Nigel May has been described as "the UK's male Jackie Collins" and is an author, TV host and journalist. His three fiction novels have all been published by Bookouture.
His first glam fiction novel was TRINITY, an action-packed blockbuster (or bonkbuster) about the lives of the rich and famous. Glamour, beauty, fame and celebrity mix with murder, intrigue and danger to create an explosive novel which gained incredible reviews and fans across the globe. His follow-up was the glitz-meets-grit whodunit ADDICTED which was also a huge success and once again dived into the diamond-dipped world of the mega-rich but showed that all of the money and fame in the world do not always make for a happy ending. His third novel SCANDALOUS LIES is steeped in secrets, sin, sex and scandal and takes readers around the world as a mysterious celebrity disappearance is investigated. His books have been Amazon best sellers, read by celebrities and fellow authors alike, and have proved that a man can successfully write in a 'bonkbuster world' that has always been a strongly female domain.
Nigel was the only male writer amongst 44 authors featured in the chart-topping, beach-read anthology of short-stories SUNLOUNGER. He also contributed a short story to SUNLOUNGER 2.
On television he regularly presents on UK shopping channels where he has built up a substantial following. He has also featured on Channel 4, C5, ITV and broadcast live from America. He is also one of the UK's most popular craft personalities, having launched his own successful range, A-May-Zing.
As a writer he has written for many of the UK's most successful magazines and newspapers, specialising in showbiz and celebrity, as well as writing on subjects ranging from relationships through to exotic travel.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The characters are devious, shallow, and wealthy; while the plot is a captivating blend of betrayal, glamour, and manipulation. I definitely recommend this novel for anyone who would love to spend a few hours in the scandalous and racy life of celebrities.
Well another Nigel May book an another corker of a read. It's packed to the rafters with Glamour, murder, sex, more sec, infidelity, skulduggery...the list goes on! When I started to read this book I was a bit worried as there seemed to be so MANY characters. Actually by chapter 3 all the mundane duties such as housework, dinner and a bath had gone out the window. What at first seemed like a character overload ended up being just perfect. Sheridan Rivers is smack bang in the middle of every thread in this story. As the owner and Millionaire of the luxurious Hotels named Velvet he is every bit the arrogant idiot I expected him to be (and some). His long suffering wife Sutton is one of the ladies that has suffered as a result of this despicable man, however has the joy of having two wonderful daughters Nikki and Heather, The two girls couldn't be more different as characters but equally as readable. Nikki is the party girl where a silly mistake gets her into an impossible situation. Heather on the other hand is a kind and gentle soul who is married to an amazing guy who is her world. Then on the other end of the spectrum you have Kassidy, Sheridan's assistant who is not only hired for her skills but for her antics in the bedroom.
Phew...already I feel overloaded and I have already read this book! However the reality of reading this couldn't be further from the truth. As each woman takes a thread to the story it gets more and more involved, dangerous and seems that nobody has any idea just how much double crossing is going on. At the halfway point I was completely and utterly enthralled, addicted and absolutely convinced that no amount of cajoling from my husband would move me from my sofa, book in hand.
A lot of the story features the women, however the main event that this story centres around is a major boxing match that will be set in the Barbados hotel featuring Hatton Eden. Hatton and his manager and trainer Fidge were excellent and added another layer of spice to the story. The settings for this sun drenched romp could't be any better and it made me long for a sandy beach. It's a saucy read (it seems Nigel is getting saucier with each book he writes and I LOVE it), so make sure you don't have any nosey neighbours reading over your shoulder. Although in real life I did have to put the book down (sadly I HAD to eat) I read it in as near to one sitting as is humanly possible. If you are slightly prudish, then maybe not the book for you. For me this has everything PLUS MORE and I think this is my favourite of his books to date. Whoever said men couldn't write romp clearly hasn't had the pleasure of reading Mr May! Roll on the next book!
