Heartbreak Hockey #3

Breakneck Hockey

Rate this book
I don’t want Casey Alderchuck, but I don’t want anyone else to have him either.

My hook-up for the night wasn’t supposed to be my long-time hockey rival, but here he is. I’m too worked up to let him go home without having a taste. One little bite of that smart mouth is mine for the taking after how many times he’s broken my nose.

How was I supposed to know that I’d crave Alderchuck with the desperation of a starved man?

I’m always one bad day from an explosion, but since I hooked up with Alderchuck, my body’s constantly on fire. I’m thinking about things I haven’t in a long time. He’s dredged years of buried torment to the surface.

The cure? Alderchuck. My poison is my cure. How poetic.

At least he can’t keep his hands off me and our burning hatred is mutual. The flavor’s gotta wear off at some point, and that’s when we’ll go our separate ways. Until then, I’ll come up with every way imaginable to wreck him from the inside out. Use him up till there’s nothing left.

But I’m nothing if not territorial and protective. My instincts decide that Casey Alderchuck is mine and they pull him closer. My damn heart’s a traitor, too, trying to break the locks I put around it to let him inside. But I can’t let it win. Loving people like I would love Casey means risking the fragile sanity I’ve worked so hard to preserve.

Breakneck Hockey is a rivals-to-lovers story with some hurt-comfort, along with other vibes, like; I Can Hurt Him but You Can’t, Major Jealousy, Just Because I Say I Don’t Want Him, Doesn’t Mean You Can Have Him, Possessiveness Galore, a Morally Gray MC and, as always in this series, Found Family.

Some of you know her as Mock, others as S. Legend, or Miss S. She welcomes all names but will often go by Mock, a name given to her by her readers.
Mock is an ambitious creative, weaving the most precious aspects of her soul into stories. She is an architect, building fascinating worlds, designed from inquiry, rooted in worldly wonderings. It’s an intuitive process where she is the scribe, the translator, the conduit.
It helped that storytelling was the language spoken at home. One simply didn’t say, “We have an ant infestation,” in Mock’s family it was, “I was on my way to the living room, when a peculiar ant crossed my path. I looked to my right, a suspicious line of them marched toward the pantry. In that moment I knew; my kitchen was under siege.” The natural flow of conversation always took this form.
And so.
When Mock wrote her first novel, she didn’t plan it chapter by chapter, there was no outline, no “plotting” to speak of. But she didn’t “pants” it either, she didn’t make it up as she went along. She knew how the story felt, where it curved in places and hollowed in others; she knew the destination it rushed toward. Instead of orchestrating, she let the world inspire her, and held space for the words to come, trusting the characters knew what they were doing. All she had to do was tell a story, as she always had done; like breathing.
This is her peace, her healing and solace: Gifts better shared.
Mock’s works are the comfort you seek when you need to come home. Her unique writing style will take you, wayfaring reader, to unexpected destinations.
She always says, “I’m not in the business of making up stories, I couldn’t if I tired. I’m lucky enough to get picked to share someone else’s story when I ask a question to the universe. Someone answers; I write it down.”

Tropes: rivals/enemies to lovers, hockey romance, found family
Feels: 1.5/5
Steam*: 3/5
Kinks: semi public sex, rough sex, hand necklaces, marking, spanking, bondage, humiliation, praise

Two stars. And that's coming from the initial sexual chemistry only.

This book made me mad. I'm going to vent and get it off my chest. And then I'm going to forget about this book because I don't want it to occupy space in my head.

This book started off so promising. Casey and Sutter hated each other and had such animosity between them. They've hated each other since minor midget hockey League and now they're in the NHL on rival teams. They're 26 years old. They are both gay. They accidentally match on a hookup app and then realize who the other person is when they meet up. They decide to indulge in hate sex. It was supposed to be one and done, but they are explosive together sexually, neither has had better sex and they want more. It's the off season when they start out and they're both in the same city and they're hooking up every two days all off season for months. Sutter has a possessive streak. And Casey just wants to be in a relationship, have stability, belong to somebody like his friends who have coupled up recently. It would meet a deep need for belonging that Casey has had due to growing up without a dad and growing up with a mother who was sick and died by the time he was 18. Casey just loves being marked, loves wearing the clothes of the people close to him, and soaks up affection. This was a great premise.

