The underground mouse-city of Tira-Nor is threatened by the cunning rat warriors Kreeg and his band of cut-throats. Only JaRed, son of ReDemec (Runt), recognizes the danger to their woodland realm. But JaRed has been driven into exile by the city's mad king, and his former friends are ordered to kill him on sight. How can one mouse make a difference against such terrible odds?
Beset by enemies in strange and lonely world, rejected and betrayed by the very mice he once saved, JaRed is about to discover the hard truth about himself. And it may cost him his life.

…I had not realised in my first few reads of this book how dark it gets. JaRed's assertion of faith in ElShua from the opening chapters of Runt the Brave is challenged, torn down and stamped upon in this book. Death is a prominent theme; it is everywhere and it is terrible. The climactic confrontations at the end are the most memorable moments in this whole series, and it hurts to read them.
Runt the Hunted is a fitting second-half to Runt the Brave and ties off the JaRed episode of the Legends of Tira-Nor in a contextually appropriate way.
