Ethan's Promise

Rate this book
This book is no longer available (it was part of Kindle Worlds which was discontinued). It is being turned from a novella into a full length novel and is being published under the title Rebellious River.

Ethan Slade was a loner. No parents. No wife and kids. No liabilities. He had one love in his life - the Special Forces. As a member of the elite Task Force Scorpion, he'd been on more near death missions than most soldiers experienced in a lifetime and he liked it. So when his commander put him on a forced two-week vacation, Ethan did the only thing he could - took Grey Holden and Team Omega up on an offer for another mission: provide protection to a senator's daughter at her wedding.

Kate Richards had a chip on her shoulder. After being fired from her job as a CIA analyst because her boss wanted her in his bed instead of behind a computer, Kate was left without a job or a clue as to what she would do next. Then ran into Athena Madero, who'd had her own problem with asshole bosses and offered Kate a new job - come work for her private security company, Team Omega.

After years of ribbing and sexual harassment, Kate wanted nothing to do with men. Period. Especially tall, dark and handsome alpha male operative Ethan Slade. The last thing Ethan wanted or needed was to give up his life as a roamer, avoiding any attachments or obligations. But neither of them is prepared for the instant eruption of desire at their first meeting.

The two come together in an explosion of passion so potent it will leave them both marked for life. But just as quickly as they've come together, Kate is violently ripped from his fingers, and it's up to Ethan to rescue the woman he's come to love before he ends up alone again.

Kate, a CIA agent, has reached her limit. Her boss has pushed her too far with his inappropriate actions toward her and she quits. Thankfully, she's offered a protection job shortly after that and will be watching over a senator's daughter. Though as she's used to being behind a computer, she may need a little training first.

Ethan lives only for his position with Special Forces. With no family to speak of, he's found one within the military. And when his Commander informs him he'll be working protection at a wedding, he's understandably upset as his skill set makes him a little overqualified. And on top of that he needs to train someone while doing so.

Kate has spent years being viewed only as a woman, judged solely by her appearance and what she can do for the other gender, so she's not expecting this time to be any different. Ethan has never wanted attachments, aside from his men and even that's only to a point. However, neither expected their immediate reactions to each other to change everything they thought they knew and wanted.

But just as quickly, Kate is taken from him and Ethan must use all his training and do everything he can to save the woman he's fallen for.

Can Ethan rescue Kate in time? Will these two lose the happiness they've only now discovered? Is a HEA possible?

One-click now and follow along as two people, loners for their own reasons, realize life is sweeter with the right person.

Expanded version means more heat…

I love to dive into a story cold. I don’t read the blurb or glance too long at the cover, just plunge right in. As I read this story, I was thinking how familiar it seemed. It was good, but the feeling of déjà vu didn’t leave. And now I know why! The author was very clear in her blurb that this was an expanded version of Ethan’s Promise (no longer available in Kindle World). So, that means I was able to enjoy Ethan and Kate’s story again - with more words and definitely more heat….

After a devastating parting with her alphabet agency employer, Kate finds herself in the middle of the Men of Mercy, once again trying to find her way in a man’s world. She’s a lot OCD, uber-smart, and not afraid of a few bruises as she hones her skills for the field. Ethan is there to help her but really he just seems to antagonize her, perhaps a way to push her away as he finds her so compelling. His world is okay with people on the periphery, but Kate is someone who won’t be sidelined…

They fight, they argue, until it all explodes in moments of heat and danger. This is a quick read but nothing is missing when suspense and passion cover the pages. Worth a second re-read for sure but be warned. Like me, you will want to start the series again from the beginning!

Ethan Slade is Sergeant 1st Class with Task Force Scorpion (TSF) being sidelined with two weeks leave before he can go back out on missions. Ethan got bodyguard duty for Senator Cotter's daughter before, during, and after the wedding. The job should be easy right~wrong enter Kate Richards former CIA analyst. Kate has to have everything in order or she gets anxious. Ethan becomes Kate's trainer but neither of them expected the flames of desire to be so high for the both of them. Will their desires override sense? How goes the bodyguarding job? Your answers await you in Rebellious River.

