, a little more deep/emotional maybe. But Losing Virginity was a perfect book to read when you do not want anything too deep, just a fun, cute romance.

I give Losing Virginity 3 stars.

Losing Virginity by Ava Michaels

Book provided by the author in return for an honest review.

Losing Virginity was a cute, funny romance novel, it was an enjoyable, easy to read and I laughed out loud a couple of times. I thought it was a sweet romance novel and I would read more of Ava Michaels work.

We meet Olivia who is attending college and also works as an intern for a Charity organization. Olivia’s friends find out that she is a virgin and think it’s about time she loses her virginity. Her two work friends and roommate think Olivia just needs to meet someone and do it. Next thing you know her roommate sets her up an online profile so she can find someone to take this on. Poor Olivia cannot stop thinking about her situation and having sex, even to the hot stranger she meets in the elevator. She goes on a few dates and then she meets Ryder aka (Big Stick) and the story picks up from there. The romance is sweet, funny and gets a little hot once in a while and was worth the read.

Olivia character did seem a bit immature but I did laugh out loud a few times. I will say that even though sometimes I found some of her friends a bit unrealistic and immature I still really enjoyed this story. Like I said I am looking forward to reading Ava Michaels next book as I did enjoy Losing Virginity.

I have rated Losing Virginity a 3.5 star rating, and if you’re looking for a cute romance novel this one is worth the read.

This is a tough one for me. I want to like this book so much… I am almost at a loss of words. First, meet the characters. We have Olivia. She is an 18 year old virgin OBSESSED with sex and losing her virginity. Then we have Ryder. A 28 year old man who becomes Olivia’s interest.

This book has some redeeming qualities that saved it from a diving score! It is witty at many times. I can’t deny a good chuckle or shaking of my head. The plot itself is a good one. I was intrigued by the idea of a college girl on her quest to lose her virginity but not to just the first guy to come along. The supporting characters are a hoot themselves. They kept the storyline interesting and moving along. I could feel the kinship between the characters. They have good chemistry and work with the story.

Now, the hard part. The things I didn’t like about this book. This is the part that pains me the most. Now, first, I understand that I have received an ARC. So I will assume there wasn’t ANY editing done with this when it was sent to me. The misuse of common words such as where and wear or here and hear really grate on my nerves. There were many other grammatical errors that I don’t think should ever exist in a book, even unedited. I am not trying to bash the author, but if you are going to write, I would expect you to know the difference between common words. Then we have the timeframes. On more than one occasion, the author apparently forget that she mentioned the day of the week at some point during parts. It would be the night of one day and then say the next morning which was two days later. That is a simple mistake, for the most part. However, since it happened more than once or twice, I have to wonder how much the author was paying attention to what she was writing. Then I have Olivia. I liked her enough. However her obsession with sex really annoyed me. I was expecting a bunch of horrible dates and escapades before we got to the juicy guy. However, all we got where way too many random thoughts about sex, sex, and more sex. Not even graphic thoughts. Just generic, run-of-the-mill thoughts. I had to force myself through them for the most part.
To sum up my thoughts on this book… Well, I can’t put it in words. The plot is good, but the follow through and details are not. This book needs a lot of tweeking to make it something I would recommend. Hopefully the author has a good editor to help with the book before it becomes the final product! Please do not think I am slamming this book. I am just giving my honest thoughts on the book. I don’t like having to point out negatives about a book. However, this book had too many for me not to.

Losing Virginity by Ava Michaels is on of the most funniest books I have read. I love a good romance book with great characters and supporting characters. First I have to say that cover LORD HAVE MERCY ME! I would love to bring him home is all I am saying. Then I started reading the book and the first chapter had me on the floor laughing because it opens up with a scene that you are like holy cow and you can't keep a straight face.

Olivia AKA Liv is a virgin. She is the only virgin left in her group of friends at college. It isn't for lack of trying but she is ready to lose this card. Her friends set up an online profile but she is leery of meeting the wrong person and besides losing your virginity is a big thing. But Liv knows she needs to lose it because her friends are always having sex and are always talking about it.

Then she meets Ryder. Lord lord lord Ryder is hot sex on a platter and Liv knows she likes him but is it enough to give up her virginity? But what unfolds for Ryder and LIv is a fun and exciting story. I will not ruin it for you readers who have not read it yet because it is one hell of a story.

I will say this ladies we need a Ryder in our lives because he is one fine ass specimen of a man and he knows how to treat a lady!