This review is basically all about why I hate Sutter.

I've always loved a possessive MMC, but the author really fucked it up with this storyline and how long it played out. Sutter was a horrible MMC to me. Yeah his dad was murdered in front of him as a child and he volunteers as a camp counselor and helps kids in need, but he was possessive in the most toxic of ways. If you're going to be extremely possessive and be absolutely furious at the idea of your love interest having sex with other people, you need to not f*** other people yourself. If you care so much, you're not out there having sex with other people. And what's good for the goose is good for the gander, if you are going to refuse to be exclusive when he asked you to, you don't get to cockblock him at every opportunity, interfere with his life, punish him, demand to know who else he's hooking up with, and insist that you can f*** around but he can't. You can't go around screaming mine and demand exclusivity but not give it in return. Sutter was a trash book boyfriend.

You could say that long distance would have made exclusivity hard. But when they first got together, they were together the entire off season, and they were for the most part having fuck fests every two days. Sutter couldn't even give him exclusivity then. Sutter is fighting his attraction to Casey and even though him and Casey are having sex all the time, he hooks up with multiple other men trying to quit Casey. Casey at this time is kind of too busy to be hooking up with others and he's getting emotionally attached during this time.

"“I don’t do ultimatums.” I wouldn’t if I were him either, but fuck him. I harden my stance. “Why are you bein’ a little bitch?”" - In this scene, after their summer of hookups, Casey had worked up the courage to ask for what he needed in the relationship which was exclusivity and being boyfriends. And Sutter doesn't even have the grace to let him down easy or talk about why it won't work, he calls him a little bitch. Then he goes off into a pouty drunken bender and f**** around with other guys. And he thinks the moment he reaches out to Casey again, Casey will just come running back into bed with him. After this, Casey reluctantly lowers his standards and agrees to keep being fuck buddies. But he openly tells Sutter that this isn't going to be exclusive, that he's going to keep dating other guys and he does.

"Casey isn’t my boyfriend. He’s just mine. You know, in the same way you own a cat or a dog." - This attitude would be cute IF he thought the ownership was mutual, but Sutter thinks he can fuck around but Casey has to be all his. Toxic asshole shit.

It takes them until page 339, 71% into the book to stop hooking up with others. That's just far too late in the book to introduce exclusivity.

At 79% - "Besides, what would Sutter and I do otherwise? Talk? Even our text message conversations are filled with ways we wanna defile the other." And "The first sign of real trouble and we implode. Why? Because we’re built on a foundation of sex and lust. You can’t have a real relationship made out of that." - their relationship is solely about sex for far too long. I needed more relationship development earlier. They needed a stronger foundation earlier.

Page 458, at 96% - Sutter is trying to coerce Casey to tell him names of who he slept with while they were not exclusive. He's using sex to torture it out of him. Sutter can mind his own business. Casey asked to be exclusive, asked him to be his boyfriend and Sutter turned him down. Hurt him when Casey was vulnerable. Who Casey slept with is none of his business and he has no right to be butthurt and an ass about it, especially because Sutter was sleeping with even more people and earlier, before Casey knew they weren't exclusive during that offseason, and the open relationship was at his insistence.

I might skip the next book in this series. It's also full of other man drama, and contains major pining. Stacey has wanted Dash for years but felt he couldn't make a move. They are best friends. Stacey has to watch Dash fall in love and get engaged, and is asked to be his best man. Stacey is morose and in tears at times. Stacey loses his shit and goes on a wild bender of an offseason. And then Dash is the one seeing Stacey fucking around. That's just too much angst and hurt.

Some notable moments:

"“Say you want me.” “Fuck you, Sutter.” But I push my aching dick into his chest and squeeze him with my thighs. I also yank his hair for good measure. “I’m gonna murder you,” he says. “You need to,” kiss, “take your tongue,” kiss, “out of my mouth first.” He’s not willing to do that and it eggs me on."

"“Rough night?” “I haven’t seen Sutter in over twenty-four hours, I’ll have you know.” I’m proud of my restraint. At least I don’t call him, he calls me. My phone lights up, buzzing on the table, and I know without looking it’s the fucking universe calling to prove me a liar. “Aren’t yah gonna check that, bud?” Jack says. “Don’t do it, Alderchuck,” Rachel says. “Have some fucking self-respect.”"