I've definitely been curious about Ethan since his introduction in the Men of Mercy Series. Ethan is a take charge kind of guy doesn't do well sitting still. Kate is a wicked strong female character which makes me really happy because I love a good strong female character. Ms. Cross has a winner with this series and thensome. Definitely looking forward to my next adventure with this author.

I am a full-blown addict of this series!

Ethan is out of sorts and pissed now that he has been forced on a full two week vacation. He wants to be hunting Mr. J. after the man tried to assassinate his team members and blew up their head quarters. Omega Team has a job for him though, protecting a senator's daughter during her wedding and since he will do anything to keep from obsessing about not being able to go overseas to find him, he takes the job.

Omega has just hired Kate, an ex-CIA analyst who was one woman in a male driven division of the CIA and who's boss sexually harassed her daily. She does however have evidence of Mr. J. While she doesn't let that information out during her interview, she still gets the job. And she starts right then.

Ethan is a one man member of a team. He doesn't do attachments and when he finds out he is going to be the one training Kate he doesn't like it. Kate is OCD and since Ethan is a wildcard, a loaner and not at all tidy in appearance she is not a fan of him either.

The problem with this assignment is they have not only lost the bride, but they have also lost Saline as they have both been kidnapped.

Fireworks from the beginning to an explosive end with a huge cliff hanger, but I've left the juicy details out so you will have to read it yourself. It had me going huh?!? This is NOT the end of this book. But sadly, yes, it was.
Something you need to know about me: I'm not a cliff hanger girl. They aggravate me. BUT, when the book is so good you read through it so fast you don't realize it's the end..... I have to give credit where credit is due, great job to the author for keeping me shocked. Now my impatient self will have to wait for the next book. Uggg! And I mean that in the best possible way.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I always enjoy Lindsay’s books because her heroes are gorgeously muscled and meticulously trained Alpha warriors and her heroines are beautiful, brilliant and feisty women who are just as likely to kick butt and take names, even if those butts belong to the men they love. Ethan Slade and Kate Richards have plenty of chemistry that I found very appealing because watching the two of them joust for position both on and off the work-out mats made this book exciting and oh-so satisfying in every way. I highly recommend this wonderful action-packed adventure. I read an early copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

Kate is a former CIA agent that quits her job because of her boss sexual advances. She was offered a job as a body guard to the senator's daughter at her wedding. She will need to get additional training from Ethan. They both think this mission will be easy. Well they have no idea what is to come.

This story was great. I enjoyed the chemistry between Ethan and Kate. The ending was awesome. I had to go onto the next book of the series to find out what happens next.

I’d like to thank Give me books promotions for sending me an e-arc of this book! The description drew me to this book and damn I was hooked from the moment I read to the moment I finished and then started the other books in this series. I think it’s very important for me to say that although this is from a series at no point did I feel like I had missed out on anything from not reading the other books. I do have to say after reading this book I did go on to get her other books too and I went down a deep deep hole of reading her books!

Kate was such a strong and independent woman I really loved her character and she was so sassy! I also enjoyed Ethan’s character the nice strong Alpha male I loved it! Some of my favourite parts of this book is when Ethan is winding Kate up just because she falls for it so easy and it makes me laugh so much. I loved the connection between these two characters as well as the sexual tension between the two. Which resulted in some hot and sexy sex scenes which were written amazingly! Such great writing!

I loved Kate’s interview! It was such a unique interview and I loved not only her reaction but the people that interviewed her. It was nice that after her boss from the CIA had tried to put her down that they were confident in her abilities and told her how good she was.

Aaron and Noni were so funny, I loved that Noni pretty much clocked on to how Ethan was as a person and similar to her husband. I loved that she could see straight through him. I also loved Aaron and how he managed to tease Ethan about Kate. The same with Ethan teasing Aaron when it came to Celine.

I really liked the relationship between Kate, Celine and Caroline.

That cliffhanger! Damn, that cliffhanger! This book had me in such a spin and it was such an amazing story, plot and characters as well as amazing writing! I loved this book so much and I cannot wait to read the rest of this series.

