He's devious, and my soon to be husband.
I didn't choose him.
I was coerced.
Whiskey has a way of manipulating me. He knows I'll do whatever it takes to protect my family.
He's found my weakness and he's exploiting it. Seizing as he sees as his opportunity.
Now, I'm his wife for the next year.
I'm counting down the days until my time is up.
Until I'm free.
However, it doesn't seem to matter how devious he is, or the fact he's my father's friend.
When he's near, I want him to stay.
I hate how I love being married to my devious husband.

I’m always game for a blackmailing, revenge plot romance so this book was easy to read in one sitting.

Tropes I loved:
⭐️Age Gap
⭐️Forced marriage
⭐️He calls her bunny
⭐️Angst
⭐️Forced proximity
⭐️Enemies to lovers

I think what I liked most of all is how Whiskey just broke the legs of men flirting with Lottie. That basically made the book for me🤣

Solid, spicy and easy to binge read. Plot and writing was average, didn’t feel much emotion to any of the characters but I like a good alpha-hole so this makes it a good read for my standards.

***4,25 "Blackmailing his Bunny!!!" stars***

"Good girls like you shouldn't be around monsters like me..."

This story had it all... Blackmailing, fake marriage, enemies to lovers, lies, secrets, deceit... and some times, it was becoming highly emotional for my poor romantic heart!!!
Whiskey was kind of cruel and emotionless in most of the book and it frustrated me so much that I wanted to smack him upside down to realize what he was letting slip between his fingers...
As for Lottie??? That girl was a badass, even though I hated the way she was cowering in front of her father and she was trying to act proper to please him...
Yes, there were blurring lines in here that I loved when our heroes were crossing them!!!

"This is going to go nowhere.
You and me... It's just a means to an end."

Lottie is the rebellious child of a politician who is trying to do everything that her father is ordering while seeking his approval...
Whiskey is her father's associate and they had one hot night together, a year ago...
Now, Whiskey is back and that night she spent with him is coming to bite her in her cute butt, cause Whisky is blackmailing her in a fake marriage with him for a whole year...
Lottie is mad and furious with the man!!! Unfortunately, she needs to comply in this absurb demand, but she will give him hell in every corner for what he is stealing for her...
But what is going to happen when feelings will start to creep up for both of them???

"I have to play a game as well.
The same one he plays with me. Deception."

I liked this couple very much...
To be honest, these two were so disconnected between them in the beginning... I was feeling the distaste and distrust between them, but at the same time, I was feeling the palpable electricity in the air around them...
But they didn't make it easy on us... Things were complicated and very cold between Whiskey and Lottie for a long time, before they will start to give into their feelings... and i loved them for not making it easy on us. It made their story even more appealing to me!!!
I am so glad that I've read it!!!

"His lips are like a beautifully toxic thing, you want it, but you know you shouldn't."

Eh

Ok, so I stuck it out and read the book. First and foremost, I feel like there wasn't any development of love interest it was just that she hated him so much she started loving him. Honestly, i just wasn't a fan of either of the character development. Secondly, the plot of the story wasn't a big reveal, wow moment. The whole I'm using you for blackmail I thought it would be bigger, but when it finally came out, it wasn't that big of a shocker. I will say this is more of a bully romance

He's found my weakness and he's exploiting it. Seizing as he sees as his opportunity.
Now, I'm his wife for the next year.
I'm counting down the days until my time is up.
Until I'm free.

My first T. L Smith book, and I'm a huge fan of her writing!
Lottie is a force to be reckoned with, she's fiesty, she's independent, she's a rebel.
Whiskey (love this name) is consumed by thoughts of revenge, meticulously plotting his strategy. However, he hadn't anticipated the unexpected emotions stirred within him by Lottie
At first, these two are like oil and water together, but when they overcome everything in their path, it's hot like fire!
I absolutely loved Lottie and her sass, it provided great banter throughout!

Tropes:
- Age Gap
- Forced proximity
- Enemies to lovers
- Forced marriage
- Romantic suspense

Our gal gives as good as she gets

Whiskey thought this would be easy
Revenge with a side of frisky
Oh was he wrong
Lottie has no ducks to lose
She was sass and fire and boy did she burn

This was high heat, blackmail, and still one of Smith's sweeter romances
Mom and Dad may be salvageable
The ex's - poss fish food
The BFF's?
Omg I hope we get their story

I read the original book of this - Cruel Beloved - and I loved it so I was a bit dubious of how a re-written version would go (I'm just being honest)

And the outcome ... TL Smith smashed it!!!

