Did I find this book accidentally because I typed Crescent City into my kindle expecting for SJM to appear? yup
Was I as disappointed as I knew I was going to be? yup

To be fair, it has a decent plot, the heroine is a detective investigating a series of connected crimes and the potential WAS there but it was actually the whole werewolf plot that didn't really work out for me. I found the hero quite cringe and not really the alpha male I was hoping for.
I get that with shifter romances there is supposed to be this insta-love/connection between the two characters (because soul mates) but I just didn't feel it :((

Werewolves Only is book one in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series by Carrie Pulkinen. I picked this one up as a freebie.

Luke is an Alpha, but to me he wasn’t Alpha enough. His anguish and issues just didn't work well. For him to take over the Alpha petition in the pack he has to marry a werewolf and he thinks Macey is human, so at the end he says he would leave his pack for Macey, but to me it wasn’t convincing enough.

I never found myself truly engaged in the characters and what was happening. I didn’t care for Luke or Macey. Luke kept leaving a lot of things out and not telling the full story to Macey.

Macey is portrayed as a strong woman who gives off confidence, but her issues contradicted this. I do get why she doesn't want to open up especially when two of the three people in her life are dead. It was frustrating how much she wavers.

The New Orleans setting was cool. I like that.

As for the hunt for the demons and stopping the killings, that didn’t make up for all the frustration in the romance department that I had. I expected more.

All and all Werewolves Only just didn't’ hit it off with me. It had its good and interesting things, but the romance and leads killed the novel for me. I don’t think I’ll be continuing on in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series.

3 Seriously Unenthusiastic Stars

Werewolves, a heroine who is a detective and gains clues from the dead, and an alpha werewolf as the hero, one that kicks demon ass – my first thought was yes please sign me up. But I never found myself truly engaged in the characters and what was happening.

Luke as the hero was just lacklustre, I seriously found him lacking – the heat, passion and focus I wanted from him just wasn’t there. He may be next in line to be alpha of his pack but he wasn’t the ideal alpha werewolf for me.

Luke's commitment and bond to Macey didn’t feel that tangible, if she hadn’t

Macey wasn’t too bad as a leading lady, but I don’t I just wasn’t enthused by either main characters.

When I first started reading this, it reminded me a tad of Cynthia Eden’s Moonlight and Blood series and one of her other books in which werewolves/Lycans fight/kill demons, but unlike Eden’s books this one, for me, lacked energy and sizzle.

My 3-star ratings are always on a spectrum and this book sits right on the margins, almost tipping to 2 stars of disinterest.

Some skim reading did occur just before the middle and then towards the end. I won’t be reading more from this series.

“The pack did its best to keep peace in the supernatural community and to keep their existence a secret from the humans. Psychics and witches may have found a way to coexist…exposing some of their powers to the mundane…but there was no way in hell people would be as accepting of a predatory species like his. He had to stop Macey from learning anything about the demons…and especially the werewolves. Keeping tabs on the sexy detective proved a nice bonus…”

Werewolves Only is the first book in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series by Carrie Pulkinen. It is a great paranormal romance- with shifters/werewolves, demons, supernatural elements, mystery, suspense, action, police investigation, and plenty of drama- all set against the vibrant and mystical backdrop of New Orleans.
Ms. Pulkinen is a ‘new-to-me’ author that I will definitely be reading much more of in the future. The story surprised me, because initially I thought it was a bit slow to start with, but I found that after a couple of chapters I was completely hooked and eagerly read the rest of the book. I had to find what happens and whether they figure everything out.
The story is told from several points of view, which I really appreciated, because it really gave the story much more complexity, and depth- and gave me so much more to contemplate.
The characters are interesting and well developed. I loved Luke and Macey!! I was cheering them on right from the get-go! There was a lot more to them, and the story, than meets the eye.
The story is quite suspenseful, with a real ‘mystery’ to try to unravel. There are funny moment- with witty quips/banter that made me smile. Then there were quite gruesome scenes that really ramped up the intensity of the story. Ms. Pulkinen effortlessly describes what was happening in the story, painting a picture in my mind, and making it more like ‘watching’ everything play out, instead of merely reading along.
I can’t wait to see what book two has in store for me!

Thank you, Ms. Pulkinen!

Gripping read.

