I love Gideon. But do I have to love his family too?
My sexy, scary demon and I have been together for nine years, and we’ve been through a lot. Kidnappings, evil megalomaniacs wanting to take over the world, rediscovering elves and dragons… nearly facing the end of our existence. Nobody can say we haven’t gone through these trials and come out stronger, our relationship more solid than ever.
Now I have to meet his whole family—and most scarily, his grandmother—and I think this is the challenge that might end us… because there’s every chance she’ll murder me and no one will ever find my body.
But there’s something weird about this little town in the middle of the Swiss Alps… and I’m not just talking about the fact that Gideon’s terrifying grandmother is playing matchmaker with his three attractive unattached cousins. Why is everyone here a demon? We’re all part of the community of species, so where are the other species?
One thing’s for sure… there’s more going on in the demon town of Hortplatz than meets the eye.
LOUISA MASTERS started reading romance much earlier than her mother thought she should. While other teenagers were sneaking out of the house, Louisa was sneaking romance novels in and working out how to read them without being discovered. She’s spent most of her life feeling sorry for people who don’t read, convinced that books are the solution to every problem. As an adult, she feeds her addiction in every spare second, only occasionally tearing herself away to do things like answer the phone and pay bills. She spent years trying to build a “sensible” career, working in bookstores, recruitment, resource management, administration, and as a travel agent, before finally conceding defeat and devoting herself to the world of romance novels. Louisa has a long list of places first discovered in books that she wants to visit, and every so often she overcomes her loathing of jet lag and takes a trip that charges her imagination. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she whines about the weather for most of the year while secretly admitting she’ll probably never move.
Sam and Gideon have been together nearly ten years, most of which were spent trying to prevent some kind of crisis or another. With things mostly (hopefully) settled, it's time Sam, as the Lucifer, meets with the species leaders, and discusses the best way they can all move forward. And what better place to start than with the demon species leader? Of course, this also means meeting Gideon's family for the first time - and his terrifying grandmother.
What Sam discovers is a community that's been isolated - though not seemingly intentionally. And, problem solver that he is, Sam makes it his mission to ensure that this isolated demon community becomes more integrated with the overall community of species as a whole. And thus will begin our new adventure in this wonderful world.
As far as series prequels go, I really enjoyed this one! I loved seeing Sam and Gideon again, and getting that glimpse of pure chaos that usually comes with their group. But it also set up the upcoming series wonderfully, introducing us to three of Gideon's cousins who will no doubt be features of the series.
I'm looking forward to diving into a new adventure. And if it's anything like its two previous predecessors, I'm in for some hilarity, chaos, and romance. And I can't wait!
A sweet little bridge that gives you the Sam and Gideon relationship, while introducing you to all the characters that will be in the Demon-In-Law series. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I first read this book some time ago and loved it, I've just finished re-reading it and then didn't enjoy it quite so much but hey. Reunion is a great introduction to the Demons In Law series though.
