20th-Century Pop Culture

Rate this book
Remember Hula Hoops, Space Hoppers, Pogo Sticks, and Silly Putty?
How about the first time you heard Elvis or the Beatles, the Monkees, or Madonna?
And all those movies—Some Like it Hot, Barbarella, Easy Rider, The Godfather, Saturday Night Fever, Mad Max, Silence of the Lambs, and Titanic…
What were you watching? Doctor Kildare, Mary Tyler Moore, The Partridge Family, Charlie’s Angels, and Fantasy Island?
And could you dance the Twist, the Mashed Potato, the Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, or the Hustle?
Whether you are a baby boomer or more in tune with Generation-X, a pop culture junkie or you just want a trip down memory lane, year-by-year this nostalgic trip takes you back to the days of Tupperware and tailfins, Peyton Place and Psychedelia, lava lamps and I Love Lucy.

Not sure there is much value in this book other than a walk through the land of nostalgia. It was mildly interesting to read the 20 years prior to my memory and see how early some technologies and fads became established. Some of the timeline of events were worth reviewing. I realized how little I attention I paid to pop culture from the late '80's to the late '90's. Not much use beyond this. Doesn't even make a good coffee table book due to its stark orange cover. Will be resold I'm sure.

We used the 80's section during our college radio show. Its like a VH1 clip show you have to read.

I read the 90s version. I think this book made me finally realize how long ago the 90s were and will break me of the habit of thinking the 90s were 10 years ago.