Lottie has been smothered with having to have the perfect reputation because of her father and it was pure sad!
She rebels, even as she gets older she still rebels - but she also caves every single time.
So when something happens that threatens that? And the only way to save face is to marry a man who was friends with your dad and you once slept with? What do you do? Guess ...🤦🏻‍♀️

This is the story of Lottie and Whiskey, and damn that man Whiskey is sharp and I definitely wouldn't say no 😏

A good story, probably a bit predictable but it's the way it's written that stands out and I'd definitely recommend.

Also - I love Emma and Barry!!

Excellent read.

Lottie Snow’s father is very controlling. Usually, Lottie tries to appease him but she wants her own life and starts rebelling. After a wild night with her father’s friend named Whiskey Corton, she never thought she would see him again. That’s until a year later she bumps into him at an event then receives quite the shocking contract in the mail. Whiskey thought he knew what he was getting into until this feisty red head changed that thought process. He has an agenda but she might make him rethink his plans. They are both very headstrong and stubborn so together they are combustible in a good way. When secrets, lies, b!ackmail and high running emotions combine, sometimes it just might be the right recipe to finding yourself. Whiskey is a delicious bad boy and I loved how strong Lottie is giving it right back to him. A must read enemies to lovers, faux marriage romance! Told in first person & dual POV.

Devious Beloved by T.L. Smith is the story of Whiskey Corton and Lottie Snow. This book was formally called Cruel Beloved but has been updated and revamped. Lottie had started to stand up for herself towards her controlling father. When Lottie has a one night stand with Whiskey she thinks that is it but she soon learns things are not what they seem to be.

Devious Beloved by T.L. Smith is a standalone and was previously published as Cruel Beloved. It is a fake marriage, enemies to lovers, age-gap romance between billionaire Whiskey Corton and Lottie Snow, a senator’s daughter. It is a story about revenge, deception, secrets and lies, but also an unexpected love and putting the past to rest.

Lottie goes to a party with her best friend Emma but leaves early and encounters Whiskey. She had a teenage crush on him when he worked for her father. It’s been years since she last saw him but one thing leads to another and they have a one night stand. She never thought she’d see him again but a year later, that night ends up changing her life forever. Lottie is a fiery and sassy redhead, who owns a bar and likes rebelling against her controlling father. She always does as he asks but has recently broken off her engagement to a man he chose for her.

This provides an opportunity for Whiskey to blackmail her to be his wife for a year. He has a plan and Lottie is a means to an end. He is very devious and manipulative as he is determined to seek his revenge. He likes her anger and hatred for him but also sees the desire in her eyes. She isn’t what he expected and nothing like her parents so his best friend Barry, is worried Whiskey might fall for her.

She is furious with him for forcing her into this fake marriage and fed up with men controlling her life. She wonders what his true motives are for marrying her? Games are played and bargains made as they fight the growing feelings between them. She is confused over wanting him when he’s only using her. When he starts playing dirty she finds it harder to resist and dreads dealing with him for a whole year.

He’s planned for her to fall for him not the other way around so will she beat him at his own game? She likes making it hard for him and won’t settle down and be his obedient ‘Bunny’. She hates to love him but it gets harder every day. It is amusing as he tries to convince himself he doesn’t want her but doesn’t want anyone else to have her.

I absolutely adored Barry and Emma because they were so funny and hope we get their story. Barry thinks Lottie could destroy him as can see he has feelings for her and Emma doesn’t hold back on telling Whiskey what she thinks. I giggled at how annoyed he got with her snoring and how she made him propose properly.

The twists at the end are interesting and there are some unexpected revelations. Whiskey at times did seem cold but when we learn the reasons for his actions, I actually felt sorry for him and could understand why he came up with his plan. How will she react when she learns the truth? Can he right all the wrongs, get her to trust him and have the HEA and love neither expected.

Cliffhanger? ❌️

Do I recommend it? ✔️

Tropes: Contemporary age gap, enemies to lovers, fake marriage, blackmail, forced proximity, forced marriage, romantic suspense

He's devious and her soon to be husband. She didn't choose him. She was coerced. Whiskey has a way of manipulating Lottie. He knows that she'll do whatever it takes to protect her family. He's found her weakness, and he's exploiting it. Seizing, as he sees, his opportunity. Now, she’s his wife for the next year. She's counting down the days until her time is up. Until she's free. However, it doesn't seem to matter how devious he is or that he's her father's friend. When he's near, she wants him to stay. Lottie hates that she loves being married to her devious husband.

