Captain Teeth Orders—giving them, writing them, signing for them, and taking them—fill a Captain’s life. I miss the days when I climbed under skirts while on land and climbed the ratlines after we weighed anchor. The black spot on my pirate heart is due to my failure to find my lady love despite scouring the Caribbean for years. I’ve watched me hearties fall in love and drop from the sweet trade like flies, but this voyage to drop off my Quartermaster with his new bride in Mexico may break me…
Sabrina Why shouldn’t I partake in the fancies of the human world when I sprout legs once a month? Swilling rum, dancing on tables, singing bawdy songs, and sampling every scallywag who catches my eye is harmless fun. I tell myself my behavior is entertainment…not to forget my soulmate who abandoned me five years ago at Maude’s Tavern. After a night of passion, he flipped a doubloon onto the sheets and sailed away. I can’t believe the scrouge of the seven seas mistook his lady love for a common strumpet! My kind mates for life so if I ever see him again, I’ll sink him and his ship. Nobody humiliates a Kraken.
Hooking Captain Teeth is an enemies-to-lovers, monster brides romance set in 1725, filled with pirate lingo and consensual spicy scenes between a pudding-headed human and his sea monster. This standalone romance is a spin-off of the Walk the Walk trilogy and a follow-up to Quartermaster of the Mortar & Pestle series.Monstrous grooms and beastly brides? Don't be afraid of falling in love... it's super-natural! Explore the entire Monster Brides series, one tantalizing happily-ever-after at a time!
Marilyn Barr currently resides in the wilds of Kentucky with her husband, son, and rescue cats. When engaging with the real world, she is collecting characters, empty coffee cups, and unused homeschool curricula. She is a sucker (haha) for cheesy horror movies, Italian food, punk music, black cats, & bad puns.
Looking for pirates that sound like pirates and a monstrous FMC? I’ve been loving monster romances where she’s the monster lately and absolutely had to pick this one up when I saw the cover. Came for the kraken, the pirates were a bonus. I am so glad I picked this up, I loved Sabrina and Teeth from the first page. Their banter was fun, the spicy scenes were delicious, and there was a fun plot weaving everything together. This also may have led me to lookin up how octopi mate because I got curious if there were similarities to that and some of the spice.
Talk about a page turner! The moment I started reading this, I did not put it down until I completed the whole book! I laughed, cried, and felt everything the main characters felt, especially Sabrina during her trial moments and wishing it would all end. I cannot wait to read her sister's story when it comes out!!
The smut was extremely well written 3/5! Not overly done but also not so little of it that you are questioning how things happen!.

If you think monster romance isn't a genre that authors do research for, you haven't read Marilyn Barr! She is doing the work, putting in the hours, and bringing us adventurous romances that are intelligent and fun.
Hooking Captain Teeth is a fun, smutty pirate/kraken romance, but also emotional, with a deeper commentary on accepting those who are different, or "other".
Sabrina is a wild, independent kraken who meets her match in Teeth, and equally wild, independent pirate. Can they have a happily-ever-after, or are their worlds too different ?.