It's no secret that I absolutely love Nigel May's books and they have very quickly became some of my most anticipated books of the year. Lovers and Liars was a book I was more excited about than most because of the most amazing letter that I received from Nigel a couple of months ago (more on that later!). I do love a good bonkbuster and the tag of the male Jackie Collins has never been more true than with this book because Nigel really is the king of having everything in his novels. They transcend genres and just have everything I look for in a book and more. It is impossible to pick a favourite, but Lovers and Liars is certainly up there. I have said so much in the past about why I love Nigel and his books but I'll try and keep this one short and sweet, and a short review for me is still a mini essay!
Some of my most favourite settings in fiction have been the glamorous hotels created by Queen Jackie and the formidable Lucky Santangelo and setting is something that Nigel does perfectly. He completely transports me as a reader to the most glamorous, to die for (literally for some) settings that just sound so amazing that I wish I could go myself. His vivid, descriptive writing completely brings them to life on the page and it's just fantastic. In this one we first visit Barbados to the most amazing sounding resort and hotel (before setting off around the world) on the opening night of the biggest boxing fight ever, but it's not the boxers who make the ultimate headline that night but the discovery of millionaire playboy Sheridan Rivers who is found murdered in his hotel room, and there's no shortage of suspects.
Written in his now signature style we are taken back in time to meet all of the characters that make up the book, and to learn more about why each of them may have had a reason (or twelve) to want Sheridan dead. He isn't the most likeable of men and it soon becomes clear that he had a whole multitude of enemies. Nigel always creates strong female characters and what I find so impressive about each of his books is how he makes all of his female characters so unique and different from what he has written about before. It would be all too easy for them to just be caricatures of each other but real effort is put into creating some truly memorable female characters. What I noticed at the beginning of this one was just how much of an effect Sheridan had on some of the women and I won't go into detail but it was very much about them discovering themselves and trying to break free of this controlling hold that he had over them, and his murder allows them to begin to do that. For this reason one of my favourites in the beginning was Kassidy and then Nikki. Another standout character was boxer Hatton Eden who was certainly an intriguing character and was one of the reasons I nearly cried reading this book (with total happiness) because (spoilers coming up!) he's interviewed by a character named after me!! and the scene where this interview takes place might just be my most favourite scene ever in a book. My Kindle was literally rattling in my hands I couldn't even contain my excitement.
For those that have found Nigel's books steamy in the past, I'm saying nothing other than he's certainly upped his game even more in Lovers and Liars and it's just fabulous. Read it in private and enjoy! As I said earlier in this review, everything and more... The mystery element in Nigel's books is also one of the most strongest parts of each of his books and because there's such a multitude of enemies that could have killed Sheridan and because we are constantly learning new things about the relationships that he had with them, I found it impossible to remain fixated on any one person and so I constantly had each of the characters in the frame and kept changing my mind every single time something new was revealed. Nigel's books aways leave me gasping for more and Lovers and Liars was no different and I am now impatiently waiting for the next one (as if Nigel doesn't write quick enough already!). I especially enjoy how he often writes about places he has visited himself, and so I think he should take a holiday to Cyprus ahead of his next book and include that as a setting (wishful thinking on my part!). In all seriousness though, if you haven't read Nigel's books before (where have you been?), I honestly cannot recommend them enough. Lovers and Liars gave me everything I expected from Nigel and a little bit extra and I just loved it.
Wickedly entertaining, outrageously sexy, and positively captivating!
This novel takes you into the lives of the, Velvet Hotels, Rivers’ family. They are rich. They are famous. And they have everything you would expect, designer clothes, fast cars, and private jets. But like most families with power, privilege, and money everything is not as it seems, and behind closed doors you find adultery, debauchery, lies, secrets, scandals, and murder.
It is extremely well written. The plot has an abundance of action, drama, and sex. And the characterization is bold and complex. There are characters you will love and characters you will love to hate.
To me, I couldn’t give any greater praise than to say it’s like a cross between a really good Jackie Collins and Jilly Cooper novel.
I am embarrassed to say this was the first Nigel May book I have ever read, but I think I may have just found my new guilty pleasure!