This is a new Author for me and I've got to say I really enjoyed this book it kept me intrigued and gripped from the start.
Macey is detective in New Orleans who seems to have psychic abilities. But there is more to her than she herself realizes.
Luke is a wolf shifter who is next in line to be alpha and is following Macey on all her violent assault cases. They up developing feelings for each other only for Luke its doomed from the start as he needs to mate with a wolf shifter before he comes Alpha.
Fated love...secrets....paranormal goings on.

I have mixed feelings about this story. One the one hand, I liked the story and the demon possession angle, but on the other hand, Macey, as a character, drove me nuts. She had a tendency to be a defeatist and was self sabotaging her relationships. On top of that she just had an attitude that rubbed me the wrong way. If not for Luke, and a few other characters, this would have been a big fail Luke was very even keeled for a alpha protagonist. He was even tempered and fair, just an all round nice guy. Would have preferred he end up with Alexis, but maybe that’s just me?

If the series continues with Macey and Luke as the mcs then I think I’ll be giving this series a pass.

This was my first book author Carrie Pulkinen and most certainly will not be my last. I loved the paranormal world she created in this story. It intrigued me. I could not help myself as I flipped the pages and tried to piece the puzzle together right along with her characters.

This story is full of intriguing and unique paranormal characters that will keep you enthralled throughout the story. I loved the twists Carrie Pulkinen added to the wolf pack on their mating rituals and on who could shift and who could not. It added another layer to the world.

The only downside in this story for me is how the heroine Detective Macey Carpenter who was a phenomenal detective could be so hot and cold with her relationship with Luke. She could accept him as a shifter and then push him away as a man. It drove me nuts at times.

Luke Mason is destined to be the next future pack leader of the Crescent City Wolf Pack if only he could find his true mate. The issue is that he has fallen for an average woman. The intriguing Macey Carpenter. He realizes quickly that there is more to her than what meets the eye. She has a power that he must help her understand.

This is where I really loved the story. Macey and Luke made a great team and I cannot wait to see more of them in future books. They balance one another and complement each other nicely.

Book two in this series is sure to be just as fun as the first and there are a few characters that I am hoping we get to see in the next installment.

I've read another of Carrie Pulkinen's series, New Orleans Nocturnes, and realized I had this freebie TBR. I enjoyed it enough to grab the next two books. I like the H/h as well as the side characters, who I'm guessing will appear in future installments.

There were a couple nice twists to a familiar story. The werewolves in this series are demon hunters ... All a werewolf had to do was puncture the demon’s heart with a claw, and it was vanquished. Unfortunately, demons didn’t really die. They went to their own hellish dimension, where they waited for some other idiotic human to conjure them back. ... and work to keep the paranormal from being exposed to humans. Furthermore, of all the children born to werewolves, only the eldest offspring can shift; the other children can have abilities (psychic, empathic, etc) but are unable to shift.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really good book. I don't believe I had read Carrie Pulkinen before. I loved the story line and most of the characters. I couldn't stand Macey though. I get she had abandonment issues. But my goodness did she have to play it up so much?! Luke was willing to do anything for her. Including giving up everything he's ever known and his future for her. Her tough girl act got old quick too.
The whole werewolves vs demons was different but interesting to read about as well.

WEREWOLVES ONLY is the first book in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series. Each is a stand-alone romance featuring a couple in the Crescent City Wolf Pack in New Orleans.

Luke is everything I want in a man. He is strong, alpha, caring, decisive, protective, and a bit of a butt. (Why does anyone want someone who is perfect? Perfect people are egotistical and self-centered. I like a flaw.) Too often, things have to be spelled out in little words for him to get the big picture on the important things for his girl (men can be dense in the romance field), but his heart is always in the right place.

Macey is emotionally damaged, but intelligent and gifted. She has guarded her heart for so long, she doesn’t know if or when to drop the shields. It was a little maddening at times and I wanted to shake her, but remember Luke was being a butt (see previous paragraph!). As often happens, communication is the big lesson these two need to learn – we all need to learn – to grow as a couple.

