This can be read as a standalone. It is book 2 of 4 of the Huntsmen MC series, with a HEA. Due to mature content and themes, this book is recommended for readers aged 18+; this novel may contain triggers.
3.5 stars. I'll start with the good first. I liked the two main characters. Both broken and feelings of utter inadequacy. Some thing's are said and done which breaks their friendship after h's father dies. They find their way back to each other only to have an ow who is an idiot break them apart again. Also, this is probably one of CM's darker themed books as it discusses SA, and trafficking of a child with details. So be aware.
The so-so now. CM is following all her usual plot devices and that's ok because you know exactly what you're going to get. I'm used to it and I'll still read her books. It's also OTT with the heriones character.
Now the bad which ties into the OTT herione. With my background in self defense and over 20 yrs in experience I can't take this herione seriously because it's not realistic at all, but this is a fictional story so females are going to be just as strong and tough as males. Which I'm sorry isn't going to happen. Though I've seen a 6'3 woman over 200lbs give as good as she got, but our herione is barely over 5'2 taking down beefy men with body punches. Yeah, nope. Unless sister has a weapon or is a GMO super soldier it can't happen. I've helped train MMA fighters and they'd be wiping the floor with my ass. Also, this is an underground fighting ring and the h is the undisputed, reining, underground fighting champion. Eyes rolling so hard. BUT once I got over that prejudice, and told my brain not to dissect fight scenes I enjoyed the story and characters.
Overall Charlotte Mcginlay's books have a lot of fans I think because of the OTT BS that all the ow and club whores create. And I'll high five CM when she takes them out violently. Don't come at me. They deserved everything they got 😂. I like to read her books in between other books because I know what I'm getting and I know I'll roll my eyes until they hit the back of my head, but I will be highly entertained.
Safety: SA, detailed rape of h. Detailed trafficking of a child by authority that should have protected the H Oliver.
Mmm. Not my cuppa. Same old, same old. Hero with childhood trauma doesn’t think he’s good enough so he ha sex with anything that moves to prevent the heroine from having romantic ideas about him. She is raped by two guys that have been training in her fitness center, and for some years she freezes the hero. Both are with op. In the end it’s the usual bs, it’s always been you, that nobody believes now. Next one is about another mc member that broke up with the love of his life in an ugly way,but he’s been celibate for years. So I suppose I could give it a try. It’s not that I’m a prude. I’m just a consistent person that loves consistency so I don’t believe when someone say it’s always been you, but in the meantime they have sex with everything that move. Simple like that . So, this was not something I could appreciate but maybe next one will.
This is Acid and Perrie’s book. He’s Piston’s (H from book 1) older brother and she’s Cass’s (h from book 3) little sister. He’s a little older, but they grew up together when her father took him in (he had a boxing gym) because their dad was abusive.
*I believe it says somewhere these can be read as standalones, but the storylines of the couples overlap from book to book and she usually either quickly recaps or sort of brushes over it, so it could be confusing to just pop in or read these out of order. For example, we already knew from book one the bones of Acid/Perrie and Steal/Cass relationships and some of their backstory.
So, coming into this we already knew
The book open by backtracking and filling in some of the holes of their younger years. The content is much darker, and both have been abused and are dealing with trauma, so fyi trigger warning
I liked both main characters, but I felt like the plot dragged on at times. Their backstories were sad, but I felt like we had the same push/pull and I’m not good enough/go run away cycle for so long it got sort of boring. And.. The OW drama wasn’t very yummy because she wasn’t around much, and it was kind of sloppy. It was drawn out for no reason, so it added nothing.
Bottom Line- Ok, much the same as we've seen before. If you enjoy her mc reads, you should enjoy this too.
Very OTT but the subject matter needed more depth. Still it is mildly entertaining. One thing I feel it needed, was for the MMC to change his name to the FMC’s. It just felt like that’s what should have happened. The FMC’s father saved the MMC. The MMC’s father was such a monster that keeping his name shouldn’t have been an option. Plus the FMC’s family gym was named after her family, so it is a logical leap for this to happen. But it didn’t. It was a missed opportunity for these characters. Oh well, it’s not going on my reread list anyway. Good luck.
*** Trigger Warning *** if you trigger easy you might want to pass or at least read what the triggers are.
Acid and Perrie are to scarred souls that eventually find a way to heal. This book is a lot of back and forth of them not feeling good enough for the other. In reality they both couldn't control what happened to them especially Acid.
My heart broke for them both. Can't wait to see what their journey holds in the books that come. Since this Author is good involving all the characters.
