Let me start with this: I love Melissa de la Cruz. I’ve read tons of her books. This is the 3rd Ashleys book and while I definitely enjoyed it, it is not something I’d recommend for most adults. It is a great juvenile book and enjoyable if people like Mean Girls style stories, or My Super Sweet Sixteen, but definitely on the young side. If you like spoiled preteen brats and watching them have meltdowns, this is a story for you. The head Ashley is even having her 13th birthday party and throwing a fit when her parents try to scale her party down because Mom is pregnant and dealing with feeling under the weather because of it (not to mention the bratty attitude about not being an only child anymore). The other characters of A.A. (Ashley Alioto), Lili (Ashley Li) and Lauren each have their own crises going on. A.A. is dating a guy she doesn’t like and dealing with the one she does dating an A.A. clone. Lili is dating a boy who goes to an artsy school and likes camping and God forbid wants her to go with him. Lauren is trying to find someone to go in on bringing down the Ashleys with her and brings an old friend to the salon for a makeover and discovers she’s created a monster when Sadie starts stealing guys away from their dates at Ashley’s birthday because she’s suddenly pretty. It was a quick easy read and I like watching the girls and their shenanigans. Is this how people who watch the Kardashians feel? Maybe I finally understand it. Haha
In plus sfârșitul m-a cam enervat.
This is when the series started to go downhill. I've always hated when the main character was celebrating a birthday in a book, and this kept my hatred going. It's like omg yay! She gets a car! Omg yay! She gets a boyfriend! Omg yay! She wins the lottery! What a great birthday! Spare me.
Birthday Vicious Ashley ad her mother meets with a famous party planner (Mona) to play her super sweet thirteen bday party. Mathilda (her mother) isn’t feeling great and tries to put the appointment off but Ashley convinces her to stick it out. Mona suggests a circus theme. Ashley thinks it sounds babyish but Mathilda agrees to it quickly. Then she vomits everywhere. Ashley is worried about her mom, but at the same time, she can’t help but be worried about the future of her party.
Lily sits with Max not listening to him and his friends talk about their band. She thinks about Ashley and how she’d rather be planning a party right now. Also, about how things between her and Ashley are chilly and how she thought about kicking her out of the Ashley’s but the talk of the big upcoming party saved her. Cassandra and Jezebel (Jason and Quinton’s girlfriends) are there and acting bitchy. They start talking about camping. Lily didn’t even know Max was into it. They start to put pressure on her about having not gone camping. There’s an upcoming trip, but Lily knows her parents won’t let her go. Lily decides she’ll go after Jezebel says she probably won’t be able to go and they could invite another girl.
Meanwhile A.A is at a burger joint. She’s with her boyfriend Hunter but Tri is there. She doesn’t understand what happened between them. He’s there with his new girlfriend Cecily. She thinks about both boys (comparing their kisses). Cecily attempts polite conversation about Mrs. Gamble’s. A.A decides she’s not that bad. In case we’ve forgotten II know I did) Tri kissed AA at a party then left her for Ashley. Then she broke up with him. Now he’s with Cecily. Tri is rude to AA in front of Cecily so she decides it’s on. Lauren gets a call from boyfriend 1 (Christian) and has to turn down plans with him because she made plans with boyfriend 2 (Alex). She knows she has to choose one, but doesn’t want to hurt one so this is the better solution.