Casey is a sweetheart "A maroon bandana’s wrapped around his dark hair. I stole his red one, I want that one too. I think I need to find my way into the Boston dressing room. I’d totally steal his blazer and wear it around. Why haven’t I stolen at least a hoodie by now?"

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

By far my favourite book in this series! I loved Casey and Sutter together 😂 I feel like I was waiting for their story for so long and it didn't disappoint.

Love the found family and the cameos from all of the previous characters too.

My favourite part of this story though was the drama and the push and pull between Casey and Sutter. They made me laugh way too much and they really reminded me of overgrown teenagers so often. Sutter's possessiveness was exactly what I love too.

Definitely excited for Stacey and Dash's book and the messiness that will definitely ensue 😂

I think this is one of my fav of the year.
This is what I need from rivals to lovers, and what I request when it says "possessive", I need alpha mancave possessive and oh god did it delivered. As hockey players, they were aggressive on the ice AND in the bedroom. I couldn't ask for more haha.

Enemies to lovers with HUGE sexual tension: CHECK
Dom/Brat vibes: CHECK
Possessiveness to level 7 caveman type: CHECK
Hockey player's roughness: CHECK
Pinning & sexual tension: CHECK
Can't stop thinking about you even though I hate you: 3x CHECK
Spanking: CHECK
Kinky: CHECK
Scenting, biting, marking, claiming, being feral: CHECK (this could have been a shifter or omega verse book at some point hahaha)
Touch him and DIE: 100x CHECK
Super cute: CHECK
Past trauma: CHECK
Food porn kink unlocked?..... check...

I might need to buy some jolly rancher watermelon as well…. 🤔

I love this hockey series and I was not disappointed in this one. I think it might be my fav so far. Sutter and Alderchuck were just perfect.
Alderchuck is the new cinnamon roll (Canadian version, comes with Poutine and everything ;D) that needs protection and love and Sutter is the new Doberweiler that will do everything to protect and love him.
Both of them have their issues but they complement each other in a healing/toxic way that makes them work.
Each character is always more complicated than it seems and what always catches me in the author's writing is that her characters are like us, they have a complicated mind and a past. It is what makes it 100 times better.
I might have liked the dandelion metaphor too much because it is just stuck in my head. Casey is the chaos and Mitch is the cage that will contain it. They cannot NOT be together.

As always, S.Legend brings us to her universe and I love how "the pack life" is in her books. We always have the whole family and they are always present no matter what. I love to see how Jack and Mercy are always here, Rhett and Lo are the sweetest ever and it melted my heart.

I might have unlocked a lock kink as well thanks to that book, but well... who cares haha.

The cherry on top was the Canadian penny, which just melted my heart the whole time.
The Epilogue killed me I think.

NOW, I need Stacey and Dash's book like my next breath, I kid you not that I am camping for this book. I need Stacey to be surrounded by love.❤️

This series is complete escapism. It is OTT, full of sex, and hits you in the feelings just right. And Casey and Sutter were no exception. These two were pure filthy, obsessive, messy AF bastards.

Casey and Sutter have been rivals on the ice for a long time and they look forward to beating the shit out of each other every time their teams face off against one another (hello sexual tension our old friend). Like they realllly look forward to beating on one another. One night they are both on a hookup app and match so they meet up and are shocked that they matched with each other. Since their messages were hitting the spot for them both they figured let’s just go for it. And they do… over and over and over and over again. The entire summer these two are banging basically daily. And it’s not even a secret. All their friends know and are just baffled but let them do their thing.

Slowly, feelings of affection develop. Sutter is the ultimate protector and his caveman feelings are triggered by Casey big time. One thing I loved about this book is that Sutter took the time to learn Casey’s specific love language - the things he needed from a partner and made sure that Casey knew he would be getting those needs met by Sutter.

I do say that this book lost a star for length. It is quite long and when we really don’t have a lot of external plot to resolve it just felt like it was one sex scene after another. I will say these two had some insane chemistry though 🔥

This is a classic case of enemies turned obsessed sex fiends turned lovers with their own unique twist that is perfect for them.