I recently read A DEAL WITH DEATH and loved it. So, I was thrilled to be able to grab WEREWOLVES ONLY as a short-term Amazon free offer and read the beginning of this series. I was not disappointed. WEREWOLVES ONLY is a page-turner that kept me glued to my kindle. It is well written and wonderfully layered. The characters are beautiful and beautifully flawed. There is passion, compassion, good and evil, family, romance, friends, and community. This is a world, though imperfect, is one that I would want to call home.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

So I'm very split on this book. I loved the paranormal elements. The demons and werewolves were great. I liked the mystery and the action, there was enough suspense and intrigue to keep the story flowing.

The romance on the other hand was just so-so for me. There were certainly some lust between Luke and Macey, but the constant back-and-forth got tiresome. There were communication issues that made the issues between them seem bigger than they actually needed to be. I also felt like Macey's abandonment issues, while valid, were being over-blown to cause drama. I think I would have liked this story more if there was less relationship issues and the story focused more on the crimes.

Werewolves Only is set in New Orleans where Luck Mason is soon to become the Alpha of the Crescent City Wolf Pack when his father retires. Detective Masey Carpenter is working of a strange case where demons are rapping women and disappearing. Luck's Pack is working on the same case by eliminating the demons before they attack women.

He is drawn to Macey and when the touch it is electric and he can't resist her, as the demons get bolder and more dangerous for young women of the city. The mystery of the master calling the demons needs to be solved, a witch helps Macey develop her powers and her long lost sister comes to find her.

Werewolves Only has lots of action, mystery, misunderstandings and romance making it a great paranormal romance that I enjoyed greatly.

First of all, this should have a kilometer-long TW list. But I actively searched for one and I couldn’t find any. Not even on the author’s website. And this thing has major triggers. Body horror, pregnancy, suicide, blood, gore, injury, racism, all on page and all graphic. I guess I can add gaslighting because MMC would outright lie to fMC in order to keep the existence of the supernatural a secret. There’s rape and SA (one on page, but the aftermath of the others is detailed). And the way it’s presented made me feel the author was banalizing SA, and being disrespectful to the victims. There’s also ableism.
The detective fMC was very unprofessional, (I mean, who wears freaking flip-flops to a crime scene?), ableist and stupidly stubborn. And let’s not forget the way she shits on women who want to take more traditional roles in relationships just because “she needs no man”. She dives head on into very dangerous situations alone because she’s a “badass” (didn’t see that, just a stupidly stubborn woman), and can’t possibly accept help from anyone, not even her POLICE OFFICER partner, unless they’re female and force said help on her. God help the man who tried to aid her. I hated her more and more with every page.
MMC didn’t seem to care that much about his pack to make the whole “I can’t mate a non-were if I want to become alpha” believable. He seemed on the verge of walking away half of the time, and the other half he was annoyed with them for something. He also didn’t seem to do anything alpha-related or be very alpha-like at all. He never gave fMC all the information, he always told her some of it but never the whole thing. Yet he expected her to make a decision based on that incomplete information. And why on Earth didn’t the werewolves carry some type of blade? They’re hunting demons, they can’t shift in the city, and they need to cut the demon’s head off in order to destroy them. They were stupid, that’s the only explanation I can come up with.
The blatant racism of the werewolves against humans made absolutely no sense. Apparently, only the firstborns are shifters. So, if the majority of them are essentially humans, how exactly did they know when a person was a human or a non-shifter “werewolf”? Though, can you call them werewolves if they don’t change into wolves? I don’t think so. Apparently some of them had powers, but then again, so do witches, and according to the werewolves, those are human. There was also, apparently, some Fae, but they’re just mentioned a couple times and never explained. Demons have a distinct scent, why didn’t anything else have a scent? Then the author retconned the reader and mentioned at some point in the last third of the book that werewolves have a distinct scent that animals pick up, but wouldn’t that mean werewolves should be able to pick other weres from humans based on scent? In the very last chapter fMC’s sister mentions “we all smell like dog”, so, why exactly didn’t anyone know fMC was a werewolf? Not identifying the fMC immediately as non-human made the werewolves look very stupid, because not only did she have powers, MMC felt “werewolf energy” when he touched her. And let’s not forget the retcon at the end about the smell.
fMC takes the word of her sister, a woman who abandoned her, and she’s (supposedly) very mad with, over the word of the person she supposedly loves, without asking him of course, because otherwise we wouldn't have a stupid conflict that we didn't need in the first place, so she’s alone and can be attacked, and the plot can be dragged for some 10 more chapters. She thinks constantly about how she doesn’t trust anybody, how she doesn’t open up to people, but she tells everybody and their sister all kinds of personal stuff. It seems she doesn’t see it as “trusting” as long as she isn’t screwing them, because her problem is literally only with MMC. Her POVs were repetitive as hell, with all the constant reminders of how people had abandoned her, and how she wanted to be with MMC but wouldn’t because she would be devastated when he left her (after he told her several times he wasn’t going anywhere).
Finally, why is there a werewolf congress? Just to, once again, introduce some stupid and unnecessary conflict, because it’s mentioned to explain the reason MMC has a time limit on this mating thing, once more at the very end because they have to “ensure they performed the rituals to code”, whatever that means, and that’s it. The only thing they seemed to do is decide whether an alpha can retire, supervise ceremonies, and maybe approve of matings, but that hardly is important enough to need a congress. Or maybe just don’t name it “congress”.
To sum up, I hated it. I hated fMC, MMC was bland, and there were so many plot holes and continuity mistakes (like one page her dress is white, then a few pages later it’s emerald), that it felt like a chore to finish. But I have had too many DNFs lately, I didn’t want to have one more. I considered it several times though. The only positive thing I can say is that the writing style is not terrible, and I read it relatively fast.