Thank you to NetGalley, especially Bookouture, for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my days! Why have I only just discovered Nigel May? Where has he been hiding? Although I have a fair idea that he has been relaxing on a sunlounger somewhere hot with an ice cold cocktail in his hand….which is exactly where I wanted to be whilst I was reading this hot, sexy, bonkbuster! If you are off on your holidays soon then you need to download this to take with you and, to be honest, if you haven’t read anything by Nigel before, you may as well pack all of his books as I have a feeling they are going to become your new favourite beach buddies!
As a teenager during the 1980s I grew up during the birth of the bonkbuster and remember many discussions on the school bus about books such as Shirley Conrans Lace (I still think about that book whenever I look at goldfish!!) So when I started Lovers and Liars I was straight away transported back to those days. Nigel May has a simply fabulous way with words and the characters that he has created are all charismatic and likeable even though they shouldn’t be! The whole book has a feel of the authors own personality running through it, it’s fun but surprisingly poignant with some very hot and heavy scenes that came across with an unexpected underlying tenderness at times. My favourite character had to be Kassidy, I just loved her scheming and devious ways and I was actually mentally cheering her on. She deserved a medal for putting up with such “personal attention” from her self obsessed boss for so many years! I always have a soft spot for the underdog but didn’t have the same affection for the ghastly Julian!
I just love the way Nigel May has taken a slightly jaded and forgotten genre and totally made it his own. The formula of bringing glamour and sex but wrapping it all up in a whodunit works perfectly here and the book exceeded all my expectations. With a wicked sense of humour running through it and a few jaw dropping scenarios, this book was the perfect summer reading package. I just loved it from start to perfectly pitched finish.
I received a copy of this book via netgalley in return for an unbiased review.
It's no secret that I am a massive Nigel May fan since discovering him last year with his novel Scandalous Lies. which you can read my review of here. I immediately went and brought his two previously published novels, Trinity and Addicted, but as often with book bloggers and reviewers, there are always new books being published and so these are sat waiting patiently on my TBR - Sorry Nigel!
After Scandalous Lies came Deadly Obsession, in which you can read my review of here, again I loved this book and Nigel May was fast become one of the authors I'm most looking forward to new novels from. I also felt that Deadly Obsession was a step up from Scandalous Lies - it was deeper and darker, and I was left wondering how Nigel May was going to top it.
Well let me tell you right away - the man is a glam fiction genius!
What I loved about this story is that right from the outset we know that there is a murder with billionaire Sheridan Rivers being the culprit. His murder is detailed in the prologue of the book where we are introduced to Sheridan and all of the suspects as they gear up for the boxing fight of the year at one of his glamorous Velvet Hotels.
What we obviously don't know is who killed him - or why. Post prologue, Nigel May takes us on a journey starting a few months prior to the murder, giving us backgrounds on the group of characters he has created and as time passes on and events unfold we are left wondering who the killer is, as Nigel has expertly written the story so that each suspect has valid motive.
I'm not going to spoil anything by saying who the killer is, but I will say I did have my suspicions about said person!
Lovers and Liars has a great character cast and I adore the wonderful names Nigel comes up with - keep your eyes peeled for one you may recognise in a future book ;-)
Nigel May has a great way of taking a small handful of characters, each with their own sub story lines detailed greatly in the beginning of the book. I was wondering how the bigger picture linked them together but as you read on, all becomes clear and it works.
It just bloomin' works with lies and affairs, secrets and deceit and of course the sex and glamour we come to love in a Nigel May novel.
I loved the female characters of the story - Sutton, Nikki and Heather in particular. Sutton is Sheridan's long suffering wife with Nikki and Heather their daughters and despite the fabulous live Sheridan's money can buy them, at times of the book they showed real vulnerability and really depended on each other. I didn't particularly like Sheridan, he was a bit money arrogant but I felt he was created to be like this so I didn't feel bad for long. Equally I didn't feel bad for his PA Kassidy either - there was something sly about her in the first half of the book which is proved in the second half. I also enjoyed reading about Hatton and Fidge - Boxer and Manager, and their secret love for each other. I definitely feel we need more appearances from DJ Blair though!
