A standalone novel about two characters with very minor mentions in the earlier books.
Ryder Wilson returned from serving multiple deployments but can't leave the hell of combat behind him. Frustrated and ashamed of his inability to function in the world as well as the veterans he served with, he retreated, choosing to engage only with those he trusted. When retired Master Sergeant Adam Montague sends him on a mission to protect his sister from some unknown danger, Ryder's days of hiding out may be over. Can he fulfill his mission without failing again?
Megan Gallagher has two big-brother Marines bent on protecting her from the evils of the world, but she's tougher than they think. When her older brother sends Ryder, one of his recon Marines, to her doorstep in the wee hours one night following a break-in, she realizes he needs rescuing more than she does. A friendship forms quickly, but unexpected passions run hot and complicate her resolve never to have a romantic relationship, much less marriage. So why are her body and her heart betraying her every time he comes near?
Can these two wounded people lower their defenses long enough to allow love to grow?
The main characters in this book have appeared briefly in earlier Rescue Me Saga books, but this story can be read as a standalone novel and is a new entry point into this ongoing series. Megan and Ryder will appear in later books in the Rescue Me Saga.

Lovely and emotional read just like the rest of the series. Not as heavy on the sexy stuff. The focus is on healing and the maturity that comes with accepting the past and realising that asking for help is not a weakness. Both of the main characters carry their own baggage and that makes them that much more human. The female protagonist Megan is easy to relate to and is someone I would like to be friends with in real life. There were a few mentions of the characters from the other books but as a whole this can be read separately from the series. I would recommend it to those who like military romance and have an interest in healthy BDSM fictional relationships.
Following his deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, Marine veteran Ryder Wilson is ensnared in the depression and self-loathing of survivor's guilt. He served with Adam Montague (Top), Damian Orlando, Marc D'Alessio (Doc), and Grant (all characters from previous Rescue Me Saga books). Now Ryder lives in a New Mexico desert, far away from city noises and people that trigger his severe PTSD.
Megan Gallagher is Adam Montague's younger half-sister and the sister of Patrick Gallagher, who is also a Marine. She is a photographer, recently graduated with a master's in fine arts degree, and is temporarily staying in Patrick's Albuquerque, New Mexico condominium while Patrick is out of the country.
When Megan's computer is stolen in a mysterious burglary of Patrick's condo, Adam calls on Ryder to protect Megan from the undetermined threat to her safety. And a rocky romance ensues...
Nobody's Lost is different than the rest of the Rescue Me series in that there is less danger-threat-adventure; it is more of a straight contemporary romance with some light bdsm. I enjoyed this story least of the Rescue Me books (the others 4 to 5 stars for me), but it is still an engaging tale of a troubled veteran's path to healing and love, which I am recommending.
I hate to say it but I didn't love this like the rest of this series, there were just too many things that didn't work for me.
The first thing was yet another 26 year old virgin and a nearly 40 year old man, I hate this scenario now and this is the second one I have read in a freaking week. It is just old and tiring let the man find someone his age or hell even older for once, it would be more interesting at this point since this is so worn out. Not to mention her reason for being a virgin was just not working for me and on top of being a virgin she was so ready to get into kink because she read about it, it just didn't work for me.
I also didn't feel any connection in their relationship. It felt forced and actually quite awkward especially the BDSM (if you can call it that) scenes and most especially the scene at the end. I don't mind insta-love in a book but I have to feel it and I didn't in this one. Especially with how shallow Megan's character came across at times with some of her dialogue, then all the hearts and flowers talk at the end it was way too cheesy for me.
Then the details of the ritual Ryder did was just a bunch of skimming for me I didn't need all those details, I don't care. I do care about getting to see them develop together but I didn't get to read much of that or at least not like in the other books.
Oh and then Grant...I didn't like her before now I hate her what a meddlesome nosy bitch. I have tried to see things from her POV but ever since the thing with Adam, then the last book with the scene with Marc, and now the stunt in this one, I can't and don't care about her reasons anymore. I do however hope she disappears and gets the hell out of these guys business and finds her own damn man, preferably one that she didn't supposedly work so hard to be their equal or one she doesn't consider family. I have no respect for her in any shape form or fashion after her stunt in this one.
I just love this series, and this book was an unexpected surprise while waiting for Luke and Cassie's story.
