I dream of Emily…

I dream of Tuscany…

I dream of seeing her in a white dress…

But she’s slipping further and further away from me, her will bending to those who seek only to hurt her--to own her.

I crave to feel Skull’s blood splash against my skin, to peel the fleshy ink from his bones, and I know that time is coming.
Soon.

I’m at the end of my chain and, with some help, he will suffer for all of the pain he’s caused.

I won’t stop.
Not until she’s safe and he can no longer leave his fingerprints on the world.

I am on EGDE! 🖤

Been on edge during the entire book. Not a single dull moment. Everything was dark and twisted and so deliciously addictive. It was sick. And I loved it.

Emily’s and Jai’s story keep breaking my heart, and yet they do what they have to do to survive. To protect each other. Even when monsters like Skull takes what doesn’t belong to him.
I want to smash his head in. And yet I am compelled to continue reading whenever he enters the room. He is such a captivating, sick villain, and I root for Emily and Jai so bloody hard. I hate him right alongside those two precious characters. That’s good writing. That takes skill. I loved it.

Banging bloody book.

I am gutted. 🖤 GIVE ME MORE!

The action just keeps coming! This story is unpredictable, gritty and heart-wrenching. To say this book is suspenseful is a gross understatement, in fact, the suspense is killing me!

The questions, oh the questions I MUST have answered, are endless. Just when I think all will be lost, our hero prevails. Then all hell breaks loose and I am again left wondering how can any of this end well? The ending of each instalment leaves me begging for the next.

Guts & Glass picks up the story of The New York Crime Kings where Ink & Bone left us. Jai, Joel, Emily and Monique are in an impossible situation with no apparent means of escape. Skull is playing dirty, psychotic games with no end in sight. The characters in this story are large and bold, yet still, hold elements of normality. Enough to be relatable.

Thank goodness there is only one more novella, Death & Dust to go, as I don't think my heart can take any more of Ms Madi's mayhem!

Now what?! Skull has them all at his mercy and it's just a matter of time until they'll be killed, if they can't find a way out first.

Although Emily isn't locked behind bars, she might as well be, living in this gilded cage. Is it a curse or a blessing that she's special to Skull?! At least she's still alive because of it, but what kind of life is this without Jai by her side?!
'I'm a prisoner in a place where monsters no longer lie under the frame of the bed, but nestle under the sheets with me instead...and this monster is no figment of my imagination.'

Skull is an enigma but we already got glimpses of his broken heart and sadness that he's hiding behind a thick wall of anger and evilness. I must say that I feel really sorry for what he's lost and I get that he doesn't give a shit about anything since the only people he cared most about are gone.
The only thing that bothered me a bit in this book was his gullibility because no matter how 'special' someone was, it was so out of character for him to believe everything that person said. He couldn't have survived for so long in this violent world if this was really the case.
'”He who casts the first stone sets off the ripple effect.”'

I love this series and its characters and I will stick to it until the end but this book felt a bit like dragging the story out a while longer. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it a lot and it was almost as good as the previous ones but I didn't understand some of Skull's actions – no matter how crazy he is or especially because he's that crazy. So why would he keep Jai and Joel alive?! I won't spoil you this book but I just wanted to say that some things just did not really add up for me (i.e. where were all the guards and people at the end?!).

Just so you know, there's a cliffhanger at the end, but I believe that if you kept around so far, you'll be like me and read the next book anyway, no matter what.
'”You should know by now, that you can't outrun me. I'll always catch you.”'

Emily is getting close to the edge as a play thing of Skull she is slowly caving under his relentless pursuit of her, never easing up he is determined to break her. With her lover imprisoned below her and his brother and his partner caught up in Skulls game can they overcome one last battle to win the war? Jai is seething, teeming with his rage as he watches Skull erode his Kittens strength. Skull has lost his mind with his need to own her and make her love him, confusing the past with the present. Can the Stone brothers rescue their women and beat end the torment once and for all?

Book six is action packed and maybe one of the darkest in this series, more blood is spilled and not everyone will survive as they fight to survive and be victorious. That ending slayed me... will Emily ever have her happily ever after in Italy?

A four and a half star read.

Jai Stone, a man who is looking for retribution for his families pain and destruction. He’s a police officer, but is suspended after getting into trouble at work. He hit superior after the case of the man who destroyed his family is taken from the police department. He feels like the man, Skull, will not get what is coming to him. He has another idea of how to get to him and destroy him, but will it destroy Jai in the process.

Skull, Damien Wolf, a man who was destroyed and now rains destruction down on anyone he wants. He is rich, powerful, cruel, and deadly. Drugs, underground fighting, sex trade, it doesn’t matter, he will make money off of it. A criminal who runs New York City without any trouble from anyone.