Overall, Lover and Liars is what you want in a book - yes there are sexual scenes but this is balanced out with murder. There's lies balanced out with love. There's penthouse suits and private jets on exotic locations. A life millions of miles away from the ones most of us live.
Lovers and Liars is pure escapism, a complete page turner and full of unexpected twists and turns.

First of all I have to say what a shock and lovely surprise it was to find out Nigel put me in the acknowledgements in Lovers And Liars. A massive thank you to you Nigel I am over the moon.
Lovers and Liars is the second novel I have read by Nigel May which I absolutely freaking loved!!! This is one hell of a sexy crime story. Nigel is definitely lives up to his tag name bonkbuster with this story. This story is very steamy with the element of crime woven in.
So we start off with one exciting prologue where we are introduced to Sheridan Rivers Owner of a famous hotel in Barbados where Hatton Eden welterweight champion of the world is to take on Orlando Vince in an event called The Belter Of The Swelter. Then we are left hanging when Rivers wife Sutton finds him with his head caved into a bloody pulp! OMG…...Love it. From this moment I was hooked. The author then takes you on one incredible journey. Meeting lots of characters along the way, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and devoured this in one day.
So who killed millionaire playboy is what this story is all about with several suspects in the frame. Just when I thought I had worked it out I was then transported back three decades and given an insight of what happened then keeping me anticipation!! Nigel May as a way with words making this one hell of a read. I was totally transfixed in the glamorous world of Lovers And Liars.
I cannot recommend this book enough giving it a massive hot and saucy 5 stars.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for an advanced reader's copy in exchange for a honest review
I usually like a good trashy, celebrity, holiday read but I found myself skipping bits to get to the juicy detail. Worth a beach read sat in the sun with a cocktail though.
I'm not sure how I made it this far in life without reading any books written by Nigel May, but I am so happy that I finally found out about him...better late than never! Lovers and Liars, written by Nigel May, is a truly awesome book!! This book has a bit of everything in it...glamour, sex, romance, mystery, and of course, humor.
Sheridan Rivers, millionaire playboy, has screwed over many people, so nobody is truly surprised when he ends up dead at his hotel in Barbados. Four women in particular have good reasons to want him dead, but who actually killed Sheridan remains a mystery. Sutton is Sheridan's long neglected wife. She has taken the backseat to his numerous lovers, and maybe she just finally got tired of looking the other way. Kassidy is Sheridan's assistant, in more ways than one. She has always longed to be as rich as her boss, but would she actually get rid of him? Nikki is the oldest daughter of Sheridan, and is harboring a secret...a secret her dad found out about. Would she kill her own father to keep him from exposing what she has done? Heather is definitely a daddy's girl, but she blames her father for something that happened. Would she actually take that blame and use it to seek revenge?
This story is extremely well-written and brilliantly executed. The twists and turns will leave you guessing, especially since the main suspects all had good reasons to want to see Sheridan dead. I usually can figure out who the killer is, but not this time, because all of the suspects had such legitimate reasons. When I say everyone was a suspect, I mean it. The female characters are all strong, complex women...each unique in her own way. Sheridan had control over all of them, and a lot of this story is about them finally taking a stand and having a mind of their own. As the story unfolds, more details are revealed about Sheridan's relationships, which only adds to the mystery of his death. Overall, this was an awesome read...full of possible suspects, some definite steamy scenes, and female characters that are so well written that you can't help but to feel for them on some level. I would strongly recommend reading this book! I will be looking forward to reading more by Nigel May.
