April May is finally making good on her promise to her assistant Jennifer to take her on a trip to New Orleans. While there, April discovers a dead body and finds herself on the wrong side of the law and the underworld.
Karen Sue Walker is a lover of cozy mysteries, from Agatha Christie to Joanne Fluke. When not working or writing, she spends time with her very talented daughter and ever so fun granddaughter.
I received this book as an ARC and so glad I did. I was thoroughly entertained from the very beginning until the last page. Even with a new location ghosts find April and ask her for help with finding their murderer. It kept me guessing until the end. I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good read.
I absolutely love this series set in a tea room in Serenity Cove, California. SereniTea Tearooms is based in a Victorian house, owned, and run by April May and her assistant Jennifer. April May has a gift, she can see and hear ghosts, which makes for some interesting conversation! April May is dating local Sheriff Andrew Fontana.
April May helps ghosts pass over by solving why they're being held in this 'life'. Most recently, it's because the person was murdered and needed help accepting who killed them so they can pass over.
Jennifer knows of her boss's 'gift' and helps solve the murders. Of course, when it comes to getting justice and dealing with the police, it takes some fast talking!
Her recent 'ghosts' are Pearl and George, 1920s Vaudeville performers who haven't passed over yet. They are the bane of April May's life at the moment.
April May and Jennifer are taking a well-earned break to New Orleans, hoping that Pearl and George don't follow them. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen, and soon after they get to their hotel, Pearl brings April May another ghost who was recently murdered. Cedric needs help to firstly get someone to 'find' his body, report it to the police and solve his murder so he can pass on. At the centre of the mystery is the talisman he used to wear, which has gone missing!
This is the ninth book in this series, and whilst the books are all standalone mysteries, they are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline.
I can't wait for the next book in this series, which is a cross between cosy mystery and a ghost story.
April May and her assistant Jennifer are taking their long anticipated trip to New Orleans, hopefully without Pearl and George, April’s recently acquired ghosts. Despite every effort at a clandestine escape, their vacation doesn’t go according to plan and the spirit couple manage to hitch a ride with them all the way to The Big Easy. After enjoying the first day of vacation ghost free, April is awakened by Pearl and George who are bringing a visitor, Cedric LeBlanc, a newly arrived spirit in need of help. Another possible murder or accident to solve certainly isn’t conducive to a fun carefree vacation for the two women, but April’s lost souls are always persistent and hard to refuse. Set against the backdrop of Voodo City, with a missing talisman, some questionable friends, a supposed girlfriend and his recently returned sister, Cedric’s suspicious death is quite the puzzle. With surprising support from a local source, April ventures outside of the famous tourist areas into Cedric’s world searching for answers. Will she succeed? I really enjoyed this different setting for this fun paranormal mystery series, featuring new intriguing characters and lots of confusing leads. New Orleans is one of my favorite spots with great food, interesting tours, unique cocktails, traditional jazz at Preservation Hall and historic cemeteries, providing the perfect setting for April’s talents. Too bad there was so little time for April and Jennifer to enjoy all NOLA has to offer, but I am really craving some beignets.
April May owns the SereniTea Tearoom, in Serenity Cove, California. She has a unique ability to see ghosts and has Pearl and George as her resident tearoom ghosts. She also has a young assistant, Jennifer. Trying to keep a needed vacation with Jennifer to New Orleans from Pearl and George, they prepared for some fun and food. However, Pearl and George caught wind of the trip and went along. So, ready to have a good time, April May and Jennifer are ready to experience the town until Pearl and George find the dead body of Cedric and with Pearl and George's insistence as well as the ghost of Cedric asking her to please solve his murder and get his talisman that was stolen back. So much for a vacation! With so many twists and turns and a suspicious policeman, April and Jennifer investigate. This is a fun 9th book in the series and I highly recommend not only this book but the entire series. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions here are strictly my own.
April May and her friend and assistant Jennifer are excited about their planned trip to New Orleans. Trying to keep their trip a secret from their resident ghosts, Pearl and George is unsuccessful as they follow April and Jennifer on the plane all the way to New Orleans. Their vacation is cut short when Pearl and George bring another ghost to April, demanding that she solve his murder. How can she explain to the police that she knows a lot about the ghost victim having never met him while coming up with a convincing story of how she knows him. I love this series with April whose gifts seem to include solving murders and helping ghosts find their way into the light. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
April May and her assistant finally get to go out of CA for a bit of travel. Unfortunately, there are some ghosts that tag along... and they drag April May into all sorts of trouble once they arrive at their destination. This installment has a little heavier vibe to it than some of the others, but the descriptions are spot-on (made me hungry more than once!) and the atmosphere is wonderfully immersive. I was kept guessing for quite some time before the culprit was revealed; at one point I was utterly wrong and was happy to find out who actually "done it" by the end.
Love the recipes included in the book - they sound amazing!
If you're a cozy mystery lover, this is a book you don't want to miss. The best thing about this series is that they can all be read as standalones, so if a cliffhanger is your nemesis, you don't have to worry. A vacation trip to New Orleans turns out differently than planned. Fun paranormal mystery, new characters are introduced, and there are twists and turns you won't see coming. Wonderful yummy recipes included. A perfect read for this time of the year. Highly recommend (as I do all the others!)
This series is a favorite of mine! This time April May and Jennifer are off to New Orleans for a much needed vacation. What could possibly go wrong with these two? And of course, Pearl and George just have to come with! When Pearl and George bring new ghost George to April, things start getting interesting. How can April try to solve the murder and not let the police in on just what she knows or how she knows it? Love the New Orleans setting for this one!
April May and Jennifer are trying to sneak off on a well deserved vacation. As if New Orleans didn’t have enough of their own ghosts, unfortunately, Pearl and George get ‘wind’ of their plans and join them. Soon they are all involved in a recently departed ghost’s murder. A ghostly fun read, with more than a few characters that could be the murderer. I received an ARC from the author and this review is my honest opinion.
There's just no getting away from ghosts for April May! Even on holiday, somehow, they find her. But at the same time, does this mean that her purpose in life is to help them, rather than run her tea shop? Or as well as run her tea shop?
You cannot help but love these cozy mysteries; April and her friends are full of fun and the mysteries that they help solve, well intriguing. Good read as always!
Tea is for Talisman is much better than the previous book in this series I'm very pleased to say. I loved the New Orleans setting and it's made me want to go there on holiday! As for the food and drink I want red beans and rice and a French 75 right now😋😋😋 I can't wait for the next book.