Acid did everything he could to protect his brother from his abusive disgusting father. Basically raising himself and his brother, that is until his attitude got him noticed by the President of the Huntsman MC. They brought him in, let him prospect and earn his place in the MC but his haunted thoughts and secrets still hold a dark spot on his soul.
Perrie was raised in the ring and taught to fight by her father. It was not uncommon to see the MC around and it is where she befriends Acid who has an attitude unmatched but is put to the test by her and finds they become each others world until one moment has Perrie realizing her feelings for him are one sided when it comes to wanting more than friends. A tragedy ends up pulling Perrie farther away and when Acid finally notices her hardened edge he wants answers, could they both be to broken to realize they are perfect for one another?
This was a heartbreaking one but was wonderfully done. Acid thinks he is not good enough for Perrie and when he realizes that he loves her it maybe too late. Perrie is a tough woman, she was faced with several betrayals and I just thought she was so strong. Another terrific book from this atuthor.
I really need to stop building my expectations on couples from other couples books Because again i loved Perrie and Acid in others books but their own??
Im not going to rant alot about what happened because i clocked out when it was said that Acid slept around alot for years to " forget " Perrie because he was too damaged for her, he event slept with others after being with her Goodbye lol He rejected her and IMMIDIATELY SLEPT with the girl that hates her Andrea , which resulted in the girl claiming to be pregnant The owd was pretty nauseating tbh ngl reading about perrie being hurt that he slept with Andrea while Cassidy HER OWN SISTER tried to gaslight her into taking him back and saying he would never sleep with Andrea really pissed me off.
Safety: Not safe Major owd Mmc slept around after being with the fmc No cheating after they got together
One thing i feel like i should warn about is this book is darker than the others, the fmc was gang raped and it's descriptive and on page, i tried to skip the scene but just the couple of words i read really triggered me, she gets pregnant from the assault and decides to abord the baby The mmc was also raped and abused as a child, his father sold him out for money from 11 to 15 and it's also gut wrenching so read with caution
A good read and all that, but it's still confusing sometimes to follow. I don't know if it's the format on Kindle, but sometimes I got lost, but still, I wanted to get to the end to see how it all finished.
Story was great and I loved both Acid and Perrie. The trauma they both experienced was heartbreaking and very well written, definitely not a book for someone that has triggers.
I'm loving this new set of M.C books but they desperately need to be edited. Piston had a few errors, Acid had a bunch more and I'm not too far into Steal and theres already errors in that one too.
Totally weird complaint, Steal says in passing at the end of this book that Cass will be getting married at Hampton beach, but I know the author meant The Hamptons. Those are two separate beaches that are 323 miles/ 5 hours apart. The Hamptons is in NY and a bougie beach and hampton beach is in NH and is the opposite and a kinda crappy beach, I'd know I go at least once a summer to hampton beach lol. As I said, weird complaint but when its something semi local to me and I see an error like that it always kinda bothers me.
This is an incredible book had me gripped from start to finish and left me wanting more I want answers cand I want to see them get aurora back tel her story. But this book was not easy to read in some places it highlighted that rape just doesn't happen to women but men and children to. So if this is a HA4 limit then don't read it but all three so far of the series all happen at the same time and interlink together to create a bigger picture I'm hooked already to this author
Grovel = H had to learn to communicate to make up for his actions that the h took as the H rejecting her.
Both the h and H have damage that needs extensive therapy in order to be right for each other.
OW drama = OW was "friend" of h who was using the h to get on good with h's family and later went after the H, drugged the H, and possibly SA'ed the H (never clear if the OW was able to get the H to "perform") then later claims to be pregnant by the H. Comeuppance? OW was permanently removed from life.
MC = in the background, not main part of the story
Dark, MC romance. Friends to enemies to lovers. OW drama. TW: childhood SA, FMC SA.
This story follows Perrie and Acid (Oliver), which is the road name for our MMC. They initially meet as teenagers when the MMC comes to the FMC‘s father‘s gym to start boxing. He’s dealing with a horrific home life, where he is subjected to all sorts of traumas which play a huge role in how his relationship with the FMC develops. When the FMC‘s father passes away shortly after they meet, this single-handedly starts her spiral down.
Her father taught her to fight, so she does some illegal fighting to make money, and after a fight one evening, she ends up assaulted, which was her first time, so that is stolen from her and it’s pretty brutal. The people who assaulted her do end up getting their comeuppance, which was good to read about.
I am really torn about this book. First off, it dragged and repetitive. We learn of the MMCs trauma yet he says repeatedly in the book how he’s filthy and not worthy of the FMC. After the tenth time I’m pretty sure we get it.
