Ariana resides in the stuffy city of Boston, though her accent might surprise you—it's a secret she guards closely.
When she's not perfecting her Bostonian disguise, she's busy crafting slow-burn love stories that'll have you on the edge of your seat, wondering if the characters will ever get their act together.
Insta-love? She'd rather sip on her Dunkin' and ponder the meaning of life. But give her a damaged alpha hero with more issues than a newspaper, navigating a minefield of complications, and she's like a kid in a candy store.
Disclaimer: This is an Arc copy review. There are no biased opinions or statements, this entire review is how I feel about this book.
I don't think this book was for me. It wasn't bad, the writing style was amazing. I don't believe this is the book for me, which is fine, because other people may enjoy it. I didn't though. I cringed at a lot of parts and felt that the story was somewhat predictable. Other than that, it was a cute romance to read!
While I was so excited to read this book it kind of was a little all over the place for me! I did enjoy bits and pieces of this book but I felt like the author was trying to put SO much into the story that it kind of just got lost for me a bit. We meet the 2 MCs in the story at the beginning of the book where she can’t stand him after he throws a tantrum for his coffee so she decides to mess with his order from there on out. Then there’s a fire, which leads to eventually them happening to be going to the same island and getting essentially ship wrecked together. Then a SURPRISE I’m actually engaged to your estranged sister even though we hadn’t ever met before. Honestly her family was the absolute WORST. Then pivots to I’m only getting married to the FMC. There was more that went on but honestly I can’t recall everything. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. 🤷🏽♀️
Thank you to Good Girls PR for this arc in exchange for my honest review! 🖤
had a good time with this one! It’s got all the classic romance vibes—enemies to lovers, grumpy sunshine, marriage of convenience, and forced proximity. Super cute overall, and the writing was nice, but the plot was kinda predictable and honestly, a little cringey at times. Some parts were just plain weird.
The main characters were alright. Ezra? Not my favorite, he was kinda awful most of the time. But Maeve? She was fun and definitely brought some good balance to the story.
All in all, a decent read!
Thank you Good Girls PR and Ariana Cane for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
there is nothing i love more and a grumpy asshole H and a feisty h who puts him in his place more than once!
this has everything i love, including “my wife” moments, jealousy, no real ow/om drama, opposites attract, dislike to love….so many good things 😭
so many crazy things happened in the first 25% that i wasn’t sure it would hold up, but i loved every part of it! when the drama of the beginning ended, the delicious my wife moments stared and i eat that shit up 😝
the ow/om drama is literally nothing. a couple of women hit on the H throughout the book but he puts them in their place FAST. even before him and the h are anything to each other. he just doesn’t like people and makes no mistake at letting them know. he doesn’t give manhoe vibes like AT ALL but he has experience even though nothing is mentioned other than he enjoys sex but he basically can’t really be bothered making an effort to have it 😂 he is loyal even when he thought he hated the h.
the om drama comes in the form of the H being a dumbass and thinking the h is cheating on him but she’s trying to help him with something and instead of communicating, he pushes her away and she calls him out on acting like a child and i LOVED that. she said she’s had a healthy sex life since she is on the shot but no mention of her last time and only that she has never had a non self induced orgasm 🙄🙄🙄 which is super annoying but not the worse thing i’ve read 😂
i’m SUPER interested in reading more about the sister!
thank you so much to the author and good girls or for an arc of this 🥰🥰🥰
My babe did it again. This book had it all. Arranged marriage. Billionaire romance. Funny. And a ship wreck?!
When we meet Maeve, she's pretty down on her luck. She's not that great at serving coffee (especially to our book hero), and she almost dies in a fire. In our heros building. And there's no way she can pay for anything so... she escapes.
Our hero, Ezra, is trying to save the family business. Well, more like get it back IN the family. And he's almost there except a certain building catches on fire.
When Ezra and Maeve figure out their traveling together, it's not a bed a roses. And then the unthinkable happens. They become shipwrecked. What do you do when you're trapped on a deserted island with someone who's ruined your plans or someone who wants you put in jail?
This was so fun. Ezra was really a grumpy gus, and there were times when I really wanted to...
Maeve has really had a hard time. She's just trying to live her life! (And I'll stand by that fact.) There's so many funny moments and a few spicy moments. Just wait until you meet the Wrongs.
The Wrong Sister really took me for a reading whirlwind. i seriously considered adding it to my DNR list about 20% of the way in. Then at 25% of the way in I fell in love with the characters. Then at about 85% of the way in I got bored again.
Maeve and Ezra are the definition of same, same but different. On paper they have the same pedigree. In reality, he is a control freak and she is sunshine and chaos.