Gleeful Goblin Review: I am an absolute sucker (no pun intended) for all things sea monstery but when you combine that with dashing pirate who is fated to said sea monster? SWOON. And the way that the author describes how these two interact and the....tension in their first real interaction shivered my timbers and ONLY GETS BETTER FROM HERE: “Which room is ours?” I don’t need to turn around to know it’s the handsome pirate behind me. My body ignites with the command in his question. “I’m in room one,” I say, verifying the key is labeled with the number one. He steps toward me with a palm outstretched for the key. “You are bunking in the bilge of some ship with the rest of the sea sludge.” He takes a predatory step forward. My back hits the bar. I clutch the key to my chest. It vibrates with the pounding of my heart—or maybe that’s the shaking of my fingers. Blond hair tickles my nose as he leans over me, one arm resting on the bar to either side of my waist. His scent invades my nose. Blue eyes bore into me with an intensity that curls my toes in my boots. “Tell me you don’t want me in your bed to pleásure you from head to toe and make your every fantasy come true, and I’ll disappear,” he whispers against my ear. The brush of his lips on my earlobe unravels me. My soul bond snaps from its cage in my heart and reaches for him. My fated mate stands before me. A once-in-a-lifetime connection and the promise of true love war in my head with my common sense. He’s not just a pirate, but a notoriously demonic pirate, sailing under a she-devil. For all my blustering, I’m afraid. This man will break my heart when he chooses piracy over life under the sea with me. Why would a man like him commit to a quiet life? I should save myself the agony of tying my soul to a ruffian and losing him to the sweet trade or worse. The word ‘no’ will save my heart and soul. “Stay with me,” I whisper as tears gather in my eyes."
This kind of zesty tension starts early and keeps on burnin' throughout the book and I can't get enough. This author always brings fun, new twists to their work and keeps me coming back for more. In this book one of the things that stood out to me is that our FMC is a Kraken and in this universe Krakens function almost like a reverse werewolf type of way because Krakens are only able to shift into human form one day per month. That limitation creates some engaging and fascinating story tension when you have fated mates from very different worlds, both literally and figuratively. If you pick this book up be prepared for it to grab ahold of you and never let go! 5/5 Stars.

3.5 stars. Sabrina, the female kraken lead, is having fun on her once-a-month human form day. Going to play with humans at the tavern, she’s shocked to find herself picking up her human mate, Teeth, the male lead. Excited, she’s thrilled to find him offering her sweet promises as they have an intimate night, and then devastated the next morning when he waves them off as blandishments to enhance their experience. Furious, Sabrina returns to the ocean and gently plagues Teeth’s pirate ship for the next several years.
Teeth, meanwhile, has progressed from sailor to captain and, when a fortune teller tells him he’s already met and missed his mate, he’s despondent. Drunk one night, he topples into the ocean and Sabrina is left to save him. Returning him to land and planning to meet him later, she finds herself captured as a freak and carried off to be put on display by despicable men.
When Teeth can’t find Sabrina, he goes searching but it’s only when her sister finds her and tells him that he’s able to execute a rescue. But now Sabrina has experienced serious trauma that leaves her scared of humans. How can they be together?
This novella is dual POV, well written, and a darker historical fantasy romance. I’ve only given it 3.5 stars because the interactions that leave Sabrina with trauma are not my speed. They are totally appropriate for time and place and characters, and the author’s content warnings at the beginning are accurate, but they don’t suit me. I adore the concept of this series, with the female monsters and male humans as lead characters. I enjoyed the insight into Sabrina’s mind and the hopes and expectations she had for her mate. I appreciated the way both lead characters had to mature before they could attempt a successful relationship. I enjoyed that both lead characters were sex positive and that Sabrina’s interest and experience were seen as a bonus by Teeth. I enjoyed Teeth’s compassion for Sabrina at the end of the story, and the way he actively thought about the consequences of his choice for the pair of them and what they both wanted for the future. I enjoyed the contrast of Sabrina and Teeth’s relationship contrasted with Sabrina’s sister’s experience, and the clever set up for the next story in the series.

