This book has had a level of meta-commentary from the start — why do all romance stories end with the marriage? Why are there such pronounced similarities in the themes and tropes across all romance stories? We’re getting a peak into the machinery of the meta-commentary now, and it seems like the cowboy and Joan could start working together but could they ever escape the narrative loop they’re trapped in?

Love Everlasting #13 forces a hard question: Tom King asks whether we are actually building our own lives or just following a pre-approved cultural checklist.