I was excited to read this. The plot sounded interesting with the fmc being a human detective and the mmc a wolf. I was promised a thriller/mystery with a badass female lead and a swoon-worthy alpha…this is why I have trust issues.

Now it started off strong, but it became increasingly frustrating to read once the fmc and mmc got together (very very early on in the story I must add). There was non of that delicious slow burn or tension (or sexual chemistry for that matter) between them, and to top it off they were not likeable characters. There wasn’t an ounce of alpha vibes from Luke, and Macey…Jesus, where do I begin. She is the walking cliché “I don’t need a man because I’m an independent woman” pick me wannabe who constantly puts herself in dangerous situations like a dumbass, in what world would she make it to detective!!? I got so frustrated with her commitment issues towards Luke, like the girl loves the drama and I would feel sorry for Luke if he wasn’t such a one-dimensional character whose poor protection skills existed purely to prove the fmc can save herself and needs no man (or anyone for that matter). We get it already. You’re tough.

Then the whole thing with Luke’s past popping up out of nowhere and him finding out that his dead fiancé who he failed to “protect” (dramatised) was actually a drug smuggling cheater (because I guess it’s bad that the mmc had another life and was in love with someone else). How quickly he got over it and his “ah well, we can’t dwell on the past” attitude was honestly so stupid. That whole scene added nothing to the story, and it being Carey’s long-lost sister who happened to witness this and tell him the truth had me eye-rolling so hard my head hurt.

Then throw in a half demon r*pist on a mission to build a demonic army by impregnating human women and you have the clusterfuck that is this book. I feel like the author got lost in trying to create a unique system within the supernatural world, in particular the part about only the first born can shift but everyone else has powers (this doesn’t make sense when witches exist in this world) she failed to write a half decent story and managed to create a confusing magic system that made absolutely no sense.

PLEASE NOTE: I had to go back and double check but there is NO trigger warnings whatsoever at the beginning of this book!!! There is r*pe and mentions of SA in at least one page that I can remember, plus the victims questioned by the fmc is descriptive. It did not sit right with me the way the SA victims were used as merely a plot for the story. There is also gore, violence and mentions of mental health.

Will not be reading any other books by this author.

Detective Macey Carpenter ducked under the crime scene tape and sniffed the scents on the air. There had been seven sexual assaults in 3 weeks; each victim had described a different yet similar attacker. But this time, the victim was wrapped in a blanket, and her attacker was dead with three slashes down his chest. Macey walked over to the victim, Amy, and asked her to repeat the story. Amy was angry that no one would believe her, but Macey assured her she had tracked this “thing” for weeks and would definitely believe what Amy said.

Luke Mason entered the pub. Chase had already set his beer on the counter for him, then poured another when Luke quickly downed the first. Then he went to the office to question James on the incident that evening where he killed what seemed like a human. The others had all turned to ash when he killed them in defense of the woman each had attacked. But this one stayed in human form. It had red eyes and the scent of a demon, though, when he had killed it. Luke and James went back to the scene and watched as Macey sniffed at the blood… but the blood was actually ash. That proved James had told the truth – that was not a human he killed. Luke headed toward his truck and looked up to see red demon eyes glaring at him.

