After becoming possessed by the vampire spirit Gray, telekinetic Caleb Jansen thought his situation couldn’t get any worse. But that was before Graham Forsyth, head of SPECTR’s sinister Research Division, took him into custody.
Forsyth claims he can exorcise Gray before the forty-day time limit runs out. But once at RD, Caleb and Gray find themselves ensnared in a web of lies. What is the truth behind the tests Forsyth is performing on them? What does the agency really plan to do with Gray? And most worrisome of all, why does Gray sense demons within the walls of RD’s compound?
Caleb’s boyfriend, SPECTR agent John Starkweather, has suspicions of his own. With the help of his friend Sean and a shadowy organization known only by their symbol of a moth, John intends to save Caleb and Gray at any cost.
But when divided loyalties threaten his last chance at exorcism, Caleb discovers love may come at a price higher than he’d ever imagined.

4.2 Stars - Happy smiling, doubtless the best so far
Book #5
Destroyer of Worlds, is the fifth (4 hrs) novella part in the SPECTR series. PRN crime novellas written by a by me favorite author - Jordan L. Hawk. Add to that: Narrated by a simply fantastic voice belonging to Mr Brad Langer and fast-phased stories about a kind of odd and unique "threesome".
Four enjoying —a bit twisted, both creepy and spooky— shorter stories with well told interesting crime cases before this one. Now is it time to solve these three characters problems as well.
(Reviews, cast, etc but no huge storyplot spoilers: )
***********************************************
The fourth novella ended in a kind of cliffhangerish way.
What to say? I don't want to spoil anything so let it stay with a few words: First: I really really enjoyed this one. I my opinion without doubts the best instalment so far. ~ Adventurous, stunning romantic, steamy, sweet emotional and another step forward to an good conclusion in the next and last book.

I love this series. I love the fact that it's so brilliantly plotted through, and the wonderful use of various monsters, and the fantastic action sequences and the very hot three-way relationship between John, Caleb and the drakul in Caleb's head. I also love the fact that I have this book at all, because the ending of book 4 made me scream aloud and I have been waiting for this with very little patience indeed.
In this book we have the culmination to a lot of plotlines - Caleb's 40 days are up and he must either exorcise Gray or be possessed forever; John has let them be taken off to a secure facility despite all the promises of safety and this is a pretty obvious mistake; the moth people are finally coming out and are unlikely to be who you expect. Suffice to say, shit goes down.
You need to read the whole series from book 1, and if you don't like cliffhangers you probably ought to wait till the last book comes out, but let's be grown-up about this: cliffhangers are great, and the pleasures of anticipation are not to be lightly discarded.
I want it in the record that under no circumstances did I cradle/stroke my Kindle while whispering “my precious” in a creepy Gollum voice, when I got my copy of this book. I, in no way, did that. ‘Cause that would be weird. So…totally didn’t do that. I swear.
Right. Now that we’ve got that settled…
Caleb’s biggest problem should’ve been the fact that he’s got a week till his clock stops ticking and he’s got a permanent roommate in his head. That was until he found himself remanded to the control of Graham Forsyth and SPECTR’s Research Division.
Gray’s biggest problem should’ve been the fact that in a week the man he loves is going to try and kill him. Then everyone started trying to kill the men he loves.
John’s biggest problem should’ve been the fact that he is pretty sure he is going to go against everything he believe in to save the man and drakul that he loves. Then a betrayal of trust costs him everything, and leaves him with nothing.
Caleb, Gray, and John thought they knew how everything was going to end, then someone changed all the rules and now they are going to have to decide whether their love for each other is worth the cost of everything they hold sacred.
A month. I’ve waited a little over month to find out what happened after the cliffhanger in Eater of Lives (and there are others out there who’ve had to wait even longer, poor buggers) but it was soooo worth it. This book hit all my soft spots…and quite a few of my hot spots (biting makes me go all tingly…not that you really needed to know that). Caleb finally makes his choice, John finally learns some truths (at great cost), and Gray finally gets a proper meal–-with rather explosive results.