An old friend of Lauren’s (Sadie) is back. Her father moved them back. They used to make fun of the Ashley’s. She worries that the Ashley’s will see them together. Sadie isn’t the kind of girl the Ashley’s would approve of. The Ashley’s wait around for her but a minute but don’t wait long. Sadie wants her and Lauren to eat lunch together, but Lauren knows that’s not possible. At the lunchroom door, she suggests they cut and go to Gino’s (an Italian deli). Plans for Ashleys party are going great with the cirrus theme. She thinks of who *won’t* be coming to the party (Sadie). We find out Sadie started a rumor that she was born a boy. Wasn’t she Lauren’s old friend? But that’s in the past. Lauren is one of them now. Ashley’s mom wants to “tone the party down”. This makes Ashley have a hissy fit. Her mom wants to just invite a few friends, have a DJ, and have a chef cook her favorite things. Her mom tho just doesn’t feel up to having all those people over. Ashley said if she can’t have the party she wants she doesn’t even want a party. Mathilda says so be it. She decides to go sailing but a boy named Cooper tells her the water is about to get real choppy. They vent to each other back and forth about their parents. Before he leaves, she invites him to her party and decides maybe she should tell her mother the smaller party is acceptable after all. All the Ashleys have a celebration at Blow Fish Sushi. As a tradition, they’re going to present Ashley with her big gift. AA confuses Christian with Alex (when he drops off Lauren). Lauren volunteers to pick up the gift. I Sadie shows up there. As Sadie head to their table, Lauren makes up an excuse and goes to the bathroom. It’s a golden helmet. She accepts it politely. The reaction is odd for her. When her friends ask about party details she brushes them off and instead talks about the new, cute, guy she meet. Before they can talk about the party further, the cake comes out. They all sing Happy Birthday and take pictures.
Sadie wants to hang out with Lauren. Unfortunately, it’s on the day when she has a big shopping trip with the Ashley’s for her party. So, she tells the Ashley’s she has to go home and help her mom pick out a new color scheme. She’s able to get Sadie into the car before the Asheley’s ee her. Sadie is instantly attracted to dex. When at her house, Lauren shows Sadie her room. She’s more into her game collection then her shoes (which annoys Lauren). She gets a call from Ashley to meet her at a boutique and make an excuse to Sadie she has to pick something her dad told her to get for her mom. She then throws in the incentive Dex will take her home.
While shopping for their birthday outfits, A.A plays fashion referee. She thinks about how secretive Ashley’s been acting but decides she doesn’t care as long as she’s not getting back together with Tri.. Then she thinks of how schitzo Lauren’s been acting when she shows up. She’s either all up under them or distant. Lily asks about bringing dates. She’s bringing Max. Lauren says she hasn’t even thought about that and admits dating two guys is horrible. She asks AA if she’s had that problem and she says no. She likes Hunter. Even tho that’s not exactly true. Then they start talking about a VIP dance area Then Cecily comes into the store and joins to them Lily and Ashley start to argue about dresses (a red velvet one in particular). “Irreplaceable” starts to play and A.A realizes she’s been replaced by a clone of herself. But she doesn’t need him. So then why does she feel so sick?
Lily makes A.A promise to try to get her mother to stay in so she can sneak off to the camping trip. Ashley makes a big deal of handing out invitations to the hopeful girls at her school. Sadie realizes what’s going on when Lily asks Lauren to borrow her invitation to give Max the details. But then Sadie isn’t stupid and knew all the time that Lauren was now “one of them”. Lauren figures maybe she can just turn Sadie into an Ashley. She’s decent-looking already. All she’ll need is the right hair, clothes, and eyes. Then it’ll be easier to bring them down with two on the inside. Lauren doesn’t think it’s fair that Ashley excluded so many of the girls. It’s not like she couldn’t afford to invite them all.so she vows to get the others invited and Sadie.
Ashley finds out she’s being brought up before the honor board.. It turns out the other girls felt excluded and went to the headmistress. Ashley finds out she could possibly be expelled. Lauren suggests Ashley invites them all. This will be a solution acceptable to the board. Ashley knows she can’t win so she agrees. But in the end, this works for her because now her mom will have to let her have the big circus-themed party. Christian texts and says he’s on his way over while Lauren is giving Sadie a new look with a professional stylist. Then Dex tells Alex she’s there. When she get downstairs they’re both there. Alex gives Lauren a textbook she left while they were together. Christian says he knows Alex from lacrosse. So, they know each other but not about her seeing them both. Close call!