This became a rather entertaining read. The couple held a great deal of tension between them, and I knew that when that broke, it would be perfect. As I read, I really questioned how these two would get an HEA. Whiskey didn't possess many redeeming qualities, but I kept my trust in the author. Lottie was strong, badass, and someone I'd love as a friend. The plot easily kept my attention with the chemistry, suspense, spice, and angst. If enemies to lovers is a favorite trope of yours, I would definitely recommend giving Devious Beloved a chance. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

I finished this book in one day. How could I not when the tension between Whisey and Lottie was so electric? This book had everything you could want: Spice, Groveling, Revenge, difficult parents, forced marriage, blackmail, touch her you die energy, morally grey, and a touch of enemies to lovers.

Lottie was uniquely herself and owned what she wanted. Whiskey loved to push her buttons, but he also took good care of her in his own way. They were in this constant battle, trying to push each other away. The harder they pushed, the closer they got. Whiskey falling first was just, everything I could have wanted. I loved that Lottie stood up for herself against her father and against him. Not once did she let Whiskey have it easy. He had to work for her, and I loved that about her.

My favorite Whiskey quote was: It's because you make me smile when I didn't know I needed to. When you smile, my heart does this stupid pitter-patter I didn't agree to. I didn't love you straight away; I just knew I wanted you. I'd give it all up for you. I want you to know that. And I'd still break any mans' arms or legs if they even think they can take you from me.

I swooned so hard. T.L. Smith really did wonders with this one. A definite reread for me.

Devious Beloved hooked me from the beginning, and I was completely engrossed in the story until the end.

Whiskey Corton and Lottie Snow meet one night by chance, and as far as she is concerned, it’s a one-night stand. However, things aren’t quite the way it seems with Whiskey.

Lottie is a feisty, determined woman with a strong backbone, and I enjoyed it when she stood up to Whiskey. I empathised with her but could see the hot, bubbling chemistry between her and Whiskey. Now Whiskey appeared to be an arrogant rat, and while he might be at times, I felt for him because something was going on behind why he wanted Lottie... obviously! I didn’t like his tactics, but I couldn’t hate him even though I tried, oh how hard I tried. 😆

Special mention must go to a secondary character, Emma. She is outrageously fantastic in every way with her bold actions and sassy mouth. Another character stood out but for very different reasons. I couldn’t stand Lottie’s father; he’s a ruthless, manipulative liar. Just sayin’!

There were a lot of emotions running throughout the story, everything from anger and sadness to happiness and shock. You definitely feel things with the characters, and as stated, it’s why I couldn’t dislike Whiskey. It’s one of the reasons for the extra half a star because this author really knows how to describe scenes and characters.

Another reason for the extra half a star is the terrific way the story flowed with its fast pace. I totally recommend this book to everyone who enjoys the enemies tho lover’s trope, especially as this has a great twist.

Devious Beloved by T.L Smith originally was Cruel Beloved, which was part of the Cocky Hero Club Series. I had read the original story almost 4 years ago. From the review I had written regarding the story , I enjoyed it. I have read everything this author has written since I discovered her for myself. She has never disappointed me and she didn't this time. Whiskey has known Lottie since she was young due to the fact that he has done some unsavory business for her father, the senator. Years later, now of age, he sees her one night, and they end up having a one night stand. A year later, Whiskey decides to blackmail Lottie into a one year marriage. If Lottie doesn't comply, he will release the tape of their one night stand. Initially, it is not known why he wants to be married to Lottie. However, Lottie knows something is amiss. She just doesn't know why Whiskey wants to marry her. But as this sham of a marriage progresses, both Whiskey and Lottie start to have feelings for each other. While Whiskey starts to rethink his plan, Lottie starts to discover Whiskey's alterer motives for the marriage. Many were suspicious of the abrupt marriage, why now and why so quickly. There was real chemistry between these two. And the sexual tension could be cut with a knife. A real love/hate relationship. Yes, this was a rewrite, and I didn't feel like I had read this story before. I enjoyed their journey to their happily ever after, and the ending left a smile on my face. 4.5 stars for me.