Ryder is so broken from his service in the military. He has basically become a hermit in the mountains and avoids as much contact with people as possible. His nightmares and terrors have such a huge impact on his life. He is hurting and guilt-stricken. His friend, Carlos, is the only person who seems to be any support for him, but that is also because he has isolated himself and basically made himself "untraceable" to those who do care about him.
Megan is Adam's half-sister. I don't really remember her from previous books, but she is a feisty one! Just what Ryder needed to get his life back in order and focus on healing. And, believe it or not, Grant had a big part in making sure these two connected in a way that gave Ryder something important to focus on other than his guilt. Megan was the perfect person to support him. I love how the "military family" has each other's backs and will do anything for each other.
One thing that was very unique with this book was Ryder's connection to the Native American ways and the vision quests and purification ceremonies performed to help people move forward in their journey in life. I was intrigued by the ceremonies and what they meant to Ryder, along with the connection to nature and "spirit" animals.
Another great book in the series......now I have to wait until March for Luke and Cassie! Ugh!!
Loved this newest addition to the Rescue Me series from Kallypso Masters. The book was intended to be a novella but ended up being more like a novel and we are all the better for it! Megan and Ryder made a perfect couple. I'll also add that this book made me more curious about Grant and I was glad that we got to see a bit more of Megan's brother Patrick.
I love all the research that Kally does for her books. I learn something from each one. Whether it is about the military, or PTSD or BDSM or in the case of this book vision quests and purification by Native Americans.
As this was just a novella the cast of characters was much smaller but the impact of the story was just as powerful as a full length book. Ryder Wilson was a Marine that served with Adam and the team during that ill fated mission years ago. He also served with Gino D’Alessio earlier who if you follow the series was the brother of Marc that died in combat. Ryder feels guilt for both what happened in Iraq and to Gino and has let that and a good case of PTSD make him become a recluse and not deal with his issues. Megan is Adam’s half sister who even though innocent in some ways is very good at noticing the signs of PTSD and has a way with helping.
I’m not going to talk a lot about what Ryder and Megan go through but to say they were perfect for each other and I really enjoyed their journey and story. One of my favorite funny scenes has to do with Kally incorporating a fellow author and her popular series into a scene that had me laughing out loud. Fans of the series will love this short story that was an added bonus as we wait for the next full length book to come out.
3-3.5 stars Not a bad read. The storyline was great and reminded me of how much i love this series. It isnt just a bdsm-erotic-romance, but also deals with some serious PTSD issues that are intense and believable. I guess im settling for 3 stars since for most of the story I didnt really feel any romance between the two. When they first meet and in the build up to their first kink scene, there just wasnt any chemistry. Sure, when Ryder finally succumbed and gave Megan her first taste of kink, it was hot. But his stubbornness to not let it get beyond some heavy petting and spanking until the very end was quite annoying. As a result Megan was the one to initiate most if not all of the intimacy, despite her status. That surprised me a bit....i didnt see the point in it really. And to top it off, Megan had to also be the one to . The end was sticky sweet, not necessarily in the best way. Still, i love the author and the series and I'm still looking forward to the next book.
Another great book in this series. Ms. Master's does a great job with representing our servicemen/women and the struggles they have coming home and dealing with PTSD. This book was just amazing: the characters, the kink, the chemistry. That was a little different side of Grant that I wasn't expecting. Oh, that was not near enough of Adam and his Kitten. I really want to know more about their brother, Patrick. Now, maybe I can wait patiently for Nobody's Dream....nah...is it March yet?
5 million stars for the book 5 in the Rescue Me saga! Kallypso did a great job once again! No matter what I say, I won't be able to do it justice! You really really should read it for yourself, the whole series really! The book might not have been planned, but turned out perfect and fitting into this saga.
Kally knows what she writes about when it comes to BDSM, PTSD and the Marines. A big deal also plays vision quests and purification by Native Americans and their believes. If you follow Kally on social media, you know she pays a lot of attention to her researches and get the things straight. So if you want to know what the real deal is, read Kallypso Masters book.
After his deployements and leaving the Marines, Ryder is a lost soul, suffering badly from PTSD. He does what he thinks is best for him and hides in the mountains in an abandoned cabin. He hopes his Top, Adam Montague, won't miss him. But Ryder forgot that once a part of the Marine family, you are always a part. You can't fly under the radar for long. So it happens that one night, after another awful nightmare, his former Top calls for help and sends him on a mission. You'll never let your Top down and so Ryder gets on the back of his Harley.