Not sure what’s going on with this author, but she’s been writing her FMC’s as absolute cry babies lately and it’s making me so frustrated. This FMC was strong from the perspective of being able to fight and defend herself for the most part. And her revenge on her grapists was great. But the always crying was just too much. Plus the scenes with BBS were just not enjoyable.
There were also a lot of gaps in transitional scenes. For example, the character is in one place and the next they are somewhere else but there was nothing to let us know the scene was changing. It definitely left me confused at times and took a minute to catch up that we were somewhere else with the story.
I also don’t remember this author, putting so much detail about other couples in her stories. Like it’s clear that Steal is going to get his own book, but we already found out so much about him and Cass. I wish she would’ve just kept some of that back.
I don’t recommend this book. It did have a nice amount of other women drama, albeit predictable. There were a couple of other things that happened that I wasn’t expecting which I guess was good. But I almost DNF’d it at 65%, but decided to finish it by skimming very quickly through the rest which was the right decision. There just simply wasn’t enough good in this book for it to overshadow the parts of it that I just didn’t enjoy.
Shame because the premise for this story and the hardships which both the FMC and MMC endure were heartbreaking but I don’t think for me they were written well or handled well.
This book has very triggering aspects so check warnings and I thought it was good to get an insight into the aspects of the main characters lives that changed them so dramatically but I don’t felt like their chance for growth or dealing with their trauma was handled well. Everything happened in the last 20% of the book and it was all too rushed, like I’ve gone away for a few weeks, I’ve spoken about it, I’m all better now.
The issue I’m having with this series is that it is all based around the same timeline/plot so it’s basically a repetition of the first book, what’s worse, it’s that there are actual sections of each book just thrown in as a scene, so I’m literally reading the same thing 2/3 times per book.
It’s very lazy filler and if you’re not reading a stand-alone a waste of time, there are much better ways of touching on what’s happened in a previous book if you want to be able to read it standalone without literally copying and pasting.
The writing is not very good, it feels very amateur and childish to me, the characters are not given very good development, and you basically spend 80% of the book reading the same thing with a little adjustment depending on the character couple we’re on and for everything to be left to last 10/20% of the book.
2nd book in the series… more emotional and only gets hotter
I love this book. MC angst is rev’d up. Our couple had some REALLY messed up things happen to them. Sexual assault, child abuse, loss, and a variety of other horrific events happen.
You know what makes it better? The supportive crew around our couple (MC style of course wink). Finding resolution as you travel down this telling is beautifully done. I love how tough our heroine is, though finding out the why left me crushed.
Ummm our hero broke my heart even more. The journey he took to fight his way out from the trauma of his childhood, well he gets a standing ovation and a big hug from me.
What made me the happiest was this couple went on a journey of not letting the past define them. Realizing being together helped the most… thank goodness. I was gonna come unglued if the took any longer to figure things out. It drives me crazy when an author makes a realistic storyline (sarcasm).
This was an emotional read. I am signing off to read the next in the series. Eek. Wish me luck… hee hee.
My heart went through a beating with this one. I read this series out of order, this being the last I’ve read and I have got to say it’s the best one of the Huntsmen MCs. And no exaggeration when I say that Acid was the most likeable, decent, and gentlemanly MMCs in comparison to the other loose dunces in this entire series.
My goodness, I just wanted to take Perrie and Acid and place them in a soft plush bubble so the world doesn’t get another chance to hurt them. Their past was heartbreaking and their coupling was so well earned and deserved. Their relationship didn’t feel like it was on an uneven playing field where the man usually has the “upper hand” while the woman is forced and dragged along the plotline. In this case Perrie was Acid’s true equal. The strength in Perrie goes toe to toe with the strength in Acid.
All the other books in this series had Z E R O character development. The men stayed Neanderthal and the women submissive. But not Perrie nor Acid. They had the most beautiful growth and truly enjoyed reading every bit of their journey. Wonderful story!
I’m gonna overlook the fact that a girl nicknamed after tinkerbell is fighting 200lb men. This is fiction after all.
The drama was very over the top but I liked it. I like OW drama in my books and this delivered. My problem was that the book was all drama and no angst. I didn’t at any point feel like the relationship was threatened even with all the drama. I knew they would end up together. I think it would have helped if we hadn’t know that Acid was drugged right away. If the reader believed he did it on purpose it would have built some angst. But you know the majority of the book is miscommunication (for good reason) so you’re basically just waiting for them to talk. There’s a lot of trauma that is shown throughout the book. It was a book on healing more than anything. Liked it but didn’t love it.
