L. Pichon says that when she was little, she loved to draw, and her mom said she was very good at making a mess (this is still true today). She kept drawing, went to art school, became a designer and art director at Jive Records, and began to publish children’s books. After its publication in the U.K., The Brilliant World of Tom Gates won several prestigious awards, including the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize, and the Blue Peter Book Award. L. Pichon lives in Brighton, England, with her family.
The 10th book in the Tom Gates series, and they never bore me. The author keeps finding ways to make everything fun in each book. In this one Tom and his family are going on a holiday, but as you can guess it is pretty disastrous as they get a crappy mobile villa (though for a reason, thanks dad), get stuck in the mud (Tom is suddenly happy with his mom being overprotective), Delia can take her best (and ungrateful) friend, Avril (really, is it that hard to say thank you), Tom forgets his homework (as expected, though I do wonder why he or his parents never thought off it), and then there is tons more (really mom, don't push Tom for pants, and then forget them yourself). I loved it. I also like the activity pages, though I would never draw there (now I really couldn't as it is a library copy, but if it was my own copy, also a big no).
I ❤️ TOM GATES,but the thing I didn't like was that we had to do everything ourselves.I just like books that we read not write into. And on some pages wehad to draw pictures of Mr Fullerman,Delia, marcus
Read- October 2019 - Reading hasn't been my top priority for the last few weeks but I'm hoping to finally get back into reading again. I have enjoyed taking a step back but I have really missed reading.
it's 2017. i'm 13. i'm in eight grade. i'm jumping up and down because today was our library period and i got my hands on a Tom Gates book!!!
it's 2023. i'm 18. i'm in my first year of uni. i'm jumping up and down because somehow i managed to get my hands on a Tom Gates book!!!
When I was 13, I read these books because they were so funny and cool. Plus they had all these wonderful illustrations. Now at 18 I read them because of the nostalgia. Reading this book truly unlocked some childhood memories and it's really interesting to see you childhood favourites from a more mature perspective.
This book was very good and funny. I loved meeting some of the new characters that are not in many other stories the pictures in it were also very good and the interactive pages I thought were a great feature. my favorite part was when they were on holiday at Pine Tree Rivera as it was very funny and detailed so over all I loved the book and thought it was great. Super funny story and illustrations both. Very fun to read as it has doodles almost everywhere and enriches imagination. Children can also compare their lives with Tom Gates. A brilliant series and an absolutely good read.
I just love the stupid things that toms dad does and I especially liked the bit in the book where his mum waved the pants int he air in the supermarket and I would recommend this book to any body who likes funny things.
I have never seen Tom Gates have so many super good skills before, just like Tom Gates I am SUPER good at spying but I haven't found my other skills (yet) so anyways amazing book.(Plus I am 8 years old and my name is Rishi)
I chose this rating because it was good in some ways. I like how it has holidays and I finish school on friday. What I don't like is how I can't draw my wonderful pictures. I would recommend it to Erin because she likes to learn and read.
I really enjoyed reading this because it was different from what I expected and I didn't know that yu would be able to draw and write in it. It was amazing