A break-in finds Megan a little shaken and as she deals with the police, her stepbrother Adam calls just in time. A coincidence? Who cares...at this point. He told her help and safety is on the way. Not soon after getting together, Megan realises that Ryder deals with heavy PTSD. Having dealt with it already with her brother Patrick, she tries to offer help, not only now but whenever needed.
As they wait for Patricks return and him taking over Megan's safety, Ryder and Megan start to enjoy each others company. They have more in common than one would believe. On top of that, the sparks start flying which both try to ignore. Ryder sees himself as damaged goods, but Megan wants him. As things go on, the tables turn and those who send out to rescue, find themselves in need.
The story is beautifully written as it's always the case with Kallypso's writing. You're captivated from page one and find yourself feeling connected with the characters. Her heroine is strong dispite her age. Her hero is a fallen soul that just needs that one person to find his way back to life. On top of it, Kallypso Masters adds a young woman curious about BDSM and a Dom that got a little rusty. Domination is one piece that gets Ryder back to his old self and so he initiates Megan in the fun and art of this lifestyle - in a responsible way with knowledge (not like other too much talked about books).
Kallypso Masters has me fallen for her saga and writing once again and I can't wait to read the next one, Nobody's Dream.
PS: While you are at it and if you should be interested in well written BDSM books, look up the mentioned Shadowland books *coughs* Cherise Sinclair *coughs* You won't regret and will find out that the two authors know each other well and have the goal to not only give their readers awesome books but also some real knowledge about the lifestyle.
5 Star Review Nobody's Lost (Rescue Me Saga, #5) This saga is one of my all-time favourites. I was not disappointed by the latest addition to the saga. Every book I have read by Kallypso Masters has touched my soul. The way the author layers the storylines is amazing.
Although this is a stand-alone book, I personally feel that it was beneficial (but not necessary) to have read all the previous books in the Rescue Me Saga. This book started out as a novella and as such there is a brief mention of other characters but no real catch up like the other books. Typical Kallypso, it morphed into a novel.
Nobody's Lost is the story of Ryder Wilson and Megan Gallagher. Both characters have been mentioned slightly before in the saga, Megan is Adam Montague's half-sister and Ryder a marine, who served with Adam. Ryder struggles with PTSD and survivor guilt and Megan with a decision made that altered the course of her life. At the request of his Master Sergeant, Ryder is asked to protect Megan, a job he doesn't want but feels he has no choice but to accept.
I loved these characters. Ryder, I just wanted to hug him and make him better; his pain broke my heart. I admire Megan, a feisty woman who knows what she wants and she wants Ryder. Most people will find their relationship to be rushed but this is fiction and it can happen. I enjoyed the BDSM scenes and was very interested to learn about the ways of Native Americans. I am impressed by how much Kallypso Master’s researches the subjects covered in her books, be it PTSD, BDSM or Native American spirituality. It is these details that make all her books so very special.
Nobody’s Lost made me laugh and cry, my heart broke for both Ryder and Megan and their tortured souls. Their relationship, although fast seemed to me to be a perfect fit. Two lost souls searching for their other half. I was so glad they were able to struggle through and reach their HEA. They so deserve it…
I look forward to catching up with Ryder and Megan in the next book in the saga Nobody’s Dream, due out early next year. Hopefully we will find out how they are settling in to their life together.
I also commend Kallypso and Amazon for their swift response to the error which saw the incorrect upload of the book at Amazon. I know many people received the wrong book and were angry and frustrated. I received it too. However, reviews should be based on the story content and not on upload errors so please bear that in mind.
Another brilliant addition to what is one of my all-time favourite series. Well done Kallypso Masters. I cannot wait for more.
I highly recommend this book and this wonderfully talented author.
Kallypso Masters strikes again. I can't believe that after beating her cancer, she managed to write such amazing, compelling story. Not just that, but in only in 5 weeks of work. That's INSANE.
With this book she took me from to break my heart as she never done before, to make me laugh so hard. I got to say that I ADORE Megan. She became my favorite heroine in the series so far, not that I don't love the rest, because I do, they all are strong, amazing, and brave women. Megan know what she wants and she's not afraid to do whatever it takes to get it! and she got it!