3⭐️ 3🌶️(3 because of Monster parts but really a 2 for me) MOOD: adventurous, sad, tense TROPES: second chance, fated mates GENRES: historical romance, monster romance
MAIN CHARACTERS: Sabrina (Kraken) and Captian Teeth (Human)
This one wasn't for me. It could be that I didn't realize it was part of a larger established Universe so I didn't know Teeth had already been introduced and this was a book that fans were waiting for but I'm not sure. I was really looking forward to a female Kraken; I enjoy Kraken/Monster stories with some of my favs being Stalked by the Kraken, Tentacles & Triatholons, and The Sea Monster's Mate. I bring this up so you know that this isn't unfamiliar territory for me.
That being said. What was disappointing was the story arc. I really wanted to see a strong FMC, especially a Kraken and that's just not what was delivered. Combined with the oddly too specific Octupus anatomy sex scenes and the fairly abrupt ending I was just left wanting more. By no means was this bad and I think if you are already a fan of this author and this world then you will enjoy it but I think I'll sit this one out.
Also, I finally discovered some descriptive words that don't do it for me which is a feat in and of itself cause I will read anything once, but dairy & marriage box/pocket apparently are a hard no for me :D
CW: provided by the author: kidnapping, sexual assault, exploitation in an old-timey sideshow DISCLAIMER: I received an advance review copy. This is my honest review.
Sabrina, a kraken, finds her soulmate on her once a month human form night, only for him to abandon her in the morning. Captain Teeth, the notorious pirate and scoundrel, won't be tied down by any mistress but the sea. Five years later, he laments his lack of love to the open sea and falls overboard. Sabrina, who hasn't been able to keep her distance, rescues him. Teeth feels more than curiosity for his tentacled savior, and they make plans to meet when she can be on land. However, unbeknownst to Teeth, she is captured and put in a freak show. Only a chance encounter with her sister gives Sabs hope because Teeth will not rest until she is safe. But Teeth has a decision to make if he saves Sabs: the land or the sea?
So Sabrina is the tabletop dancing bawdry tavern girl we would all probably be if we were only human once a month. Teeth is the pirate willing to give up his title for a chance at love. When the two collide, it's sparks. Even their five-years-later second chance reignited that passion instantly. Little did Teeth know that the fortune teller was right all along. I love how he puts her first every time: her comfort, care, and choices. He defaults to her happiness before his own. No matter which path their love story took them on, it would have been a happily ever after. But their story had the best ending to start their lives together.

Marilyn. Barr. Ma’am. How dare you? You gave us monster smut, edge-of-the-seat action to the point where I actually had to tell my kids I was reading a book and I was at the point where the pirates were saving everyone so STOP TALKING because I could NOT divide my attention. It was so freaking historically accurate AND riveting AND I love Sabrina. And Teeth. Oh MY GOSH. What you did to my heart during this book.
Thank goodness you fixed it. But still. I would be lying if I said I didn’t read this book with one hand clutched over my heart for like... 40%. THE BATTLE SCENES ARE EPIC! I love all the side characters and I’m so freaking excited there’s a sequel. Oh. And the smut. At the end. You know the part I’m talking about. I love this book, but I’m really glad I’m done reading it. I don’t think I took a full breath for two hours.

A gritty pirate and a sassy kraken walk into a tavern… lol
Hooking Captain Teeth by Marilyn Barr was a hilarious and sweet/spicy read! I couldn’t put it down— I read it in one sitting because I just had to know what happened next. I bought this book from her table at a book signing event and you can say… I’m hooked. Lol okay enough dad jokes from me now I promise 🤣
Sabrina is a Kraken looking for a good time every month when she sprouts legs then walks in Captain Teeth also looking for a good time. Little do they know that Sabrina is a kraken who terrorizes the seas the rest of the month and Teeth is a surly captain that is too drunk to remember much of their night together.
Tropes/vibes: 🏴☠️ Enemies to lovers 🐙 Pirates 🏴☠️ Monster romance 🐙 Talks of religion 🏴☠️ Fated mates 🐙 Action-packed ending
have had a crush on Captain Teeth since he was first introduced and have been anxiously awaiting his story. But, who could possibly steal the heart of this scoundrel times ten? Enter a beautiful red-haired Kracken with a checkered past of her own. Perfect match! This book showcases Marilyn’s witty dialogue and action-packed scenes. The very best part—Teeth and Chub’s delicious bromance. I could read about their adventures forever. I am not a Monster Romance reader, however, I love a good pirate romance. This book delivers. I recommend reading the trigger warnings for this one.
🔸️Entertaining romance settled in XVIII Carribean. FMC is a strong, shameless she-kraken. MMC is a bit arrogant, scoundrel pirate. Together they create quite a wild pair. 😬😉 🔸️The spice is hot and steamy with some unusual solutions. 🔸️ The world building includes maby side characters known from different stories. Even if you haven't read it, you won't have any problems with following. 🔸️Well written. Fun and light to read. For all fans of lady monsters stories.