While I might not be a big fan of cliffhangers, this book repays us quite nicely with some great action and some answers to questions that have been lurking around the edges of SPECTR headquarters. Not only do we get a look into what is happening in Forsyth’s creepy ‘Research’ Division, but the moths finally come out to play in the open–-and boy do both offer us some shockers. Some things I saw coming, others I totally didn’t, and one thing–well let’s just say it was probably inevitable, if heartbreaking. This book throws loyalties up in the air and you never quite know where they are going to fall when they hit the ground.
There was also some pure awesome lightning hotness going on between John and Gray. A lot of the books so far have dealt with the difficulties between John and Caleb, and how Gray is influencing both of their decisions, but up until now Gray has been a spectator in most of the relationship. No longer. This book finally puts the big question front and center, and everyone is going to have to finally admit how they feel about each other. Because time is almost up and decisions must be made. It is no longer just about Caleb and John…it can’t be. Gray has to speak up, John has to fess up, and Caleb has to choose between ‘normal’ and the life he could have if only he lets his old dreams go. I really don’t want to spoil things…but I will give you this: it is hot. When all comes down to it, and finally they have all made their choices, for better or for worse…it is so incredibly freaking hot.
Honestly? I just loved this book. It balanced perfectly between giving us answers and posing some new and interesting questions. We got some nice action, a few resolutions, and a several steps closer to my longed-for Gray/Caleb/John total three-way power and love-filled sex romp (ok, I don’t actually expect a ‘sex romp’ but a girl has gotta dream). I can’t wait to see what unfolds in book six, Summoner of Storms (out in July of 2014, I believe), and am looking forward to whatever Jordan Hawk throws at the trio. And it is actually starting to feel like a trio, instead of a couple with an audience lurking around the back of everything. You really need to read this (though, as I’ve said before, this series needs to be read in order so that you can really get the full impact. They are really good stories, so it isn’t like it will hurt you). I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Still feeling the same. This series just gets better and better. I reread this in one sitting last night and then this morning I reread that scene at the end because fuckkkkk...so hot.
-------Orig Review March 2017------ 4.5 Stars
I think this one is my favorite yet! And that scene at the end -- so fucking hot.
Destroyer of Worlds SPECTR, Book 5 By: Jordan L. Hawk Narrated by: Brad Langer This book really keeps the listener on a wild ride! So much happens here! Lots of things about Spectr, a new group, and John/Caleb/Grey. Narration very good!
Woohoo! This was the best installment! OMG, when Caleb gets blank by blank, I was shocked! How could blank do that?!?!?!?! And WTF is up with the super secret bunker? How could anyone think it's a good idea to try and control demons for an army? I could see that was a bad idea from the start. Clearly the people who gave the green light didn't have a high sense of self preservation because most of those dudes are dead. Hah, jokes on them!
I really loved this installment and highly recommend. The narration is great, the audio quality still poor but I can live with it. 5 stars! Because that ending was whoa! ;)
This series just keeps getting better and better. There were some surprising twists in his installment and one or two things I saw coming. Terrific writing, fast paced action, an imaginative plot and smoking three way sex between two men. The cliff hanger has me hungry for the next much too short book. Gawd I love this series!
My personal favorite book of the series! This one kicks ass. If you haven't read this series yet, what are you waiting for? Book one is free so give it a try! This series sucked me in from the beginning and its a wild ride. Oh, and this one (unlike book four) doesn't end in a cliffhanger. YAY!
This one was a heavenly delicious delicacy with a demon on top.
Destroyer of Worlds will definitely have your heart racing and mind spinning. It’s fast paced and things are tenser than ever. Caleb/Gray have been taken into SPECTR custody, and unknown holding place where they perform test after test. The deadline for the exorcism is only days away and everyone is on edge. But things are not as they seem and SPECTR are keeping secrets from them – the least being that the holding place contained many, many demons. Not to mention the sinister warning note they found in their living quarters; they were in grave danger and SPECTR were never going to let them go.
There is a sinister feeling in the air throughout the book. There are many revelations, betrayals and decisions. I would say this book is more emotional than the previous ones for many reasons, how could it not with everything that happened. I think we went through the whole spectrum of feelings. It was a rollercoaster beginning to end – in the very best way.
In this book we, or rather our main characters, finally deal with the elephant in the room; Gray and their growing feelings for the vampire spirit. Both John and Caleb avoided talking about him for so long, about what would happen to Gray once exorcised from Caleb. It created a distance and uncertainty. But then again, I’m also wondering about how much strain this kind of new – and strange – relationship could take. How much could you ask of it that they weren’t already?