Emily Shepherd, a young woman who is fighting to make ends meet and taking nursing classes to have a better life. She’s close to being done and getting her nursing license. She has to take another exam and is studying on her tablet on the subway home from working a late shift at the hospital. She bumps into Jai when he is exiting the train and drops her tablet. Against her better judgement, she follows him to make him pay her to get it repaired. One bad decision leads to another on her part and she is now fighting for her life.

In Guts & Glass, the sixth book in the series, they are in Skull’s compound and there is no light at the end of the tunnel for Jai, Emily, Joel or Monique, they are at the mercy of Skull and they can’t find a way to get free and stay alive in the process. The pain and destruction that Skull rains down is dark and cruel, he has no respect for anyone. It’s obvious that Jai and Emily will do whatever they can to save the other, but will they get the chance to be together again? They are just surviving and still trying to find a way to escape and get away from Skull, but they have to destroy him in order to flee him.

OH MY! I did a marathon read of the New York Crime King Series, over the weekend to catch up on the books before Guts & Glass. I became immersed in Jai and Emily’s world as I read: #1 Blood & Rust, #2 Sin & Secrets, #3 Smoke & Metal, #4 Rage & Bullets, and #5 Ink & Bone. I’d read the first book in this series under the original title, Broken, Round One, and had not gotten to the others yet. Wow! After reading all of them and then reading Guts & Glass, I am now in a hurry for the next book! I wish the last book were coming out sooner than March 20. I’ve fallen in love with Jai, Emily and Joel. I want to have the rest of the story now!!

If you like strong women who do not back down when they are being threatened, even if they are scared, they you need to pick up this series and read them. I have to say that the New York Crime King Series will be at the top of my reading list for this year. Even with it being the beginning of a new year, this one will stay with me for a while. I give Guts & Glass a 5 star review. This book was probably the hardest to read, but easily a top read for me.

Where to even start with Guts & Glass? Skyla, what are you doing to us? Leaving us with that ending was so cruel. I feel I need to start a Facebook page just to get myself through as I'm sure others are shocked by that ending. Guts & Glass is the 6th book in the New York Crime Kings series and it did not disappoint.

I find it incredibly hard reviewing books that are in series'. I will say if you have not read the other books do not read this review! I don't give spoilers in my reviews ever, but I may mention something that happened in previous book which could ruin the story for you. Guts & Glass picks up straight from Ink & Bone. I love that there's no gaps in the story and feel it flows better. So much so, I can see me re-reading the whole serious once its finished back to back.

We are back in Jai, Emily, Joel and Monique at Skulls compound/home and things aren't looking great for our guys and girls. I often get to thinking, what else could possibly go wrong for these guys and Skyla always manages to whip something else out of the bag to shock us with. There's plenty of Skull and Emily time in this book - I know he's the bad guy but I love me some Skull! I still want there to be a prequel featuring just Skull. I'd definitely buy it!

The pace in this book was quicker I felt that the rest. Not rushed, I don't mean Skyla has lost her writing knack. No I mean more fast paced, lots happening. That little slip of information towards the end about Joel. I didn't see it coming! The party and what Joel had to do. I felt Jai wasn't as pushed in this book as poor Joel. I also admit I like Joel more than Jai. But both are great boy candy!

As I can't mention spoilers I will say this is a must read in the New York Crime Kings series if you have read the rest. If you are just discovering  the series, you need to read them all. These are great short reads (About 1-2 hours each) and so much happens to keep your interest and wet your appetite. Rolls on the next book so we know what happens. I do hope we aren't waiting too long!

Guts & Glass gets a solid 4 stars from me. Probably the best book in the series so far. Skyla as always has a huge fan here and I can't wait to see what happens next. Please don't keep us waiting long.

This will have you screaming with every ounce of rage one can muster. Not making it out from Skull’s clutches was always a possibility. The hatred and vengeance is all consuming as Skull unleashes his bloodlust towards Jai and Joel. There is one weakness that he will poke at with Jai and the ire that encompasses Jai radiates from the pages of this book.

With an all consuming hatred for Skull you will push yourself to read one more page when you should be sleeping, if you are able to. The feeling of never ending will be at the forefront as each consequence of one decision or another is unleashed, leaving you exhausted. The onslaught of bloodshed, shame and an unforgivable circumstance will leave your heart beating with fury. The pull of revenge will sit deep inside your being, leaving you completely breathless, until the next page and it starts all over again. For the sake of sanity and survival you won’t want to stop reading

This is the sixth book in this series and they must be read in order. This series keeps getting better and better. This book was definitely sadder than the other books. Emily is doing what she needs to do to survive but she isn’t happy about. She worries that Jai won’t think of her the same way. This book does end on a harder cliff hanger than the others. I can’t wait for the next one. I feel for both Jai and Emily it seems as if they will never get their happily ever after. They are always either torn apart by Skull or on the run from him. I can only hope that skull finally gets what is coming to him. I am on pins and needles waiting to see what happens in the next book. Skyla Madi is one hell of an author and I look forward to reading more books by her in future. I have fallen for these characters and I am invested in them now. I highly recommend this whole series.