This author always outdoes herself with every book I read of hers, and Whiskey Corton was no different. This man is dangerous is the sexiest way possible & he is a stallion in the bedroom. He sees an opportunity after sleeping with Lottie Snow & he takes it to hopefully hurt her father for what he did to his family, but he doesn’t expect to meet his perfect match because his little bunny loves to fight. Lottie personality is what drew me in & had me wrapped around her finger, the way she handled herself when it came to Whiskey & how she always tries to get the final word, but her now husband will always have the final say. Whiskey is a man who sticks to his word, I will say I was a bit shocked at how much he actually followed through with his threats, but we love a jealous & possessive man. After many negotiations they finally gave in & when I say the tension & chemistry these two had for each other in & out of the bedroom was out of this world. Of course the author kept me on the edge of my seat till basically the end pulling on my heart strings but it was so worth it for them to finally have that HEA even after the truth was revealed. I did love these characters, but I also enjoyed their best friends Barry & Emma, I wouldn’t mind seeing a book for them at some point. Either way this was a great read & I highly recommend reading any book from this author.

I am a fan of T.L. Smiths books and have never been disappointed. I would recommend this book as a great introduction to her writing as it is a standalone and very enjoyable!

This was a quick read for me. I really enjoyed the spice and only wished we had more. After the initial s*xxy scene (I would go to the gym for that 🥵) it makes sense that we had to wait again. I understand why Lottie didn’t want to share her goods with Whiskey though…. He was a very bad man to her. He did not deserve her sugar and she made him work for it!

We see Lottie grow as a person and understand that she needs to be able to put herself first occasionally. She makes a lot of choices in her life to benefit her Dad and make sure that she does not upset or embarrass him. Whiskey takes some time to admit his feelings, outside of physical attraction, for Lottie. Whiskey was living in a state of denial…. Why would you break bones because someone flirted with Lottie if you didn’t care??? Silly man.

“…usually I’d go to the beach and spend the day there doing absolutely nothing but reading a good book. It’s the perfect day”

So true Lottie. So true.

I always love a food forced marriage, and I really love when he has to grovel. But in this one, Lottie is a total baddie and gives him all the sass and attitude he deserves. She may give in to the getting married, but she goes in swinging.

Some others fun bits:

“I take notice of things that are important to me. You’re one of them”

“This booty isn’t for your calling”

“I’d watch how you talk to my future wife like that when I’m around. You may be used to talking down to her, but I wont have it”

“But damn can that woman snore. How could something so beautiful make a noise that loud”

“In this life, and the next, I would choose you, over and over again”

After having read the other version of this story I've been looking forward to reading this new one! I got right into this story. I so enjoyed it!

Lottie and Whiskey's journey captured my attention quickly! From the moment these two collided fire ignited. Lottie can't stand Whiskey now. When certain circumstances lead these two to marriage, will Lottie and Whiskey ignore how they make each other feel and stay enemies? or will they get so much more?

Lottie and Whiskey got under each other's skin. It wasn't easy for these two as they go head to head. I liked how their story had a uniqueness to it and getting to see how certain things would unfold for them. Lottie wasn't one to back down from Whiskey. I was so glad that we got more of these two and their story. I went through so many different emotions throughout reading with them!

With Devious Beloved, Ms.Smith has created such a good read that had me feeling many things and turning the pages quickly! I am so looking forward to reading what she brings our way next! 💛

Be sure to read the author's note.

This was a good story.

First of all I love that the MMC’s name is Whiskey!! Then to start the story off with him almost breaking another man’s c*$%&? Chef’s kiss! Whiskey’s attitude throughout the book was perfection! When the FMC was acting like a brat, Whiskey smiled and let her throw tantrum and said “Are we still angry, Bunny?” Ugghhhhh. I loved him.

Here are the tropes!
-Age Gap
-Father’s acquaintance
-Revenge
-Forced Marriage
-Same bed(Whiskey burnt hers)
-Pregnancy
-Small grovel(but he didn’t really need to. He never lied😉)

I read the original book when it was Cruel Beloved. Uts had a but of a tweak, but my original review still stands.

What can I say about this great Enemies to Lovers romance. It has to be one of my favourite tropes, and I can honestly say you won't be disappointed. As in the title, this book is cruel, spiteful, and just plain heartless.

Corton Whiskey is playing a game that only he and few know the reasons for. The main pawn Carla in his games knows nothing. Only that her life is being destroyed by this calculating man. His motives remain his until the end. But by then, they are playing an entirely new game. One that both hearts are beating for.