More than once I found myself wishing the order of the story was reversed. Meaning, I almost wish they were married and then got stuck on the island and their HEA came while stranded or just rescued. The ending of this story felt very forced and lackluster. Maeve’s actions were so out of character, they weren’t believable. Additionally, the spice was not spicy. Ezra tried but missed the mark.
The secondary characters (Noah, Bea, Martin, George, and Jeff) were AMAZING and carried the book for me! I love Ariana Cane and Little Hope is one of my all time favorite series but this book just missed the mark. With that being said, I am excited to read Noah and Bea’s story, those two seem like they can get in some really good trouble together!
I love, like literally love how versatile Ariana Cane writes. Her stories always have a different kind of depth that can suck you in and take you to a world where you can live your life happily and would not want to return back to the reality. The story is full of banter and the chemistry between the MCs is full on mind-blowing.
The book starts with a great prologue which instantly made me question so many things. I wanted to know everything right, and it’s taken too long to get there since I just started reading the book. (lol). The story build-up is dreamy and is very efficiently relatable in our world. This romcom gets a full marks from me and I do want everyone to read it.
There are so many ups and downs in the story, and so much is happening and healing for mental health. There was no point where I wanted to leave the book, I just wanted it to go on and on and on even after the happy ending, I wanted more. There is this insatiable need to stay in these characters' life and feel the love they have.
What will you do if you get stranded on an island where there is no-one except the two of you? I was stunned to see the survival strategies Maeve and Ezra have. The story gave me butterflies and I adore Maeve so much. Everybody should find themselves and what’s best for them instead of trying to fit into the norms of society.
The pink hair of Maeve and the fierce personality won me over and I fell in love with this book instantly. Even the broody personality of Ezra couldn’t shake me. I wanted for him to be a different person and hope for the best that Maeve deserves and let me say Ariana didn’t disappoint. She made him just like we want our men to be, Possessive and attentive. Do read the book to find out what happens.
“How did I get her in my life? And why now? Do I deserve her? No. Will I do anything to keep her now? Yes.”
At some point in our lives we are told people come into one’s life for a reason. If ever there was an example of this in book form it is The Wrong Sister. Ezra, the beautiful stupid man who has lived his life hard as stone gets a dose of this reality in the form of a tiny tornado with pink hair, Maeve Wrong.
Always the business man Ezra leaves no time for actually living but merely existing. He needed a wake up call and got one in the form of being stranded on a deserted island with the only woman to ever make him feel. She has flat out infuriated him since their first encounter yet he is also mesmerized by her.
Poor Maeve is just out there trying to make a living other than what she grew up in. She is kind of a walking catastrophe even though it is never her intention to cause harm. She is pure, full of light, and selfless. When she reaches pretty much rock bottom she is forced to face her family as a last resort putting her once again in Ezra King’s path.
The not so meet cute between these two kicked off what I knew would be romantic comedy gold. From the beginning of Ms. Cane’s author career she would sprinkle her books with humor I have come to look forward to. She held nothing back with Ezra and Maeve. Giggling was a constant while reading this story. The many one liners of either spoken words or internal thoughts…I loved them all. The banter between these two was top notch and proved what I knew all along…Ariana’s first RomCom would be well worth the wait.
There are for sure more serious parts of the plot which truly left me wanting to reach in and hug Ezra so freaking hard. He needs hugs, lots of them, all the time. Maeve is just the person to cool his icy exterior and interior. Other touches thrown in that complete the story are the way that so many characters play into where Ezra and Maeve find themselves at this moment in time. Now, I wonder how long until we get sister Bea’s story!
Thank you to Ariana for the opportunity to ARC read for “The Wrong Sister”. This was the perfect book for ending my reading slump! TWS follows our two mcs with a great mutual dislike for each other ending up stranded on an uninhabited (not deserted) island together. From Ezra saving Maeve from a near ocean drowning, to their developed closeness by means of survival (and a bit less dislike) I just couldn’t not fall in love with them! Luckily, Ezra’s brother Noah comes to save the day after a few adventurous days stranded together & the bomb is dropped that Ezra is to be engaged by a business arrangement to Maeve’s sister. As Maeve ran away from home five years prior, this is quite a shock - and even greater; Ezra ends up demanding (with a smidge of blackmail) Maeve’s hand in marriage or no deal; and Mr. Wrong can’t have that. The spice in TWS is giving, yet tasteful - it’s not overbearing, and I love Ezra’s inner monologue and giving into his growing feelings for Maeve. Maeve is just the most hilarious character and these two both just need a little love and a push together (ahem give a hand for Martin)! Maeve is *the* feminist. I love how strong her character is, and that she’s willing to do what’s hard not only for herself, but in defiance of those who only aim to control her.