I was given a digital copy of this book from Bookouture and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have read and loved every one of this author's books. Not one for this genre usually but there is something about the way he writes the most amazingly big characters that makes this, for me, my guilty pleasure genre! We start at the end with Sheridan Rivers being murdered. We then rewind a few months and read about what happened in the lead up to this death. We follow his wife, his two children, his PA, and a young boxer and his manager as their lives intertwine and intersect on their way to the fateful day. As we learn more about his relationship with each character we see that he is really not a very nice man at all and that each and every one has good reason to murder him. With Rivers being the founder of a multinational hotel chain, the action takes place all over the world and, as I was reading, I wondered if the detail contained within the book about each setting was gleaned from distant research or did the author actually visit. In my head, I'm imagining the latter, especially as each setting came across as totally realistic. I have actually added a few places on to my "want to visit" list for future holidays although I think I might avoid the Velvet chain! With so many people having such valid reasons for wanting Rivers dead, I quite gave up trying to work out who had actually done it and just went with the flow of the story, immersing myself into their world of glamour and glitz and loving my time spent with all the brilliant characters that this author always comes up with. The "romantic" scenes are a little more graphic this time but still very well written and in keeping with the storyline. I keep saying that I am not a prude but I do tend to "gloss over" these scenes in most books but with this author, I have no need to skim. Oh and I do like that even though all his books are stand alone, this author does sneak in characters from other books from time to time. I like this as it makes me feel part of an exclusive club every time I spot a familiar face! So, all in all, another great addition to an already brilliant back catalogue. I really can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
My king of the bonkbuster is back with Lovers and Liars, and its whole host of jetsetting locations and scandalous scenes. The sex is hotter and kinkier than ever before, so if you are slightly squeamish about lots of raunch, then you may struggle with this book.
I was hooked the second I read the prologue and wanted to know just who it was that kills Sheridan Rivers. As the book progresses you are given the last 6 months of his life, as well as all of the potential suspects. I found though after the initial intrigue, it took me a while to really get to grips with book, as there are a lot of characters introduced all at once, in small sections, and it takes time to get a handle on who is who, and how they may all relate to the story.
Even while I was working my way through the first perhaps half of the book, I was still thinking that the writing is definitely up to Nigel May's normal standard, and that the whole book felt reminiscent in style to that of Victoria Fox and Tasmina Perry.
The heat in this book is sizzling, and that could be taken to mean the weather in the Caribbean or the sexual nature of the book. There is a large amount of bed hopping, and women sleeping with men not for love but for alternative reasons, as well as all manner of things happening in the "privacy" of the suites at the Velvet hotels.
Sheridan Rivers, is the founder of the Velvet Hotel chain, and has set up properties all over the world, with the main locales in this book being Barbados, St. Lucia, New York, Crete and Tokyo. I loved the scenes with Heather and Max in Crete, as they were getting a feel for the island, before Sheridan flew over.
I couldn't help but feel sorry for Sutton at times, as she really isn't a happy woman, as her plastic surgery obsession indicates.
This is a story of intrigue, murder, blackmail, corruption, family dynamics and a whole lot more besides. All the threads are intricately woven, and make for really compulsive reading, especially once the pace picks up.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Bookouture for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.
I loved this book. I wanted to be there in Barbados, or even Crete or Toronto.
There’s crime, but no grime.
Sutton was my favourite character. So glamorous. Absolutely beautiful, but didn’t think she was. And she loved her family so much. I liked the look in to her past. Her grandmother was ace!
Sheridan was not a likeable man, but a very successful one. He pissed off a lot of people. I loved Heather, a nice kind soul. Not affected by all the riches of the family. Nikki was fun too, but got into some scrapes. Julian…..urgh…don’t even get me started on him. I felt a bit sorry for Kassidy, on call 24/7. But she was so valuable, in all aspects, to Sheridan. Blair for me was the image of Calvin Harris, oh yummy. Hatton Eden in my mind was the supersexy Tom Hiddleston *swoons*
It was nice to see characters from previous books sneak in there, Blair, Evie, Portia, Caitlyn.
Lots of the glitz and glamour I associate with Nigel May. I want to stay at a Velvet hotel. And the private jets too. Just perfect. They were well-used in this story.
The ending was perfect, some twists and turns in there. Not what I expected. It had definitely kept me guessing.