Jimmy sat alone on the cabin’s porch in the swamp, waiting for his half-demon brother, Ross. Ross was late coming back and Jimmy didn’t want to do the demon ceremony alone. He knew he would get something wrong, and he couldn’t control the demons. But where was Ross? Then he heard Ross talk to him. He looked around and told Ross he couldn’t see him. Ross responded, “Of course you can’t, dimwit. I’m dead.”

With Luke and Macey both looking for the source of the demon infestation, it was inevitable they would meet each other. Could they work together on this? Could Luke fight his attraction to the strong woman he had been watching as she investigated these attacks for the past three weeks? Pack law said he could only mate a werewolf – so he had to stay away, didn’t he?

This was a great story, filled with mystery and tension as the police and werewolves tried to stop the demons. With the complication of Luke’s attraction to Macey, and Macey’s “secret”, there is plenty more action on its way! Don’t miss this captivating story!

Werewolves Only (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 1)
By: Carrie Pulkinen
5 out of 5 stars

The story Werewolves Only (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen is a paranormal romance book. It quickly grabbed my interest and I found myself lost in the pages. I absolutely love paranormal romance books and this story is a wonderful example of why. It takes you on a journey that includes action, werewolves, demons, and romance. It is the perfect combination that kept me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. I loved reading about the characters of Detective Macey Carpenter and Luke Mason. Macey is a woman who is tough, strong, and independent. If you ask Luke he would also call her kind, caring, and beautiful. She is working on a case that not only is hard to solve but some of what she finds at the crime scene is unexplainable. Luke is a man that knows what he wants. The position as alpha in the pack and also Macey. He needs a mate in order to become Alpha. He finds himself willing to risk everything in order to be with Macey. When these two meet there is flirting going on and both feel an attraction for each other. There seems to be an instant chemistry between them that can’t be denied. As the horrible attacks that have been happening in the city go on Macey is determined to find out who is behind them. Luke is protective of Macey and will do anything to make sure that she is safe. How much danger is Macey in as she investigates the attacks? How far will Luke go to protect her? As she spends time with Luke, the walls that Macey put up around her heart start to come down. Both Luke and Macey have secrets that they keep. What would happen if these secrets are revealed? What does the future hold for Luke and Macey? Will they get an HEA? Will Macey be able to put her trust in Luke? Read this story to find out. There are many other characters that you are introduced to and most of them are supportive to Luke and Macey. I enjoyed reading about the interactions between them. There are also characters that have their own agenda and evil plans. Will those plans be stopped? This is a well-written page-turning story that I would highly recommend reading. It is the first book in a series and I look forward to reading the next story.

Werewolves only By Carrie Pulkin is the first book in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series. This is a great example of a werewolf legacy with a twist that will keep you hooked.
Luke has always known his fate is to become the Alpha of the Crescent City Werewolf pack. It is a position he is ready for and is willing to undertake. However, before he can take up his mantel he has to put a stop to the demon infestation threatening to take over his home. This is with the added complication of the police detective, Macey, who is trying to bring down the killer terrorising her city.
Luke knows he has to steer her away from the truth. But how can he do that when he falls for her hard? And in doing so he risks so much more than her finding out the truth – he risks his own leadership. In order to become the alpha Luke has to mate with another werewolf. If he doesn’t then he forfeits his right to be the alpha.
Luke has to figure out how to navigate between his feelings and his duty. Can he reconcile the two? Or will he have to sacrifice one for the other?

I enjoyed this book and the overall story of it. I struggled a little bit with Macey, I thought there were times that her character came across as quite abrasive, although this was understandable given her backstory. However the few shortcomings I found with her were more than made up by Luke. I loved everything about him. He was portrayed so well that for me he entirely made this story. Trying to decide between what his heart wants and his family loyalties kept the book interesting. This is a new author for me and I found the flow of her writing to be constant and well thought through. I am looking forward to seeing what else this series has to offer.

Werewolves Only is the first book in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series. This book can be read as a standalone. I really liked this story. It had me interested from the start and kept a good pace throughout. The characters were well written and entertaining. Werewolves Only has a good mix of action, drama, and romance so it has a nice flow to it. The villain angle was pretty compelling, reminding us that appearances can be deceiving.

