I’m not looking for a hero, and definitely not a fake relationship with my new boss, nightclub owner Dante Fury—over six feet of dark, hot, and dangerous.

But he isn’t taking no for an answer.

The plan was to run, live under the radar, survive. My life’s been destroyed by some very bad people and everything I know is gone—career, friends, family. I thought I could hide as a bartender at New Orleans’ hottest new club, Ember.

I can’t trust anyone, but after I’m attacked, Dante is determined to play protector by claiming me as his. No one would dare touch the woman of one of the Fury brothers. Suddenly, I’m living at his place, and he’s touching me, kissing me, taking care of me…

Dante makes it very hard to remember this relationship isn’t real. He makes my heart race, but he’s way out of my league, and he’s protecting his own broken pieces.

Nothing this fake should feel this right.

The bad guys won’t give up, but I’m starting to think the biggest danger to me is Dante Fury.

The Fury fierce, loyal, and live by their own code
Five men who grew up in foster care and became brothers by choice. They vow to always have each other’s no questions, no doubts, no hesitation. They protect their own…always.

DNF @ 47%

I tried and tried and tried to get over that OW kissing scene, but I just can't. I need a pill that would provide short term memory loss. Because even thinking about it, makes me want to puke so hard.

For the context, Mila was on a break and she was called to Dante's office. They said he doesn't bring any woman to his office but apparently Mila is a special case (so it seems the OW, too 🙄) When she got there the tension between them is so thick. Dante's hellbent on this fake dating to protect Mila but she feels differently cuz she doesn't want to put people in harm's way. Ignoring her protest, he decided they will be happening whether she likes it or not. And then after this declaration from Dante, something snapped between them and they almost do the deed in his office but someone knocked and interrupted them.

After that intrusion, Mila went back to bartending and it's probably a few hours only before the end of her shift. Once her shift was done, she went to Dante's office to talk to him. But surprise FUCKING surprise! He was there with a gorgeous redhead wrapped around him, kissing, and was tugging at his belt.

And I fucking lost my interest at this point, this scene happened at 37% and I tried to read up to 47%. I stopped cuz at this part Mila and Dante are kissing, and I can't get that previous scene out of my head. It ruined the book for me and I'm so excited to actually read this.

Another thing that pissed me off was I think around 39% when she told him she's not interested listening about the OW cuz Dante wanted to explain what she saw. This was his line: “You said it. She was wrapped around me. Was I holding her? Was I kissing her back?”

Uhm, is that supposed to make me feel better??? Why even let her kiss you in the first place?? Asshole.

Oh and this was his inner monologue about that scene:

"Fucking Jasmine. A muscle ticked in my jaw. Pulling that stunt had been beneath her. I’d told her numerous times I wasn’t interested, but she wasn’t a woman used to hearing no. But for her to pull her shit and for Mila to see it…?"

I'm out, not going to continue this anymore. 😤

An enjoyable quick romantic read with a suspenseful aspect.
Though predictable and slightly cliche, it was nicely written and flowed.
There was one o/w scene which I found unnecessary.

The premise was interesting, five brothers by choice and not blood that came out strong, powerful and wealthy from foster care.
I would like to read the next parts, with the stories of the other four brothers.

I love starting a new Anna Hackett series and adoring it more than I thought I would, which was the case here! This definitely has the potential to be up there with her best series, although it’s still a little early to tell.

Hackett set up and used a lot of plot points that worked well here, and it was fun to see her take on this trope mishmash, which included:

✨Found family band of brothers
✨Woman on the run
✨Fake dating

The FMC witnessed something she shouldn’t have, and it got her parents killed and her on the run. She hopes laying low with a new identity will keep her safe, but it isn’t long until her past catches up to her, mixing with her present—and her boss—in unexpected ways. Our MMC, along with his foster brothers, run certain aspects of NOLA, from gyms to restaurants to bars, and they protect what’s theirs. He knows having the FMC be known as his woman could offer her safety, but there might be a little more to it than sheer duty.