...Review to come when I have more time, but I can give a few sneak peeks:

1. Sexual anticipation during this read made my toes curl. It was heady.
2. Olivia was awkward. Not cute awkward, silly, and/or funny. Just a straight-up mess at times that made my eyes roll
3. I LOATHE the Epilogue. Absolutely hate it and feel it would have been MUCH stronger overall had it never existed.

...More to come (Final review closer to tour date)

Losing Virginity is a story that follows a young woman named Olivia. Olivia is starting a new year as a freshman in college. She is a good student and a good employee even if her boss may be the devil. Things are good except for one thing - she is a virgin. She is now on a quest to get her V-card swiped. She hates that all of her friends already have (even her best friend who does it right next to her in their dorm room). Her quest is not going to be as easy as she originally thought.

I have to say, this read was a lot cuter than I thought it would be. Michaels has a great sense of humor. It sort of reminded me of Diablo Cody's sense of humor. I like that a lot. The story is quick and fun. There are a few issues I had with it, but overall, I look forward to what else Michaels has up her sleeve.

Our main character, Olivia, was interesting. I must admit, I wasn't sure if I liked her not sometimes. She could be incredibly dramatic at times and/or very naive. But overall, I did like her. She was witty and independent. I just needed to remember she was eighteen. I was eighteen 8 years ago and I never acted like this (I may have thought like this), but I knew plenty that did act like this. Her focus on sex was a little annoying to me because it didn't seem like she really understood what she wanted. On one page, she says she worries about being with a guy who has experience because she didn't. Then a few pages later, she says she wants a guy that knows exactly what he is doing. There are a few moments like this along with getting angry about something when she herself was doing something just as bad. She had a tendency to say things about people even though she was putting herself in the same situation and doesn't seem to notice. Like her reaction to Ryder's secret when she herself was hiding something from him. I do understand all of this though because she needed to learn what she wanted and she wanted it for the wrong reasons.

I loved all the side characters in this book as well. Veronica and Alex, partners-in-crime and Olivia's co-workers, killed me. I remember Olivia saying they should have their own sitcom or something. They really should, they were too much fun. They reminded me of Will and Grace (damn, I miss that show). I also liked Olivia's friend, Jessica. She is a bad roommate for having sex next to Olivia's bed while she was in the room, but she helpful and also made me smile. Our other main character, Ryder, was a favorite. When we officially meet him, the book picked up a bit for me. I liked it before, but with Ryder's character, there was more substance for me.

Olivia's journey really starts when Jessica starts an online profile for her on a dating website. Not a lot interests her until she meets a guy whose name username is Big Stick. Yeah, I know, but it isn't what you would think it means. Still though. Olivia and Big Stick seem to have a decent connection. Olivia thinks their first date was bound to fail considering the terrible bar, but they hit it off and soon there are more dates. Olivia still has to figure things out with herself, but it was fun to witness.

Now for some issues besides the ones I already mentioned. I didn't understand Olivia's journey to lose her virginity at times. She wants to lose it because of everyone else, but she is constantly berating them with names. You should want to lose it when you are actually ready. It shouldn't be a competition, but hey, she is only eighteen. Another thing was her age. She kept saying she waited so long to lose her virginity. You are eighteen! Is losing at the age of fourteen considered a thing now? First, gross. Second, it is still four years. It was truly all she could think about. You would have thought she was a boy at times. Another issue, I wish we got more backstory and emotion from our main characters. There is little talk about family or even love. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of that. I still loved Olivia and Ryder together, but this would have shown a little more how Olivia has grown. For instance, she says Ryder's nickname more than she says his actual name in the book. It kind of took the emotion out of it a bit sometimes. I just wanted a more deeper connection. Nothing sappy, but still.

Also, there was a scene that drove me crazy. Olivia and Jessica end up a party/concert and she meets her old boyfriend, Carlos. I didn't like her reactions to the interaction that took place. Her thinking pissed me off, but she was drinking. But what happened during that lessened it a bit though, it was quite funny, nasty, but still funny. Although, I hate to think about what would have happened if her ex wasn't a klutz. I had an issue with that part.

Overall, this was a cute and equally sexy read. The characters were funny and very enthusiastic to say the least. They will leave you with a smile on your face. The ending of the book made me happy because I was getting scared for a second there. I would have been fuming actually. This read is pretty quick. I couldn't stop when I started it even if I wanted to. Michaels definitely has a knack for storytelling and a knack for laughs. I loved her modern take on the The Wife of Bath's Tale. It is sad what happened, but I like how she pokes fun at the stupidity of the aftermath (it really is ridiculous). This is a read worth checking out for sure.

At A Glance
This book went up and down for me. I thought it was funny but also awkward. I was rolling my eyes a lot at the immaturity of these characters.

