I wanted to like this as it's been about a month since I really enjoyed a gamelit, but I had to throw in the towel at the 62% mark.

Plot - 3/10, Character - 5/10, Setting/Magic - 5/10, Writing - 5/10, Enjoyment - 3/10

This story started with a great premise: an orphan girl in a game-like world with levels and skills finally unlocks her class. With help from a moldy grimoire she found somewhere the story doesn't go too deeply into, she tries to set the stage for acquiring a Necromancer class by sitting in a ritual circle while classing up. She instead gains a mish-mash Saintess/Necromancer class that the system struggles to merge, resulting in a mix of holy skeleton skills.

The catch is that in this world, a Saintess is nothing but a slave for the church and as soon as she obtains her class, she is forcibly summoned to the church. As the only class capable of summoning Heroes (people from other worlds who end up with incredible abilities), a Saintess is power-leveled by a paladin and then locked away, repeatedly summoning Heroes that the church uses as attack dogs.

It's a great setup, but unfortunately, the character just didn't do it for me. She regularly made questionable decisions as if they made sense and also seemed to know almost nothing about her own world. The result was a story that felt flimsy at best and mostly just an excuse to give the MC a variety of broken skills. Nothing ever felt earned and things just felt pretty nonsensical.

The plot really didn't go anywhere other than "gotta get away from the church" and just bounced from random location to random location, collecting tons of gold and items for zero effort along the way. There's already a lot of suspended disbelief with gamelit stories with levels and skills, but when you have a level 1 character kill something that's level 299 then we're just talking nonsense and undermining any attempt at having a credible system.

The writing was functional in the sense that scenes were fairly clear with minimal misunderstanding. The problem is that it was easy to be clear because it was so plain. It reminded me of reading a comic where the background in each panel was just blank space. The author also had an annoying tendency to describe events after they happened during fight scenes. A large stone shield intercepted the block, shattering it on contact. The shield shattered too, not from the block, but from Sofia’s punch; she had never ‘thrown’ the block, going forward with it instead. This sort of scene somewhat works in a visual medium, but it's not great when the reader is relying on the description to visualize the scene. You end up picturing a shield shattering from a stone block. Then reimagining the shield shattering from a punch because the author buried the lede. Everything seemed to lean on spectacle rather than stakes and ultimately just bored me.

I'm just going to end this here because the longer I type the more I dislike the book even though I've already dropped it. So onto something different!

I really liked this up until Alith came in. You would think my enjoyment would be increased once the story became about two friends travelling and exploring together, because that sounds so cute. But in execution, it became two women whose every conversation somehow ended up about each others tits, regardless of what they were discussing.

This story went over 100 pages being normal, and then as soon as there were two female characters it became all about their breasts, and the relationship between the characters always felt as shallow and forced. I ended up liking this story in spite of this, but this is a story where turning a bit of your brain off when reading is a requirement or else you will become incredibly frustrated at how depthless everything will regularly become after showing potential again and again throughout. If you can manage though, it is for the most part an enjoyable read that you will occasionally begin skimming when the two main characters talk to each other, because the author has apparently never heard two women speak to one another and guessed incredibly wrongly on what the favorite subject of conversation would be.

Book one

I'm just trying to help authors out by going through and dropping little reviews for the stories I read over on Royalroad. You will probably see a few reviews like this. It seems that a lot of my Royalroad reading list is now being published.

I thought this was cute and different from my normal reading list. Don't know if I will read book two.

Amazing

Very different and interesting story. MC has such a great view on the world, her choices are captivating. The world has a familiar and yet unexpected story.

There are so many problems but it's not that bad.

Let's highlight a few problems:

1. There's no plot. There's a general goal or an idea of where the story should go. But there's no plot. This is a common problem with web novels and fan fiction, aka the whole RoyalRoad website. And this is where this series is from. So, anyone going into this series or any similar series needs to understand this tiny little fact.

2. Along with no plot, you'll often have one trick pony or gimmicks that pushes the story along. This means that the writing is often mediocre. The setting or world building is questionable.

3. Continuing on, your characters are often very shallow and linear with little to no developments.

4. And lastly, it's usually choppy. Chapters aren't always planned properly. Story doesn't flow coherently. It's sometimes all over the place. Plot holes are not necessarily filled.

5. With that out of the way, the one of other things I hate about this book is the fight scenes. It's your typical western drawn out fight scenes. A zillion things are trying to happen within a few seconds, which clearly does not make any sense and pulls away from the immersion. You might've liked the 4 hours long Goku vs Frieza fight that's only supposedly 5 minutes. I don't. This means that every single line between Goku and Frieza would be a fraction of a second, zip zip zip.