An easy 5 star rating for me. I even booked a holiday whilst reading it!! It must’ve put me in the mood. I look forward to the next one Nigel.
Thanks to the great publishers, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the copy.
Nigel May has been often compared to Jackie Collins, who I absolutely adored. Upon hearing these comparisons I knew that I had to immediately check out his work as I’ve been a fan of JC for years. I’m delighted to say that May fills up a part of the hole in my heart that appeared when the lovely Ms. Collins passed.
This book is filled with a colorful cast of characters that are both fascinating and repelling. There are some who you loathe because they are absolutely vile, there are others that I adored for their strength, witty bitchiness and naughtiness.
Sheridan Rivers is murdered right at the start of the book, then you go back to several months prior to his death. The man has no shortage of enemies as the reader soon discovers, and as his shocking misdeeds are revealed you can’t help but wonder how he managed to stay alive as long as he did.
Getting a glimpse inside the world of the fabulously wealthy is always so fun for me. Layered with exotic locales, sex, gossip, and glitz, this book takes you on one hell of a sexy ride. Every character has dirty little secrets hidden which adds intrigue and deceit to this spicy novel.
This book is a perfect summer read as it is hip, current, racy and oh so entertaining. Grab a cocktail and head to the pool with a copy of Lovers and Liars for a light, breezy and devilishly naughty treat.
Lovers and Liars is the fifth novel by British author Nigel May. It is the story of the Rivers family, hotel tycoon Sheridan, his wife Sutton, and their daughters Nikki and Heather, during a six month time period. The prologue sets up the story as the world championship prize fight takes place at the Velvet Barbados. Sheridan is set to make millions in the new arena he had built just for the occasion. The trouble is, Sheridan will not be attending this event, or any other. The story then goes back three months to lay the groundwork for the events to follow.
This novel is filled with opulence and exotic places; tawdry relationships and emotional turmoils. But all is not bright and shiny in the Caribbean sun. Back deals and back stabbing, blackmail and illicit affairs, capped off with wrongful death and murders, this tale has it all.
While I did find it difficult to get into this story, once I did I was invested in finding out what would happen next, almost like a biblio soap opera. So much bad could have been prevented if not for greed, but the reader will greedily devour this story. Nigel May follows suit with his prior writings taking you into the realm of the rich and famous and showing that the grass isn't really greener, it's just that the lighting is much better.
Oh well done Nigel! Sex, drugs & Rock 'n Roll, well a hot dj anyway! This is the perfect pool read, especially if you are the Caribbean or Crete!
This is very much a book about the women in the life of Sheridan Rivers - his wife, his daughters and his PA. But it is much more than that. It is about life in the fast lane, hiding one's true identity, having to live much of your life in secrecy. It's about loyalty, both family, relationship and business. And it is very much about what happens when you don't give a damn about anyone but yourself and your money. And I'm not just talking about Sheridan.
We learn Sheridan is murdered very early on, and in true Agatha Christie style, Nigel reveals all the players and their motives as the book progresses. You are then faced with one "victim" and any number who could have killed him! And you don't really blame any of them!
I loved Sutton and her family, their fierce loyalty and love was truly amazing in the face of the deceit and treachery surrounding them. Hatton, too, came from a poor background and had made good. I felt sorry for the deception he was forced to keep up.
Great book, unexpected ending and I'm so glad we have a worthy successor to the late, great Jackie Collins!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley.com and to the publisher for the ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
Run, don’t walk to your favorite e-book seller on the 16th of June to download this sizzling hot summer beach read! Nigel May manages to take a group of self-centered a-holes and turn quite a few of them around back into decent people with his latest page turner set within a Barbados hotel.
What I loved: Nigel May knows how to build tension and suspense so I raced through this book. His character development is terrific – he has the bad turn good and some of the good ones go bad. I was constantly guessing as to who committed the murder and was surprised when it was finally revealed in the end. Didn’t see that one coming!!