Ethan’s Promise by Lindsay Cross
Men of Mercy #7

Ethan and Kate are great together! He is dangerous, deadly and hot. She is intelligent, analytical and hot. Both are committed to being the best and moving forward with their careers. During this novella Ethan is in charge of upgrading Kate’s skills to bodyguard standards so that she will be reading to work as part of the Omega team hired to protect a senator’s daughter. Kate knows what she wants and is willing to reach out for it. Ethan is a man who does not see a future with a white picket fence but when asked, neither does Kate.

The story gets everyone safely to the wedding venue but then something happens…and I will not tell you what it is ;) I enjoyed the reading and am glad that there seems to be a happy-for-now ending for Ethan and Kate even though the cliffhanger left me wondering what will happen to the others. One of the highlights of this book was Aaron’s Noni – she was an interesting and delightful character that I warmed up to immediately. What she told Ethan really had him thinking!

Thank you to the author for the copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I gave this book 4 stars!

This is one great book with a lot of Hot Alpha Special Forces men. This story is about Ethan and Kate. Ethan has been on his own since he was 15. He has no family but his Special Forces brothers. Kate was with the CIA until she got tired of her boss sexual harassment. She don't want to go home to her over bearing mom. She takes a job with the Omega Team. What she wasn't expecting was to meet the ever Hot, Alpha Ethan. Over the next few weeks Ethan will be training Kate. Will these two be able to keeping it professional or is it a losing battle?

The chemistry between Ethan and Kate is beyond explosive. The feelings between these two is palpable. The secondary characters plays a hugh role in making this book.

I haven't read the other stories in this series, but this book can be read a stand alone. It does continue into another book but with the secondary characters.

I thought when it said in the blurb that the author had expanded an earlier short story into a novella, she might have included an ending. Not the case. I found the story okay, the characters okay, and the editing, just okay. Some bits were a tad out there, such as the heroine drinking on duty when she doesn't normally drink. And suddenly she's in the heroes arms on the couch relaxing and enjoying his company while the person they'd been charged with to protect is in the wind. Too many stretches for this reader.

Reading this book a second time round with just that little bit extra was good, because it took me back to my very first Men of Mercy series that I read by Lindsay. Ethan is not happy that he has to stay stateside and help cover the Senator’s daughter’s wedding. But when Grey throws Kate, an ex-CIA Agent into the mix it ignites a chemistry and passion neither of them saw coming!

Good read and definitely would recommend this series and this book:) Thank you Lindsay for my advanced copy for which I leave my honest review.

Another great book in the Men of Mercy series by Lindsay Cross. This book was previously released as a novella and while it has been been expanded, it's a quick read. Despite the fact that it ends on a cliffy, one can definitely enjoy as a stand alone and suffer in suspense like the rest of us.

Ethan Slade, loner extraordinaire, and Task Force Scorpion member is itching to be let off the lease and go after the man that betrayed the team and the country. Instead, he and the rest of the crew are stuck stateside on a babysitting mission. The mission should be simple, keep the spoiled daughter of a Senator safe and on plan to be sacrificed, er I mean, married off in a politically arranged marriage. Ethan's definitely had harder missions. Until the daughter decides she wants a woman as her bodyguard and the commander hires the most gorgeous woman he's ever seen. He's in charge of training her and the mission is the last thing on his mind. Keeping his hands off her just became the hardest thing he's ever done.

Kate's career and life careened off kilter when she quit her job after being sexually harrassed for the umpteenth time. To say she has trust issues and a giant chip on her shoulder is a massive understatement but she's got to make this new gig work or she's going to be eating ramen soon. Landing the job with Task Force Scorpion is major but not as big as the guy that's supposed to be training her. He's BIG and his ego is bigger. They needle each other like crazy but everyone else can see it's sexual tension. Being forced to spend two weeks with the biker wanna be training her to be a spoiled princess's bodyguard might be the hardest mission she's ever faced.

These two come together like fire and gasoline. They're explosive and witnessing them grow beyond their own massive obstacles was special. Love the team and their unique dynamics and their desire to take out a common enemy. When that enemy resurfaces, they'll all put their lives on the line to protect one another, especially Ethan, who finally has a reason to care.

