Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

Zoro fights Pica and defeats in the most fun way possible and then there is the emotional scene and the fight between Luffy and Doflamingo and its f***ing epic no spoilers but yeah he unlocks a new gear and when the transformation happens the fight picks up fast and they fight like there is no tomorrow, massive attacks and one upping the another meanwhile people trying to escape as the string closes around them. The endgame is here and its just wow.

Supreme king haki vs. supreme king haki! Yet again Luffy is in an epic climatic battle on an island that turns out to not be what it seems, but this time with Doflamingo the stakes do seem high. It's been years in the making, and I'm really enjoying this arc. The backstory with the Celestial Dragons, and Traflagar Law. Of course, Zolo's fight. Now.... GEAR FOUR!

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Dressrosa ends, as Luffy looms ever closer to becoming the KING OF THE PIRATES!!!

The cage begins to close. The razor-wires pull forward and slice through everything, even stone, certainly flesh. Damn overkill, I say: Doflamingo's power is plain absurd even by the standards of this setting.

And so is Trafalgar Law's, but in a more fun way, I think: I enjoy seeing him come up with new ways of using his teleportation and switching about and how he tricks the enemy around with it. Still not sure how it makes the gamma knife, though. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with teleportation...

Great call-back with Bellamy, to his and Luffy's first encounter. A lot less awesome this time and far more sad. I feel sorry for the guy.

But nevermind all that, Gear Fou-

No, you know what? Nevermind that too. You don't need to be told how awesome yet hilarious the power is. Instead let's talk about Doflamingo's counter, and what that sets up. Devil Fruits can awaken! Powerful as they are, they're asleep, dormant... dreaming, perhaps, putting out only a minuscule part of their true power. Only when the wielder is ready do they let go the rest. A single panel opened the floodgates of our imagination. What would Luffy's awakening be like? He's the main character after all, so it should be safe to say that Gum-Gum Fruit would also awaken, before long...

A seven-year build-up begins here.

After being on the fence/let down by the last volume, Volume 78 was a marked improvement! The last of the Don Quixote Family officers are down in fairly satisfying ways. Again I get how they’re trying to be sweet by not letting Rebecca fight and become corrupted but she was a trained gladiator who had a talent of getting her opponents to be disqualified and surely they could have used that here. Robin’s a bit better but a more active role would have been nice.

The real draw is Traffy and Luffy taking on Mingo and after seeing Mingo be pretty much invincible for so long it's nice to see him start to take hits. As OP as I thought Law was in Punk Hazard, his backstory and struggles throughout the arc have endeared me to him. I appreciated that he managed to get a few good moves in despite being as maimed as he was by Mingo . The real star of the volume is our protagonist. Luffy’s Gear 4 form is goofy but I appreciate how he’s not heroic looking but he’s still intimidating. It makes him all the funniest of a shonen protagonists. And regardless of his looks he gets the job done and is hurting Mingo. Plus there’s that iconic shot of him stopping Mingo’s foot (seen it a lot but always lacked context).

Not as good as two volumes ago but a step up and feels appropriately climatic.

Volume 78: Chapter 776-785
Saga 8: Dressrosa
Arc 27: Dressrosa

5 straight Double Page of Zoro's awesomeness in defeating Pica 🔥🔥

Both Pica and Diamante was defeated by Zoro and Kyros respectively. Bellamy also defeated by Luffy. Luffy and Law continued to fight Doflamingo and Trebol. Law is worn out but able to defeat Trebol. Doflamingo have a Conqueror Haki (Haoshoku no Haki) since he is a kid. Trebol, Pica and Diamante are the one who raised him to be a pure evil, to be a king.

The Tontatta tribe managed to destroy all the Smile factories. The birdcage surrounding Dressrosa was keep shrinking and destroyed eveything in its path.

Luffy unlocked new gear, Gear 4: Bounce Man. He managed to overpower Doflamingo. But, Doflamingo have already awakened his devil fruit.

kyros managed to knock out diamanté. the last conk on the head was by scarlet’s tombstone. 😭

the factory was destroyed by the dwarfs and franky.

luffy knocked out bellamy. while fighting, law’s arm was cut off. luffy managed to throw law to robin to take care.

luffy’s energy was sapped after using gear four. so he requested 10 minutes of rest and the people in the colloseum helped him. sabo stepped in too.

After so many volumes of very slow progress, it was nice to start seeing a lot of POVs finish off their conflict in this volume. It felt like there was a lot more progression in this volume! I also don't know if it is all quite over yet with how it ended, but I am hopeful we are super close!

“I understand that I chose the wrong man to idolize...and how pitiful that makes me. If I’m gonna be an idiot, I’ve gotta see that choice through to its end”

Huh...didn’t expect that from Bellamy.

I reccommend this book because It is exactly like the show with how Luffy and Law are fighting against Doflamingo, and how Luffy used his Gear 4 to finally defeat Doflamingo and save Dressrosa. I reccommend this book because it is action packed with the fight against Doflamingo and how they're struggling against his string devil fruit. It is also very emotional when Luffy first seen Law's "dead body." Overall, I reccommend this book to all anime and manga lovers.

I’m always a bigger fan of towards the end of arcs. It’s much more epic this way. Like gear four is absolutely insane. I’ve been on the edge of my seat this whole volume.
