FROM EXCITING AUTHOR OF PARANORMAL WHY CHOOSE ROMANCE ELLEN MINT
Book ten in the Coven of Desire series
Layla must sacrifice everything she has to save everyone she loves.
Layla’s lost everything. Her home is gone, her men could all be dead, and Conquest has her. Everything’s gone to hell, literally. The Horseman’s broken down the barrier keeping the demons from breaking into the world. It’ll only be a matter of days before the rest of the universe goes with it.
If, somehow, Layla can escape from the clutches of the personification of Conquest, she’ll have to sacrifice herself to save the world. Whoever cuts off magic from Earth will have to die—that’s what Death told her. But what happens if she does? Will witches become normal women, or will they die? What about all the other creatures touched by magic? Those who’ve been banished to Earth and created new lives could lose if she succeeds.
Yet, she knows if she fails, billions will perish.
She’s been beaten, betrayed, but not broken. Even trapped in a dollhouse of her greatest enemy, Layla refuses to give in. She knows her guys are alive, and if she can escape from Conquest, she’ll give them hell for making her worry.
Ellen Mint adores the adorkable heroes who charm with their shy smiles and heroines that pack a punch. She recently won the Top Ten Handmaid's Challenge on Wattpad where hers was chosen by Margaret Atwood. Her books, Undercover Siren and Fever are available at Amazon as well as a short story in the Lucky Between The Sheets anthology. Married, she lives in Nebraska with her dog named after Granny Weatherwax. Her hobbies include gaming, painting, and halloween prop making. The basement is full of skeletons because they ran out of room in the closets.
“You don’t understand. A world without you in it is my hell. I would rather fall with you than live a million years without you.”
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THIS BOOK AND TO MEEEEE!!! We both came into the world on November 5th, so I couldn't pass up a chance to wish us both the happiest of birthdays. It's also very fitting that one of my ultimate fav series is ending on my birthday.
(We will ignore the fact that this was posted on the 6th, it was mostly ready on the 5th which is what counts ahem)
In the *FINAL* book in this epic series, Layla and her guys have to stop the world from ending once and for all, while everything is working against them. Will they make it out alive? Are more betrayals on the way? Will Ink finally say the three magic words? And what about the little life growing inside our favourite witch? All questions that will be answered when you read this lovely book.
I can't believe it's overrrrrrr. I'm literally sitting here, having followed this series since the start, and I don't know what to do with my life now that I have no more Coven of Desire books to look forward to.
Mint delivered on that ending though, we got to see everyone happy and thriving, the world changed for the better, AFTER putting us through a lot of stress, not being sure how things would go until the very last moment.
The most stressful part was Layla being held captive with her men unable to reach her. I kept rooting for a certain someone to save her, and wouldn't you know it...they did!!
I was mad at Daniel for a good chunk of the book, you know why. I forgive him now though, we're all good. That scene with him and Izzy at the end was so precious.
Speaking of precious...INK SAID I LOVE YOU, I REPEAT, HE SAID I LOVE YOU AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! It only took him 10 books and a few novellas, but HE. SAID. IT. I'm so happy. I could flyyyy.
But anyway, I was truly convinced the world was gonna end for a good second there, and the way they all worked together to fix it was just *chef's kiss*. We got to see the results of their efforts months and years down the line, which is almost like we got a few different epilogues in one.
Ellen Mint is so creative, I love the world she created so so much, I want to live inside it. PLEASE LET ME IN, I WILL BRING BURGERS OF CHEESE!!!
And the way she can bring humour to even the direst of situations, makes this series extra unique.
I laughed and cried with these characters over the years, and my only hope is that CoD gets super popular so everyone else can find as much joy in this amazing series as I did.
Pleaseeeee go and start CoD by reading Ink, I promise you'll have a banger of a time (and fall in love with the most fabulous incubus known to any realm, don't say I didn't warn you!!).
Oh, I liked that little nod to the novella that started it all too, by the way. And everyone's costumes, especially little Izzy's, she's so real for that.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go drown my sorrows in a salad of various greens one would feed to a giraffe. Sniff sniff. I'm going to miss Layla, Ink, Cal, Daniel, Garavel, Raul and now Izzy so much. In a just world, there would be an infinite number of Coven of Desire books, but the good part is, I can reread them anytime I want.
*Thank you to the author and StoryOrigin for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
The end is near. I am not going to lie, I hate to see this series end. I really enjoyed every book. Conquest finally got Layla. One of her guys betrayed her. Betrayed her so she could live. How do you live in as a prisoner? Layla is be drained of her blood, her power. Just enough to keep her alive. It’s not just Layla trapped with Conquest. Layla just wanted to get back to her guys. They had to have survived, right?