Ever read a book and only fall in love with the FMC? This was one of those books for me. Maeve was extremely likable. She’s was funny, witty, kind of clumsy, but a take no crap kind of FMC. I loved her from beginning to end and honestly this woman deserves better!
The premise of this story really sold me. I love the stranded on the island idea and honestly I thought they’d spend even more time on that island than they did. I kind of wish they did because that was the only time I liked Ezra.
I know he’s the grump in the grump/sunshine trope but this man was a serious a-hole. He just wasn’t the MMC for me. Which is okay. Maeve carried this book for me.
I think overall it was an entertaining read. I think there were some things that weren’t particularly for me but a lot of this book had me giggling.
Oooh this was such a fun book! I really enjoyed the twists that this story gave us! Maeve was a brilliant FMC!! I loved how we got to see the the consequences of her upbringing play out in in her lack of real world preparedness. But despite that, she still worked so hard and was so strong and smart and I just loved seeing how she pushed so hard to navigate her life! And Ezra was a fascinating character! His journey to seeing what was right in front of him, reconciling his own past with his present, and realizing what he wants out of his life was so amazing and beautifully written! I just really loved the uniqueness of this story and I stayed super hooked into the story the whole time!! And the side characters were a great time!! I cannot wait for the next book!!! 4.75 stars; 4 chili peppers
Tropes: - Forced Proximity - Marriage of Convenience - Billionaire MMC - Enemies to Lovers - Grumpy x Sunshine - RomCom
Not too bad. Although, if you are looking for a “survivor” style romance, please know that this is wrongly advertised. Like 15% (and maybe I’m generous) is taking place on the island 😅
I'm not sure how I feel about this book. The things I liked about it, I really enjoyed while the things I didn't like left me feeling bummed.
I went into this expecting a wacky romcom with opposites stranded on an island. This part of the book I immensely enjoyed. It was fun, entertaining and the characters' interactions were laugh-out-loud funny. I really liked seeing Maeve and Ezra have to work together to survive. The scene where he's climbing the papaya tree was so funny. I think we really got to see the chemistry these two had while on the island.
However, I do not feel like the chemistry followed them once they were rescued. The romance seemed to fizzle out and their relationship became all about doing the horizontal tango. I didn't feel the love between them anymore. I think this is in big part to the male main character Ezra. He's very Jekyll and Hyde throughout the entire story, it was giving me whiplash. Ezra is an alphahole grump that had no character growth by the end. I was disappointed with the romantic hero here because I did not feel that he deserved the heroine.
I did like the writing style. It reminded me a lot of Meghan Quinn actually. I loved Maeve. She was a great heroine. I enjoyed her character a lot and she brought humor & joy to the story.
I enjoyed the female main character, the stranded on an island bit, the writing style and the humor but had a hard time liking the male main character.
The Wrong Sister by Ariana Cane is a delightful, fun, and lighthearted read, perfect for anyone who enjoys a charming grumpy-sunshine romance. The story follows Maeve, a lovable klutz with a string of bad luck, and Ezra King, a grumpy billionaire. From the very beginning, the banter between these two characters shines, especially during the hilarious coffee shop scenes where Maeve playfully messes with Ezra’s coffee.
Maeve’s quirky and chaotic energy pairs perfectly with Ezra’s brooding, and watching their relationship develop—especially during the dreamy island scenes—was a joy. The way they slowly fall in love felt organic and heartwarming, with just the right amount of tension and humor to keep things light and engaging.
While the story is filled with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, it does start to drag towards the end, with some filler content that feels like it prolongs the resolution. Still, once the plot picks up again, it delivers a satisfying conclusion, although there were a few lingering questions left unanswered.
Overall, The Wrong Sister is a sweet, entertaining romance with some memorable moments that stand out, particularly for fans of light, comedic love stories. If you can push through the slower parts, it’s a great read!
My cheeks were sore from laughing and smiling while reading Ariana Cane’s “The Wrong Sister.” Maeve and Ezra appear to be like oil and vinegar—Maeve has pink hair and an eyebrow ring, and Ezra is his high-strung, grumpy billionaire self. They get to know each other when they are stranded on a deserted island. But once they are rescued and return home, there’s a looming arranged marriage to deal with, one that Maeve was not aware of.