Demons are turning up all over the city creating chaos. Women are being attacked and but the evidence is less than stellar and Detective Macey Carpenter is having a difficult time running down the culprit. Not knowing that demons are involved, she doesn’t have all of the information she needs to solve the crimes. Even her unique way of solving most cases isn’t helping her this time.

Luke is next in line to be Alpha of the local werewolf pack, but he has been so focused on keeping the cops from discovering the demons that he hasn’t had time to address the issue of finding a mate. In order to take his place as Alpha, he has to be mated to another werewolf. The only problem is, the more time he spends tailing Detective Carpenter, the more he feels drawn to her. Unfortunately, she’s only human and would never be able to be his chosen mate.

Between the violent crimes, a restless werewolf pack, and past trauma it seems like everything is working against Luke and Macey. Do they love each other enough to fight for their relationship?

Werewolves Only (Crescent City Wolf Pack, #1) by Carrie Pulkinen
4 out of 5 stars

Werewolves only is the first book in the Crescent City Wolf pack and the first book by this author that I have read by this author. The characters are great with lit quirks that make them seem real. The plot was great and the description this author gave you a great that I was able to see the scenes in my head.
Detective Macey Carpenter has been on the trail of a vicious attacker for weeks, with nothing more than a vague description of a red-eyed man to go on. She has no clue she’s hunting demons, and if the evidence doesn’t stop disappearing, she’ll never solve the case.
Before Luke Mason can become alpha of the Crescent City Wolf Pack, he has to end the French Quarter’s demon infestation and keep the police from discovering the truth. But when he falls head over tail for the feisty detective investigating the crimes, supernatural secrets aren’t the only things at stake.
But the Wolf pack has rules/laws will Luke break them For Macey because he has to mate with another werewolf or he’ll sacrifice his position as alpha. But as heat builds between the pair, he discovers Macey has a few secrets of her own. She may hold the key to ridding New Orleans of its demons, but his feelings for her could tear the pack apart.
This was a great read and I’m getting ready Beneath the blue moon book two in this series….

Werewolves Only (Crescent City Wolf Pack, #1) by Carrie Pulkinen was a wicket, action packed, steamy read that had my hooked from start to finish.

My first read by this author, I was drawn in by the cover, the synopsis and the raving reviews. I was not disappointed in the slightest! It's been awhile since I've read a good entertaining paranormal shifter romance. This had everything that I love, strong kickass heroine, sexy not so alpha, but very alpha male, mystery, action, epic fights and a slow burn romance that felt real and believable.

I will say that, I did get a little frustrated with Macey towards the end, nothing base on her performed as a MC, but with her standoffness and pushing Luke away. Girl did not know how to listen to her heart, and that leading on, and what not, god, I was getting mad. So happy she came to her senses.

Luke, for me stole the show. He was more the your typical alpha male. He was willing to move heave and hell for Macey. He never force her, and was willing to go agents everything just to show her how much he loved her. It was a nice change from the pushy alphas that plagues the romance world.

Overall I loved everything about this book and I can't wait to dive into the next. If you haven't guessed I give this book my stamp of approval and my super high recommendation.

Happy Reading

Werewolves Only by Carrie Pulkinen
4 Stars

This was a great paranormal book. It involved werewolves, witches, demons and ghosts. It is the first book I have read from this author and I really enjoyed it.

Detective Macey Carpenter is a tough no nonsense type of person. She has the highest amount of solved cases but this one has her running around in circles. She’s chasing a serial rapist whose only description is having red eyes. Never in her wildest imagination did she think it was demons.

Like Mason is to become alpha of the Crescent City Wolf Pack. First he needs to rid New Orleans of the demon infestation then he needs to find a mate. As he’s following Macey and destroying evidence in her case, he finds himself falling for her. To become alpha, he needs to mate with another werewolf. His feelings for Macey might destroy his pack.

I liked the characters a lot. Luke is gorgeous, strong, muscular and a nice guy. Macey is cute, petite and a strong female lead. She just frustrated me with her constant flip flopping between whether to be with Luke or not. I got that she had abandonment issues but it was a little too much. I liked the secondary characters as well. I’m hoping to see other books about Bryce and Macey’s sister or learn more about Chase and his love interest.