Death, herself, came to Layla and told her how she could close the tear and stop all of the demons from overrunning the world. Despite who she took with her, Layla had to sacrifice herself to save the world. Nothing could change her mind not even her guys. Will she be able to convince them to help her make this sacrifice? This book is an epic ending to a wonderful series full of characters that readers love. Readers are provided with a great finale. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Mint comes up with next.
WOW! This is the last book in the Coven of Desire, reverse harem series (also called polyamory and why choose,) and it's beyond all that I hoped it would be! If you haven't read all of the previous books, start with Ink, then continue. This would be a very confusing read if you don't know the characters intimately, or why the series ending is so totally appropriate for all of these people you've come to know and love! I even adore the side characters!
And that's why I tip my hat to Ellen Mint. She had seemed to write herself into a hole--with Layla captured at the end of Death (the previous book,) and her men seeming to be crushed under the house they all shared with her--or dead, or banished. The barrier between the realms had been opened, and malevolent magical beings were streaming into human-space. How she writes her way out of this conundrum is nothing short of magical! She switches viewpoints of whose thoughts we're reading with each chapter, which allows for us to know things that some of the characters don't--yet. And each revelation gets us closer to the final battle with the youngest of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse--Conquest, who has been using Layla all along for his nefarious plot to destroy all of creation.
But Layla and her men are all willing to die to save each other--and to save humanity, along with all of the messiness that life on a planet with humans and magical folks uneasily cohabitating, can produce. Even the epilog is satisfying, showing us what life could be like for these characters who've suffered so much.
I got an advance copy in return for my honest review. The book will be published on November 5. And if you've been waiting, not-so-patiently, for this final book, don't plan to get much sleep once you have it! I started it after dinner, and had to keep reading until I'd finished the book! Thank you, Ellen Mint, for such a superb ending for the saga of Layla and her coven of 5 men! Like her, I love them all--though Ink will always be my favorite.
Conquest has Layla trapped in a suite with no means of escape, and is slowly taking her blood and magic. She also has no way to contact her men, after watching one die, banishing another and seeing their house crushed with the rest in it. There is no longer a barrier between the realms with beings now crossing over into Earth and all Layla can do is watch.
But the boys are everything to her, and she is everything to them; and they would all fight to the end, willing to die and kill to save each other and humanity. Though they all have pasts and secrets which are beginning to come to light.
Told from the POV of all members of Layla’s coven, I loved the humour and rivalry between the men, despite their shared love for Layla which has them working together, mostly. It's been great seeing their family grow together in strength throughout this series, while they've been also wanting to kill each other, frequently.
A great read, full of action, tension, spice, humor, banter, distrust among the boys, betrayal, danger, deception, grief, sacrifice, love, loss and fabulous twists. This could be read as a standalone but with action from the first page it will make much more sense if read in order with the rest of the "Coven of Desire" series. I have been reading this series since it started with "Ink" and would seriously recommend the whole fabulous series.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a way to end this very lengthy series! I feel like this book brought everything together nicely despite the terrifying approach of the apocalypse. Things were in chaos with Layla separated from the group and it was really touch and go there for a moment. I wasn't quite sure how Layla was going to get out of Conquests's grasp, but she is pretty scrappy and doesn't give up easily. I feel like I finally got a few things from this book that the others in this series did not provide, one being cohesion between Layla's men. Let's be honest, they are never going to be perfect. Far from it, actually. However, I really felt that they were able to put most of their differences aside in this final book and got their priorities straight. They all worked together, even with the other supernatural species, and got everyone on the same page. The effort they put forth gave Layla a solid foundation of help when she was ready to let her plan unfold. And the moment I had been waiting for for several books now…some real communication and expression of feelings between Layla and Ink. This moment was way overdue and I thought it was so wonderful to see Ink be able to show his true feelings and for Layla to understand how serious he was about her, that he wasn’t just with her to stay out of Hell, and that he was actually capable of love despite what he had been told in the past. One of my favorite moments in this whole series. I’m sad to see Layla's story end, but I am really happy with the way Mint ended this book. Layla's soft heartedness, although not always seen as a positive characteristic by others and one of her weaknesses, ended up being one of her best qualities and the only reason we got the ending we did.
I have been with this series since book 1 Claw and loved every minute of it. A diverse cast of magical beings: a Dyslexic, Kindhearted Witch, a Sarcastic, Witty, Protective Incubus, a Possessive Alpha werewolf, a Goth Bookworm Ghost, a Sweet Cinnamon Roll DemiAngel and a Foot fetish having, pessimistic Elf learning to love.