And the scraps we got that hint at the next book... I am actually gagging for Dash and Stacey’s story. The angst is going to hit soooooo good 👌

I loved these two so much. I don’t know how S. Legend writes a universe with So Many Characters and still be able to give them distinct voices and stories. I cannot wait to see who all gets a book. We know the least about Dirk. I kinda feel bad for him. He’s like an after thought friend. A nobody important character but he’s in the main group so surely Legend will give him a book? Or at least a personality. A page? Anything?

Warning: 🚩 yes they are toxic but this is fiction & they get their HEA and by the end you come to understand their motivations and weird inclinations to: keep people safe (Sutter) and to have someone fight for him (Alderchuck). Ugh I love this level of possessiveness and red flags so much. I can’t even tell you how much I highlight. A f-ton. 😂🚩💙

Jack, Mercy, Rhett, Logan, Casey, Mitch, Stacey, Dash, Dirk, all the Meyer siblings - some of my favorite people that exist and you can’t convince me they don’t.

I don’t know how Mock makes me care about this group of characters so much that I can literally just read about any of them going to the grocery store and I’ll be happy and entertained.

A few things:
-I’m obsessed with Vancouver and most of this series takes place there. 100 points for that
-These books can be read as stand alone but honestly you really want to start with book one. It’s a whole world in these books and you want to be a part of the whole thing.
-aaaaand, if you loved book one you will love them all. Which is why my review is all encompassing.
-Bring a sense of humor and step away from reality for a little bit.
-For hockey lovers, Mock knows her hockey for real.
-All of the tropes listed in the summary are there in abundance and done to the best they possibly can be. You will feel them.
-Watermelon Jolly Ranchers were my favorite candy in High School. (iykyk)

Mock, you never fail to keep me entertained.

These two are...ridiculous. Absolutely unhinged. This is rivals to lovers with a dash of EXTRA. In a shocking turn of events Sutter was actually my favorite character. I loved seeing things from his POV and his character growth throughout the book just latched onto my heart. I will never look at a penny the same way ever again. Also, Sutter's possessiveness over Casey gave me life. Casey is a bratty tornado and Sutter is the perfect person to brace the storm I loved the softer moments between these two and ate any crumb of that UP! I can't wait to get glimpses of these two in future books being as sickeningly cute (even though they won't admit they are).

💚 Rivals to Lovers
💚 Possessive MCs
💚 Found Family
💚 I Can Hurt Him but You Can't (on the ice of course)
💚 He's Mine

SPEAKING OF FUTURE BOOKS! Mock is setting up for some AMAZING additions to this series. Dash and Stacey are what friends to lovers dreams are made of. It's going to hurt so good. Maybe too good. I'm excited. Also, MAXWELL BABY I SEE YOU! I need his book like I need air to breathe. The groveling of it all will be spectacular.

2.5-3 stars, rounded. Bro. This could have been so good. Instead, it dragged on and on with the same ass plot line (meaning there was barely a plot line bc it was mostly smut 💀). Like I’m so tired of couples taking a million years to realize they feel more than just lust, ESPECIALLY if they started hooking up very early on. I get that it’s enemies to lovers and all that, but the emotional unawareness in this book was downright aggravating. Like it shouldn’t be this difficult to communicate and act maturely at your grown age. I feel charitable enough to give this an additional half point because I was entertained regardless.

RTC but these 2 are my favourite and I fucking love them. There's just something about aggressive men that fight all the time finding their own brand of tenderness

This book is just as camp as the others and I LOVE THEM

15 pages in before the book even starts..
Let alone a TWO page note talking about how edits can be missed and to email someone about them vs writing about it, honestly put a bad taste in my mouth.

We start the book off with spoilers that they are fucking, honestly I understand that the book is about it but there is no “will they won’t they” and the bubble seems popped.

I’m also already done with the MC saying something then backtracking as they are speaking to us. “Okay not really” like awesome don’t put that in then, it makes the character seem so juvenile.

“You god damn clown” that’s not at all how hockey players trash talk BUT OKAY. Actually how all the hockey bros talk in this book is sooo off

Going on grinder as referring to yourself as a cat or dog is ridiculous, again this book is reading so juvenile… I’m trying to figure out if I can even get through it at this point without rolling my eyes at every exchange. ALSO the amount of short sentences or weird wording (not how people talk ever) is really dragging on my nerves.