Great read and with that ending, I'm waiting on pins and needles for the conclusion!

I received a copy of this e-book through the author and am voluntary leaving my honest review.

Ethan has always been alone and lives for his role in a special task force. He trusts no one but his brothers in arms...

Kate was a CIA analyst but walked out and quit over the constant sexual harassment she has received from the men she works with and her boss.

The task force is assigned to provide protection to a Senator's daughter, at her wedding . They have recruited Kate to be one of their body guards as a man being with her constantly would of course be noticed. Kate will have to go through an intense 2 week training first.

The first time Kate and Ethan see each other, there are fireworks for both of them. Even though Kate is fit and has gone through training for the CIA, what she is dealing with now does not compare but she must be ready to protect as well as be protected.

Ethan and Kate give into their passion figuring it to be a fling. One the evening of the wedding, Kate and Celine(Caroline's hairdresser) are with Caroline while Ethan and another guard their door.

Caroline decides she cannot go through with the wedding and the 3 women escape where her limo driver is waiting. Someone else is waiting for them also, they are drugged and abducted by the men of Mr. J, a man who was once part of the task force and is now their enemy.

Ethan and the team find Kate but Caroline and Celine are not to be found as they were taken elsewhere.

The good part? Ethan and Kate realize just how deep their feeling go...the bad part...everything else is a cliffhanger. I would have to say that is my only issue with this story.

The story grabbed me from the first page and kept me going throughout the book. Ethan is arrogant but Kate is no pushover. She is tough and strong-minded. These two will be butting heads for many years but the making up will be great!

I loved getting to know Ethan and Kate and look forward to more from this author!

**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review**

Rebellious River used to be Ethan's Promise is part of the Men of Mercy series by Lindsay Cross when it was part of Kindle World which is no longer. But Ms. Cross has extended the book and added to the story for this new book on Ethan and Kate.

Ethan Slade doesn't want a forced vacation from his Task Force Scorpion team, but when his commander says he has to a short two week assignment. What can possibly go wrong guarding senator's daughter wedding? The short answer is a lot because those of us who have read and followed the Men of Mercy series know that for CIA agent Mr. J is still out there and wants revenge.

Kate Richards loved her job at the CIA just not her boss who wanted her in her bed instead of working as an analyst and a promotion that she deserves she quits. But when she runs into Agent K who offers her a job with Task Force Scorpion with much better pay. When she meets Colonel Mack Grey and the team it doesn't take long for her to accept the job.

Caroline Cotter isn't happy with her "arranged" marriage to a one star General Rainier that will make her father's political career be more noticed by the powers that could help him in the future by getting elected to President. How can she escape it when it's what her father expects from her?
But when she meets Ethan Slade, Celine and Kate she relents to having bodyguards. But its the sparks and the passion he'll feel for Kate which can't be ignored and it's explosive. However, when Kate, Saline and Caroline are kidnapped can Ethan and TF-S rescue them in time before they are hurt?

I have to say the book was very good but it still ends abruptly, leaving the reader hanging. But all in all, Rebellious River is a great addition to both the Men of Mercy series.

Rebellious River is part of the Men of Mercy series which includes action, drama and lust. Ethan is at the top of his game, he got there with the knowledge that he doesn’t have a weak spot; no significant other or family to call his own. When his team is grounded stateside they embark on a private security detail which includes adding a female agent to their team. Life at the CIA was over, back against the wall Kate quit, understanding that her old boss had the authority to ruin her career she took a role helping protect the bride at a high-profile wedding, when a split decision result in betrayal their team is left scrambling.

Ethan is a cocky, arrogant and all-round Alpha, he doesn’t take crap from no one and he is driven to protect his country and his team. Kate has always stepped out of the perfect box that her family created for her, she is living her life the way she wants but is continuously fighting for survival in a world of male dominance.

From the moment that Ethan & Kate came together there was no doubt that the tension rising between the two of them would explode into passion and need, leaving them both with feelings that have never surfaced previously.