Ryder, oh gosh! that man broke my heart in so many pieces. The guilt eating Ryder up is heart-wrenching. One could thought that after reading several stories of Marines suffering from PSTD, the heart would toughen up, but nooooooooooo. I think, at least in my case, my heart breaks easier. Definitely, I got a thing for torment and wounded heroes. I can't resist them.
This book got plenty of good plot twists! That I remember there are at least 2 or 3 moments that I didn't see coming. At first, I thought I had pretty good idea to where things could go, but I was so wrong. Love that feeling when an author surprises you in ways you don't expect.
Being an standalone novel, unlike the rest, this book is a great entry to the Rescue Me series for those unfamiliar with it. Of course I advice them it's a lot better when you read ALL the books from the beginning [FYI: a bundle with the prequel and the 1st novel in eBook [bookcover:Masters at Arms & Nobody's Angel|21776150] you can get it FREE everywhere] that way the little details we get of the other characters in the series get a whole new meaning. Believe me!
If I was desperate to read Dream before, now I am ever more!!
And talking about wanting the books coming next, OMG! after Dream I NEED that Kally starts working on the other series she promised us, the one where Grant's story is, Pamela's novella (another promise from Kally) can wait. I'm so desperate need to know the deal about Grant. The tiny bit she was on this book made my curiosity about her go beyond the roof... way up!!
It’s not easy for me to break up with a series, and this book is a perfect example. I’ve been struggling with the Rescue Me Saga since Book 3, which I did not care for. Then Book 4 came along and my hopes were high! About ½ way through, I felt like I was drudging through mud trying to find a reason to keep going. I’ve never skimmed a book as much I did that one, and it was really hard to, because I wanted to like it – I wanted to love it – like I had the first two. I really love (most) of these characters. I was totally drawn in by the first couple books. I was excited to go on this journey with Kallypso Masters. I’ve kept at it thinking things would get better. And although I am cautiously, excitedly, awaiting Luke and Cassie’s story (as I’ve been looking forward to that since book 3) I was equally excited to see that a shorter work had been inserted as book 5. Hey, maybe something shorter will help get these stories back on track. The last few books have been packed with pages and pages of unnecessary repetition and overdone explanations. I guess “Saga” is the right word as this is too much (much too much) for a series. Even this shorter, unexpected (admittedly by the author) book 5 dragged on and on. I found NO chemistry between these characters. I thought Megan was about as unbelievable a character as I’ve read in a long time. I might have liked Ryder more, if he had found someone who I felt like he clicked with. The whole forced scenario that Grant created – or that the author created to make this story happen in the first place – was kind of weird. This work just didn’t work for me. I will give book 6 a try because I’ve longed for Luke to find his HEA for so long, and there could be such a wonderful unraveling of Cassie. My hopes have been tempered, and this could be the breaking point. There are just too many other good works out there in this genre to keep spending time on 500 pagers that could have been 250 and had a greater impact. This could be the end for me. Sorry, Adam and Karla, I tried.
I love Kally's books, and this one is no exception. Ryder Wilson is living a shadow of a life, hiding in the mountains of New Mexico and trying not to check out for good. He hasn't been able to pull it together since he left the Marines. He gets an unexpected call one night from Adam Montague, his former MSGT, asking him to check on Adam's sister who is living not too far away. Megan is trying to get her new photography career off the ground after recently graduating from a masters program at UCS. She has always figured she'd be alone, that no man would want her since she can't have kids. She hasn't dated much and, at age 26, is still a virgin. But as soon as she meets Ryder her hormones kick into high geer - she wants this guy, and wants him to pop her cherry!! Ryder knows he's not fit to have any kind of relationship, but there is something about Megan that makes him start to feel again. And she's into kink!!! This was an amazing journey of a man who has been plagued by severe PTSD, learning to live again. I did think their relationship was a bit rushed, but otherwise this was a wonderful story!
Sadly this story didn't grab me as hard as the others. It started off great but then became unrealistic and a bit desperate. I'm all for love at first sight etc etc but marriage immediately and straight into a BDSM lifestyle after knowing someone days, er, I don't think so especially given Megan's virginity and inexperience.
I did love the emotion brought out through Ryder's struggles with PTSD though. It was heart-wrenching and painful to realise that it's all too common.
I have a huge amount of love for this series overall though so I'm just going to treat this story as a minor blip in an otherwise perfect series.