“Ogre sized dick” yep this book will be my downfall

I genuinely can’t even fathom one good thing about this book… like truly what the hell did I just read. It’s not even funny, as the author claims it a rom com and meant to be light and fluffy. I am sorry for this harsh review and I feel really bad ripping this author a new one, but this is book 3? And it’s written like this… no. Just no.

2.5 ⭐ I really liked how this started, but unfortenatly, Breakneck Hockey was not my favorite.

We follow hockey players Sutter and Casey, and their rivalry that has been going on for many years. When they meet up for a blind date, a very unexpected relationship starts to blossom between the two guys. Their mean banter was fun at the beginninng, but after a while, I just felt sad for Casey and was annoyed and pissed off with Sutter. This story is also super toxic, and for the most part, that was ok. But after maybe the 50% mark it just got to be too much, and I missed the character development (and by that I mostly mean from Sutter). I also felt that alot of the events besides the main plot felt uninteresting, and didn't add to the story in some way. I wanted it to make me like the characters more, but like mentioned previously, after being halfway through this book I didn't really care about the characters anymore since they didn't change at all.

Breakneck Hockey started out great, but it didn't win the match for me. I think it could have been better if it was 200 pages shorter, and Sutter had been written a tad more likable.

I would like to thank the author for giving me and ARC of this book, and I'm looking forward to try something else at a later point, as I've heard a lot og good stuff about their other work.

A MM Rivals to Lovers Hockey romance with clashes on ice, "top dog" x "brat cat" 😜, STEAMY lust & (slow?)burn love, possessiveness galore, markings & rope 😏, found family, & #SutterChuck!
What a f'ing rollercoaster ride, RomCom. I devoured my #ARC in 11hrs, Loved Casey & Mitch!

“We had a deal. Fuck until the flavor wears out. That should mean if the flavor never wears out, we never end.”

Casey is fun, happy-go-lucky guy who's also a bratty brat with depths; C craves affection, likes to belong. Plays for the Vancouver team.
Mitch is gruff (assholish), paranoid, protective but surprisingly (to C lol) charming & caring. Plays for the Boston team.

M+C'd been "mortal enemies" on Ice for so long, but then an app hookup together changes all (I SCREAMED). Hookups, Obsession, never-ending need. The hot chemistry they shared literally made me think why aren't they together yet, just 20% into the story!! (Oh they're “awkward”, that's why 🙄.) Bondage was hot, love me vers couple (even if they do it not much on page)! M takes control of C (& kinks) so good 🥵.

Fighting's their love language as O.M.G!!! The push/pull is f'ing messy & glorious! I hated the 1st rejection, but DANG seeing M squirm & desperate later was a treat. The "If I can't have you, no one else can" & "No one get's to boss him but me" vibes are strong lol. I wanted a grovel, but they needed a chase so I'm good with that 🙌.

The more forbidden, the more irresistible 🙈. I was waiting with bated breaths for those sweet, tattoos 🥺, vulnerable moments 😍. Their losses shaped them 😥... The subplot with Charles showed me a cute side of M 🥰. Another of Stacey has me worried for the guy & excited for his book! Milton can go f himself 😤. What's up with Eddie & Mayor 😏 eheheh. I loved all the cameos 😍. Sweet epilogue!

P.s. They aren't exclusive for the start of their hookups which ugh, BUT I did like the jealousy over it later on! Once they're obsessed & can't let go...omg, they're basically a couple w/o label! I liked the long distance rep ❤️. I was screaming at M to claim C already 😆. Everyone's happy when he finally does lol.

This honestly could’ve been a lot shorter than it was lol. Not that I’m complaining tho, seeing as I rated it pretty high. Anywayy, plot?? What plot?? This was a whole lot of spice and Sutter taking his sweet ass time to commit into the relationship. This is what I imagine a relationship between two jock guys really is 😂

“Number five: ….” <3.

….

One thing I know for sure. MOCK IS THE LEGEND. To create such world. I want to be inside her mind for a day or two or forever. These character have my whole damn heart. What a ride. I remember the time I got on it with Jack and Mercy and I am never getting off it. Breakneck, I totally expected to devour it but don’t you love the feeling when something sneaks upon you either way? I thought I was prepared for these two unhinged human-beings but the brand new version of tension, the aggression and possession Mock gave us and don’t get me started on the very own version of tenderness. I melted inside. Number five. Motherefffing number five. I know this might not make sense but what are you waiting on? Start this series and feel like you’re part of it all, the found family vibes are everything. And speaking of future books - Mock will be responsible for my very own downfall. But I will fall, every single day with her characters by my side.