There wasn’t a lot I could complain about here, maybe a couple scenes here and there felt out of place or unneeded, but overall I’m really excited to continue this series.

This is the first book in Anna Hackett's new romantic suspense series, and I enjoyed it.
Mila and Dante's book.
Mila is on the run from the men who murdered her parents because she overhead some damaging conversation between her boss and some men.
She heard that the Fury brothers protect their own, and she winds up working as a bartender for one of the Fury brothers,Dante.
Dante knows that Mila is not who she pretends to be and sets out to prove to her that he will protect her at all costs. He gives off these strong " touch her and die" vibes that are absolutely scorching!
There were some tense moments with the baddies and some super sexy times between the two Mc's.
Looking forward to the next Fury brother romance.
Great start to this series.
For those who want to know...there was a brief moment when ow hookup from the past was kissing the hero and heroine saw it and ran off.Hero explains to heroine that the ow was doing the kissing and not him and he made it clear that she(ow) was nothing to him.
H was always into the h.

The start of another fun and steamy series from this author who always gives romance readers a happy ending . The Fury “brothers “ are a found family of serious hotness who are all successful in their own right in New Orleans . Dante owns a nightclub and is beyond curious about his newest employee Mila . Mila has secrets and doesn’t trust anyone but boy does that big guy push all her buttons !
This was fun to read as the couple clearly want each other from the start but it’s Mila who doesn’t want to admit it . Perhaps more a romance and less suspense as to be honest everything about Milas past happens quickly at the end. We get introduced to the guys who clearly will be featuring in the rest of the series and already things are set up for another Fury to fall hard . I loved that Mila could stand up for herself and very much look forward to reading what happens to the other “brothers “.
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

The audiobook was really good. I think this is the first time I've heard Aiden Snow, and he was brilliant as Dante, and his voice fit the character perfectly. Erin Mallon was amazing as always, and I loved her as Mila. Would recommend the audiobook.

Dante Fury had clawed his way up to where he was today. Going through what he had growing up, being abused by his father and abandoned by his mother, then being in foster care, was truly terrible. He still carried those scars but was still grateful because that journey led him to his brothers—Colton, Kavner, Reath, and Beau. Now he wants to focus on running his club and keeping his people safe.

After losing her family so tragically and then being betrayed by those she trusted, Mila wanted to hold on to her secrets and control. Trusting others was not an option for her, and the only person she could count on was herself. It was painful what she had gone through, all that she'd lost and given up. I loved that she took up self-defense classes to be better prepared if the people chasing her caught up.

Mila took a while to open up to Dante due to her need to stay in control of her life while also fearing for his life if people came for him because of her. But she eventually does, and Dante helps her feel safe, cherished, and protected. For Dante, who'd been abandoned and thought of very little for all his life, he never expected someone to see him, love him, and choose him. But Mila saw him for the person he was and not his wealth and status or as someone to go to for a good time.

The romance seemed a little too instant for me. Like things progressed too quickly from him being her boss to being her fake boyfriend to her real boyfriend. I still enjoyed it, and I liked Dante and Mila together. The book was short, and there was the plot revolving around people hunting Mila, so it made sense too, but I just wish the transition had been more gradual so it felt more believable. I did enjoy the banter between them and how bossy Dante was and how Mila teased him for it. The spice was good, and it was just the right amount for the book.

This book was fast-paced, and the romance and suspense went together well. I loved how Mila didn't back down when the time came and fought her way out of the situation. However, it was a little unrealistic in my opinion, given how she'd only been taking self-defense classes for like 3 months and managed to take down like 3-4 men who were criminals. So yeah, certain parts were unrealistic, but I still had a good time listening to it.

Loved the Fury brothers, who aren't related by blood, but their bond is something that's much deeper. Honestly, I can't pick just one because they're all so amazing, and I loved how involved they all were in this book.

4 Dante and Mila Stars

It's so nice to read a book that takes you away from reality for a while and makes you really keen to read the rest in the series. I do enjoy a romantic suspense and Fury definitely delivers.