Another excellent installment in the Masters at Arms saga. In this one we have the story of Ryder, one of Adam's marines, and Megan, Adam's newly discovered half-sister. The story is set in the desert of New Mexico, away from the club and Colorado. I loved the native American traditions and rituals that Kally has included in this book, making this very different from the other books of the series. The characters' stories are every bit as powerful though - an ex-marine fighting guilt and PTSD, and a woman fighting demons of her own. Together they are stronger and support each other wonderfully. While the relationship moved at a whirlwind pace, somehow it felt right. Really enjoyed this!
I loved this surprising, unexpected story about Megan and Ryder. I knew from the website it was coming and I really enjoyed the journey. This was a beautifully crafted story about a very misunderstood condition that so many people suffer with. I love the attention to detail that the author brings forward with group help information. I loved the magical, mysterious Native American aspect of healing and heritage that was brought forth. I find these things absolutely incredible. This is why this series is so unique, no couple in any way is like another. I enjoyed this story very much. It was a terrific addition to the Rescue Me Saga. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!
Another Great story by Kallypso Masters. This book is a Stand Alone but once you read it you will want to go back and read the series if you haven't already!!
Megan might be in danger and her brother sends in one of his ex-marine buddies to protect her when her house is broken into. Ryder will do almost anything for his old Master Sergeant, even if it means getting out of his comfort zone, but when he meets Megan he knows it will take all he has to not act on the attraction.
Megan and Ryder's story is going to be one of my favorites in the series. Her strength and presents stands out and is very easy to relate to. I absolutely can't wait for the next chapter in this series (In fact I already have it pre-ordered)
Hmm...I enjoyed the story overall, but felt that it was a little short. It's probably because I am used to Kallypso's being very long. I felt that I didn't get enough background or depth to the characters. Because of this it was harder to believe their budding relationship and personalities for me, I think. Megan was amazing at helping and supporting Ryder. She shows almost an unconditional love from the start. Ryder has some demons to work through before he can think about interaction with people, let alone women. I LOVED the Native American portions! It make me want to do a purification! I am intrigued by Carlos and of course Patrick. I am looking forward to revisiting Ryder & Megan in future stories.
This is the story of Ryder and Megan. Their story might not have come to fruition but for the intervention of others (human and spirit). Like all the other books in this particular series, this is an emotional book. I found myself crying and sobbing (while on lunch hour mind you), laughing, hoping, believing, and loving both the Hero and Heroine. Such strong characters who are willing to learn and love. All books in this series are emotional and powerful reads, giving the read much more than a love story. Great Book!, Great Series!, Great Author! I look forward to the next book in the series. Positive thoughts to Ms. Masters.
warning, Not your typical military romance in this series. Although each story touched on our veterans and the struggle they go through coming home from war. This book explores more on the intense struggles of PTS/PTSD and veteran suicide. This is an emotional read. One I have the privilege to be able to read freely because so many sacrificed their freedom, time and sadly lifes! This story is about Ryder and Megan helping one another, loving one another through different struggles. Megan is used to military men both her brothers were military and her brother Patrick suffered from PTS, so she is the perfect girl to help Ryder through his ptsd! This book also gives information on the American indians and their spiritual customs and culture. Romance (sexy times)is an after thought in this book because it will pull your heart to a whole different level where that is not the most important aspect of this book! Bravo Ms. Masters very enjoyable emotional and thought provoking book! Please the next time you see a service member retired or active Thank them for their service, I'm sure they never get tired of hearing that what they did for us and continue to do matters! Check out the video from Five Finger Death Punch' " Wrong Side of Heaven".
Ryder Wilson has been deployed multiple times serving his country, but he can’t seem to get his days in combat out of his head. He is ashamed of some of his actions while deployed, he wishes he could fix his mistakes but know that he can’t. As far as he is concerned lives were lost and it was his fault. Frustrated at his inability to function in the civilian world and live a nice life like some of his veteran brothers, he becomes a recluse choosing to hide rather than face the worlds judgements. One night he gets a call from retired Master Sergeant Adam Montague “Top”. He has a mission for Ryder, protect his sister from an unknown danger. Knowing he can’t say no to a direct order from his commanding office Ryder heads out to fulfill his mission. With the fear of failure at the forefront of his mind, can he complete his mission without getting anyone killed this time, or will he fail again? Megan Gallagher is blessed with two big-brother Marines who are crazy over protective and pretty much drive her nuts. But she loves them more than anything, even though they have yet to realize she’s tougher than they give her credit for. When there is a break-in late at night her older brother sends Ryder a former Marine to check things out. It doesn’t take Megan long to realize Ryder is the one who needs rescuing. They quickly form a friendship, but a surprising attraction burns bright between them, making it hard to stick to her no relationships mantra. To bad her body seems to want to ignore her brain every time he’s within her vicinity. Can two wounded people save each other and allow themselves the love a of a lifetime?