The Good
At times, I thought Olivia was a laugh riot. All she thought about was sex and her crazy sexual language had me giggling quite often. Her friends were so sex crazed they were almost unbelievable but that's what made the whole thing fun and over the top. I dare you to read this book and not laugh. Not possible.

Ryder was a cute, entertaining guy. I liked his sense of humor and how laid back he was. I loved how he and Olivia actually went on dates and had some non-sexual fun before the popping of the cherry.

The Bad
Even though I thought Olivia and Ryder were fun, they were also immature in a lot of ways. They broke up for the littlest of things. They never had deep conversations. I found their behavior, their friends, and their relationship a bit juvenile. I am all for the silliness, but a real relationship has to have a deeper foundation.

A lot of phrases and words were overused and I found myself more annoyed than amused.

The Epilogue should be cut. The book was the worse for it.

I also have a problem with the cover portraying this book as erotica. This is a very inappropriate cover for this new adult story.

The Snuggly
I liked how Olivia and Ryder got together, but the drama between them was just silly. It was like they were 15 year olds trying to date and breaking up over stupid things.

The sex was pretty hot and works for a new adult audience and up.

Final Thoughts
I wouldn't read this book again or read more if it was a series, but I don't regret reading it. I had fun and laughed. But there was no depth either. Very basic. Don't think I would recommend it to anyone because even if they liked it, they wouldn't love it. Not recommended.

Quotes
In Finland, girls who were ready to marry would wear an empty sheath around their waists. When a guy wanted to date the girl, he would either make or buy a knife and put it in her sheath.

Tell me it doesn't get any more obvious than that. Maybe I should just walk up to the next boy I want wearing a sheath. Would he get it then? Somehow I doubted it.
If the woman wasn't interested in the man, she would give the knife back, but if she wanted to marry him she would keep it. Women in those cooler climates always carried knives around.

I resolved that I was going to drop the fan and go for the knife. It's time I made a sheath.

"I just wish the elevator would get stuck today. Then you'd have to let me try... Your pie... It smells really damn good. I haven't had good apple pie for a while... It's too bad my mom lives thousands of miles away. She had the best apple pie.

NO, NO, NO. NOT HIS MOM'S PIE. Puke. I have to get my head out of the freaking gutter.

This book fell short of my expectations. I kept reading it because I though that it would get better, but I felt it got worse near the end. In fact, the book wasn’t all that bad in the beginning, but it really took a turn at the end. I felt got the impression that this book was going to be another humourous New Adult novel that would probably leave me smiling, but things started to get to me. The main character uses language that sounds like a mixture of adult and kinder garden talk. A little bite of this would be perfectly fine, but there is a lot and some of it is just down right useless. I find that things like “Jesus Penus” and other terms just didn’t work for me. Secondly the characters didn’t feel like they fit. The main character seemed a little brash at first, the main guy was actually pretty cool, but the roomies were weird. One went from being a virgin to having sex with as many guys as possible in a matter of days. Also the main guy...he was awesome, but he was barely in the book for the first half, and I knew that he was going to be the “main guy” so it was bothering me that we never really get to know him. But it was the ending that didn’t sell me on this book. I found that Olivia gives up on her relationship really fast...twice. She doesn’t bother letting him talk to her or explain and she just walks away until he does a big grand gesture. It made me feel like she wasn’t invested in the relationship. All of that aside there were some funny moments. The beginning was pretty entertaining and some of the scenarios were pretty good as well.

Good:

Some funny moments and a pretty cool lead male character.

The romance. The intimate scenes and romantic moments were actually really well done and probably the best parts of the novel.

Bad:

A lot of the story aspects just didn’t do it for me. They made it so that I couldn’t take the story seriously or let alone enjoy it.

Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):

Overall, the story has potential. It seems to follow a lot of stereotypes of the New Adult genre like extremely sexually active roommates, guys that seem like lady-killers that turn out to be good guys, and funny quirky female leads that are virgins. It didn’t really hit the spot for me and the ending was very anti-climactic for my liking. The writing was well done and easy to follow, especially for an ARC version, but I felt more work could have went into making this novel more solid and relatable.

Losing Virginity is a book about a girl who wants desperately to do just that. Lose her virginity. She is in college and she is pretty darn jealous that all of her friends are having sex like rabbits and she is being picky about the guy she loses her virginity to. When her best friend suggests online dating to find the guy to lose it to, Olivia is very skeptical but decides to give it a shot.