Layla has been on a mission since book 1 to stop the Apocalypse. Throughout this series Layla and her guys had some good moments and bad. They had some wins and a lot of losses but through it all they had each other. Although begrudgingly in the beginning but as the series progressed Ink, Cal, Daniel, Garavel and Raul found a common ground with Layla as their center.
I'm sad to see this series end but it was quite the journey. Laughs, Spice, Witty Banter, Danger, Betrayal, Deception, Adventure, Bromance, Found Family and creating the family you deserve. Saving the world was no easy feat but Layla never gave up and although the battle was more than she could handle; her guys where there with her every step of the way. Watching each of the characters grow throughout this series was nothing short than amazing because many of them could not be around the other without trying to murder each other.
Layla had her hands full, but she accomplished the impossible. Not only did she stay ontop of her Clinicals, but she was also able to build a loving harem with monsters who normally be mortal enemies all while gaining new allies and friends while saving the world.
What a perfect ending to a perfect series! The Coven of Desire series holds a special place in my heart and has become my favourite romance series of all time. I've laughed with Garavel, cried with Layla, sang with Daniel, raged with Cal, smirked with Ink, and struggled with Raul, and these characters have all carved out a piece of me for themselves. I feel like they've become my family now, and I'm so sad to see their story end!
I cried the entire first half of this book. God, what a gut punch. In my head, I knew that everything would turn out alright one way or another, but my heart was twisted up in the grief and the finality of Layla's situation. With each goodbye, my heart broke a little more for all of them.
And everything wrapped up so nicely! The bit with Valerie felt a little clunky to me, like it didn't quite slot in with everything else that was happening at the time, but it really showed how much Layla's character had grown over the series while still staying true to herself. It was an important moment for her, so I can't be too upset. And Layla's better than me because I would've made a far different choice, I think.
I'm so sad that this series has ended, but I'm a lifelong fan of Ellen's work, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. A big thank you to her for letting me be part of this series as an ARC reader and for giving me such a beautiful series of books to obsess over!
I can’t believe it’s over 😭 I have followed Layla’s story since discovering Ms Indiana’s writing with Ink - Some Like it Haunted. As the story grew, with each addition to Layla’s coven, the secrets she revealed, the danger and growing sense of doom she uncovered, the more I fell in love with this group of characters. Each personality is so cleverly crafted, witty, humorous, sincere, strong, romantic, stalwart, dependable, serious, loving, protective, unassuming and self sacrificing. The action and drama have been non-stop, interspersed with laugh-out-loud humour, sweet romance, deep emotion, evolving magic and off the charts steam, but also mystery, suspense, danger, sacrifice and end-of-the-world chaos. I’m so sad this journey is now over, but also happy in a way, as now I can start all over again and binge read all the novels (and the novellas - 1 books total), surely discovering little things I missed (or forgot) while waiting for each book to be released. If you are into strong characters, magic, end of the world battles, steamy RH, and exciting storytelling, pick up this series and get reading, I promise you’ll love it too.
A full circle for Layla and the guys. As unexpected as the last book ended, I wasn't prepared for the emotional ending this one provided. Layla has embraced herself and her destiny and faced down death. Ink learned what he's been missing for all his years. Garaval has come to understand the power of having his own opinions and making decisions. Raul has finally embraced his place in life and accepted his destiny. Cal has become what he never wanted but is stronger for overcoming it. And Daniel is Daniel.
It was such a good ending! It gave me all the feels and an epic battle, everything to make me happy. I wasn't expecting how it ended but I'm very glad it happened that way. I feel like I can't say much because spoilers would be terrible, but what I can tell you is that I was sooooo happy the guys finally got it together, stop fighting (ish) and worked as a team. Yay! I want to say it was for the greater good, but we all know it really was for Layla. She deserves everything after what she has done for the realms and the epilogue was very satisfying on that front.
I can't belive that this is the last book of the Coven series. Layla and her guys have been so much and there are still sacrifices being made. I loved the moments between Layla and her guys, especially with Ink. Even though I sad to see this series end, I loved to see that Layla and her guys get an ending they deserve.
A wonderful conclusion to an amazing series I absolutely loved. Full of action, danger, great battles, witty banter, love and magic. Layla and her men stole my heart throughout the series. So series I will cherish.
OH MY! Ellen has done an excellent job with this book. She always delivers great reads and has outdone herself with this one. Definitely recommend it and the rest of the series. One of my favorite series to date and a read again. ❤️❤️❤️📚👍
Ms. Mint wrote a fantastic ending to the Coven series. Layla Held her own with the help of her men. Layla had a war that she had to win to save the world. Layla was always fighting to see another day. I enjoyed reading this series.