Ashley has a conference with the others and drops the bomb. Her mother is having a baby (which means her life is over). On the camping trip, Lilly has a nice moment with Max staring out at the mountain. But when she hears noises and thinks its Max again coming to give her another kiss she comes face to face with a bear. When the boys check they can’t find any tracks. The other girls snicker at her. The next day the grounds are full of muddy slush. Cassandra hopes they’ll get stranded. Lilly starts to panic. Max tells her if they set out they can make it to the parking lot in under two hours. Then Jezzebel’s father can pick them up and take Lilly back first. Jezebel says she guesses “she forgot” to tell him. She guesses they’ll have to. Max says his dad could be there by noon but Lily knows this will be too late and she’ll get found out by Nancy.
Lily’s mom finds out. Janine (A,A’s mom) finds out and is mad at her. Now Ashley might be mad at Lilly and never forgive her if she can’t come to her party. A,A’s mom says she ought to not let *her* go to the party. A.A tells her don’t even think about it. It’s important sh and lily be there. Her mom says it’s because of Hunter. At that moment tho, A.A realizes she has to break up with Hunter because she just doesn’t like him as much as Tye. Lily’s mother says she can’t go to the party. She says she’ll stay in the rest of the year and watch her sisters. Her other says maybe maybe not, but she can’t see Max anymore. She’ll just have to sneak out.
Cooper takes Ashely for a rude in his boat and she tells her about having a new brother or sister. He says he wishes he had one. She tells him all about her party. He thinks it sounds amazing. But when she gives him an invitation, he says he doesn’t know. He tells her he’s not really a party kind of guy. He says he doesn’t know if he’ll fit in but he’ll see. Ashley is attracted to the fact that Cooper doesn’t act like he has money that she decides she has got to find a way to convince him to come to her party. Lauren and Sadie are out picking out contacts (for Sadie) when they run into Christian. In a bitch move, Sadie says she thought her boyfriend’s name was Alex. Christian says Alex is a cool guy and then leaves. He then texts her he’s out Lauren wonders (earlier) why she doesn’t like the Ashleys but she has more fun with them than she does Sadie (who it’s been like pulling teeth to make over). Lily‘s mom comes home and finds white flowers he sent her with the note “see you Saturday”, gets pissed off, and takes her phone and laptop. She forbids her to use any phone or computer in the house. She also tells her she won’t be going to school for a week so she can’t use her friends’ phones either.
The Ashley’s have a meeting. None of the boys seem to know Cooper. He doesn’t go to Tye’s school. He doesn’t go to Alex’s school. Maybe he goes to max the boys say. They tell her now that he has her number all she can do is wait. Ashley leaves to go to the marina to find Cooper. Alex and Lauren start to have a tense conversation about her still having feelings for Christian. Tri asks to have a word with AA. He tells her he heard she broke up with Hunter. He tells her he broke up with Cecily. He hoped she’d be pleased with this. Before she can say anything, she sees Alex leave and tell Lauren to have a nice life. Lilly is able to come to the party with her father for two hours Before Ashley makes her appearance, she notices A.A. They go to look for Max but. Lily notices Cassandra and jezzel and Jason and Quint who’ve knocked over Ashley’s cake (and have eaten some of it
Lauren decides to follow A A’s moms rules so she 1 Goes to the party looking HOT 2 looks around for Christiain so she can play it cool. (But she doesn’t see him). She almost falls into a firepit and trips and heads her head on a pole. Christian grabs her arm. They tell each other they miss each other and Christian says if she doesn’t want an exclusive relationship he doesn’t care. She tells him she does and she and Alex broke up. There ‘an awkward moment. Then Alex shows up with a girl on his arm. It’s Sadie. Ashley makes her entrance on a high wire and gets lowered to a throne. Lilly finally sees Max but he’s mad at her for saying the camping trip was the worst thing she ever did. She tries to talk to him but he walks off. Tri finally tells AA what’s really on his mind after making her think he just wants to play video games. He says that he was going to break up with Ashely but she convinced him to still pretend to be her boyfriend until after some event. He was going to ask her out but then she started going with Hunter. Now AA doesn’t know how she feels about him. He waited until all this time went by and he was so soft he let Ashley control him. Is that really want she wants?