Dante Fury is one of five brothers. They are not biologically related but they all met as children in the Foster Care System and traumatic experiences bonded them. As adults their connection is stronger than ever and they decide to all formally change their surnames to Fury - and a family was born.

Dante (early 30's) is a businessman who owns a nightclub and some restaurants in New Orleans. Mila (mid 20's) is a new employee at his Club but despite his attraction he tries to keep clear boundaries but Mila is running away from something and once she is in danger he cannot keep away any longer.

I liked both lead characters equally. This is very much 'damsel in distress is saved by an incredibly hot Hero ' and I loved it! Fantastic secondary characters who bring some lighter moments to the darker aspects.

I read the ebook combined with listening to the audiobook. Excellent narration by Aiden Snow and Erin Mallon. Listening time 5h 34m / 280 pages.

HEA? This book leads into the next one so no epilogue in the future.
Cheating? Dante is kissed by another woman - it's not cheating.
Be aware - Loss of parents / childhood abuse /violence against a woman feature.

Started off great then the story took the typical tropes to the extreme…for instance this story is about Mila who is running and hiding from the bad guys…she took a self defense class and now she is a super badass who hand to handed 4 dudes and won…2 were the ones who were hardened criminals who killed her parents but they stood there and let her kick their asses a wham bam thank you ma’am…and she was able to knock a gun out if another’s hand without a bullet being fired…and wrapped a rope around his neck and was choking him…so one self defense class equated to combat hand to hand that ya know seals and green beret get…. But I digress, Mila was so scared to trust cuz she was on the run, but Eli lures her out and she just trots right on out there no hesitation but I am suppose to believe the earlier trope that she needed to leave cuz people got hurt and the trope her best friend turned on her so she does not trust people. Yeah not so much….needless to say I am extremely disappointed as I really liked this author’s previous works, but feels like she is trope chasing.

It was OK but it was so predictable that it became a bit boring.
Also I'm super tired of books being advertised as "fake dating" when they are not, in fact, fake dating (or not for more than 2 pages), but already half in love.
This wasn't what I was looking for.

This was kind of lackluster. WHERE IS THE DRAMA? THE ANGST? THE CHASE? THE AGONY OF WANTING SOMETHING SO BAD BUT BEING DENIED SO YOU JUST STRIVE TO HAVE IT NO MATTER WHAT.
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I feel like the author was scared to do more tbh even though she had built really nice premises for the plot but there was no fire.

This story is fun! Dante Fury and his ‘brothers’ are known for keeping their corner of New Orleans safe, which is how Mila ends up there, working in the night club Ember, after her entire world implodes. Mia accidentally overheard a conversation that she wasn’t supposed to hear, and has been on the run ever since. Some really bad people are after her, and want to end her life. Dante and his brothers are a ‘found’ family. They ended up together in foster care, and decided to band together to create their own family. As such, they each have their own sets of skills and talents, and have used them to make their little corner of New Orleans a somewhat safer place to be. Dante knows the haunted look that he sees when he looks at Mila, so he knows she’s hiding something. He wants her to trust him, but she’s so wary of trusting anyone. Regardless, the conflicts are clear and in true Anna Hackett style, the villains are dealt with and there is bloodshed and fury along the way!

This story flows well, and is entertaining to read. There are a few scenes that are concluded somewhat too conveniently, but that’s part of what makes these stories so much fun! The childish part of me gets to jump up and down and cheer for the good guys while ‘karma’ (and the good side) take the bad guys (or gals) out of the picture. Squeee!!

Wow! I was so lucky to be given a chance to read the ARC of this book from the publisher. This is one of my go-to authors, and I was already planning on reading Fury on its release day.

Since this is the first book in the series, we are introduced to a lot of new people and places for several chapters, which made the opening of the book a little slower than some of the author's other books. Even though there was a lot going on, I could feel it all building up in the background.