Brad Langer once again performed this book to perfection. I love the intensity of his narration. I’m also enjoying his gruff vice. He totally broke me when Gray asked that John’s eyes would be the last colour he’d see. It was so heartbreaking that I lack the words to describe it. I mean here is this thousands of years old vampire spirits that’s seen and done countless of things, and the last thing he wanted to see was the colour of John’s eyes… It was powerful and moving, and I credit Langer for giving the listener those feelings.
I think this book might be my favourite yet, I think I said that about the last one too, but come on they keep getting better and better. And that’s saying something. The future is still uncertain, there’s a lot to clear up and it will be interesting to know what happens next in this world.

What's this? The guy on the cover is dressed, unlike for the previous 4 stories in the series?! *le gasp*
If this series were a single book, this would be the part to race through, because it gets really exciting. The plot switches from monster-of-the-week to the main event, things are uncovered, the good guys and the bad guys are clearly divided, (the right) decisions are made, confessions and confessed and we're heading on quickly to the final confrontation. I might be going out on a limb here, but as there are 6 novellas in this series and it's complete, I assume it will happen soon.
It's fun and exciting - my only problem is with the format, I guess. I don't feel like a series of novellas really work for it, but that might just be me.
This is the best book in the series so far. It sees Caleb making a vital decision about his future and John coming to terms with the shadowy side of SPECTRE. Friends become enemies and colleagues become allies.
Lots of action which resolves some of the questions and also sets the series up for more adventures. I really like this book because it takes the series to a new level and ramps up the action.
We also get to see old characters with new depth. Caleb, John, Sean, Tiffany, and even the bosses go through different kinds of 'reveal' and we get to see them in a different light.
This book reignited my interest in the series. Not that I wasn't enjoying the earlier books but they were beginning to drag for me. This book starts a new fast and intriguing pace and had me hooked and definitely hungry for and keen to wade into the second series.
I think this is definitely a series for the long haul.
I'm totally invested in this series and these characters and DESTROYER OF WORLDS was full of action, betrayal, and all the feels. I'll keep this review short because there's not much I can say without spoilers but I love the way things are shaping up. John and Caleb really start to communicate and settle into their relationship and we see a lot of development of Gray as a part of that relationship. I especially loved the banter between Gray and Caleb in this one. With lots of twists and surprises, this was a great read and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Content Warning: brief recounting of past suicide attempt
4.5 for this one ... WOW I loved it - finally after much carnage, terrible disloyalty and one smokin reunion scene John, Caleb & Grey can find their rhythm- really enjoying the pace of this series
SO MUCH ACTION! Which Ms. Hawk has always been good at writing and it really shines here. Things with Spectr are not all they seem and the reveals here are nerve-wracking. There are twists and turns aplenty, so I won't say more so as not to spoil things. :D
As I said in my review for the first book in this series, I don't read M/M/M or polyamory of any kind. I was hesitant to start this one at first, but eventually decided to give it a go when the first one was offered free. I thought that it being M/M(/M) would make this series more along the lines of what I'm used to while still offering something new. I'm not a fan of insta-love, which this series definitely uses, but the implications of it aren't ignored and I do like that. The somewhat dubcon-y undertones of the first book, what with the involuntary possession and all, didn't help but that hasn't really been an issue for awhile now. I do wish though that John and Gray had more interactions prior to this, because while I can see why Gray would be falling for John, being influence by Caleb's feelings and thoughts, it's much less clear why John would be falling for Gray beyond having a yen for "phenomenal cosmic power, itty bitty living space." It's at least acknowledged, so I'm hoping we'll get more of that interaction in the final installment.
THIS WAS SO GOOD The series finally hit it's stride, the character development was amazing, the ACTION was so good, and I would lay my life down for Gray. I'm so happy with how this threesome is developing, it's so GOOD
This paranormal series is seriously good but I can't believe I now have to wait until July for the last installment, how will I manage! It was great to see Gray finally get the opportunity to step up and take control with John, it's what I've been waiting for all along. That last scene between the two of them was seriously hot and well worth waiting for! The three way relationship look like it could work and I love the way that Gray and Caleb are now starting to merge and become one.
