When ghosts start appearing all over town, my witch friend Isabel and I are pulled in to help the necromancers exorcise the wayward spirits. With the dead refusing to stay dead, it's easier said than done. And there's something worse hiding on the wrong side of the grave. As an old adversary puts a dangerous plan in motion, I’m forced to learn more about the magic I stole from Faerie's darkest corner. But every step brings me closer to the veil, and if I’m not careful, I’ll be ripped away from the people I love and trapped in Death forever.

Another day, another book from the Changeling Chronicles
The land of Faerie is magical *yah no shit sherlock* but that means being there, changes you and gives you power … and Ivy was *trapped* there for a long long time
Ivy Lane our heroine is a magical badass detective who runs her own business with...
Isabel the witchy best friend and partner in *solving* crime with
Erwin their self-appointed protector pixie
“Isabel came out of the house. “You look like you saw a… ghost,” she finished, as Erwin flew out, screaming, “Bad faerie!” He landed on the banshee’s head, tearing at her hair. “Get your faerie away from me!” she yelled. “Erwin, no,” I said. “Protecting you!” screamed the piskie. Oh, dear god. Isabel looked at me like I’d sprouted horns. “What have you doing?”
Vance the asshole, I mean all powerful mage lord that we all totally respect and do not mock at all
Each book has some fun characters, fast plot revolved around Ivy saving everyone, and we get a hint of info thats clearly building up to something. But we already in book 4 and I haven’t really seen the growth or development in our heroine or main plot that most have AND EXPECT after 4 fucking books
Overall, I’ve really been enjoying this series *I mean I’m on the goddamn 4th one already* but I also haven’t really been “wowed”. They are fun fast reads to enjoy a fresh take on the magical detective trope through its fun characters and unique worldbuilding. Here we got the Faerie World, the Grey Veil and the “regular” world where the humans live beside the half-fey, necromancers, etc …. And everyone hates each other ! What could possibly go wrong for our little changeling detective

Another great read in the Changeling Chronicles series. In this book Ivy has another problem to solve, the dead are rising and the necromancers aren't much help. She thinks she knows what's going on, but ofcourse no one is listening to her. Except for Vance who always has her back. I disliked Lady Granville with how she so easily dismissed Ivy her warnings and ideas just because she wasn't a mage. She really rubbed me wrong.
This book is again filled with lots of action, a fast paced story and magic. There are some great twists towards the end and I liked how the story developed. Like the previous books it starts of with something going wrong, then investigation and then it escalated into big trouble at the end. It's a bit of a pattern every book has, but it works. I also liked how this one tied in with one of the previous books quite nicely and introduces a new problem that doesn't get fully solved in this book.
Ivy is a great character to follow, by now she understands her magic a bit more, but there are still scenes were you feel she is a bit out of her depth. But I like seeing her improvise and finding a way out of whatever difficult situation she find herself in now. And I love Vance and Ivy together, they are great and I like how they fight together and have each other their backs. There is little focus on the actual romance, but the bit of romance that there is fits the tone of the book perfectly.
While book 3 focused on a problem with the shifters, this book focuses more on necromancy, necromancers, ghosts and undead. It was interesting to read more about that. The necromancers have played a role in all the books so far, but never as much as in here, with all the rising dead and ghosts around. And we get to know even more about the faeries, half faeries, faerie magic and even the veil and the death realm as well.
To summarize: all in all this was another solid read in this series and I am already looking forward to book 5! There an old adversary causing trouble and Ivy has to figure out what exactly is going on and what to do against is. Vance has her back, but the rest of the mage council isn't inclined to listen to her. It's filled with action, magic, supernatural trouble and more. This book focuses on the undead and it was interesting to see more of those and the necromancers. It nicely builds upon the previous books and we learn even more about the world.
I want to like/love this series but it's always SSDD and no development. Some how it's always up to Ivy to save the day and no one else has the skills to do it. She always comes out by the skin of her teeth as she bumbled her way through everything. I'm not sure why her lover stays but for some reason her spastic recklessness is found charming. I don't mind it for a few books but after that work your skills, expand and learn some control. We'll see what the next book brings us.
This is the fourth book in the series, and despite all of the adventures the main character, Ivy Lane, has faced so far, this book once again builds an exciting battle with new unknowns and a couple of fresh characters thrown in.
With ghosts coming out of every corner, ones armed with magic to kill, Ivy has a lot on her plate. She might be a kick-ass fighter with some wicked magical skills, but these do little good against an enemy which doesn't really exist.
Ivy's come a long way since the beginning of her adventures, and no matter how impossible things get, she doesn't back down and works as best she can with what she has. Although she still often gets in over her head, her decisions and actions are more thought out and show a certain amount of maturity even when she's pushed into situations which require simple gut reaction and instinct. She's still kick-ass, but now with a dash of experience which makes it even more fun to read.
