So twisted and deranged and taboo yet… I didn’t mind it? I listened to the audiobook for Malachi’s parts and OH MY GOD, the male narrator needs to get paid triple because HE WAS SO FUCKING GOOD! I don’t think I stopped squealing while listening to his chapters. I fear Malachi does in fact have me in a chokehold…. He’s absolutely psychotic but also soft and broken and my heart HURTS FOR HIM!!!!

i should've remained wary of foster sibling romance after the shitshow that happened in the edge of darkness trilogy, but i never learn my lesson. this book is proof that good writing is just as important as a good story because, seriously this was so weird and disgusting.
i still cry over that trilogy because i lovedd it and wanted to read more from the author because HOW BAD CAN THIS BE? i swear if you're hesitant to read it after seeing mixed reviews, please stay that way. this is way too incestuous and trash.
and i don't know why it only applies to biological siblings and not to siblings who've lived with each other for more than 11 years. like does the feelings not count?

i thought olivia would resist till the end and there’d be some type of weird relationship between them since the start, but NO! it literally wasn’t like that, and they actually had such a good bond as kids, even though malachi claimed her as "MINE" when he was 8 year old! 🤡
i'm not kidding, she was level 10 horny. it was so gross reading their oral scenes that were labelled as 'lessons.' she's the whiniest, pathetic character i've ever read. she said things like,
'we can't do this, we are brother and sister'
And the next second, she’s putting his fingers on her 🐱 and telling him, 'I'll give you another lesson, girls like it.' FUCKKK EW.

⟡ this was quite literally the worst piece of literature that i've ever read. the people of booktok were, of course, RAVINGGG about this one. for what reason, i can't even tell you. i'm not even going to try and sugar coat this, so if you're allergic to hate then this review isn't for you.
⟡ genuinely how did ANYONE enjoy this book?! to preface, it's pretty obvious that this book was made for people with a brother-sister kink.🥴 the two main characters are foster siblings, and as they are getting freaky they are calling each other "little sister" and "big brother". FUCK NOOO.
⟡ there's a scene where their dad falls down the stairs and is lying down, bleeding and unconcious. and instead of doing the right thing (AKA calling the cops??) they decide to have sex over his dying body. her head literally on her dad's chest, listening to his heartbeat slowing, while the mmc pounding her from behind. ARE WE OKAY HERE? we've genuinely lost the plot bc i don't think i've ever read something so repulsive in my life. 😭
⟡ the mmc isn't even "dark + brooding", he's just fucking psycho. a guy from her calc class started talking to her in the gas station, and he just slammed his head against the wall until he fell to the group bleeding. also the scene, like i mentioned, where he's eating his sister out and the dad walks in, shouting. and when the dad tries to stop his SON from pleasuring his DAUGHTER, the mmc tries to kill him. that is absolutely DIABOLICAL.
⟡ and ahh, of course, the infamous screwdriver scene. booktok loved the gun scene from haunting adeline, so this author decided to take it a step further and have the mmc shove a screwdriver up her ass. first of all, that sounds painful, and second of all, how is that supposed to be hot.
⟡ if i'm being completely honest, these characters are perfect for each other. both of them are as equally fucked up and weird as the other one. there's a scene when he drugs her, and rapes her while she's unconcious. but she liked it? so apparently its supposed to be attractive. idek anymore, they can have each other for all i care.

⟡ and ahh, of course, the infamous screwdriver scene. booktok loved the gun scene from haunting adeline, so this author decided to take it a step further and have the mmc shove a screwdriver up her ass. first of all, that sounds painful, and second of all, how is that supposed to be hot.
⟡ if i'm being completely honest, these characters are perfect for each other. both of them are as equally fucked up and weird as the other one. there's a scene when he drugs her, and rapes her while she's unconcious. but she liked it? so apparently its supposed to be attractive. idek anymore, they can have each other for all i care.