My review: I am a huge fan of the Rescue Me Saga books, so when I heard there would be a novella while we wait for Nobody’s Dream I squealed with delight. At the time this book was published I was going through a really tough experience myself. My older sister lost her battle with breast and ovarian cancer, so I was feeling lost myself. When I was able to sit down and delve into this wonderful addition to the Rescue Me Saga I was relieved to get lost in a world of passion, emotion and deep human connection. Kallypso Masters is a fantastic writer and I adore her work. Every couple in her stories have their own individual issues that the author takes time to address. Though this book moved a bit quickly from first meeting to falling in love the characters acknowledge that fact stating more than once how they barely know each other. But I can honestly say I felt an immediate connection with my husband on our first date so if its love its love and you know it. Ryder and Megan were a great team once Ryder let her in. The sexual tension was hot and once they got to it the sex scenes were amazing. I really enjoyed the BDSM element to the story as well. The scenes were well written and well thought out as I can only expect from the Ms. Masters. One of my favorite things about this book was that the author lets us know that Megan and Ryder’s story is not over they have a lot to learn about each other and we can expect to read more about them in later installments. What makes for a lasting relationship is the willingness to want to know everything there is to know about one another. Ryder and Megan are perfect for each other, though each reveal their own issues and insecurities they will work together to make their relationship work.
Even if you have not read the other books in the saga you can read this one and not be lost but I highly recommend the entire series. If you are looking for reading material that is real and has great emotion with characters that have substance pick up the entire Rescue Me Saga and spend some time getting to know a great group of guys and their gals.
As a fan of the Rescue Me Saga Series, I knew what to expect from Kallypso, but I didn't know what to expect from Nobody's Lost because I wasn't prepared to have the book pop up in the series. The characters of the book had been mentioned slightly but were not someone I had thought would take on a major role, not yet that is. But Kallypso did an excellent job of bringing the characters in without disrupting the already established foundation. It just added an additional block to things. Megan Gallagher was introduced to us as the half sister of Master Adam. Adam was just finding his family again and was trying to make sure he remained close to them. So when Megan runs into trouble and has a break in, Adam feels the need to protect his sister and keep her as safe as he would keep anyone he cared about. Adam contacts Ryder Wilson, who he hadn't seen or heard from in a while, but was closest to Megan. Ryder agrees to check on Megan because he feels an obligation to Adam. The story of Megan & Ryder was a touching one because you have two people that have been hiding so much and hurting for so long that are both coping in different ways. Ryder has chosen to hide away from the world and his only contact is his Carlos. He doesn't know how Master Adam find him and doesn't question his duty to him. He just does what is asked of him. But this does not stop the battle inside Ryder and the PTSD that is going on in the story. Ryder, like so many of the other characters of the series, have to deal with issues that are the result from serving \during the war. And Kallypso has shown their battle admirably. They aren't shown as easy to deal with or easy to love, but they are shown as someone that has to work through those demons. Megan took on her issue in a different light. No one knew what was going on and she used that to build strength around her soft shell. She didn't feel she was worthy of what she saw others receiving, so she worked hard for her career and left out love and relationship. Bringing in the different ways that the two found to cope with their lives made the story unique. And they also had a unique way of dealing with each other. This story didn't overwhelm a person who is a fan of the series and it also will allow someone who is new to the series to read without being lost. If they are anything like me, their interest will be peaked and they will definitely want to find out about the others in the series, but this story will not leave them lost if they haven't read the others first. The story was definitely a great addition to the series. It was truly about the battle within and helping calm demons. Not everyone finds love, but sometimes you have to just fight for what you want, even if the road is scary.
