As Luffy and the Straw Hats battle it out with the Doflamingo family, we flash back to the childhood of Trafalgar Law. What made him the man he is today, and what is the cause of the grudge he bears against Doflamingo?
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

I know things about Kanjuro now that I had no idea of way back when - when I first read this chapter where he debuted - but I could swear even then I saw something amiss with him. Well, now I know exactly why. Now I see every sign. Now everything makes sense.
One of those great clues of just how long a game Oda is playing, how well he's prepared for the future ahead. Even as the main story arc is in its full swing, bigger gears trundle on behind the scenes, where none can see until years after the fact. Few authors could pull off such a thing. This story really is one of a kind.
Also, Usopp redeems himself... and then starts an uncomfortably long flashback right in the middle of the climax. Some good, some bad.
The final battle with Doflamingo is here and they cross all obstacles tor each to him and we learn of the tragic past of Doflamingo and why he harbors such resentment and also the backstory of Law and how he is connected to the former's brother and how that relationship became the reason for their enmity and in some other place Zoro and other are fighting members of this family. This arc is just wow, non stop action and crazy twists and fights and high octane energy, Oda on another level here.
Luffy heads towards Doflamingo with Law, Zoro vs Peeka continues, Tontatta Army vs Doflamingo crew, Sugar vs Usopp continues, Franky vs Senor Pink continues, Sabo vs Admiral Fujitora continues, Colosseum Army vs Doflamingo crew, Robin, Cavendish and Bartolomeo vs Gladius, Rebecca vs Diamante, Kyros vs Diamante, Law vs Doflamingo starts, Luffy vs Doflamingo starts, Luffy vs Bellamy, Princess Mansherry is discovered, The past of King Riku is revealed, Doflamingo's past started being revealed, more of Law's past is revealed, Corazon is introduced.
I really love the action and the information revealed in this volume. Plus seeing Law's past again was depressing.

DRESSROSA ARC - PART 6 1. my greatest joy throughout this arc is bartolomeo, who worships the straw hats almost as much as i do
2. maaaaaaaan, i get so hyped with the battles. sabo and the admiral guy, kyros and diamante, law and luffy and doflamingo, EVEN VIOLA HELPING USOPP WITH HIS ATTACK AGAINST SUGAR - him mathing the width and height of the panes of the window, the wind, HE IS SO COOL WHEN HE WANTS TO BE
3. LAW EXCHANGING HIMSELF WITH DOFLAMINGO MANNNNNNNNNN I LOVE THIS GUY THE WAY HE LOOKED UP FROM MINGO'S SEAT HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWT
4. i hate celestial dragons, but i find it very cool the way doflamingo grew up, being tortured and shamed for being noble by birth because of how everyone hates celestial dragons. i think they all should be beat senseless, but i find it interesting how both sides, the slaves and the nobility, can experience cruelty and gruesomeness depending on what place they've landed in. because has doflamingo, as a child, deserved to be treated that way? to be hanged from a window and shot with arrows just because he couldn't help what he was born as? ESPECIALLY with st. don quixote homing realising he isn't any different to other humans. it's the same re-occuring situation for each and every society and ethnic group. in a way, funnily enough - i think doflamingo actually had an inkling of connection or affection to traffy, for all his skewed family of officers. in a way, he doesn't really discriminate between human and celestial dragon anymore, did he?
also - law's history T_T i'm sorry i asked man please take away this pain
This volume is a real damn rollercoaster and perhaps a good representation of One Piece as a whole. You get the occasional goofy moments (Franky vs Senor Pink and all the ladies in the area getting weak in the knees at the combatants’ manliness). You get the cheer worthy moments (the Tontatta dwarves freeing their comrades). The epic moments (GOD USOPP making an impossible shot to take down Sugar again, Luffy finally landing a blow on Doflamingo, etc). The heartwarming moments (Rebecca reuniting with her father after remembering his true identity). And of course ALL THE TRAGIC BACKSTORIES (Oda Sensei out there like Oprah saying "YOU GET A TRAGIC BACKSTORY AND YOU GET A TRAGIC BACKSTORY).
While I won’t say I completely feel bad for Mingo as he is a cruel bastard and an ex Celestial Dragon (most of whom may have had it coming) but it was still a bit overkill to go after his family or at least him and his brother as badly as they did (to be fair the Celestial Dragons set them up for that). Trafalgar Law’s story is much more tragic and messed up IMO because he didn’t do anything to deserve it (not his fault the government knew about environmental hazards and kept going). The end of the volume suggests he and Mingo’s brother are going to discuss something to make his backstory even worse.
There’s just so much happening this volume to really address it all but this is by far one of the best volumes of the Dressrosa arc thus far, setting a high bar for the rest but I get the feeling Oda Sensei will still deliver more on ALL THE TRAGIC BACKSTORIES and the showdown with the Don Quixote pirates.
It’s not One Piece if we don't stop just before a final conflict and tell some tragic backstory. But seriously seeing the background of Law and Doflamingo was a bit heart wrenching. I'm excited to see it continue in the next volume! Other than that, this was very much of the same as the last couple volumes. A lot of POV switches and a lot of fighting. A lot of slow progress. Fortunately it seems that things are just about ready to hit the climax of this arc soon.
Not surprising at all that Law is one of the "D". And Oda, you really need to stop using the same "a character has his or her home/country destroyed by the villain / a character's past involved with the villain and he or she is seeking revenge" plot.
One Piece is rehashing the same stories with new skins and because everyone has invested probably years of hearing the story they likely can justify it through time. While I'm not denying this is good stuff, it's not something we've not seen in any other story, especially here in One Piece. At this point you'd be hard pressed to find someone who DOESN'T have a tragic backstory.
The thing about Doflamingo...there is no sympathy from me. It's not his fault, but then again it is. *shrug*
I fear that when larger showdowns occur it will be more of the same. Showing us how bad Teech had it etc. etc. If that's the case it will put a real bad taste in my mouth. And while I understand, after all they ARE pirates, ya gotta` do something new occasionally.
And I'm aware I'm reading One Piece in rapid succession and that too can contribute to my experience. And and and I'm of the mind it's overrated going in. Totally biased just in the opposite direction most people go for this series.
Doflamingo might genuinely be my favourite villain. He’s out there living his most villainy life, you know, overthrowing the existing ruler, taking over the country, become a warlord and running a lucrative black market business. All standard stuff.
But then he becomes threatened, everyone he tricked learns the truth, and what does he decide? Ah hell, just eliminate everyone on the island, that way no one else will learn and I’ll take them all down with me.
Then you learn about his back story...and how he’s scorned celestial dragon who happened to have a woke dad, who wanted him to learn what a regular, extremely unprivileged life was...and for the family to be hunted down and everyone trying to kill them. So tragic...but so well crafted.
Y realmente lo he disfrutado mucho.

Lantas, akhirnya Doflamingo pun membunuh ayahnya.

This arc has some real ups and downs for me... And even if it's technically really well paced, it still feels like kind of a drag at times and I don't know why. Still though, there were such amazing moments in this section again! Including probably the greatest Sniper-Scene ever conceived. Like, Hell yeah was I cheering!
at last kyros and rebecca are reunited!! aww i'm so happy for them <3 law telling luffy he's the worst and luffy saying "hey, you're in the same generation" made me laugh, he's such a doofus. and we're finally getting law's backstory let's goooo!
The way oda manages to caputure humanity through his characters and storytelling is just amazing. I was really moved by what we saw of Law's backstory. i was impressed by the complexity of doflamingo's character, and how his past effects his current beliefs and actions. Also kyros is a DILF