I’m in awe of how much these two have been through. Spoiler alert: rape is never easy to get over but for a young man to have gone through what Acid did only to find out the love of his life also lived through her own hell, and you have a recipe for disaster. Each wanting to love the other, keep the other safe, and neither knowing how to do it. The author here has made the story line worth reading by allowing each person to slay their demons separately and then learn to live with themselves together. I can’t imagine what it would take to get through something like this. Trauma responses are different for everyone but you gave each person their own outlet. These dark story lines aren’t always for me but I do so love seeing a family come together for one or two of their own! Bravo and now I need more!!!
I enjoyed it. They both endured something terrible but it was nice that they were both going to therapy at the end to help themselves heal. I absolutely hated how Steal doesn’t seem to want to acknowledge that holding a gun to Cass’ head and seriously threatening to kill her would cause her to go MIA for so long. Now it sucks that she didn’t even keep in contact with Perrie when Perrie seriously needed her but I don’t blame her for being scared. Steal was a dumbass with what he did and I’d probably run and hide with mo plans of ever camping back either. I’m not surprised Cass was pregnant based off the hints but I really don’t blame her for hiding it. And Steal really can’t be mad when he takes things into perspective. He legitimately wanted to KILL her. That’s a mind fuck

I Love this book. Please read the Triggers warning, before reading this book. This book was Awesome. I couldn't put it down. This book has was entertaining, wonderful characters, MC, Rape, bad dad, bad mom, dad dying, female fighter, abortion, rape as a child, sister left, mom not a mom to het but to her best friend. he was rape again, unwanted, drug, pregnancy, sister left , threaten, Love her since she was sixteen, female frighter, win her back, cutting self, Drug, dirty, tainted, sister can back ( next book will be GOOD!!), spiked drink, drugged, that I was potentially raped?, Protector, Kidnapped, Abuse, friend to lovers MC, marriage, and so much more. Ollie is Eli,s older brother and he was abused by his father physically and sexually. And Ollie never told anyone not even his brother because he was protecting him. Ollie met Perrie when she was very young and they sparred together In her families Boxing establishment. Both Ollie and Perrie have lots of issues, but once they seek help they are able to work together as a couple. This series continues to be Great, each book. I look forward to each new book and just continue reading. The song Sweet Child of Mine is awesome to use for the Halliwell sisters.
I enjoyed this second book in this MC series. It was great to visit with these characters again knowing that there is more to come. I was a little disappointed that whole chunks of the first book were repeated work for word in this one. I get that the storyline overlapped with the first book but the middle of this book was a do over. With Steal and Cass still to come and Aurora's story connection with the series before this one, I look forward to more books with the Huntsmen MC.
This was a beautifully tragic love story of two fractured souls. The traumas these two have to navigate in order to find a healthy forever is visceral and hard to read at times. The painful but revolutionary paths these two had to endure to truly find each other was delicate and tragic. But what a glorious and impactful support they were for each other. Cannot recommend this story enough but si would be remiss in not imploring you to check content warnings as there are some dark and heavy topics discussed throughout this novel.
I cannot begin to explain how much I am enjoying this series!!!! Charlotte McGinlay has become one of my favorite authors. Within a week I have read like 5 of her books. Acid and Perrie both think they're dirty, filthy because they things that happened out of their control. They were both abused. Can they overcome their pasts so they can finally be together? I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book!!! Now I have to wait for Steal and Cass' book... Ugh
This is the second in this awesome series. This is a well written action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, intrigue, danger, so lies, betrayal, challenges, heartbreak, humour, witty banter, loyalty, secrets, angst, drama, and love which all leads to an entertaining, spicy, twisted, tragic, palpable chemistry, and unpredictable addictive page turner. I look forward to more from this talented whose work I highly recommend.
I had to skip the triggering parts (there were A LOT)
But that’s not the reason for the three stars.
There were a lot of recycled lines, almost word for word/copy-pasted which wasn’t in the other books (i started with the last book then worked my way back)
Good plot (enough to want me keep on reading), decent writing, traumatizing events. Not re-read worthy but I will keep reading this author.
I read this book with as, Ms McGinlay says in her book, “bile in my throat”. As CSAS myself this book brought on so many emotions. I cried so much and hard reading both of their struggles. This is only the second book I’ve read that had me crying so hard I couldn’t breathe. I was truly sad the book ended, I could have read more of their story. Thank you for such an amazing read. Can’t wait to read more of your stories.
Be VERY careful reading this book... The triggers are crazy. This book was sooooo good. Usually miscommunication between main character annoys me but the trauma that both experienced made it more acceptable. It was so dang hard to read in some spots so again check your triggers before reading!
I love this authors novels, especially this series. The story line is excellent and heartbreaking, it focus on Acid that was sexually abused by his father, who trafficked him to be used a sex slave. Tinker also has been traumatized by being raped. The both seek therapy to assist them with their mental health.