I had a lot of mixed emotions through this book. Anger, sadness, and a pure need to scream and punch something. Carla is no pushover through this book. She stands her ground and pushes back just as much as Whiskey does. And although Whiskey is cruel, he had a loving and kind way about him. They say that hate is the closest thing to love. Well, this shows this as totally true.

I totally recommend this emotion fuelled read that keeps you captivated and wanting answers. Right till the very end.

Apparently this is updated version of a book previously written by the author but I had not read it. This version now retitled was a great engaging read for me.

We get a few tropes thrown in here that add to the story. Age gap and fake marriage and enemies to lovers.

I loved the love hate relationship between Lottie and Whiskey. He was everything she shouldn't want but does. Their one explosive night together the catalyst for their story.

Whiskey and Lottie aka Bunny were equally strong willed and quick witted both giving as well as they got.

Seduction , blackmail, secrets and banter will keep you thoroughly engaged.

Lottie has had most of her life planned and coerced by her father to benefit from his career. Lottie just wants to have control over her own life and decisions that come her way. When she calls off her engagement to a man who her father approves of, he is not impressed.
Lottie decides to live a little and find her own way.
Her inner rebel is streaming to escape and live a little reckless.

During a night out with her best friend Emma Lottie decided to leave early. What she wasn't expecting was to have a stranger step out of the bushes startling her. It turns out he wasn't a stranger at all. Whiskey was someone from her past who she had a crush on when she was younger. Whiskey was a friend of her fathers.

After a reckless night with whiskey believing that she wouldn't see him again, she receives a document blackmailing her into a marriage contract.

Two headstrong people who have a sexual chemistry between them struggle to understand why.

Whiskey had a plan of revenge and nothing or no one wagettinget in his way, even himself.

I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and fantastic plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.

Lottie Snow tried all her life to appease her controlling father. But she is not meek little girl anymore and she has enough. After one rebellion, she spends the night with her father’s friend, Whiskey Corton. One year later, they meet again. The she receives a contract in the mail. Whiskey had agenda before meeting the fiery red head again. He is very headstrong and stubborn man. Lottie and Whiskey butt heads on every occasion. They are ticking time bomb together. I loved their chemistry and passion. They re made for each other.

Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for an arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, father’s friend romance then you’re going to love it.

4.5 gripping stars.

They say there is a fine line between Love /hate and this book was a perfect example of this. You really want to hate Whisky as he is quite the bastard to Carla but you can't help but like him in a twisted way. I did love the way Carla didn't just take it, she stood her ground and in some cases fought back in her own way.

Once you start this you will be intrigued waiting to see what game Whisky is playing. Will they end up with their version of a HEA or will it end it heart ache.

This is a re-write of Cruel Beloved and i loved that version and my review still stands with this version giving it that extra

Devious Beloved was previously released as Cruel Beloved, T.L Smith has added to the story, elevated it and made it even better....if that's possible.

Lottie's one night stand comes back to bite her in the butt. Would she have done it if she knew it would lead to blackmail and a marriage she doesn't want.
Whiskey is out for revenge and is willing to use Lottie to get it. He won't tell her the reason until the end of the contract.

I loved Lottie and Whiskey's relationship, even if it was forced and not what either of them wanted/expected. Their chemistry was HOT!
Lottie was fiestyand gave as good as she got.
Whiskey was exactly what I expected for an alpha male, but he also had a softer side that was exposed when his feelings made a show.
Definitely recommend

I enjoyed this book and it was a quick read for me. I liked the bit of mystery behind why Whiskey was doing what he was doing. Along with the hint of mystery, there’s steamy scenes and good character development.

I liked Lottie especially as the book progressed. I wanted her to stand up for herself a bit more but I think she was a good FMC. I really liked Whiskey. He’s not a good guy and his actions aren’t great but there was just something about him that I really enjoyed.

This is a good read but I felt like Lottie and Whiskey’s story ended too quickly. I wanted a bit more of an ending for them after all the build up.

The obsession I have with this book! It has all my favorite things: fake marriage, suspense and a ton of emotion that had my heart feeling all the feels.

Rebellious daughter of a politician who is desperate to get his approval, Lottie finds herself at the mercy of her fathers colleague Whiskey who she had a one night stand with. Blackmail is at the forefront of Whiskeys game and Lottie must comply to keep in her fathers good graces, but she won’t make it easy for him.

Whiskey is the dark and broody book boyfriend that you love to read about and Lottie is such a powerful force to be reckoned with! Together they are a true enemies to lovers pair that you just can’t put down!