Ashley gets her revenge on Max’s friends by giving them some of the special cake (which is her dog's cake). Ashley gets her special gift a scooter, Driven by Cooper. Lauren finds out the guy she’s with is Todd. She says she dumped Alex because he keep talking about her. She told Todd from some other girl. Sadie has now turned into a monster (fickle, self-centered, spoiled
My Thoughts Even though the party sounded fly, the story was on the ‘cotton candy” side. I didn’t feel bad for Lauren in either scenario. Christian shouldn’t have come back to her, but I’m not surprised that he did. I’m not surprised either that he plan with Sadie backfired. Now I’m just curious how she thinks she’s going to take down the Ashley’s now that she’s gotten attached to them. At this point, I’m kind of rooting for Sadie to take them all down and do what Lauren obviously isn’t going to be able to. I think also that Lily should let Max go. It’s the dumbest thing (and I should know) when people get mad and hurt because you don’t like what they like. What is this even to get hurt about? Then there’s AA and Trio. I just don’t know. She made a lot of good points about was this really what she wanted someone who could be controlled so easily. I actually did tho think Cooper’s surprise was cute showing up on the bike. For a minute, I was starting to think he was shady but I like him for Ashley.. Rating: 5d).
Ashley Spencer is about to turn thirteen, so it's time to start planning her super-birthday bash that will leave the uninvited bawling in their tracks.
But, as it turns out, it seems that her parents don't exactly have the same plans.
Unfortunately, A.A., Lili, and Lauren all have their own problems to worry about. A.A. has to deal with the guy who broke her heart while dating someone else, Lili is lying to her parents and everyone else for the guy she likes, and Lauren has to deal with juggling not just one, but two boyfriends.
What's a girl to do?
Contrary to the title and jacket cover, BIRTHDAY VICIOUS, book three in THE ASHLEYS series, is not all about Ashley Spencer's party. There's much more going on than that, mostly relating to all of the girls' lovelifes and family.
However, unlike THE CLIQUE and other rich-girl books, the characters in this book continue to develop as the series goes on, making it extremely enjoyable and not just for tweens, either. This is definitely recommended to all fans of the previous books, and if you haven't read those yet, I suggest you do so before picking this one up.
This is my favorite in the series so far. I still hate Lauren but the character development in the Ashleys was good. I'm really starting to dislike boy magnet Ashley. She was getting boring and whiny. But the head Ashley and Asian Ashley were good.
The head Ashley is trying to solidify her position as she fears she might lose it soon. She plans to host a huge birthday party as a solution. But her budding relationship with a boy she met in the docks might change her plans... Asian Ashley is trying to make HER relationship her boyfriend work. Even though they go around in very different circles, attend very different schools, and have different friends, she refuses to give him up. She's even going to lie to her mother to hang out with him. But how far is she willing to go?
Lauren, on the other hand, was juggling two boys she doesn't deserve and the Ashleys and her old friend who returned. That pretty much sums up the whole book.
Ashley Spencer lives in a reality where she gets things her way no matter what, so when her mom decides to cancel her party, she is shocked and frustrated. Don’t her parents understand how important her party is to her?! Or even care? No, she concluded that her parents no longer love her. But she learns that things won’t always go her way but that’s ok.
Birthday Vicious is about a group of friends who are really popular. They are all named Ashley except for Lauren. She has been accepted into the group but she is still trying to fit in. The Ashley's have nicknames, Ashley, Lili, and A.A. Ashley is hosting a birthday party. But she has many different problems. The other Ashleys are having boy problems. A text-to-self connection is with Lauren because I don't like to hurt peoples feelings at all. I don't really like making them mad or anything. I would recommend this book to people who love books about groups of friends. Also people who have read the first two books. I would rate this 5 stars because it was really good. I liked it a whole lot.