It's also why western style fight scenes are one of my most hated kind of writing. These authors have no sense of time or how it works. They just try to be dramatic and all over the place, but it's just trash. I generally like the light novel kind of writing or the Japanese/Korean/Chinese fight scenes. They're usually short and to the point without unnecessary elaborative words.

So, #1 to 4 are the stuff you need to understand before you set your expectations. It should be low. #5 is my personal preference and fortunately, fight scenes aren't the main things in this book. It's here and there but it's not a major part, so I can give it a "pass".

So, these kind of web novels are generally just an "okay" read or at most, I liked it. And I'm in the middle of it. I'll give it 5/10 or 2.5/5. But since it's full stars only, I'm rounding down to 2.

That said, if you are into these kind of stories or your expectation is very low, you'll definitely rate it higher and enjoy it a lot more. I enjoyed it cause I listened to it while at work because I'm multitasking, so I'm not looking for something "good".

I enjoyed reading this book a lot more than I thought I would. The litrpg element of the story wasn’t throwing pages of stats at me to the point I glaze over my reading. I’ve noticed some stories can end up doing that in the genre.

I do have some gripes with this story. The protagonist ends up in her own head more than anything. Especially in the beginning for a good chunk of the story. To the point it made me wonder if she was selectively mute. There’s obvious reasons for it. If there’s not a lot of things for the protagonist to react to and take proactive actions or engagement, it can get boring. This was more an issue maybe half the book. Just up to when she meets her first companion.

I wasn’t into how disinterested and apathetic the protagonist was throughout the story either. The more I read, details came out to justify her attitude and reasoning for her actions. I personally wasn’t into it too much because it gave no sense of danger or consequence for her behavior. If the world is a joke, why should I care? That’s how I ended up feeling about the story at some parts.

I really love the Saint/Necromancer class combination into Saintomancer. It’s a bit of an odd name. It does grow on you. Some of the banter dialogue was funny too.

I wouldn’t recommend this story for everyone. If you’re into the litrpg or the summary appeals to you, then yes. My main two complaints are more my personal feelings over little details and in no way detracts from the story. It was enjoyable and I will definitely check out the sequel when it comes out.

The premise of this story (when the protagonist receives her class from the system, it breaks and mashes together the Saint class with the Necromancer class) appealed to me, but unfortunately, that was about all I really liked about the novel.

I think my main issues all traced back to amateurish writing. Some of the prose was a bit clunky. The protagonist’s backstory was presented poorly, which often robbed key moments of their emotional resonance. Sometimes, character skills were inadequately established, or plot points insufficiently foreshadowed, causing these ideas to feel like they popped in from nowhere. While the power of the characters steadily increased, I feel like there wasn’t a lot of actual character development. The plot felt meandering and haphazard, except in a few places where the author clearly had a long term plan but deliberately (and obviously) concealed it.

My interest in the story slowly tapered off until about the ⅔ mark, after which I didn’t much care and just slogged through to the end. I didn’t expect this novel to end in a particularly satisfying place (as it’s part of a litRPG series which as a category are infamous for having countless volumes), and sure enough, it basically just stopped with minimal plot resolution.

DNF'd at ~80%. Note this: the first few chapters are by far the best part of the book. It goes downhill—and fast.

1) Reads like fanfiction. Bad grammar at times, awkward sentences. The book is written in 3rd person, but doesn't commit to it; changes to the 'italic' first person all the time—even several times per paragraph. Personally, not my style.

2) Iffy world-building. The protagonist (and later, her companion) have internet-era-type knowledge in a pre-modern world. The world is big yet empty. The value of the currency is nonsensical.

3) Terrible banter. The protagonist is some blonde bombshell and her companion a plain Jane. Their joking around is insulting the other's appearance, which they do constantly—literally every conversation devolves into it. The narration needed to tell me it was funny because it couldn't show me, I suppose.

4) Story is meandering. Would be fine if it accomplished anything, like building up the world, or having good banter, but...

Hello:) My father recently found this book on audible while looking for a new litrpg to listen to and quickly fell in love with the series enough to show it off to me.I am absolutely enamored by the world and characters.while I cannot say the book is perfect (there are a few times where I could tell the author had forgotten what they had written in a previous chapter and restated things) as well as the fact that I listened to it on audible and that may have a different experience than reading, I am still in love with it! The premise is interesting, the world feels so big and the rules of it are fascinating, the characters can be a little silly but they are likable,I have made so much fan art of the characters you have no idea… overall good book-
keep up the good work Morn

fun

Young woman trying to become a necromancer accidentallyw also becomes the Saintess. The classes fuse. As the Saintess she is put under house arrest and power leveled to summon heroes to serve the church’s political ends. She escapes and is on the run from the church. She does everything she can to grow strong enough to stay free. She summons two heroes to help her and travels the world finding a lost city. She meets another Saintess that educates her on their roles.