Fury had a great set of MCs and supporting characters! I loved Mila's independence and how tough she was, definitely a kickass FMC who could take care of herself. Dante remained a little bit of a mystery throughout the first half of the book. We had glimpses of why he is feared in New Orleans, and I kept wanting more.

Overall, the storyline pulled me in, and I didn't want to put the book down. It was a slower burn, but the chemistry between the MCs was 🔥. Definitely had enough turns to keep the book from feeling too predictable.

I will totally be re-reading this one and keeping my eyes open for a bonus epilogue! I want to see more of Dante and Mila!

Now I have to wait (not so patiently) for Colt's story, which I know is going to be amazing!

Decent book until the end and then...uh.

The conflict resolution was just not well done and had me rolling my eyes. A lot. I kind of checked out/was annoyed for the rest of the book at that point. I doubt I will continue the series. At least until I forget about how irritated I was!

My kingdom for a good, engaging, non-rapey mafia-flavored romance.

This one's not quite mafia. But, it's close. And it's got a lot of the same elements you might expect to find. Seedy underbelly and shady business dealings. A group of powerful men who run businesses/large parts of town. Gang-elements and corrupt politicians. A woman on the run from super bad guys who killed her parents.

The thing is this book is quiiiiiick. 286 pages is NOT a ton of time to establish a relationship, set up the world's politics, explain a backstory, and proceed with a breath-snatching edge-of-your-seat dangerous plot. There's no time for pining and trust-building.

It's literally just sex and violence.

After Mila's attacked by [enter nameless bad guy] outside Dante's club he suggests they fake date--because surely nobody's gonna touch a Fury's girl.

The fake dating lasts all of 3 seconds before he's growling at her and kissing her and telling her it's NOT fake, it's all real....soooooo.

Character development left the chat. Mila spends the first, oh, at least 50 pages being paranoid and defensive and secretive about her past. She's always on guard and doesn't trust easily--which should have been great fodder for character growth, except it wasn't. She gets fucked by Dante a few times and turns into an imbecile, allowing herself to be lured outside Dante's fortress by a coworker, knowing there's people out after her, knowing they're willing to use others to get to her (she tells us a story of her BFF taking 10 grand to rat her out) and then has the audacity to act SHOCKED when she gets kidnapped.

Dante's sole personality trait: Bossy man who growls a lot.

Although there was something poignant in his "you can't leave me" speech as he was fucking Mila into submission. It would have meant more if we'd gotten to spend more time marinating in the fact that his mom ditched him and thus gave him major trust issues with women.

The action is entertaining, but cliche. There's no surprise about who the bad guys are or what their parts are in the grand scheme of things. I was happy to see some actual violence though. So many "mafia-like" books I've picked up recently have been severely lacking in the mafia-ing department.

The ending is abrupt AF, and the damsel has taken like 4 self-defense classes, so obviously she's a total badass who saves herself in the end because strong independent women don't need no man. Totally believable.

I dunno. I'm moaning, but I didn't hate this. But it felt like the author is someone playing at writing a smutty story, rather than someone who's churned out dozens of other romantic suspense type stories before this one.

Meh. This was fiiiiiiiine, I guess.
I'mma give the second book a whirl, but I'm not yet committed to this series.

A series I've long neglected of one of my favorite authors. It's a good book. Not greatly exciting but not overly boring. We meet all the brothers and get a layout of their lives, how they've become what they are due to the adversity of their childhood.

Mila was on the run for her life when she enters Dante's world. He's immediately intrigued and his sixth sense warns him she has secrets. Her former boss is a crook and she accidentally overheard some plotting which meant the gangster he was in bed with sent out an assassin squad. They killed her parents and were searching for her.

She ran and ended up in the Fury brothers lives.

A couple of plot holes... no one would hire a bartender for a high end nightclub without some type of referrals or bartending license to back up their resume. They never explain that. Secondly, this man was a manwhore, picking up women for one-nighters and of course with his money and looks, those women always came crawling for more. Not my favorite trope with the hero's sex life. Saying that, I guess he was trying to keep himself emotionally distant.