This was my first novel by Lindsay and I really enjoyed it, I loved the dual POV’s which made me feel like I was in both of their heads throughout the story. I am going to go back and start the series from the beginning. Rebellious River was more than a romance between two characters it has action with good and bad guys resulting in leaving us on a cliff hanger I am now hanging out for. I am looking forward to reading the conclusion which will be told in Aaron and Celine’s book.

Kate Richards CIA agent has a meeting with her creepy boss Agent Lamar Franks. Kate can’t stand him but he stands in the way of her promotion and Kate isn’t willing to settle for anything less. As Kate is meeting with him she is shocked and disgusted that her boss would not only put the moves on her sexually and blame her for it. Kate can’t expose him no matter that it is wrong but he is her boss and will smear her name for any governmental position so does the only thing she quits. Luckily a friend and ex-coworker tell Kate of a mysterious job opportunity working for soldiers. Kate really has no choice and accepts the job meeting Ethan Slade. When she meets Ethan sparks fly and they can’t really stand each other. As Ethan trains her for the job the hot sexual chemistry between them can’t be ignored and they can’t avoid it but is their chemistry what also could kill them in the end?
I remember reading this book by Ms. Lindsay Cross when it was a novella and called Ethan’s Promise. The book has been expanded to a full-length novel and has not lost the intense action or hot off the charts romantic chemistry. The story does still end abruptly but in Ethan and Kate’s romance I was quite pleased to learn the animosity yet strong attraction they had for each other. Plus Ethan and Kate were better developed than before. Sure Ethan isn’t all that great in expressing himself when it comes to family which I can understand but I still wanted to hit him at times. I also couldn’t help but like him too. Ethan sure was hot and Kate was definitely his equal. I enjoyed her. Kate is a great heroine smart savvy and despite not really knowing how to be female she still has that edge yet is still a woman. I am eager to read the next installment of Aaron and Celine’s story!

Rebellious River is the fifth book in the Men of Mercy series. This book had previously been released as a novella (Ethan’s Promise) that was part of a Kindle World. The author has expanded the book to include a lot more content. This should not be read as a a standalone as it ends in a cliffhanger! There is violence and sex.

Ethan Slade is part of Task Force Scorpion (Men of Mercy series). When he is forced to take a two week vacation, he doesn't know how he will stand it. He is a loner, doesn't have any family, and lives for his team and their missions. When Rowdy (Omega Team) offers him a two week job, he jumps at the chance even if it is a "babysitting" job.

Kate Richards has just lost her job as a CIA analyst. Kate interviews with Holden and Athena to work for Omega. She needs to get this job with them and prove herself. She does not want to return to South Carolina where her overbearing mother will want her to get married and be the perfect housewife and mother. They hire her and pair her with Ethan on the protection detail.

At first glance neither Ethan or Kate want anything to do with each other. But Kate needs to have some additional training and Ethan is assigned to do it. It isn't long before the sparks are flying. When they finally give in to their passion, the sex is hot and steamy. If only their job protecting a Senator's daughter at her wedding went as easy as the preparation. As usual, things are not what as what they appeared or as was expected.

I really enjoyed this re-written book even though it ended with a cliffhanger so I have to wait to see how it is resolved. I'm looking forward to reading more Men of Mercy books.

Rebellious River (formerly known as Ethan's Promise) is chock full of action, romance and adventure.

I love this series and I was ecstatic that Ethan and Kate got an extended story.

Ethan is a lone wolf, with the exception of his team. He has no-one to leave behind if anything happens to him during any of his every dangerous missions. He is a tad insulted when his boss gives him the babysitting job of looking after a new female agent. She is everything that he should hate; tightly controlled, OCD fuelled and a stickler for the rules.

Kate still can't believe she was drummed out of the CIA because of her slimy, lying boss. The old boys club sure blocked her fast and now she is the newbie, pretty much auditioning for a part on the team full-time. babysitting an heiress at her wedding shouldn't be too bad. But they want her to be a stylist as a cover. She hates heels, makeup and girliness in general! She joined the CIA to ensure she didn't become the stepford wife wannabe her mother wanted her to be. She is an analyst at heart, even though she has kept her training up to date.