This book was a little slower paced than the first three. Ivy spends more time interacting and trying to be diplomatic with the people around her as she figures out how to handle the new threats. This is said with tongue-in-cheek because Ivy isn't exactly a tea talk kind of character. She still dives from one tense situation into the next, must constantly fight for her own life and that of others, and searches for new changes of clothes along the way. There's a perfect balance of action, deathly situations, mystery and humor to make this one of those books that can't be put down.
The romance, although still there with a very swoon worthy hero, slides onto the back burner as Ivy spends more time concentrating on the mystery surrounding the new threat, which under the circumstances, fits well with the plot. The layers of clues unfold nicely, although, at the end, the villain's intended plan remains hazy around the edges. Ivy's own magic is still unclear and doesn't make much advancement, leaving a lull in that area as well. The ending hits with a bang, offering an entirely fresh perspective for the continuation of the series with all sorts of unforeseeable twists and turns to come.
In other words, bring on book 5 because this exciting adventure promises even more surprises for all characters involved.

This is book four in this series. It is important to start with book one, or you'll be lost. Ivy Lane is a true fighter. She is enhanced by magical powers, that she has fought to the, death, to obtain. She helps the town, and the Mages, and even the Necromancers, who do not help much at all. She in in love with the head of the Mages. He is sexy, and strong, and has amazing powers himself. He also listens to her, and believes in her, and treats her with great respect. This book deals with ghosts, and half ghost fairy. It is hard to fight what you cannot see. Ivy travels back, and forth through the veil to fight a ghost that should have moved on, but his magic has allowed him to wreck havoc. There is also a new foe, that she faces that will be back. These books are like candy, and you gobble them up. You have to play close, attention, because the book has so much action, that it is easy to drop a few words. Words are important, especially in Fairy. This book showed a more insightful Ivy, as she takes the time to listen to those who died, as she escaped from the veil long ago. She also shows sadness, and remorse, but they are for things ,she had no way of controlling then, or now. I love her time spent with Vance. I wish there was time for more. The ending was great, but it left a wide door open, for book five. I believe another Lord has his eyes, on our Ivy. I also wish that her friend, and witch, could be more involved in a story, taken captive, or something. She seems to be there for Ivy , working to help her, but you know very little about her. Ivy definitely carries the heavy load, and engages each baddie mostly alone, since others are needed, in fights to save the town. Ivy is also not just a human, and her strengths, some which she finds by accident are growing. She does not do it for glory , but for her job, and actual concern for others. She faces death over, and over, and still many of the Mages find fault with her. She truly cares for a few of them, but loves only one .This would have been a five, but she fought the same villain, she had already defeated. This time in ghost form. He was evil, and powerful, but still I grew weary of him, as they tried to capture and defeat, those he controlled. That had already been done before, so it was just a new twist, on an old theme. I still loved the read, and will grab book five when it comes out.
Kept getting interrupted while reading this. However I liked the mysteries that Ivy and her friends solve. I like Ivy's relationship with Vance. What I didn't like was the constant bickering that goes on. So annoying. Hopefully that changes in the next book.
I'm not sure what happened between this book and the last but I continually wondered if I had somehow missed or skipped a book in the series. This one doesn't pick up where the last one left off and suddenly there's this feeling of the story having progressed in a way that hadn't been detailed or explained. That's what lead to the lower ranking on this one for me. For instance, I was surprised Vance told Ivy he loved her and there was no reaction from her for hearing the words for the first time. Perhaps I skimmed and missed his first declaration? Also, all of a sudden there are all of these people on the Mage council who had never been mentioned before of which Ivy is an honorary guest with a regular seat to help decide on matters brought to the council.
Also I finally understand why I've been so confused with a couple of these books. The author definitely should clean up the parts in the book when Ivy is fighting and says she "stabbed" someone. Because then she misses. That's "stabbing at" someone which causes confusion because I fully expected the person to have been impaled. Even cleaning it up by having something follow like, "or at least I tried to" so that I'm not suddenly wondering what happened and why she's still fighting or her opponent having escaped uninjured and not due to magical healing.
There's just too much going on in this book too. The explanations about the veil, the gray Vale, the differences between the spirit realm, ghosts, and gates and what was and wasn't possible was too jumbled and I never got straight on the information the author was trying to share through Ivy's dialogue and revelations.
Besides all of the above, I'm about sick of the same tired plot about the veil and its being disturbed and the supernatural groups not listening to the Mage Lord. I mean, how many near disasters must there be before the other people get a clue?
