WARNING: Book 4 is full of love, pain, and redemption. This book contains Domestic Violence and non-consensual sex between spouses. It also has a HEA. This book is part of a series, therefore best if read in order.
Geoffrey “Frey” Hartley- soldier, helicopter pilot, boxer, martial arts expert - is the biggest, baddest Gargoyle shapeshifter in the Stone Society. After too much death and destruction, he hung up his dog tags. Now he is the owner of Lion Hart Dojo and Gym. For almost six hundred years, Frey has spent his life protecting humans while secretly praying for a family. Some of his Clan are finding their mates, but the fates aren’t making it easy on any of them.
Abbi Quinn – teacher, wife, sister - is an abused, broken down young woman. After her parents’ death when she was seventeen, Abbi hung up her dreams along with her ballet shoes. Married to an abusive, controlling man, Abbi can’t remember what love feels like. When a stranger offers her a way out of her horrid situation, Abbi is torn. She tried leaving once before and the result almost cost her life.
When Frey finds his mate in the beautiful yet subdued Abbi, the pull between them is undeniable. He vows to find the smile hidden beneath her pain, to give her back her dreams, to see her dance. He will do whatever it takes to rescue her from the hands of her husband, even if it means protecting her from the sidelines.
Faith Gibson lives outside Nashville, Tennessee with the love of her life, and her four-legged best friend. She began writing in high school and over the years, penned many stories and poems.
When her dreams continued to get crazier than the one before, she decided to keep a dream journal. Many of these night-time escapades have led to a line, a chapter, and even a complete story.
When asked what her purpose in life is, she will say to entertain the masses. Even if it’s one person at a time. When Faith isn’t hard at work on her next story, she can be found reading, cooking, playing in the dirt (planting stuff) or playing with her staffy pup.
This has become one of my favorite standalone series, there is such a fantastic storyline that is continued in every book. I love how the author introduces us to all the members of the Stone Society and manages to relate a small history in each book. The Stone Society is a society of gargoyle shifters who's task is to protect the humans from the evils of mankind and the unholy while living amongst them in plain sight. Now the fates have decided that the gargoyles find their mates, but they do not come easily and Frey is no exception.
Frey is the biggest most imposing of the gargoyles, but he has such a soft heart, but you wouldn't know it by looking at him. He has found his mate, but she is untouchable. Frey must find a way to make her his, if it takes a lifetime.
Abigail has no illusions, she made her bed years ago and now she is paying for it, what she will not allow is for her brother to be a victim any longer. Can this gorgeous man Matt has befriended help her and her brother, she will do anything to protect him at all costs.
In the meantime, Jasper discovers that someone very powerful is not only after the gargoyles, but he is about to receive a blast from his past.
I can't wait to travel to New Atlanta again!
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review
5 Stars! I have a new book boyfriend and his name is Geoffrey “Frey” Hartley (sigh). Frey is the fourth book in the Stone Society series by Faith Gibson. This is my favorite book in the series (well, so far). I am learning that she has the knack at giving you two complete wonderful stories in each book. This one was tender and sweet. Frustration and tears was felt watching the love grow between the gargoyle and Abbi. Warning: This book contains domestic violence and non-consensual sex between spouses. Job well done! Of course to read this book and get the fullest enjoyment read the series in order, Rafael (1); Gregor (2) and Dante (3).
Enjoy this series more and more with each book I read. Learning each couples trials and pain, but how strong each one is to make it and to have such true love.
Warning: This book contains graphic sexual, emotional, and verbal abuse. The author did an amazing job of writing about this topic with sensitivity and respect.
Out of all the books I've read in the series, this is my favorite by far. I loved Frey's(Geoffrey's) character. He was strong, compassionate, dedicated, smart, loving, sensitive, and dominate.
Abbi's character was amazing considering what she was going through. Her love and dedication to her younger brother had me crying for the sacrifices she made with her abusive husband, and cheering for her when she finally said ENOUGH.
The author's world building is incredible, and she has me hooked on this series!
Writing about domestic abuse can be very difficult because many times the victim gets blamed. This story painted a true picture of abuse and the fear many victims live with. I loved the way Frey loved Abbi and Matthew back to life.
I did not like this book. I didn't like the content and it dragged on. I did like all the new characters. I loved Matthew most. Abby is likable. I was irritated at her hesitancy to leave Troy, her abusive husband but I think that real-life struggle is probably worse than what is written here. Although, she changed her mind more often than the wind changed direction.
It isn't merely that she was pain an abusive relationship. That is fine. What wasn't fine was how much of the book covered time she was with him either in present tense or in memories. We read through her being raped at least three times currently and in her memories and another time at the end. There was no reason for this. Rape scenes should fade to black in romances. We get the gist without reading details. I'm not sure there was a warning, either. I certainly didn't see it if there were.
The author is very sloppy with details about things that most people know about. If she isn't getting those details right, do I trust she is getting details of more obscure things right? Granted this is fiction but I expect authors to try to keep some things as factual as possible. For example, when they promote detectives in the police department, the patrol officers just have to write an essay about why they want to be a detective, and the chief and one other person choose based on that and I guess their service record. No exam to take. No training before their first day. Even if you drop the exam, there is no way a patrol cop wouldn't need training on being a detective.
In this book, Matthew claims they are hunkering down at school to study for the SAT. That doesn't happen for lots of reasons. One of those reasons is the test is given every few weeks, so they would have to "hunker down" multiple times a year. I'll stop there. I think I've made my point.
The final showdown is the only interesting part of this book. Well, I did like the relationships that formed between secondary characters. Matthew becomes friends with Mason and Jasper. He is Abbi's teenage brother.