A great read about danger. the French Quarter has been struck by a series of mysterious rapes and attacks. Hot on the trail is Detective Macey Carpenter, who uses special abilities to solve crimes. When she meets werewolf Luke Mason at a bar, she thinks it is just a date. But events beyond their control unite them as the attacks continue. Will they be able to stop the attacker before it's too late?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn't put down. Well developed characters like Macey standing up for herself but avoiding a broken heart or Luke jovial personality but kind nature underneath.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like the storm and trees or the garden or swamp full of natural imagery to make the world around them seem spectacular. Or the use of scents and sounds as if you were actually there which was beautifully written.
I loved the use of fantasy with the werewolves as a big family with their own rules and laws existing the real world. The use of different powers and variety of mystical creatures from fantasy was spellbinding each time and a lovely addition to the novel.
The mix with realism of crime scenes and morgues was beautifully done and made for a captivating read. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

I give Werewolves Only (Crescent City Wolf Pack Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen, 5 stars.

Detective Macey Carpenter is on the case of a series of vicious murders. The more she sees, the more unreal it all seems. This leads her to meeting Luke Mason. He is next in line for alpha of his pack. But before he accepts the role, he must find a mate. More specifically, a werewolf mate. But once he meets Detective Carpenter, he cannot think of another woman. What will do? Is there anything that can be done? And who or what is causing these horrific murders?

This is a paranormal romance with plenty of suspense thrown in. There are many things going on in this book, it will keep you reading no matter what genre you most enjoy. Plenty of the supernatural too, werewolves, demons, witches. I really enjoyed this story. The main characters were great and the story was so riveting. Not just the romance of the two main characters, but Macey trying to solve the murder, and Luke trying to do what he can to become alpha of his pack but stay true to himself.

If you like paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and/or suspense novels, this book is for you.

Werewolves Only is a paranormal romance book from author Carrie Pulkinen. This is my first read from this author and I can’t wait to see what else she brings to this series. This book is written with a lot of detail that makes it completely mentally visual, as though I was along there entwined into the story itself.

This book was action packed, suspenseful, fast-paced and thrilling, it has romance, passion & sexiness. This is an amazing read that hooks you in from the begging god and brings you on this amazing rollercoaster of a ride with some incredible characters like Macey & Luke. We are given twists and turns throughout that keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what could happen next.

Macey & Luke have an amazing chemistry- but is their connection strong enough to last the inevitable, of them not being allowed to be together because Macey is a human, or will Luke realise that everything he wants is with Macey and will do anything to keep her.

This is an incredibly captivating and compelling read filled with paranormal, romance and just incredible brilliant storylines and characters. I can't wait to see what else comes from this series and from this author.

Werewolves Only is the first novel in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series by Carrie Pulkinen. This is my first novel by this author.

Detective Macey Carpenter is on the trail on monster who has been assaulting women. Each case leaves nothing to go until she gets a break with evidence. Thought she doesn’t know she is hunting demons, she has a secrets of her own.

Luke Mason is the son of the Alpha. With his father retiring, he’ll step into the role. There’s only one problem: he has to find a mate.

While investing the same crimes and talks of demons with red eyes, he meets Macey and has an instant attraction to her. Over time of getting to know her, he starts to fall for her but she doesn’t know he is werewolf.

Will she be accepting when she find out? Will they able to solve the case.

I really enjoyed this novel. It was easy to read and follow and I was engrossed in the mystery of what was going on as well as Macey’s special ability.

With the ending, I look forward to seeing Macey and Luke again in some way.

This is a really good beginning for a new series. I love that it is set in New Orleans and not only does it have shifters, there are witches, demons, a voodoo priestess and a slightly different set of rules for the werewolves. Macey is a NOPD detective and is working on a serial rapist case. Luke is the son of the werewolf alpha and is in line to take over very shortly. The werewolves protect the city from demons and someone has been summoning them. I was impressed with Macey's work ethic, but when it comes to her personal life, she is pitiful. I personally thought that she was wishy-washy in her dealings with Luke. I also thought Luke would have been better if he had told her the whole truth so she could make an informed decision about the future. I wasn't sure if I like Alexis in the beginning, but I loved her to death by the end. Definitely worth reading. I volunteered to read an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