Kate is so perfect as the OCD agent. As the auntie of several OCD sufferers, she was written so true!Ethan is loyal and an adrenaline junkie. One night stands are his default but kate irritates and annoys him, and weirdly he finds her fascinating. An Interfering team-mates grandma almost steals the show!

I have read the books which lead into and out of this one so I was on firm ground with the plot but I would definitely suggest reading the series in order.

When being a little Rebellious gets you into trouble...
REBELLIOUS RIVER (Men of Mercy Bk 5), is a fast-paced, page-turning (extended) story. A wonderful read of Ethan and Kate’s journey. They just might have a bit of work to accomplish first… a certain former CIA lady has some training to catch up on if her new job with Task Force Scorpion is to be a success.

Both characters have baggage, so are a little combative when paired together, with Ethan as her training instructor. Both are strong willed, determined, and guarded, They know what they want, work hard with their training for a wedding. Not just any wedding but a high profile Senator’s daughter’s wedding. Seems a simple task… not in the world of action and dramatic suspense. Add some much needed female bonding that goes awry and Ethan and his team spring into action.

Ethan and Kate’s story has been extended. We get a more comprehensive look at their relationship though the ending felt a little rushed. Maybe the overall action or I simply wanted more to Ethan and Kate’s story. I felt there were background situations/plots that I feel needed more attention. Maybe that’s for other Men Of Mercy books to come. We will see.

If you have been following this Men Of Mercy series, you will have to wait patiently for more books to see how events are unraveling … those books and characters involved are coming soon. I’m sure those who love romantic suspense and dramatic intrigue will love reading REBELLIOUS RIVER and continue reading to see this series unfold.

I was kindly provided this book as an ARC; in exchange for my honest review. Normally I recommend to read all the previous books in the series with this authors books. However, in this instance you may want to read this book prior to book 9 - of course If you’ve read the Kindle Worlds book Ethan’s Promise-then you’ve kind of read this one. (Ethan’s Promise no longer available). I guess Kindle World went by the wayside & authors are getting shafted in their work. So wrong.

Anyway this book will seem a little out-of-order in the Men of Mercy/Mayhem series. Plus, yes like me if you follow this author (her work is 99.5% great) then you bought & read Ethan’s Promise. If not here’s your chance to see the relationship between the girls (Caroline, Celine, & Kate). The love story is Ethan & Kate. Kate’s a disenchanted ex-CIA analyst/code breaker who joins up with task force Scorpion to “protect” Caroline the dirty Senators daughter at her unwanted/forced marriage to an equally dirty general who heads JSOC.

I think the author did the best she could in reworking the Kindle Worlds book (which has to burn as I’m not too thrilled myself with the Kindle ‘gods’). This story leaves off just as the girls ‘escape’ the forced wedding only to be kidnapped by... if you’re new to the series you’ll enjoy. If you’re like me anxiously awaiting to see where TF-Scorpion & the Mayhem boys go to get to the bottom of the big conspiracy; well keep waiting it’ll come I have faith.

Kate Richards is a CIA agent until she is finally done with the sexual harassment that she keeps receiving from her boss, Lamar Franks. Yet right after quitting she is offered a job protecting the senator's daughter at her wedding.

Ethan Slade has no family to keep in one place and his only focus is on his job as Sergeant 1st class of Task Force Scorpion. Ethan is not happy with his latest assignment "babysitting" Caroline Cotter or having to train Kate on how to properly protect her.

As tension builds between Ethan and Kate, their attraction grows and will it affect the job they have to do?

This is such a good read and it really shows us where the series is headed and it is getting intense!!

I hated what Kate went through with her job and it frustrated me that she had to quit due to what her boss set up. I was glad that she was offered another job right away and you knew it wouldn't be easy for her.

Ethan was so moody but at the same time a great character! I felt bad that he had no family but at the same time it made him such a good employee as he was so dedicated to his job.

The chemistry between the two was high but I loved how both denied how they felt about each other. I loved the hotel and how they knew it was safe.

Things definitely did not go as planned and I could understand Caroline's reluctance to get married to General Ranier but I felt so bad at the betrayal! I was glad that the end had one person safe but now we need more!!