Losing your virginity is seemingly such a simple task and I am sure even with all of Olivia’s bizarre quirks, even she could get laid. But she doesn’t want to settle. She has her ideal first time and she wants nothing less than that. She was so beyond obsessed with losing her virginity that she even thought dirty things about her professor. But then there was the guy in the elevator… She had already admitted to herself that he was hot and full of one night stands. So it seemed to me that he would fit the mold perfectly.

It wasn’t until Olivia went out on her second online arranged date that she felt like she might have found the one… but the thing about it is that it was the guy in the elevator. And when she blurts it out on their first date that she is a virgin and he doesn’t even raise an eyebrow. He was just too perfect. But in Olivia’s world, that is exactly what she wanted.

I enjoyed the overall story as just that but I found it very hard to relate to. The only real angst in this book was all in Olivia’s head and I just needed more passion from it. I needed more drama. But I think this is one of those books that you will have to decide on your own about. For me it was a filler book but not a must read.

Olivia is an eighteen-year-old college student who is concerned about still being a virgin. When you live with some sexually active roommates, sex can be a sensitive issue. Losing virginity is a fast read with simple language, funny situations, an odd heroine and some obvious surprises.

The story is easy to follow and you will have no problem understanding the plot (the blurb is as clear as water) and it has a fast rhythm so the intensity is always present. I read it in only four hours because the hilarious dialogues are engaging.

Olivia is a strange character. She thinks too much about sex or better said about losing her v-card. This may seem annoying or weird because she looks like a horney teenager but I found it quite entertaining. Some of the thoughts she has are unbelievable but sweet at the same time.

Big stick (or Ryder) is great character. I’m glad that he ended up being such a wonderful companion to Olivia because the name was really bad… I don’t know about you but “Big Stick” doesn’t sound serious at all.

This book is faithful to the author’s warning because it has way too many thoughts that could be seen as over the top but if you are open minded it will be ok. The sex scenes are great, they lived up to the expectations and seem believable.

The only thing that bothers me is the end. Let me tell you, the book has some obvious moments but the epilogue was unnecessary, way too evident for my taste.

Overall, this is a funny book for a mature audience. If you are looking for a fast reading, simple and entertaining, this book is for you.

I was a bit cautious when the author approached me to read this book. This book was one hilarious journey!
Olivia is tired of her V-card. It's always attached to her, and she NEEDS to get rid of it. She can't always be the only girl who still has her V-card. So, she decides to go to every degree to find some guy who is worth giving her virginity for. But what she finds on the way is definitely not what she expected.
This book is hilarious. Yes, it does talk a LOT about sex and losing virginity and all that. But Olivia is one great character. She's not normal, definitely not. Her trying to get rid of her V-card is bordering on the verge of crazy. But she is a wonderful girl, and a snarky, humorous one at that. I laughed so much during this book, and not just any laughing, but the laugh-out-loud moments when everyone looks at you like you're crazy.
The relationship between Olivia and Ryder is intense and cute, too. He is the kind of dream guy that every girl wants to have. The one that cares about you, wants you, listens to you, and would do anything to get you. Although I don't really think that these kind of guys exist in real life, it was refreshing and kind-of like a fairy tale to read about their romance.
This book is not to be taken seriously. And that's a good thing, believe me. When you're depressed and the whole world seems like a bad place to be in at the moment, you just pick up this book and your mood will lift up immediately. The crazy coincidences and the even crazier actions of the characters will leave you breathless with laughter and definitely in a good mood. And who doesn't want an escape from time to time?

I honestly am so shocked that this book has gotten so many low reviews! I really enjoyed it. The writer has a brilliant writing style, far better than some new adult books I've read. The characters were three-dimensional and character and story development was done at a good pace. I couldn't quite give it five stars as there were a couple of things that made me cringe, but overall this was a fun book with characters who actually act like their age. Main character Olivia is 18, and at University, and from everything I witnessed of my housemates and friends when I was at uni makes this book seem more realistic of sex-crazed uni students than many books about university life suggest. I cannot fault the writer on her really great writing, and although I understand why some readers may not have connected to the story, I think that the author has actually portrayed a very realistic stance on how many young people act in today's society due to outside pressures from friends, media and what they believe are the expectations of everyone around them.

I've noticed that this book has been taken off of amazon and I can't find any recent activity on any of the author's web pages, so my only way of getting my message across to the author is through this review. My message to the author of this book is: Don't ever stop writing! You have a fantastic prose like quality to your writing that is so often missing within the new-adult genre, and if you feel that you have characters whose stories you want to tell then you tell their stories because you will do it brilliantly.

4 stars!

