Nope. Rant ahead. You might want to skip this review.
Seriously.
Don't try to sell it to me that Dex had no idea what was going to happen to Aislinn all those years ago when he left. Don't write that Dex is all cut up, destroyed and fucking surprised about the hell she went through. It was more than obvious what was going to happen and everyone that had a chance to stop it from happening, did jack shit. Including Dex.
Then when it all gets laid out for him, he's all "but you are the only woman for me" blah blah blah...and they're all lovey-dovey together.
Fucking bullshit!
The supposedly strong connection the two of them was obviously pretty fucking weak seeing as he moved on with his life pretty easily. They were never together, but they were each other's best friends and like soulmates. While it may not have all been sushine and roses for Dex, it was certainly a fuckload better than what Aislinn went through. Why, oh why, do authors tend to write such shitty, fucked up lives for their heroines?? There's not even one good moment with a man, until the hero, no matter how undeserving that hero is. Yet, the hero gets to live life however the hell he chooses, fuck around and have fun.
I really struggled to finish this book. And only did because...I don't know...maybe I was hoping it was going to get better. I would have liked it had there had been some sort of resistance from Aislinn before they hooked up. But there wasn't. She was angry and blamed him for so many years, to have it all just turn around and be all "i've loved you forever" bullshit, not even remembering all the pain and heartache she'd been through previously. And seriously? After everything she'd gone through when she was a teenager, and even with Nicholas, am I supposed to believe she has absolutely no hangups whatsoever when it comes to sex???!!
Don't even get me started on the surprise daddy!
Disappointing 1.5 stars