So this book starts out with Ashley being a spoiled brat, Lili being obsessed with her boyfriend, A.A. and her love/hate relationship, and Lauren still two-timing two guys.
I was most interested in reading the parts that didn't involve Lili, though, because I was rather annoyed with her. She does portray the typical twelve year old who thinks life can not go on without her crush, but that was the only thing her perspective was about the entire time. Then I realized she was supposed to be the oldest, since she's already thirteen, but she's really such a baby!
Besides that and a few too obvious plot turns, I did enjoy the book overall.
This book is the third in the series. It's siimilar to the Clique series(a group of popular girls and a wannabe). In this group, all the girls are named Ashley. The wannabe-one-time loser, Lauren, desperetly wants "IN". In this book, Ashley Spencer, Queen Bee, wants her birthday to be a super one-in-a-lifetime momment that everybody WON'T forget. Ever. So she host a Sweet thirteen , B-day party.
I think , that personally, this book is the MAJOR 'down' part of the series, if that makes any sense. This book wasn't as good as the last one OR the first one. CliqueRulesForever!
It is kinda hard searching for this book but I got it while on vacation anyways.
Ashley Spencer is planning her birthday party & she wants it to be super fabulous. But her mom might not agree. The other Ashleys weren't any help. Lauren's too busy with her two boyfriends, Christian & Alex. Same goes to Lili & A.A.
Lauren's friend from the past came into the picture & boy! how she miss hanging out with the Ashleys! But she can't let Sadie to feel left out & do a makeover for her instead. But the makeover doesn't make Sadie a better person.
This book is an okay one. Light story, quick read.
Recommended for middle school. Girls who like the Clique series will love this series about a group of seventh-grade girls in an exclusive private school. The three most popular are all named Ashley, and they rule the school, along with a wannabe named Lauren. Money, brand names and popularity are all-important. In this volume, Ashley Spencer is planning to spare no expense for her thirteenth birthday party and boyfriend misunderstandings abound.
Okay, I really don't think I'm going to read this one. It looks like Gossip Girl for tweens. The main character is planning her Super-Sweet Thirteen (yes, thirteen) on page 1. The quotes that preface the story are from Cher of "Clueless," and 50 Cent. If I thought that was tongue-in-cheek, it could be REALLY funny...but I think it's serious. Anyone read any of The Ashleys? Could be good for fans of the Clique series.
When Ashley has her super sweet thirteenth birthday will it become a little get-together if Ashley can't convince her mom to keep with circus theme? Sadie has come back but does she like the new Lauren? Lauren is having trouble keeping her boyfriends seperate while Lili is super worried about the secret camping trip. Or A.A., Can she not handle Tri being so rude.
The third of the Clique knockoff series, The Ashleys. As I get farther and farther into these books, I actually think they're way better then the Clique. In this installment, Ashley, the Queen Bee, fights to keep her place at the top.
This was so entertaining. A 13 year old is throwing a party worth more than my family's life savings. Kind of sickening, to be honest. I laughed at the part where Ashley freaks out because she's 12 and hasn't been kissed yet. Like, calm down :P
In the beginning this book was so boring, but then I got so curious that I kept reading. As a result, this book ended really good. Ashley got her boy Cooper and an amazing birthday party. Lauren got Christain back.A.A. got Tri back and Lili got to go to Ashley's party even though she was grounded.
This was the first Ashleys book I read, I found it at the library in theb "New releases" section. I really liked it, and at the time, it was a new genre for me. I really like Melissa de la Cruz's writing style.
When I read this, I was so confused and really, really disliked the book. (I realized then that I bought the third book! I thought this was the first!) I was young back then and I was having a Clique hangover and wanted to read more books like that.