Oh yeah! What an awesome pair these two make! I positively loved the dynamic between Ethan and Kate. The push-pull was exciting and entertaining to watch, and their chemistry was absolutely undeniable. Sparks flew from the moment these two laid eyes on each other. Then those flames continued to ignite hotter and higher as the story moved forward. 🔥🔥

Kate had to train with Ethan in preparation for her first assignment on her new job. I love that Kate came in and knocked Ethan completely off his game. As a former analyst for the CIA, she's had lots of practice dealing with difficult men, and she definitely held her own. She's rough and tough when needed, but she also had a soft and sexy side. I loved and adored her as a heroine.

And Ethan-holy smokes! 😍🤤 Hotter than hot, and doesn't pull any punches! If he looked at me the way he looked at Kate, I’d blush too! ☺ Ethan also says directly what’s on his mind, and I loved that about him. You never have to guess where you stand with him. I also found myself laughing out loud at some of the things he said to Kate when they first met.

These two were just too cute and too sexy for words.

But darn it if Ms. Cross didn’t snatch me into this story only to leave me hanging! What’s up with that?!😂

Those pesky little grammatical errors were still present like in the other books of this series, but even that and the little cliffhanger didn't keep me from enjoying this story.

Such a fun read! The characters were great, and I just loved Ethan. He doesn't have a family and clearly feels out of place when he realizes that he needs to stay at Aaron's grandmother's house. He is strong and tell-it-like-it-is, and he really empowers Kate, which was great to see. Kate is another strong character, and she feels out of place as an ex-CIA analyst who has landed bodyguard duty. Watching Ethan train Kate was really entertaining and was a great way to show their relationship developing. Their chemistry was explosive, and they were definitely a great match.

Kate's bodyguard duty definitely takes an unexpected turn when they get to the church. The pacing was great, and I couldn't put the book down. I definitely didn't see the twists coming and I couldn't wait to see what happened next...and then it ended. I was not prepared for this to be a cliffhanger, and the ending felt abrupt. However, I will definitely be buying the next book since I need to know what happened...so I guess that's the point! I also would have appreciated just a touch more development in their relationship, but I'm greedy that way :)

This instalment of the Men of Mercy series was originally released as a Kindle World novella (Omega Team - Ethan’s Promise), but since Kindle World is no more, this has now been reworked into a Men of Mercy novella. It is therefore not the latest in the series and goes back in the timeline to when the original novella was set (just before or around the time of books 5 I believe). This can be read standalone, but it will make more sense and have more excitement if read in the wider context of the series.

This story introduces us to Kate’s a disappointed and frustrated ex-CIA analyst/code breaker who joins up with task force Scorpion to act as a bodyguard for Caroline the Senators daughter at her arranged marriage to an older general who heads JSOC. Ethan from task force Scorpion is in charge of her training and sparks start to flying when their workouts gets hot and sweaty.

If you haven’t read the rest of this series, you might feel frustrated (in a ‘I want more’ way) at the cliffhanger at the end of the book. Ethan and Kate’s story completes, but there is so much more going on that we still need to know and understand... my recommendation - read all of the series, it is excellent.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Kate Richards is not willing to be the Betty Crocker cookie cutter wife and mother her mother has always wanted her to be. Instead she ended up working as an analyst for the CIA…well…until one day her boss passes her over for promotion and harasses her enough to make her quit her job. Little does she know that by quitting she will be asked to join an elite team of soldiers and that her first job will see her working as a body guard for a senator’s daughter.

Before the job begins she is required to upgrade her skills and who should be her trainer than Ethan Slade. Ethan is icy and big and alpha and not in the mood for a relationship although he has been off his carousing game a bit and feeling an itch he can’t seem to scratch. Little does he know that when Kate steps into his life everything will change and perhaps she is the one who will be able to scratch his itch and do it better than he could ever have imagined.

This is a book about team and family and goals and also explains in more detail than Ethan’s Promise (novella this was expanded on) how some women disappear and where the series will head next.