Its going to be impossible !! Surely they have no way of escaping Skull ! They are going to need a miracle. Skull is at his most evil in this book, he's twisted and psychotic!

He has them all in his clutches and he will make Emily his if its the last thing he does.

Seeing Jai is torture for Emily, Skull is certainly making them both pay. Skull's obsession with Emily is building to an all time high ! Is she able to use this to her advantage ? What other options does she have. Can she lie and make him believe her to save them all ?

This is definitely the darkest book of the series so far, I just cant see how its going to end positively for any of them.

Just when you think they may win,,,, they seem to loose !!

Getting to the end of this book is bitter sweet ! Im so excited for the final chapter to Emily and Jai story but at the same time do not want this to end !! My heart is hurting !

Increiblemente maravilloso! I loved this book. Not only was there tons of angst, the author threw in shocking surprises and twists to the story.

There was just something about this book that I loved!! I devoured this.

Every so often a book comes around that speaks to your soul, and captures your full attention. That is what "Guts & Glass" did for me. I adore this book.

If you like your books on the interesting and wild side then this one will not disappoint.

Don't get me wrong: Is a tantalising hot read, exposing you to feel raw emotions, romance, love, sensual.

"Guts & Glass" is both fairly dark, gritty romantic-suspense stories that'll keep you on the edge of your seat.

My all-time favorite book boyfriend is back! Jai Stone is still my number one. The way he carries himself even when he has been beaten down. While I can't wait for the final installment in March, I can honestly say I don't want this series to end.

I fell in love with Ms. Madi's work while reading Blood & Rust. Emily and Jai were my first impressions of Ms. Madi's work and I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed watching her flourish as an author. The more books into this series, the more complex her characters have gotten. It has been a fun and wonderful ride, that for sure. I will truly miss my Jai, but I can hope that one day this series will be on Audible, as Jai and Emily's story would be amazing to listen to.

And now my public service announcement!!!!

JUST DIE ALREADY SKULL, YOU EVIL, VILE MAN!

Guts & Glass is the 6th installment of the New York Crime Kings series. It's easily the darkest of the series so far. And it, once again, ends in cliffhanger. Everything comes to a head in this book with Jai, Joel, Monique and Emily being kept at Skull's compound. It's a fight for survival with some twists and turns. It's violent and definitely could trigger some readers. Once again the writing is great and held my interest but I'm glad that book 7 is the conclusion to a great, but drawn out, series.

I received a copy of this book for free. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This series, Skyla is like a word master. Just when you think it cannot get any better she goes and gives us Guts & Glass. This story is so unpredictable. When you think one thing is going to happen, the story goes in the other direction. It is raw, dark, heart stopping and suspenseful. Guts & Glass picks up where Ink & Bone left us. Jai, Emily, Joel and Monique are in an impossible situation with no apparent means of escape. Skull is playing psychotic games with no end in sight. It kept be so captivated, in one way I am happy that there is only one more book to go as I don’t know how much more I can take, in another I’m sad that this series is ending.

I received this book for free as an ARC and I am willing leaving a review for it. I started this book series right after the first book had been published. I was hook immediately and although I had no idea how many books would be included in it all together, I did everything I could to be aware when the next book was due to be published because I knew that I had to purchase and read it as soon as it was. Each book of this series had me on the edge of my seat and desperately waiting to find out what would happen next!

This is one of my favorite series at the moment. And I’m waiting for the grand finale like a mad woman.

Cause ... My poor heart. I don’t know how much more it can take.
This story is so intense. And the endings are always leaving me with this horrible feeling of “why?? Why does it have to be this way?”
Now I’m left with this urgent desire to read the next one. And I’m pretty sure I have to wait a while for it.
Jesus. I can’t stand the idea of this story not ending the way I dream. I hope to God we’ll get the happy ending, or help me God, I will have a stroke.
I don’t know how you do it girl (yeah Skyla, I’m talking to you). How you manage to write these books and sleep at night thinking about them all the time. I would loose my damn mind.
Lucky for me, I’m not in your shoes. I just get to enjoy your stories, so I can’t wait for the next one. The final one, I hope. Cause I don’t know if I can handle more than one at this point.
