The Straw Hats are keeping the Officer Agents preoccupied while Vivi makes her way to the palace. Sanji's got his hands full with Mr. 2 Bon Clay while Zolo battles mano a mano with Mr. 1--or rather sword to sword body in this case! That leaves Nami on her own with Ms. Doublefinger--a prickly predicament with only her wits and Usopp's special weapon to depend on. Can the Straw Hats prevail against the best of the Baroque Works?!
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

Nami is a genius, Zoro is a badass and everyone in this volume managed to proceed and they managed to exceed their limitations, both for themselves and for the sake of Vivi. For their friends and because that was the right thing to do. Also, please, let's all take a moment and appreciate how beautiful Robin looks in the cover of this volume. She looks sad and serious. She knows what's going on but she has to survive and so she does. I know, you wouldn't be able to tell if you are only reading it for the first time, but for people like me, well, just looking back and noticing small details like these feels good. Everything about this volume is too damn satisfying ❤️❤️
Not gonna lie. This is something that 15 year old me loved and I still do. Sanji, Nami and Zoro have their fights and oh, this is just pure Shonen. Fight, failure, development, overcoming obstacles and win. Formulas old as stories go but, damn it still works.
There is a great art style in the last few pages in Zoro's fight. When he is injured there are disturbed lines, see through art and oh, these few pages and panels in them are pure joy!
Remember when Nami used to fight major villains, and kick as much ass as every other Straw Hat? Ever since Enies Lobby she's been relegated to crowd control and support, which is a real shame. I hope we will get to see her take on a major villain before the story is done, because her fights are a lot of fun and, even though she remains important in her own way, it's still not nice for anyone to be sidelined as she has been.
Also, Zoro is the first character in the series to awaken Haki! Kind of. It's pretty clear Oda had no idea of the power at the time, and he seems to have forgotten this particular moment, which is a real missed opportunity. He could have tied Zoro's battle so much better into the grand scheme of things.
But speaking of grand scheme, I'm pretty sure he had Uranus and Poseidon all thought up even back when Pluton was first brought out. The very mention of that name was, I think, the point where One Piece kicked in a whole new gear and began to rise higher into global stakes. Great stuff.
One Piece, Vol. 21 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (187–195) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon continues the Arabasta Arc. Sanji and Mr. 2 Bon Clay exchange blows, until Bon Clay discovers the sea cook's weakness and he transforms to resemble Nami to distract him. Bon Clay dominates the fight, but Sanji is able to defeat him after exploiting Bon Clay's vulnerability when he transforms.
Meanwhile, Nami fights Miss Doublefinger, partner of Mr. 1, and a Devil Fruit user who can create spikes anywhere on her body, during which she struggles with how to use her new Climate Baton weapon. Unfortunately, most of that weapon's abilities are nothing more than magic tricks. One street further, Roronoa Zoro battles Mr. 1, who possesses the ability to create blades anywhere on his body.
Away from the fighting, Nefeltari Vivi reaches Chaka, the acting captain of the royal guard, but before they can stop the fighting, Crocodile and "Ms. All-Sunday" Nico Robin arrive.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part, it is written and illustrated rather well. The narrative continues the Arabasta Arc and details three main fights: Sanji vs. Mr. 2 Bon Clay, Nami vs. Miss Doublefinger, and Roronoa Zoro fights Mr. 1. All the while, Nefeltari Vivi reaches the Chaka, but is confronted by Crocodile and Ms. All-Sunday.
All in all, One Piece, Vol. 21 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
ALABASTA ARC - PART 4 1. sanji not being able to actually concentrate fighting nami is the first time i've gotten a fibre of slight annoyance. i don't think it's hard to overlook this!!! but then again...if i had to look at zoro....i would also stop and stare....oops
2. i'm not convinced on nami's fight with ms. double finger. i don't believe that she was able to do this mirage trick so quickly on the fly or that she didn't die sooner, or at all.
3. if zoro can carry an entire building, then surely he can carry me, right?
4. and also, the true mystery of it all is - zoro must have gone through mighty logopedics to be able to still talk so clearly with a hilt in his mouth.
A very action-packed volume that juggles both the perseverance and humourous qualities of these heroes. Among those who get their share of this volume's length is Sanji, Nami, and Zoro. While you can predict what happens to each of them in their respective battles, it's the "how" that remains the most fun element. Meanwhile, Luffy is missing, and Crocodile inches closer towards his monarchy.

I've noticed I don't absolutely love the volumes that are purely fight scenes, BUT I still loved this volume all the same. My girl Nami proved she's just as clever in a fight just much as when she's just going about her day. I love how she just keeps growing into her real self. Zoro also kicked major ass in this one, and he's so much closer to obtaining his goal of being the world's greatest swordsman.
Luckily I have the next volume ready to go because I am PUMPED to see Luffy come back and teach Crocodile a lesson.
I love seeing Zoro fight because he always gives his all to become a better swordsman and to protect his friends. This fight in particular gave me Kuma vibes and I don't even need to tell you how much I loved that arc for Zoro's growth.
And then there is the foreshadowing which I won't ever tire of saying that blows my mind. In this volume alone, we got Sanji fighting against Mr 2 (who uses the Okama Kenpo), and in the cover page of chapter 195 we got introduced to Camie, who will appear again in the Fishmen's Island arc.
This volume had three separate fights--which our team all won. Surprise, surprise. :) Nami's fight made me laugh with her misbehaving weapon. Sanji is a complete idiot when it comes to women as always, but I loved how his fight ended. And Zola leveled up in his skill.
Content notes: light swearing, violence, some major cleavage is shown when a character tries to use her feminine wiles to manipulate someone
(chapters 187-195: 4 stars) battles won by the straw hats from sanji, nami, and zoro. sanji seemed to be evenly matched but had more stamina and earned more respect from mr.2. usopp weaponized nami and i didn’t realize how talented he is up until this point; he’s a genius. zoro has reached a new level in his strength.
Please read the fighting of Zoro vs Mr.1 and Sanji vs Mr.2. They are the most important and interesting scenes for me. The member of Baroque works is so strong, they struggled to fight each other. The purpose of Crocodile became clear, it is about weapon. This weapon will happen after 30 minutes.
Finally I’ve grown to enjoy this Alabasta arc! 🙂↕️
It’s fun to see each character grapple to beat their perfectly matched baroque works opponent. Again, Bon Clay is so stupid. 😭 He is weirdly idealistic with sentiments of friendship yet he has no qualms being an agent for an obviously evil organization, overthrowing a once peaceful country and wreaking havoc. Idk what his deal is.
I also luv luv the face-off covers of Baroque Works vs Luffy’s crew in volumes 21 and 22. It’s so tough. 🖤
Again, another volume that's all go, go, go. I liked this a little more than the previous volume as we see a lot more of the individuals crew members take in separate enemies. However I do with at this point that they'd just get on with it and save the kingdom.