What I didn’t love: Some of the sex scenes were even too smutty for me but I still loved them! I didn’t need to wear my Nars Orgasm blush for those passages!!
What I learned: Family will be there for you always even if you’re a huge f*%*-up.
Once again we have a story from the mind of the man they say is the male equivalent of Jackie Collins. He does not disappoint with this tale.
The story starts by telling us how it ends, then the author takes us back in time to allow us to find out who the main players are and why they would have a reason to murder someone. All of those involved have secrets they are keeping, and even more come out as you continue reading the story.
There is a lot of heartbreak for some of the characters, and I found myself feeling emotional at times while reading.
By the end of the story I was constantly second guessing myself as to who the culprit could be, but once again with this author I was proven totally wrong.
A great summer holiday read with a storyline which will keep your attention throughout.
Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my! This novel is certainly a Page Poser! You really need to read, devour and enjoy every single line of Nigel May's sensational sexy and intriguing story that centres on the murder of millionaire playboy Sheridan Rivers. Having read Deadly Obsession before I was having palpitations at the thought of yet another of Nigel May's books. He certainly hit the spot again with this one, where he supplies glamour scandal and a brilliant plot with lots of suspects to choose from. Why I would have even served time myself to rid the world of the victim! The story begins at the end with the murder, then the story goes back in time to see who had reason to kill him. This novel will be right up the street for any Nigel May fan and I know he will gain many more on his way too with this book. I wish to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Intrigues and crimes and other unexpected occurences are taking place every couple of pages, in this novel about the first and second generation of nouveau riches. The main focus is the family of tycoon Sheridan Rivers whose greediness - either money or women, nothing seems to be enough for him - will finally cost his life. The collateral victims are his daughters and wife and, in general, everyone getting in touch with him. Every protagonist of the story seems to hide more or less immoral secrets, that are revealed when you expect less. With a lot of hard core scenes and thriller episodes - with thugs from NY and other underworld characters -, there is enough material for an entertaining soap opera. I particularly appreciated how the time sequences are integrated into the big story, allowing to see the full picture of the characters through the past and present episodes. A perfect summer read combining a sizzling story line with a mystery and stunning settings. You can really lose yourself in the investigation and enjoy the opulence. He creates fascinating characters that draw you into a fantasy world that I will never experience but can enjoy through his pages! His books are real page turners in a fantasy world. I’ve read that he’s likened to a male Jackie Collins and he definitely has a similar feel around his books and with his glamorous characters and the ability to induce a blush! Ideal read to sit by the poolside or on the beach, hopefully with an ice cold drink by your side. Many thanks to Bookoutre and Net Galley for the chance to read this one.
It wouldn’t be summer without a classic sexy beach bonkbuster, and here it is! Featuring a glittering cast of glitzy, glamorous and filthy (rich) characters, this book will take you on a thrilling summer getaway to Barbados. Steamy sex, ruthless murder, bitchy scandal, deadly revenge & the sparkliest champagne. What more could you possibly want? I’m a fan of Nigel’s writing, his dry humour really comes through & I really love how all the threads of the story eventually come together. Such a clever twisty writing style. Five stars!
Nigel May has written another brilliant totally absorbing and incredibly fantastic book. This is the third book I have read by Nigel and what I love about his books is that you know you are in for a few hours of pure escapism, this one being no exception.
An absolute page-turner, Lovers & Liars is an intriguing novel full of twists and turns that keeps you guessing, superb characters, steamy scenes - a perfect holiday read! I enjoyed every bit of it and I look forward to seeing what this author brings us next.
Lovers and Liars is the first book by Nigel May that I have read and now, I want to read them all. I loved this book - it has a bit of everything: glamour, romance, high society gossip and murder! It is a thrilling, nail-biting and compelling read. I was reminded of the glamour of Jackie Collins novels, with the addictive sauciness of Penny Vincenzi's books, and, if that was not enough to get me turning the pages, there was mystery and intrigue, culminating in murder. Loved, loved, loved. Now I'm off to read all of this brilliant author's other books.