I liked that the entire story was not just on the island—it was just a piece of how Maeve and Ezra’s relationship began to develop. The play on words had me howling and recalling the old Abbott and Costello skit—“Who’s on first?” which wrong sister? It was great! And the other characters gave me something to hope for, perhaps a future story of Noah and Beatrice. I can wish!
“The Wrong Sister” was a heartfelt rom-com that gave me all the feels. It had wonderful characters and memorable spice scenes. I enjoyed it!
Thank you, Good Girls PR and Ariana Cane, for the gifted advance reader copy of “The Wrong Sister,” I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Book Title: The Wrong Sister Author: Ariana Cane Rating: 4.5 stars E-ARC received by Good Girls PR
Review:
The Wrong Sister by Ariana Cane was such a fun read! I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and the perfect trifecta of tropes. This was my first book by Ariana Cane, and I was pleasantly surprised by how hooked I was from the start.
Ezra and Mae are an odd couple who work so well together. Ezra, the grumpy billionaire, and Mae, the chaotic barista, bring such great banter and chemistry to the story. Their dynamic is fresh, and I loved how their contrasting personalities blended perfectly—opposites really do attract! Plus, the island setting added a unique touch to their relationship. I mean, how often do we read about characters stranded on an island these days? It was super entertaining and I was intrigued from the beginning.
The uniqueness of this story stands out, and I couldn't put the book down. The side characters were just as entertaining and added a great balance of humor and depth. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
Tropes: - Forced Proximity - Marriage of Convenience - Billionaire MMC - Enemies to Lovers - Grumpy x Sunshine - RomCom
The Wrong Sister will be available on September 10th, and I highly recommend it for anyone who loves a fun, trope-packed romance with heart and humor.
I really wish goodreads gave half stars. This was a 3.5 ⭐️ for me, but I rounded up cause I did really enjoy it.
First, the plot is decent. I liked the premise, we love a good opposites attract/ grumpy sunshine romance. And this delivered on that.
I liked the characters. Our FMC was a good mix of different, but didn't come across as a pick me or "she's not like other girls" that can be annoying. I liked her a lot and she was hysterical. Our MMC was broody and grumpy, but funny at times. I do feel like we got quite a bit of whiplash with his moods. But I loved how possessive he was, and was able to look past it.
The book did feel a bit long. I think some things could definitely have been cut and it dragged in a few parts. I was extremely irritated that they got no hospital or medical treatment after literally being in a boat sinking and stranded on an island for several days. Like wtf. HUGE oversight.
I'm also bummed we got zero revenge on the FMC parents. It was literally part of how he enticed her into the arranged marriage and then nothing became of it. That felt like a big letdown.
There were a lot of moments that made me cringe and think, really? But all in all, I still binged this book and completely enjoyed it. If you want a funny rearranged marriage romcom with tons of clumsy quirky moments, this will totally be your jam!
At first I thought this book would be a 4✨ but I swear once I took some time and processed it, it became a 5✨ read. I swear. I don’t know what I expected from this. But HOLY SHIT. I loved it. I’m not gonna lie it might not be for everyone but when I tell it had almost EVERY trope you can ask for I mean that. THE CHARACTERS. THE PLOT. THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN CHARACTERS. THE LITTLE HOPE CRUMBS. THE SEG UP FOR THE NEXT BOOK. THE CHEMISTRY. THE SPICE. THE ANGST. AND LETS HEAR IT ONE MORE TIME FOR THE CHARACTERS BECAUSE I SWEAR TO GOD.
Maeve has my absolute heart.
I think the only thing that would have made this book better was a little furry sidekick. Just like all the animal sidekicks in the little hope series (ps. Go read the little hope series it’s to die for)
This was my first time being blessed with an ARC, and I swear I was petrified I would have nothing good to say but holy crap I had nothing to fear, because Miss. Ariana Cane did not let me down.
It’s an enemies to lovers, forced proximity, opposites attract trifecta!! I seriously did not know what to expect with this one because it is my first @arianacaneauthor but holy cow I’m looking forward for more releases from her! I was so pleasantly surprised! Ezra and Mae are an odd couple with great banter and it just works. He’s the grumpy billionaire, she’s the chaotic barista and these two could not mesh better. Also how long has it been since you’ve read anything about being stranded on an island??? This one was so entertaining and kept me intrigued from the get-go.
-billionaire -arranged marriage -enemies to lovers -one bed -forced proximity -grumpy sunshine -he falls HARD
Thank you Good Girls PR and Ariana Cane's for this ARC!
This was a fun read, definitely one I could see reading on a vacation!
I really liked the characters and enjoyed their development over the book. Their trials and how they worked through them allowed them to be much more than one dimensional.