Anyway, this was dark and deranged, and I absolutely love Malachi! This wasn't a 5 star simply because I wanted a little more toward the end. Buttttt I can't wait to read Leigh Rivers' other books. 😁

Hmm, the first 50 percent or so was SO good. The way he realised his obsession, his unapologetic demeanor, his manipulative and calculating nature towards Olivia was honestly done so so well.
Olivia and Malachi are step-siblings, kind of. So there is the taboo element of pseudo incest, and that was written well too, to a point.
See? He is a manipulative little shit, threatening her to get his way.
Your standart dark romance step-brother. And as a plus, I loved that has was mute, and I loved the use of sign language throughout the book. I don't know why but it added slight tenderness to their relationship.
Till something happened.
While they were fucking, because Olivia is "teaching" Malachi how to fuck innocently (yeah right) their father catches them.
And what happens?
Malachi beats their father up and they have sex on his nearly dead body.
This did not make sense at all.
While they are having sex, Olivia is not objecting at all, she actually says "Keep going and make me cum Malachi." or something like that, on her fathers DEAD BODY. (They did not know if he was alive or not)
When they finish, she checks the fathers pulse, and it's there slightly. And all of a sudden Olivia is concerned about her father.

She did not object to having sex on his bloody body, so Malachi did not force her in any way, AND she egged him on telling him to keep going. And when it's finished she has a problem with the whole thing and Malachi?
She goes on to testify against him. He goes to jail for 8 years.
Like?? OLIVIA GIRL YOU ARE GUILTY TOO WTF?
After seeing all of that, it was clear to me that it was done for the sake of shock value. It just didn't fit in.
After he is released from jail, he stalks her to torment her, and ultimately, he abducts her.
As I mentioned, everything after that father scene felt like a race to see how many shocking elements the author could include in this book.
Like;
✨ the scene with the screwdriver
✨ he puts a whole spider on her face while fucking her
✨ she leaves after 3 days to marry someone else, while Malachi BEGS her to not leave him.
And on her wedding day she confesses to her mother about how she is in love with Malachi and the wedding does not happen.
The end.
Our overpowered hero, who beat his father and multiple men for talking to Olivia, and Olivia, who is just INSUFFERABLE and quite frankly dumb, get their happy ending.

Oh wow.. THIS BOOK! I think I've seen it all now. The forbidden taboo siblings romance? FOSTER siblings (not blood related) romance. Olivia and Malachi are a twisted and deranged pair. I’m not sure if I should be scared FOR them or scared OF them.. In Part 1 it feels like a softcore porn written out, still somewhat innocent. But Part 2? ALL. HELL. BREAK. LOOSE. Crazy shits happened, things get absolutely wild and there's no clean way to describe it. I kept repeating not real siblings probably a thousand times in my head while reading this.. but the constant reminder with phrases like "I’m your brother/I’m your sister" made it IMPOSSIBLE to ignore. Malachi is.. something else, his inner monologues made me laughed. And Olivia, I hated her for a bit. The fact that I finished reading this in one day made me question my.. sanity? and tolerance to this kind of story. If you're looking to read mindless smutty book with basically 0% plot. Go ahead, this one is for you. Its a quick read, no OTT drama, everything is a straightforward MESS. I had that "What the f*ck did I just read?" moment, but I’m curious to see how their relationship handles the chaos THEY created. And the ending? It didn’t disappoint. Do I love it? Yes. I'm easily entertained and probably sick in the head, I enjoyed this wayy too much.

God I have missed a dark romance that just crosses all the fucking linessss, this was SO GOOD!
The spice in this was absolutely wild, but so fun at the time 👀 the somnophilia in this book hahahahaha omgbyexxx
Secondly, I loved how taboo this was, from seeing them growing up and like ‘teaching’ each other things I genuinely felt like I shouldn’t be fucking reading this but I couldn’t stop lol 🙃 and even though Malachi is completely unhinged can someone tell me WHY I was always feeling sad for him and like I wanted to just give him a hug?! I love him 😭😩 when he would sign to Olivia and she wouldn’t let him sign or look at him- oh my god my heart would break. Is he manipulative, yes, is he a complete red flag yes, does he need professional help yes, but I just have this overarching feeling that deep down he just loves her & wants her be his (gosh I read too much dark romance cos wtf am I saying but it’s true xo)
Olivia was kinda annoying tbh, that’s all I have to say about her really 😅
And yes the screwdriver & spider scene I dunno I was expecting more they weren’t that bad hahaha ok that’s enough from me now x