So what is Breakneck really about? You want me to summarize the blurb? Meh… I’ll give you this instead:

B stands for brattiness;
R stands for ravishing;
E stands for enemies you say;
A stands for astonishing character growth;
K stands for (so) kissable kitten;
N stands for number five ♾️.;
E stands for emotional;
C stands for (top tier) comedy aspects;
K stands for (for) keeps.

1000000x1000000/10. No reception.

This is such a serious contender for my favourite book of the year, I usually am not a big fan of rivals or enemies to lovers trope but I guess when S Legend writes, I love it lmao!
Tropes include
💚 enemies to lovers
💚 hurt / comfort
💚 jealousy 😏
💚 found family
💚 only I can hurt him, you can’t (on the ice)
💚 protective MC
💚 and so much more !
God I loved Sutter & Alderchuck so much, they were both such a mess but they made something so perfect together🤌
The found family vibes are immaculate, some author write found family then no other characters except the MCs show up in the story but we get to see all our previous couples as well as the friends and family of our MCs !
The spice was absolutely top tierrrrrr, as with all S Legend books 🥵🥵

ARC REVIEW

This is book 3 in the Heartbreak Hockey series . I would recommend start reading from book 1 to get better side character understanding but it’s not essential.

I was excited for this book, not as excited as I was for #RhettLo but I devoured this in one reading. There’s a lot of quotes, I love the writing . One of my favourite authors. There’s more nuance than just the romance. BUT…. There is a lot of off page non exclusivity , sex with other people for the majority of the book.

Breakneck Hockey is the Enemies to lovers love story of Casey and Sutter, rival Ice Hockey players.

Casey - twins with Stacey … yes rhyming names which makes me cringe. Food motivated. Affection is his love language.

Sutter - a literal Canadian Boy Scout ( well Moose Scout.) He has a devastating childhood incident which results in a protection complex but has also stonewalled his heart.

The sexual tension is unrealised or ignored by them both but Casey starts to notice first.

“Goddammit. Thanks to Coach and his “you and Sutter should fuck out your unresolved sexual tension conspiracy theory”, everything Sutter says is dirty now.”

Accidentally sliding into each others DM’s leads to trying to resolve some unwanted bed chemistry with a lot of hate sex.

“Mitch Sutter is a helluva beefcake, but he should be skewered, roasted, and eaten like any other slab of meat, never to be seen again.” - Casey.

As time goes on, both men are convinced they are in some sort of hostage / addiction scenario situationship where they can’t seem to quit each other.

“That’s how I got here, because my “so-called” friends and family support my addiction. What I need is an intervention.” Casey

“I want to rip the clothes off him, which is exactly why I shouldn’t. This whole thing with him’s gone too far, and I’m ending this here. Now. Today.” Sutter.

There’s possessiveness , jealousy , more hot sex and denial of feelings , mostly from Sutter.

“He’s the last person I want to date, and the only person I want to date. He’d be the worst boyfriend, but he’d be my terrible boyfriend.” Casey

Poor Casey , trying to let Sutter in but unbeknownst to him , Sutter has a traumatic past. Sutters inability to open up to Casey leads him to believe that he means nothing to Sutter but an easy booty call.

“He doesn’t want me, but no one else can have me? Yeah, no. We’re not doing that. “I hope you get run over by a Zamboni, Sutter.”

Sutter is strongly in denial, preferring to rationalise his feelings as obsessive and primal. He won’t allow himself to be vulnerable.

“I run my fingers through his messy curls. These are mine. This is mine. He’s mine.”

Casey’s Team Manager Milton and Sutters Team Manager Gina are determined to keep them apart which adds a forbidden element to their fixation of each other. Discretion is key. The fans are all for #Sutter-Chuck

“.You two can’t stay away from each other on the ice. You practically fuck on the ice.”
“We try to kill each other on the ice.” Casey

Casey loves Sutters attention but is also frustrated . I am a little frustrated with all this on and off situationship between the two as well. COMMUNICATION BOYS!! But fear is dominating Sutter.