As the horrors of war come home and PTSD is becoming more and more prevalent, Kallypso Masters brings us heroes who feel they are too broken to survive, let alone love. She brings us wounded warriors … not only physically, but mentally, shows us what it is like to live with debilitating night terrors and then turns it all around with the help and love of a good woman. Then, and only then, does she bring us our happily ever after. Ryder and Megan are fighting their own kind of demons. Thrown together by Adam, Ryder takes his mission from Top with pride and trepidation. How is he going to protect Megan from unknown sources and from him without showing the true man beneath the wounded warrior? He hasn’t been with or wanted a woman since his divorce, now Megan is stirring feelings in him that he has to suppress or bring her into a world that he doesn’t think Adam would approve of for his little sister. As for Megan, well, she’s never given her heart or her body to any man. They aren’t worth the heartache or the disappointment when they find out the truth about her. But, with Ryder, she opens herself to both and gives in to her baser needs, her submissive side. Maybe, together, they could fight both of their fears. As the truth comes out and Ryder and Megan face their true feelings, wants and needs, they find the true meaning of trust and love. Kallypso also brings in a totally different storyline with “Nobody’s Lost” as she brings in the healing powers of the Indians and their way of life. She brings us through a Vision Quest to help Ryder face his deployments and start healing himself for Megan. Kallypso always amazes me with the how true to life her stories are. You can tell that she does major research when writing her stories so that her characters are real and the fears and dangers they are facing are actually happening among us. I give her kudos for being able to combine a true love story, BDSM and the horrors of war seamlessly. A true sign of a writer with a heart and a great pen in her hands.
In Nobody's Lost, Megan Gallagher, half sister to Adam Montague, finds herself the victim of a robbery. When she tells Adam about it, Adam calls Ryder Wilson, one of his Marines to check on Megan. Ryder is struggling with PTSD and has retreated from society, preferring to live in isolation. When Adam calls though, Ryder is unable to tell his former sergeant no, so he heads out for Megan'a place. Both are immediately attracted to each other but with Ryder struggling with PTSD, can they find love?
Like some fans, I was disappointed to hear that this would be the next book in the series instead of Luke and Cassie. One thing I have learned from following authors on Facebook, is that sometimes characters won't shut up and demand to have their story told. Obviously it was time for Megan and Ryder to have their story told.
One of the things I love about this series is how Masters writes about her warriors. None if them are the perfect knight in shining armor coming to rescue the damsel in distress. Many of them have returned from war physically and emotionally scarred.
In Ryder 's case, he is dealing with severe PTSD. Masters touches briefly on how the VA failed Ryder without being overly political but remaining true to reality. Bitter about his struggles with a mental illness, Ryder cuts himself off and nearly looses Megan because of it. Finally Ryder ends up getting help from an alternative source and goes after Megan.
One of the other thing I enjoy about this series is that it's not always hearts and rainbows after her couples get their HEA. Master writes about realistic problems that all couples face. While Ryder and Megan do eventually get their HEA, Masters lets the reader know that there are still some huge obstacles the couple must overcome (which hopefully means we'll see more of them in further books! ).
This was another great addition to one of my favorite series. If you like military romances with a lot of heat, this series is something you should definitely download.
When I read the other 4 books in this series, I read them back to back, and wrote the same review for each one. As its been some time since then, I'll review this all on its own, and will do that for any future books.
Megan is Adam Montague's half sister. We met her previously when Adam reconnected with his mother. Ryder is also mentioned in passing in a previous book. NOW, it says, that this is a stad alone and can be a new starting point for the series. THIS is correct, however, it would be more beneficial to you, as a reader, to read the other books first, it will help make this one make more sense, you'll have a better understanding of the others talked about here.
Ryder is sent by Adam to Megan's after a break in. Ryder has been a bit of a recluse since he left active service, and his Master Sergeant asking or help is a sure fire way to get him out of his deep dark hole. His reaction to Megan is instant and unexpected. He hasnt reacted to a woman in some time, and he fights hard, but Megan fights harder and dirtier!
What I really REALLY loved about this one, the scenes....or rather the LACK there-of. Hardly ANY! If you've read the tohers in this series, you'll know, they are, at times, difficult reading, emotional, rather than badly written. And they are many. Here?? not so. Why did I love that?? I've no idea, but thats the only thing that comes across, to me, sitting here writing, was that I LOVED there werent many scenes! Weird, yes, for Kallypso Masters writes these sorts of stories like no other I've come across. And I was expecting more. But I'm not disappointed there werent more, I loved that there wasnt!
It is quite a bit shorter than the others, and to be honest, it didnt need to be longer. Its a short burst, to keep you hanging on til Nobody's Dream, due out in March 2015.
I have just one question...Will Grant get her own book?? I'd love that! She's a sneaky one!
