I'm not a fan of 2nd time around love stories, especially when the deceased is being placed on a pedestal and the live spouse is still in love with the deceased. The herieorine of this book was a total bitch and I hated her. She did not deserve happiness and should have wallowed in her depression. It was a short read, loaned to me so at least I didn't pay for it.
I really tried to like this one. It had an interesting premise but the more I read, the more I rolled my eyes.
His Paradise Wife kicks off with Emily ogling Dante as he passes by her boutique. She thinks he's the most delectable guy known to man, but for some reason when he asks her out, she turns him. Not to be deterred, he fakes an online account on a dating website for widows and widowers in order to win her over.
Emily was definitely the most frustrating part of this. The whole "I want you but I'm still too broken up over my dead husband" shtick got tired very quickly. If anything, she came off as having more issues than grief. She was absolutely insufferable and I'm honestly wondering how her deceased husband dealt with her. Her constantly running away was annoying and very childish.
Dante, god bless him, is kind of a simp. Emily told him in so many ways that she didn't want him, and yet he still hung around. I don't know if he's a glutton for punishment or just desperate, but I'm struggling to understand why he put up with her for as long as he did. Also, let's be real, the whole catfishing thing he did on the website was creepy as hell.
Overall: A decent romance with a terrible couple. The story line was decent but it could've been fleshed out a little more. 2 stars.
WOW! What a enjoyable story to read with characters that are easy to enjoy! The hero is someone who just wants to love and be loved. The couple has a connection so strong that not even though they hardly know much about the other. But of course love doesn't run smoothly and who can come between them and sever their bond? Their love story is that a fated love and it will never be denied and a man who loves his woman will not allow anyone or anything to get in the way of him having her because he desires her above all else. This is not just a typical romance, since it has elements that's so surprising and of course throughout the entire time there’s something so unbelievable that’s just simmering beneath the surface, and that along with the depth of passion that the main characters have for each other it can be hard to tell each other your feelings. This is what makes this book such a page turner. I found the characters and storyline to be my favorite parts but I really enjoyed this story so much that I have hope for a series and oh did I forget about the cliffhanger but I don't mind because it's still worth staying up nights to binge on this story it so fantastic!
I read this book because I saw one of my friends read it and oh how I love a series! I really wanted to like this book but I did not. The characters were under-developed. Their motivations were missing and Emily's emotional intelligence was severely lacking. She was a very unlikeable lead character which was totally unexpected. The dialogue was not realistic at all. I tried my best to "hear" the characters (the male characters in particular) talk the way the dialogue was written and I could not. I am giving it 2 stars because I think it set the foundation for the series. I will give the second book a try before I give up on this series.
This book was cute. I loved the plot about how two people come together after the loss of their loved one and try and find comfort and love with each other. Dante was such an amazing man!!! I loved how he knew what he wanted and did everything in his power to make it happen. Emily kinda got in my nerves. I understand that she wasn’t ready to accept the death of her husband but I feel like she could’ve been more open minded and communicated her feelings better at some points during the story. Can’t wait to continue the series and learn more about the brothers. I would recommend to give a try.
I enjoy reading g about the Champion men. Dante, was special and filled with swagger. The lengths that he went to get his lady. Emily, was still grieving and was unable to make a commitment to join in a relationship. I thought she was petty in some areas, but later she explained it was to protect herself. I think I can fully understand that. When I read the novels, I’m in awe as to how many millions these Champion’s have. They aren’t selfish either. These brothers are some of my favorite Alpha-rich AA men. I intend to finish the series and read other books by Ms. Martin.
What a journey that this story took me on. Dante schemed and plotted until he could lock Emily down, and she didn’t let it happen without a fight. Understandably so!
Whew I was so happy when they finally got it together— because there was A LOT of shenanigans throughout these pages. And honestly I got so tired of the push and pull.
You can definitely tell this story was written a while ago because the FMC was described as “cranky & spastic” at one point. When she really was well within her rights to be aggravated with the situation she was put in
Dante Champion, was that kind of man after dealing with a major loss in his life, all he wanted was a little happiness. Getting to this happy place was trying his patience. Emily, the object of his affection however has no patience. Secondary charters were on point with advice which neither Emily or Dante wanted to take. Me. Martin handle a sensitive subject with elegance. On to book two
I enjoyed this but they were both getting on my last nerve. He was boarding on stalker material and she was in no mental capacity to be any good for anyone, yet, I thought they were adorable together. This story is fast and the physical parts are glanced over but I still enjoyed the romance of it all.
I enjoyed this story however I really got a little tired of Emily’s indecisiveness. Although Dante had resorted to an underhanded way of meeting her. She knew she desired him all along., I’m glad she finally got past all of her issues because Dante prove to be a champion I. More ways than one
Very unique and intriguing story I never thought about how to get over someone you love once they leave this earth a place like that would be wonderful in this world instead people vacation there meet new people find new friends and lovers and seek all the help and healing they need
This book has so much potential to be better. So much, but the constant rambling, the character development was lacking. It’s almost like this book rambled on so that it could set up other books in the series.
This is my first book by this author and I’ll try another to see if it’s better if not I’ll just pass all together
This author has a mastery and technique to narrate a storyline that captures your interest and pulls you into the story. She captures your heart and mind. This book's subject was one that is sometimes overlooked because it is overwhelming. Death is devastating but I imagine crippling to lose a spouse.
This was a great story about love after grief. It was a very real take on learning how to move on after losing a spouse. Dante was so good Emily but he didn’t realize her loving him back was also what he needed, too.
This story is so incomplete. I feel like I’m missing the beginning and the end. The premise of the story is a great idea but it has a lot of gaps and was poorly executed.
I enjoyed the introduction to the Champion Brothers. It was enlightening to read the story and how the author handled the grieving process. I am looking forward to reading the other two brothers.
Beautiful story! Dante was a perfect gentleman and Emily sweet with a few issues to overcome. The story kept me interested and wanting more. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!
I fall in with me some dante🥰🥰🥰 he was definitely book bae a strong loving man! ❤ Emily was going on my nervous at first I'm so loving this series the champion men 😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰loved it loved it
The story is told from a narrators perspective and the characters could be complex, but they aren’t. The story line could have gone deeper, but the details were lacking and it was hard to get immersed in the novel.
I was bored from beginning to end with this book and have no desire to struggle through the rest of the series. The character development was pretty much nonexistent and the lack of emotional depth was disappointing.
This book was okay. I didn’t like how Dante kept trying to forced her to tell her story and then would get mad when she didn’t feel comfortable. That’s not how grief works on the real world. Hopefully the brothers stories are much better.
This storyline lived up to its title! Wow! It was such a great read. It touches so many aspects of life that include healing, grief, love, family, healing, and in the end, JOY.
To be honest, this story had me going back and forth. They both got on my nerves with their unrealistic expectations. There was not enough build up and the story seemed rushed. Hope the next book in the series has a little more substance.
Excellent read with great insights on how you deal with the challenges and obstacles of facing the loss of a loved one. Thanks to therapy and support from friends it can be done. Also the fact that thing’s really are complicated with life issues.
Different, in a good way, story! I got a bit frustrated with the antics of Emily towards the end, but overall, I enjoyed the story and I’m moving on to the next one!
It was a good story, but Emily really was kind of irritating, I know she was still grieving for her husband but that was a bit much. Glad they finally got it together!