I was a little apprehensive when I began this book. It appeared that the character almost seemed obsessed with sex and her lack thereof. It sounded like she lived with a girl that had numerous hook-ups with different young men and she could never walk into her shared apartment without walking in on it. Once I got past all of this and the story began to develop, I thought the book got better. The turning point in the story for me was when she met Ryder (who she had met in the elevator previously) and their relationship began to develop. To me, he sounded like the perfect guy-expensive, vintage car; a good job; college graduate; beautiful home; and he really seemed to care for Olivia taking her on romantic, well-thought-out dates and treated her well. There was that little thing he did forget to mention to her but I don’t want to spoil the whole book for you! When Olivia finally did turn in her v-card, it didn’t seem like she was just having sex to get it over with; she truly cared about Ryder and wanted to share this “gift” with him. I did like the HEA ending and epilogue as I always want to know what happens to the characters after the story has ended. This story was a quick read and after you get past the almost immature beginning, I thought it was a pretty good story.

I read this for Hooked on Books

This is the story of Olivia, a college student who is, much to her dismay still a virgin. So together with her friends, come up with a plan for her to lose her virginity.
I will admit that Olivia annoyed me a bit at first, as she was so fixated on the fact that she was still a virgin & her roommate Jess certainly wasn’t.
Apart from a few cringe worthy moments, especially from her work colleagues Alex & Veronica, the actual story was rather good.
When Olivia meets “Big Stick” Ryder, the actual story begins, and it is a very sweet love story.
If you can ignore the very crass behaviour of her friends, although Jess comes good in the end & just concentrate on the budding relationship between Olivia & Ryder, It is a much better story.
It is a bit juvenile in the way it is written, but nevertheless easy to read.

Losing Virginity is a humorous account of 18 year old Olivia’s quest to lose her virginity, all of her friends have, her room-mate even has sex in the same room as her, no wonder Olivia is frustrated.
In her quest her friends sign her up to a dating site, it isn’t long before ‘Big Stick’ messages her and before long they meet up. Although it wasn’t quite a blind date because she had talked to him before. Their date was pretty funny, on telling each other something secret she tells him she is still a virgin. Awkward! Their relationship develops from there.
This is so funny at times, I like a book you can read and giggle at certain things in it, I also love a good romance.

Um...didn't finish this one - so didn't like it. I just couldn't take the inner dialogue of the MC. First we are lectured on why she's not ready and hasn't been ready to lose her virginity. All the while, she's the worst at sexual innuendos. I really don't think a virginal college freshmen would act that way. I get that this book is going for humor but it still needs to be based in reality to be funny. Then, the internal speeches turned to the need to lose her virginity. I couldn't take it.

The bottom line? I didn't like the characters. I didn't believe they were real. Felt like it was written to cash in on the New Adult rage.

I didn't finish this one, and stopped reading at 38%. I won't rate it since I didn't finish it, but I gave it plenty of time.

I just wasn't enjoying it. I found it really disjointed and it was like the inner babbling's of someone's mind.
The main character was way too obsessed about sex, she rarely thought about anything else. And I didn't really see what the big deal was because she's only 18.
I just didn't really feel any connection with the characters, and it was grating on me. Just not for me.

This was a DNF for me, I just couldn't get past the heroine's immaturity and obsession with everyone's bodies. I can see why some might find it funny (and I would have if it were handled differently), but it was way over the top in my opinion.

Read up to 20%, couldn't finish.
This book was not for me.
Heroine was obsessed with her room-mates' sex lives (who were ho's) and her lack of one. She would comment on how fab everyone else looked all the time, down to their nakedness. Seemed prudish. Is a liar. Used words such as 'FML, Jesus Penus, Major drag, fag-hag'.

Honestly this book annoyed me a bit. I think the constant obsession with sex was a bit too much. The girl is only 18 and has sex, sex, sex on the brain. She just started college. Her roommates are constantly having it. Also, some of the timing and description of things were off. It was just an okay read for me.

I cannot in good conscience recommend this book. It is poorly written, the plot is shoddy at best, and the female main character has a disturbing fixation on sex. I found myself skipping ahead hoping to find something redeeming, but alas I did not.

Ga begitu suka dgn jalan ceritanya, ga semenarik cover dan sinopsisnya, terlalu berlebihan, bukannya memberi kesan hot, tapi malah ilfil. Hanya karakter teman2nya sang heroin aja yg seru dan ga muna, to the point, jd lebih menarik utk dibaca. Jadi cukuplah dgn rating segini.

There were many editing issues.
The story is cute. Olivia and Ryder. I thought it was cute how they met. The premise was good. I guess it just felt to me, a story already told.
It has comedic moments with Alex, Veronica and Jess.
There are sweet, romantic moments.
It is a quick read.