It’s a fun well paced story. Excellent narration. Interesting magic system that is slowly being expanded. Please enjoy

Cute and fun

Sophia is amusing as a partial classer. Her split class gives her a lot of overpowered options and I love it. Pareth is sweet. I was surprised that Alitha went the way she did towards the end. The powerful not giving any information on the sneaky patron and last name had me agreeing with Sophia's frustration. I can see this becoming a mood boosting series for me. The tidbits that are suddenly thrown out didn't have a build up or context, and were mostly ignored, so that was my only issue with the story.

An interesting story that keeps building

At first I was enjoying this book on a fairly simple level of being amused by the strange situation the protagonist found herself in, and her attempts to change things. As it went on, however, more ideas and plot threads were dropped in, leading to a deeper interest. Some of them were resolved in this book, some no doubt reserved for the next.

The concept of a possibly broken RPG system response trying to generate a hybrid class is a new idea to me, and the author does a good job of exploring what results might come of it.

An interesting read with a slightly different perspective on leveling. I enjoyed the different writing style but on the audiobook side there were some oddities in the narration of the internal monologuing. I know it's a character's trait but sometimes the thoughts meandering off and the half written thoughts made things harder to follow. I think this is more an issue on my side but it is pretty different in comparison to other authors. Beyond that it's an interesting adventure and will continue on.

Very enjoyable

As the header says, I found this a very entertaining read. It is the first book I've seen to use this mix of abilities, and it is realised very well. It is well written with a nice slice of humour and action while avoiding the fault of a lot of other LitRPG books of throwing the stats at you so often to be distracting and even irritating at times. Overall, it's a book which I find easy to recommend.

I was 5 Hours and 16 min from finishing when I just had to give up no matter how much I wanted to like the book there was too many issues with it. The flow of the plot is just terrible. The characters are stale and feel 2 dimmensional. World building? Well there is none. The action doesn't feel real and neither does it feel like the character is ever in any real danger. It's all just talk about how dangerous it all is but the execution is terrible.

New author for me. I really enjoyed this, more than I expected. Will definitely be continuing this series 😁 It's fun, light-hearted in some areas while painfully real in others. My one beef is the utilization of the fade-to-black by the author. No, it has nothing to do with fan service, but information or things that could add to the story. I wanted to hear more about Eilith's trial! And whatever that dwarf told them 😢

Holy Deep Eclipse activate

This world is messed up nothing is happening the way a normal person should expect the protagonist is I’m quite sure is abit different to normal people has learn about her childhood and the forces influence her future growth.

The author is playing a dangerous game of shenanigans with the reader only time will tell if he actually has a plan or if this house of broken skills will work in the end.

It has the same problem that all books that started as serialized fiction does: there is no actual plot. The main character is absurdly powerful and absurdly lucky so they face no challenges, and the author lacks the skill to make the characters charming so they're not even fun to read while adventure.

Goes downhill fast

Only read 38% of the book before becoming very bored.

Book starts off interesting and funny. But soon we see a very boring storyline with a somewhat one trick pony attack that almost kills the main character every time.

I was so bored for most of the book I read after 10% of the book.

I hope you enjoy it more than I did.

Awesome Book

This book started out a bit slow for me, but boy, as I kept reading, the want to know what happens next became stronger. Pretty soon, I’m reading something that I’m glad I continued. The action, the characters, intrigued, Etc kept me hooked. Thank you for this well done offering.

OMFG, great book!

I've been struggling to find something to read, and this book fit the bill. It's a completely different take on the summoned hero trope, and I struggled to put the book down. Already looking forward to book 2.

Interesting concept

So this book has a few interesting concepts and they all work pretty well. This book was a little on the slow side with the MC and her companions stuck in various dungeons most of the time but it worked out fairly well.

A very fun book.

But it lacks direction. The characters are solid and the setting has potential but the story just meanders around. A bit more focus and this is an easy five star book.

I ended up being DNF at 33%

The narrator just wasn’t for me. The story seems pretty interesting, but the noise is that the narrator made were distracting.

The concept is really good, but I think I plan to read it on Kindle if I want to try again.

An interesting twist on the leveling system books.

Why have a normal class when you can have errors and 2 halves of different classes? This was an interesting and fun book to read. Can't wait to read the next book.

Awesome premise

I really enjoyed this. It got kind of slow in the middle but ended well. Awesome epilogue as well, all the major boxes checked. Character safe and resting, maintenance complete and future issues identified.