If you have enjoyed this series, I would tell you to read this one but be prepared to skim. I'd say the same for the next but just because it is boring and the plot is pointless. If you were hanging on hoping this book would improve the series you might want to bail now. Although, I have enjoyed books 6 and 7 more. I have skimmed bits of all the books but I did that far less in books 6 and 7. They are still dry but not as badly. I don't know that I would have read the second book had I been paying for the series but since I'm reading on KU, I'm glad I forced my way through this book and the next. The next book doesn't have any objectionable material, at least. The plot is just silly and I don't mean it is funny.
Frey is the brother who owns the helicopter that took down Gordon Flanagan, he is the brother that owns a gym/dojo & he is the brother that I like the most so far in this series.
Abbi is in a very bad marriage as her husband abuses her almost every day & in every way possible; her husband thinks that because he's a cop that he can get away with it & that no one can stop him. At, the end of this book he finds out how wrong he is. Especially since Abbi is Frey's mate.
This book does contain the good vs bad plot, non-consensual sex scenes & consensual sex scenes, it contains a brother that wants to help his sister get away from her abusive husband not only because of what he does to her but what her husband does to him as well, this book contains love, family& friendship as all the gargoyles step up to help Frey protect Abbi & Matthew.
This book was heart wrenching but in the end, Frey, Abbi, Matthew & Amelia become a family.
Abbi, a dance teacher, goes to sign a permission slip for her teenaged brother to join a gym and meets Frey, full-blood gargoyle and the gym owner. As the story progresses darkness invades from the past and present, there are more snakes in the grass than they thought, and the final play may not have a winning solution. Faith Gibson’s Frey takes saving the damsel to heart, even of the damsel is the biggest, baddest alpha around, and allows one more of the Stone Society to get a chance at a happy ending. This book brings more couples into contact with each other and gives the reader a glimpse of troubles to come. Reader discretion advised due to dark subject matter and/or possible triggers.
First, I loved Frey and Abbi's story. There are triggers with domestic violence, assault, and rape. Abbi is a strong woman who is stuck in a bad situation. An abusive husband towards her and her brother. Frey meets Matthew and feels the need to help him. When he meets Abigail, he knows she is his mate and does everything he can to protect them both. This is a powerful and gripping read. I loved it. It opened my eyes to see what women, and/or men, go through in a abusive relationship. I hope everyone gives it a shot and enjoys this story as much as I did. Definitely recommend.
OMG and WOW are the first thoughts at finishing this book. Frey is book 4 in the series, it can be read as a stand alone but will be that much better if you read the series in order. I was ready to jump in the book before chapter 1 was over and kick his azz myself. The emotional ride this book takes you on is amazing. I may have had a few wet eye moments as well as a few cuss words and anger issues with this book, the emotion the author was able to put in this book is awesome. This one like the rest of the series is a must read.
There was fair warning on the About this Book and at the beginning that physical abuse is on the content. For some, that would keep them away, but i would encourage them to try to read it. Frey meets his mates brother at the gym, where he comes with a bruised up face asking for defense training. He wants to learn to protect his sister, whose husband is the abuser of them both. Then Frey meets Abbi, and learns she's is his mate. He and the Clan will have to work hard to save them both.
I have To say that this book is another great read from Faith Gibson. This is the fourth book in the Stone Society Series and I loved it. The story was believable from beginning to the end. I really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read the next book in this series. Faith has kept all of her characters from book one of the series coming back in each story. This book was very entertaining and kept me reading for hours. I recommend this book to readers who love to read about romance, family, and alpha males.
Ok. First you need to know that the main characters of Abbi and Matthew suffer horrific abuse. It is difficult to read. yet you remind yourself this could be someone you know right now. Frey is a beautiful soul. You will totally fall in love. We need to know what is going on with Jasper.
I have been in a rut, re-read ing my favorite authors over and over. I tried the KU free trial and read Gregor's story . The characters captivated me now I'm hooked!! Frey and Abbi are great together. The situation she was in and Frey's relationship with her brother was heartwarming.
Wow, this book was very good, very heavy content, but I think she did a great job with character's. I can't wait for next
Wow, this book was very good it was very heavy content so you should be forewarned. That being said I think the writer did a great job with the characters, in my opinion she nailed a narcissistic personality. I am excited to start the next book.
OMG I could not put this book down . this series is a must read. Fantastic plot twists that you will not see coming. Wonderful characters that follow through out the series. I highly recommended
This book was exciting thrilling emotional but very good. I could not put it down to interesting to close. Even though you know most of it is fictional it also had some great facts on domestic violence to be so so true one of the very best in series
This book was the first one I read in this series, but I could still follow the plot. The abuse was handled very well. Not a fan of reading about physical or mental abuse, but this book handled it very well done
This series is awesome! Every book so far has been wonderful. But I have to say I think I have enjoyed book number 4 the best so far!!! Can't imagine getting much better! Thank you Miss Faith you are one awesome and talented writer!!
I was concerned, with the disclaimer, how I would react to this book. But it was handled so well that I doubt anyone would be triggered. I loved the happy ending and I can't wait for more!
I liked this book but the pace was a bit to fast considering what the heroine was coming out of. Beyond that though I am glad everything worked out in the end. I look forward to the other books. Ohh yeah it a fist bump not a knuckle bump my gawd that triggered me
I like this series. This was a well written and suspenseful story. But it just wasn’t my fave. Maybe too raw and emotional when I want a more romantic escape? Still it was good but I won’t read it again.
The author really draws you into her books and makes you feel a part of the story. An honest connection to the characters truly makes this a worthwhile read.