A good read but I had trouble connecting to both characters. :( Which I think was on me since work is wearing me out and I had to stop and start alot with it.

An FMC in hiding, Mila is on the run from who killed her family. After she witnessed a conversation she wasn’t meant to see.
A protective MMC. Dante is a boss we all dream to have he sees Mila for who she really is smart hard-working and very, very tempting..
When Mila is attacked right outside of her job, things changed between them . Dante took it upon himself to make sure she’s always protected, and that meant to live with him.
And by Mila saying that she is Dante’s girlfriend to scare her attacker , gave Dante the perfect opportunity to claim the title.
The spice scenes were on point 🔥

Strong start to what I'm sure is another great series

Dante and his brothers were introduced in Hex, but you don't need to read that series to enjoy this book. That said, you SHOULD read the Sentinel Security series, but I digress.

Dante runs one of the hottest nightclubs in New Orleans plus two restaurants. Tall, dark and handsome, not to mention deadly - Dante doesn't date, much less his employees, and Mila is not only one of the bartenders but clearly keeping secrets. Dante considers his employees as under his protection, but what he feels for Mila is much more. Mila's lost everything and afraid to trust, but Dante doesn't really give her much choice. Their chemistry is hot enough to burn down the city and they find the home they've been missing. Great secondary characters, can't wait for the next book, and all the brothers are promising leading men.

Anna Hackett is one of my go-to authors for romantic suspense. Her books are absolutely packed with action, sizzling chemistry, and unexpected surprises. Fury is the start of a new series, based on a found family of five brothers. I CANNOT wait to dive into the next book, though I might need to reread this one for the little Easter eggs I might’ve missed!

4 Stars!

I’m loving the Fury brothers! Can’t wait to read book 2!

Tropes: Boss/employee, Fake relationship, Crime/Suspense-ish?

Triggers: Stalking/Assault

Liked: I’ve only really read Anna’s sci-fi romances in the past (which I loved), so this was a nice surprise for me to come across! This is the best kind of bossy dirty talker, but is also a secret softy with a heart of gold. Dante was so protective of Mila, which I loved! And the spicy level was just a perfect fit for these two!

Disliked: This would have probably been 4.5 stars if it wasn’t for the unnecessary OW drama. It was only a short scene but just really ruined the flow for me. I also wanted to shake Mila at times to just accept the help!

OW/OM: No virgin h. H only had casual flings in the past. h walks in on H kissing OW (after they’d kissed). Turned out to be a misunderstanding and he said he wasn’t kissing back.

Series: Fury Brothers #1
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

Mila is working as a bartender at New Orleans’ hottest new club, Ember, and trying to keep a low profile. When she is attacked she finds herself rescued by her hot boss, Dante Fury, and being coerced into a fake relationship to keep herself safe.

I am a sucker for the fake relationship trope so I was excited to dive into this one. Mila may be on the run but she is determined to make the best of her situation. She takes self-defense training, is making friends, and has learned to be a good bartender. I loved her determination and drive to not be a victim anymore. Mila may give in to Dante’s protection but she doesn’t hesitate to fight back when needed. Mila was just a great heroine and I really enjoyed seeing her drive Dante wild.

Dante is a very protective man who has no problems bending the rules. He has worked hard for everything he has and is determined to protect the business, his brothers, and his employees. While Dante was a very protective and a bit controlling male, I never felt like he was going too far or wasn’t listening to Mila.

Dante and Mila’s relationship was intense and very fast. They have been attracted to each other since Mila started working there but her being attacked pushed him to take action. Their ‘fake relationship’ is more of just an excuse to try and hide their feelings because everyone clearly knows they want each other. While a bit underwhelming for a fake relationship story, I still enjoyed their relationship.

Overall, I enjoyed this story and really look forward to learning more about the other Fury brothers.

CW: references to child abuse, neglect, drug use, miscarriage (not the MFC),