I do like Isabel and Colby as we get to know him a little more. Lord Evander's death I felt has been coming for a while and it finally happens so I was not surprised by that event. However, I was surprised at the suddenness with which the Mage Lord challenges Lady I forget her name was out of place I felt though I do understand and agree with the decision. Ivy has several great qualities, her loyalty, willingness to face danger head on, desire to see the greater good, and ability to fight through faerie mind tricks when they bring up past memories. I find myself more annoyed by her smart mouth and running off to do things on her own without calling for backup. Not so sad to say that this is the last book I'll read in this series. It just isn't going anywhere and Ivy has lost her allure, at least for me anyway.
Great book, love, love Love this author, Emma L. Adam's, action, adventure, romance, Oh My!
Ivy Lane, neither mage, nor witch, or necromancer, but has the magic of a Faerie, the speed of a half faerie. Willing to defend those who can not defend themselves. Feisty lady, quick of tongue, great fighter, wonderful friend witch, and co-worker. No stranger to hard work, blood, trolls, hydra, crazy half faeries. I thoroughly enjoy reading this series, couldn't put each book down once opened.
As Ivy and Isabel take on an exorcism job along with the necromancer apprentice Colby it becomes apparent that things are definitely not right in the great beyond.
With faerie undead appearing, attacks on faerie, mage and necromancer alike and Ivy being hounded by both the Fae undead and Lady Granville who appears determined to break up her relationship with Vance.
But how are the Fae undead so strong? What has Calder done to both break the veil and power up the other undead? Can Ivy stop him before he unleashes her worst fears or finds a new body to inhabit?
Ivy can never catch a break. Calder may be a ghost but he is still stirring up trouble; planning to being the wild hunt into the human realm and destroy everything. Ivy and Vance are a great team and worn together to stop any threats that come their way. However Ivy makes a mistake that could cost them everything. Humor, action, romance and magic; this book has it all!
Faerie Wrath is the fourth book in The Changeling Chronicles by Emma L. Adams. As Ivy Lane learns more about what she can do with her powers, her daily life becomes more and more dangerous. Ghosts of half-fairies are terrorizing people all over Birmingham, England. It's up to Ivy to find out what is wrong with the Vale along how to keep a ghost from returning to earth. Overall, this was a great read. Each story in this series builds off of what was established in the previous books.
This book felt very repetitive to me, same basic storyline, same villain, same characters acting like jerks, Ivy to the rescue even when her opponent is more powerful, etc. So even though there was a fair amount of action in this book, I was bored by it all. Also not helped by the constant immature comments from the main heroine Ivy, who to me just comes across like a petulant teenager. This will probably be the last book in this series for me.
2.5 stars nothing wrong with the book. It was perfectly acceptable I took a break from the series because I felt as if the stories were getting repetitive but wanted to give it another go a slow read, a lot going on. Perhaps because it's been a minute since I've read the last book, but I could never get fully invested in the story
Not going to lie it took me a long time to continue the series with this book. However, I am not sure why it took so long since once I actually started it, it only took me a day and a half to actually finish it.
Awesome series. Great cast of characters fantastic storylines and very entertaining. Magic and mayhem in an urban fantasy world of supernatural and mythical creatures in people. Follow the adventures and see where they lead. You will not be disappointed
This book is hard to put down as Ivy and Vance go to war with the undead! Faeries, ghosts, necromancers and half faeries all fight a war over the town. It's a great book.
I just can never put down one of Emma’s books! I have a severe handicap of going with no sleep if I read one at bedtime as it’s gone 5 am yet again before I even realize it lol. Gotta love a great writer tho right👍🏼🥴🤩
Emma Adams has a flair for drama and mysteries. Love this book. A new badbutt villain has arrived can’t wait to see ivy bring him down. Wish there was more romance tho.
This book finally pulls together and ends the story arc in a big free-for-all, so I highly recommend you don't start with Faerie Wrath. I have a love-hate relationship with Ivy, the main character. She is a tough ex-mercenary who has decided to protect the Mages and deal more fairly with the Necromancers. Her arch-nemesis, a half-faerie, has been plotting to return to life, and in this novel we see how he plans to do this. It is clever and complex (even though Ivy says he is not a complicated thinker. Little does she realize.) But because of Ivy's past, she tags every faerie and half-faerie as an enemy and untrustworthy. I hope in the 5th novel she learns to overcome some of that bias. Most of the secondary characters are believable and make good decisions in their own right, and I think I like the banshee and her witch-friend. However, her main love interest, Vance, fails to interest me in this novel. He is just plain boring, and the romance is ho-hum. No, the action is the center of focus, and it is worth the read. I tend to like a healthy mix of romance and action, so this series has been one of my favorites. The ending of this story arc was satisfying and left enough to create a new story arc. It reminds me of Kim Harrison's novels, which ran to about 20 strong novels before completing the series. When it finally ended, I thought the length was perfect. I expect Emma Adams may develop this and end it when it is time, rather than some novelists I dropped. Two thumbs up, Emma.