Sabrina is a kraken who is able to transform into a human once a month. She amuses herself with debauchery much to the dismay of her sister. During one of her trips to dry land she meets Teeth and figures out he is her mate. After a night together he runs out on her after thinking she is a prostitute. They don’t meet again for five years.
Overall I enjoyed the story and I love pirates and monsters so having a book with both made it an easy choice to read.

This was a fun and cute story! I just loved the characters so much! It's a shorter book, so a faster reader can read it in two to three hours easily. I usually don't like pirate books, but the description sounded like I might like it. I'm really glad I did because I smiled throughout a good bit of the book. There are some darker moments in it, so be sure to read the trigger warnings if you have any. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a spicy, pirate fantasy romance. I got this as an ARC from Booksprouts. These thoughts and opinions are my own.
Swash buckling original fated mate story. Plenty of pirate talk, steamy and action. Sabrina, kraken, is smitten by her fated mate the first time she saw him. He mistakes her for a working girl. Teeth is muddle-headed human pirate and doesn't recognize his true love at first. Searching for years, he finally finally her. Being fated mates doesn't make being together easy, there's choices that needs to be made.

I have loved Teeth in the other books set in this world so I was really excited to see how his storyline unfolded and it did not disappoint. The supernatural pirate world that the book is set in is compelling and drags the reader deeper into the storyline and in this case deeper out to sea. I loved the characters. It was nice to see familiar characters from previous books but also to meet new characters. Bettina is a fire cracker underneath it all and I’m excited to see where her next adventure leads her.

11/10! Loved this book, the way krakens worked and the Ariel x Captain Hook inspiration for this novel was just chefs kiss, I adored the relationships between the characters and how even though it was a fated mates' situation there was still the lovers to enemies to lovers' plot! I would totally recommend this book to any fantasy monster lovers, especially lovers of the FMC being the monster!

This was such a fun and witty monster romance and I love that our monster is the FMC, Sabrina. Gotta love a gal with tentacles ;P She was wild and outgoing. Captain Teeth was equally wild and independent. These two! Expect a well written and engaging romance with epic action scenes, humour, and hot spice for a pirate and his she-kraken as they work their way to an HEA. So fun and I can't wait for the next book :D
Sabrina is a human once a month she’s a kraken and let’s just say that once a month she plays and plays hard her sister is always telling her off about waiting for her mate but Sabrina just shrugs her shoulders if she meets him in the pub then good, she does meet him he’s a pirate captain a demon and he’s purple at that. There is so much more going on in this fantastic story I loved it and the characters and I highly recommend this book.
Captain Teeth longs for his fated mate, but what if he has already met her and offended her? Sabrina was looking forward to meeting her man, until he didn't even recognise her. Now she might like some revenge, or does she? I loved Sabrina and Teeth's story, their banter, passion and the humour in their story.

Teeth and Sabrina meet in a tavern - after a night of bliss, he steals away, humiliating Sabrina. Love turns to animosity, but after all they go through, can they find happily ever after? This was my introduction to Captain Teeth and his crew of scallywags, but it won’t be my last! I enjoyed Sabrina and Teeth’s unconventional courtship (Teeth was such a maniac!) and the rest of the crew were a hoot! A fun read.
Hooking Captain Teeth is a stand-alone novel by Marilyn Barr in the multi-author Monster Brides Romance series. I have to say I absolutely loved this book because it was so unique. It is rather dark in parts and Teeth was rather lucky he didn’t end up sleeping in Davey Jones Locker.

This was such a fun and spicy read. I especially love the scene right at the end. This book contains some characters from previous books in the same world but I was able to follow the story without any confusion.