My only real issue is I felt like this book was jam packed with SO many milestones. I think if I could have maneuvered some things, I would have split this book into a duet. I feel like so much was covered that I wanted to expand on each aspect! New York, Island, Indonesia, New York. I almost wanted book 1 to end in Indonesia and their time in New York to be a second part to the duet. This could be because I didn't want time on the island to end... but also I jus wanted more of everything. It's kind of a blessing and a curse because then I was sad when the story jumped to the next part when I felt like not everything had been covered.
Overall a fun easy read, definitely fast paced.
Tropes- Grumpy Billionaire, opposites attract, forced proximity and a few others that I wont put here due to spoilers!
Maeve Wrong can’t catch a break, it’s one of after the other - series of unfortunate events that continue to knock her down. Comes Ezra King, with his own set of problems, but fate intermingles in their story in a way that they can’t get away even when they hate each other. Inhabitable island brings them together, but what does it take to stay together?
Maeve’s character was a breath of fresh air compared to my resent readings and I loved it. She was ready to rock her pink hair, tattoos, her quirky personality and unique fashion. She was so unapologetically her, truly enjoyed it! I want to be her when I grow up!
Ezra, good old grump that doesn’t like anyone but he liked Mae from the beginning. Couldn’t figure her out and she was so far up his skin, aaah made the chemistry so much fun to read. The character development of the way he cares for her by the end was also swoon worthy, I literally kept rereading those parts!
Lastly, compared to the other books by Ariana Cane this was different. However, it was so good!! The concept she wrote was so fresh and unique. A lot of the tropes were common, but the way they are blended — loved it! Absolutely amazing ready, 10/10 recommend!
Tropes: - enemies to lovers - marriage of convenience - grumpy sunshine - forced proximity - he calls her wife 🔥🔥 - spicy 🌶️🌶️
I was lucky enough to get my hands on the rom-com as an eARC for review, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I'm a total sucker for an arranged marriage plot and a grump-sunshine couple, and this novel delivered on all fronts. I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions while reading it - from fits of laughter to moments of sadness and even flashes of anger. Ezra and Maeve are complete opposites, which makes their dynamic so wrong, yet so right. The romance was sizzling hot, and I couldn't tear myself away from the book. If you're looking for a hilarious, quick-witted romance that's a joy to read, this book gets my enthusiastic recommendation!
This book follows Maeve and Ezra who experience hate on first sight, Maeve not one to care gives Ezra her sweetest smile while telling him off - Not knowing he is the owner of the building she works in and serves coffee to. After a horrible initial interaction things decline from there and the 2 just cannot stand each other.
This book follows them while they navigate a burned down cafe, being stranded and that’s just the beginning. They both try to deny their attraction but yeah things soon get twisted lol.
Definitely a good read if you like men who redeem themselves but warning her family are jerks.
I love a book that makes me laugh out loud, get sucked in with the characters and feel like I’m right there with them. This book gave me a good book hangover. I didn’t want it to end. I love the relationship between Maeve and Ezra. They are perfect for each other.
did one author write the first half of this book and another write the second half??? I felt like as soon as they got off the island the writing became absolutely horrendous and I had to DNF to keep from throwing my kindle
I didn't know much about this author but I'm glad that I ended up reading this book💖. Thank you so much Ariana Cane and Good Girls Pr for this e-ARC.
Maeve Wrong is a pretty clumsy girl when it comes to do different chores. She works in a coffee shop and everyday she ends up doing something bad. This includes a client who visits that coffee shop every morning. His name is Ezra King, a grumpy, very strict and thight man. These things made Maeve dislike him so much and made her priority to make sure she is making his life a living hell.
After an incident, Maeve decides to go back home for a while but she never planned to end up on a deserted island. And she was not alone. Ezra was there too. Because they were the only ones out there, they needed to make a team to survive whether they wanted or not. But the chemistry between them grows even more and feelings just cannot be denied anymore. Can Ezra ignore the mission he needs to accomplish and the life he needs to start beyond that deserted island? Can Maeve accept the crazy plans her parents have for her?
For me, the island part was really delicious to follow. I liked to watch those other sides of Ezra, those relaxed and fun parts. Maeve continues being clumsy but Ezra is the perfect man to rescue her from any danger.
The side characters played an important part too and were, as well, so fun to follow. Like Ezra's chauffeur (Geoge), his assistant (Martin), his brother (Noah) and Maeve's sister (Beatrice). They'd mixed up in the story really well and helped Ezra and Maeve throughout it.
Many twist and turns were present in this book which made it addicting and I always wanted to see what happens next. I will definitely be reading more books by this author🤭.