“Adding him to the list of people I live in constant fear of losing would ruin me. Yeah, not happening.” Sutter

Sutter leaves his marks on Casey’s body, goes all protective and possessive over him , wants his manly sexy scent all over him .. a constant thrum of MINE MINE MINE but …

“Yeah, never mind because I can’t make sense of my obsession with Alderchuck either.”

Meanwhile Casey

“I’ve figured out his pattern—I think. Anytime he gets the least bit vulnerable, he flees for a bit.”

Casey berates himself for hoping and wanting something real with Sutter. Sutter is questioning himself if they could actually work as a couple. Sutter is resisting this so hard. I’m like OMG GUYS !!! Just be together already.

“We don’t need to be boyfriends. Mine is a fine label, isn’t it?”

“I’ve lost track of the number of times Sutter and I have “broken up” and “gotten back together”.

Me too Casey, me too. But like you, I’m addicted and need to see you guys have your happy ever after.

Finally , Sutter admits to himself and us he’s in love! He opens up to Casey emotionally … progress!!

I have to add here one of my favourite lines , love a little Troye Sivan mention💕

“Sutter and his fucking album of me for his spank bank. I can’t help but humor him, though. I climb onto the bike as if I’ve done it loads of times but pose like I’m Troye Sivan.”

Gahh it’s like two steps forward, one step back with their relationship! 😭

“All the locks around my heart click back into place, relieved we didn’t let Casey in to tear us up.”

Some more bumps on the road to becoming a couple but they reach their destination. They are a couple., officially boyfriends and in love.

“You’re already the most annoying boyfriend on the planet,” I tell him, and I fucking mean it. But my heart’s all fluttery and shit.”

“I’m hit with a blast of warm tingles. I just got a heart from my boyfriend. Life is good.”

I was super excited for Sutterchuck, but this book just didn't hit for me like I hoped it would.

I have loved the other 2 books in the series so far - they're fun, campy, silly, sweet, and have amazing found family vibes. This one just felt like it was missing most of that magic, and instead was filled with repetitive sex and fight scenes that all blended into one another and felt mundane.

I'd say around 70% of the story is push/pull, but not in a way that I usually enjoy. The MCs spank and fuck (the exact same way every time), then piss each other off, Casey acts like a brat, Sutter is a douchebag, then they get horny and do it all over again. I kept waiting for some kind of real conflict or something of significance to happen, but it didn't. Instead of rooting for them to be together, I ended up cheering Casey on to be with someone else (especially because Sutter was fucking other people, but not allowing him to).

After the 70% mark, the story definitely picked up. They stopped screwing on every other page and started actually talking, and then the chemistry and sweet moments that Mock is known for made an appearance. I liked seeing Sutter get to know Casey more, and bring him into his personal life. They were cute, and I enjoyed seeing their vulnerable sides.

I think that Sutterchuck definitely had a lot of potential, but for me personally it was too drawn out and repetitive in the first half, meaning that the ending felt rushed. I don't think we got enough time to actually see them as an exclusive couple, and I also didn't connect with the characters individually as deeply as I have in the previous books.

Overall it wasn't a bad book, but there was just something big missing for me.

Oh my god, the way I loved this book totally snuck up on me. I mean I expected to love it like I did the previous ones in the series and it started off with a bang, like full on high heat animosity and sex. I even expected it to be emotional despite being low angst honestly and with tons of grey lines blurring. What I didn’t expect was how utterly sweet it was.

Shutterchuck were absolutely fantastic. The banter was supreme as was the absolute rivalry which didnt tone down at all luckily cause it suits them. Casey and Mitchell knew how to fight, the ultimate rivals on the ice but when a hook up app mix up gets them to consider rivals with benefits the layers of the relationship start slowly building up until they find an HEA with each other. I also love the found family vibe and the entire plot line with Charles was absolutely touching and perfect for this book. Loved seeing all the others characters again and can’t wait for Stacey’s book

If you love a rivals to lovers hockey romance with all the feels, some k1nk exploration and tonnes of heat please check this out!!

Expect:
* Hockey Romance
* Rivals to lovers
* Bit of K1nk
* Hurt Comfort
* Possesive MC
* Protective MC
* Morally gray
* Found family

I’ve been DYING for this book to come out, harassing Mock on the reg in her DMs (I’m sure she’s sick of my sh!t by now), and definitely wanted to crawl into a secluded hole to read when this ARC dropped into my email!