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review

To be totally honest I haven't read a Lindsay Cross story for a while but I always enjoy them so I figured why not give Rebellious River a shot. Now, this being my first book in the Men of Mercy series, I was a little worried that I might be a tad lost on a few things but I didn't need to worry. I was able to follow everything just fine.

I loved Kate's attitude and how she was determined to do what was right. For herself and others. Even if it let some folks (her parents) down. I loved the fearlessness with which she faced her uncertain future and Ethan. Holy smokes! Talk about a broody man. But there was something about Kate that just made him want to smile. Can you say sexual tension? Say it loud because Ethan and Kate had it in spades. It was only a matter of time before that bubble burst and when it did...whew hot!

If there is one word to describe Rebellious River, fast-paced is it. With a crew of military men, a manhunt and a high profile case there was never a dull moment. I enjoyed seeing Kate step up and follow not just her training but her her instincts as well. But what an unexpected turn things took when she did. That ending! NOOO!! I needed more. I have to know what happens next.

Fantastic!

HOORAY for Kate! I admire a woman who stands up for herself when faced with the “male mentality” that men are superior at everything. They shouldn’t have such sensitive appendages if they are so tough. Her former boss learned that the hard way.

Ethan is a man with attitude. Just his appearance screams badass and he is a man that doesn’t take crap from anyone. I think these two are a match made in heaven. I loved their dynamics and their love/hate relationship. They each have immense pride, determination and the ability to take care of themselves.

This story is about courage and one woman’s attempt to succeed in a man’s world of classified operations, danger and espionage. I thoroughly enjoyed Kate’s training regimen under Ethan’s “tender” care. He works her to exhaustion where she finds sore muscles she never knew she had along with her grit and determination to keep coming back in order to make the team she has committed to.

This story is both intriguing and entertaining. A fast-paced read with an abundance of twists and turns to keep the reader on edge and excited to see what happens next! Great job! I loved it!

Rebellious River by Lindsay Cross is a great read. It is Book 5 in the Men of Mercy series. This is the story of Ethan and Kate. Kate worked for the CIA and recently quit her job because her boss wanted to sleep with her and told her she would never get a pomotion. She was the best analyst the CIA had. She was hired to work with the group after being refered by one of her former CIA members. Ethan is a Sergeant in Task Force Scorpion (TF-S). He is also the communications person. He is tasked to train Kate for the mission they will be going on. When they first meet both feel an immediate connection with each other but they try to hide it and ignore it. After a week of training together neither can overllok their attraction for the other and they get together. Will they let the mission get between them? Will outside forces come between them and end their budding relationship? Will they get their HEA? To get the answers you will need to read the book. There is action and suspense, highs and lows, twists and turns. I definitely recommend this book. I can't wait to read the next book from Lindsay Cross.

In this book, we get to follow Kat Richard. We find out more about her feelings on certain aspects of life as we get to know her. What does she do for a living? Who is Lamar Franks? What do the males on her team do to her? What makes Kate rethink her life choices? What does Agent K say to Kate when he runs into her outside on the street? Once you get into the story, you realize that parts of it you may have read in The Omega Team: Ethan's Promise from the Men of Mercy series. Except this time, we focus on Kate, her training with Ethan, and what happens after the great escape. We now see how Kate came to the assignment she is on with Grey. So if you get a sense of deja vu, just keep reading and enjoy! You'll get to see things we did not get to see in Ethan's Promise!

Rebellious River by Lindsay Cross was a excellent read, it was full of action packed suspense and passion. This was a very good story that keeps you hooked from the very start till the very end. The characters are strong, independent, maybe a bit hard headed and very lovable. This is Kate Richards and Ethan Slade’s story, two people who just want to do there jobs. Well that was true for Kate up until she quits her CIA analysts job due to circumstances involving her boss. She is offered an interesting opportunity, she is a a little apprehensive at first but decides to hear the offer.
Ethan is a bit upset due to his forced two week vacation his commander ordered him to take. Ethan is not use to down time he is always ready for a mission this is no different, when an opportunity comes for an easy babysit job. Protecting a senator’s daughter he takes it. When Kate and Eathan first meet you can feel the chemistry and sparks coming right off the pages. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy. Love it so much I purchased it.