The chirping and banter was ON POINT for me! That will really take a book to 5 star territory for me and Mock is great at that so I knew it was gonna be great! These two can’t STAND each other but they can’t STAY AWAY either! They are DICKMATISED!

Sutter and Alderchuck are oil and water, but man are they fire in bed! Seriously this is smokin freaking hot!

This was definitely more sad than I thought it was gonna be. I was all up in my feels for this one. And with the snippets of the next book, Mock’s already preparing us to get our hearts beat to sh!t. No mercy.

You can absolutely read this as a standalone….but why tf would you do that? Start at the beginning! It’s way better that way!

I wanted to love this messy book more but I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. As good and sexy as this story is there is something wrong with the flow. It gets repeatative giving few new morsels in each encounter making it feel slow and almost boring. I keep wishing we could get to the point.
Plus, in my mind, they both feel, think and act like squirrels. 🐿️🐿️

Thoughts as reading:

I really didn't want or need that 'first looks' with the parents. I don't do well with awkward and this had me rolling my eyes big time. I knowwww! I'm supposed to just go with it, but still.🤨🙄🤭

When miscommunication is the main vehicle in a book, it gets old pretty fast. And when you have specific kinks involved, that lack of communication hurts the story.
And why oh why can't we have decent conversations, we get snippets and then it's a week/month later 😕

*Best moment in the book:
"Please say I haven't lost you."

Breakneck Hockey ARC:

Having read the previous two books, and loving them, I was excited to jump into this story! These two guys are aggressive, possessive, a bit commitment phobic, and sweet in their own ways! Getting to know the inner workings of their thoughts, feelings, and pasts made for a great story about rivals to lovers who are addicted to each other. I love the found family in this series and was happy to see it grow. The set up for future books was also marvelously done, just like the previous ones, and has me hooked!

Though Sutter was in denial harder than Casey, who was also doing mental gymnastics to file away his feelings and wants, this was a tension filled romance with lots of fight while evolving into an emotional romance. I must mention that this book is super steamy while still feeling well rounded. I fell in love with them, even when they frustrated me with their aversions and messy behavior, I was fully engrossed in their relationship and loved every second! Congratulations on another complete winner in this series! I’m so excited for more!

5/5🌟

Rivals to lovers written by the Legend (see what I did other? 😉) ummm.... Sign me the hell up!!

Now bear with me, I've rewritten this review so many times because I can't keep spoilers out (and I flat out refuse to write a review with spoilers) BUT good lord was this good. I absolutely loved the first 2 in this series so I knew I'd enjoy this one too but I did not expect to love it as much as I did! I literally could not put it down, read it when cooking my dinner for goodness sake!

It has everything I love in a book. The drama was epic, the spice... Jesus the spice people!!

Phenomenal read, have a bloody round of applause 👏👏👏

MOCK!!!! These Books just keep getting better and better!

These Boys are Straight FIRE!

They are hot on and off the Ice. I just love Casey and Sutter together, and they do too, but know they shouldn't. Its a push/pull, love to hate you kind of relationship and I am here for it! I couldn't stop reading, they made me laugh out loud so much and their attitudes towards each other made me think of horny teenage boys.

These two have been rivals on the ice for forever,and live to beat the shit out of one another every time they face off, which just makes their sexual tension that much more aggressive and the bedrooms scenes that much steamier!

I will read anything Mock writes. I've love her writing. Mock is an incredible author who never disappoints. If I could give this book more stars, I would.I've been waiting for this book, and I'm so excited that it's finally here. I'm not going to spoil it AT ALL. What I will say is, here are some things that I loved
Humor. I snort laughed ALOT. This book was HYSTERICAL.
Hockey, hockey, hockey-I LOVEEEE hockey.
Sutterchuck..read it, and you'll see, but of course, Sutter is my favorite. I love him💕 Honestly they are both maniacal.
The writing. Amazing. The witty banter, the comedic timing, ALL. OF. IT. I loved the flow of all the words. I fell into the world Mock created. It was awesome to see old characters and meet new ones. I was so engrossed in this book. I felt it in my soul.
Breakneck Hockey was everything. It was the best.

The spice was amazing, the boys were super hot, but the drama was a little much for me. The constant will they won't they. And just tell each other how you feel already! But it was worth it in the end so all is forgiven :)
