World of Assassins

Ghostface Killer

Rate this book
Once, I was nothing.
Hungry, abandoned, wandering, and alone. An adolescent street rat fighting for crumbs.
Then a chance encounter changed my entire world.
A man in an expensive suit asked me how much my life was worth.
I didn't have an answer, because I didn't know.
He asked if I thought it was worth killing for.
Impulsively, I said yes...

He found me, then fostered me, and in the interim turned me into a killing machine. A modern day La Femme Nikita.

Now, I only have one mission. To avenge the death of the man who saved me.

There's an invisible war on the streets. Us against them. Family against family. Power against power.

They call me Ghostface Killer because they never see me coming.

I understand the weight of that danger.
The hazard.
The jeopardy.

Because now here I stand, three months pregnant with the barrel of a gun pressed to my head cause I never saw him coming...

A talented writer can prevail in any genre. I've been following M Never since her "cupcake" days so imagine my surprise as I devoured the critically acclaimed, Ghost Face Killer.

First allow me to introduce the sexy, man-bun wearing, Baz! I swear the name alone sends me into a swoon! Stephanie aka Stevie is his "prey". I swear I can't say another thing without spewing forth spoilers, but I will say the scene around 38% is worthy of an Oscar! I read it five times before I felt I could continue. That scene is going in the history books!

Finally, kudos to MNever for stepping outside of trendy writing and exposing subjects that are identified but not spoken about in general. Exposure + transparency = relevant conversations. The shunned subjects are beautifully identified in this story as they enriched the overall reading experience! I am proud to recommend this story to EVERYONE! Don't get it twisted, though! This novel wouldn't be a MNever novel without serious mind and bed play. Trust me! Baz definitely handles every situation in and out of a bed like a BOSS!

Five stars!

5 "This was freaking spectacular" stars!!

GHOSTFACE KILLER was a story that I didn't want to end. A book that I wished could somehow turn into a series. That's how incredible, shocking, and impressive this story was. I easily fell in love with Stevie and Baz, became intoxicated with their madness, thrilled with their developing relationship, and enchanted by the growth of each character and how intensely they connected. Oh and of course I was drawn into their intimacy...

To be honest, when I first saw the title of M. Never's latest book, I thought, "Sweet. I can read this one because it doesn't have menage!", but that wasn't my only thought. The title itself caught my attention. Why?

Little known fact: I had a huge crush on Ghostface Killah from Wu-Tang Clan in high school. And when I say huge, I mean HUGE!! So imagine my glee when Staten Island, home of the Wu, was mentioned in this story. See for me, that tied it all together. Hey, don't make fun of the fecked up ways my brain works.

Anyhoo, back to this awesome story... Stevie aka Ghost was an assassin with a 100% kill rate and Baz, a mafia prince, was her first miss. Why? Because he was freaking Baz, that's why!!
"But that's Baz. Thoughtful, sweet, protective, intense. He has so many layers. And I love every single one of them."
Me too, honey. Me too. Amidst the action, the shooting, the killing, the cruel twist of fate, the twists and turns of the plot, and the insanely hot sex, Stevie and Baz fell in love. And no wonder... they were both badazz and absolutely made for each other. The entire book was intense and I love every moment of it. I hope to see more stories just like this one from this author in the near future.

*Rubs hands together, looks around excitedly* I just read the best book about a bada** women who does some dark, I mean dark things. I was all in from page one. The detailed, deliciously evil plot grasps you in its sinfully sexy clutches and does not let you back up for air until the very end! The dynamic relationship between Stevie and Baz is nothing short of phenomenal. The emotional aspects left me with butterflies and goosebumps! This IMO is an excellent read that leaves you thinking, cringing, needing a hug, blushing from the heat, sniffling all while on the edge of your seat. I am still sitting here in awe over this dark masterpiece! 5 plus stars from me!
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book

GHOSTFACE KILLER: I blame it all on the cover, one look and I wanted to read this, I didn’t look at the synopsis or who the author was, a request later and I had this in my grabby little hands. This is also a first time read for me by this author, but after finishing this book it definitely won't be my last read by this author.

They say ignorance is bliss, I was certainly ignorant when I started this, the author didn’t slowly entice me in the dark, no she stood behind me and pushed me into pure darkness. The beginning of this lulled me into a false sense of security, then I could feel the anticipation building until I couldn’t believe what I was reading, no warning whatsoever, no clue as to what was going to come at me full throttle.

In the ’Prologue’ is where it all begins. We’re introduced to a 14 year old Stevie a street urchin who has no qualms pickpocketing to fill her empty stomach. Until she pickpockets from the wrong man and things take a turn for the worst.

Handed over to a law abiding man she’s thrown into the back of a cop car with the threat of juvie staring her in the face for grand larceny in the third degree. The man in the driver's seat is a devil with a badge and a free pass to terrorise the city. I’m his latest victim.

Making a deal with the devil would’ve been easier when she agrees to let him have his way with her if he turns a blind eye and releases her, her only ticket to freedom, or so she thought, what happens next was not part of the deal. He raped me all night. In every which way.

He said he liked to break slutty little bitches like me. And he did just that. He broke me.

Then her fate is sealed when he takes her back to the precinct and throws her in a cell. To await her fate in the hands of the system.

Then the man that handed her over to the cop came back to her with a proposition, is she jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire? Would she have been better off doing her time at Juvie?

How much is your life worth?

To say I was hooked is an utter understatement, I’m a glutton for punishment, it’s not the darkest I’ve read but it offers that surprise factor where you just never know what this author is going to throw at you next. Nothing is glossed over, it’s all right there in front of your face in full detail. Twists and turns keeps you sitting on the edge of your seat, as you fall harder and harder in love with this book.

Slowly once under Benny’s wing where he offers a roof over her head he then trained her to be a ruthless killer, she became his ghost, sent out on jobs to kill, his secret weapon, his killing machine.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Born into nothing, ignored, neglected, harassed, raped, beaten, and then turned into a killer.

Her nickname on the streets is Ghostface Killer because they don’t know who she is, who sent her. She has the perfect element of surprise, no one suspects a female. A contract killer.

Until she meets twenty-eight year old Baz everything is put on the line..This man is the undoing of her. This is where it all starts to unravel. Get ready for one hell of a roller coaster ride!! This author pulls out all the stops!!

This book put me through all the paces, I felt like an adrenaline junkie reading chapter by chapter just to get my fix, seconds, minutes, hours spent with my nose in this book made the outside world cease to exist. This book just ticked all my boxes, i love books like this, nail biting, swoon worthy, high octane adrenaline, biting edge anticipation.

I highly highly recommend this!! One click come release day, you won't regret it!!

Stevie, the heroine, is supposedly a badass mafia assassin
except really, she's not. You want truly badass female, may I suggest Lisbeth Salander or Lana Myers. You want a truly badass mafia family, then read The Ruthless People Series

All in all, this was an average read, at best.

“How much is your life worth? Is it worth enough to kill for?”
And thus Bastiano "Benny" Velona finds his protégé!! He changes young Stephanie "Stevie" James life , for better or for worse..... we don't know yet .
“You steal from me, I steal from you.”
She's molded into a silent killer ,a Ghost lurking in the shadows . Invisible . Lethal . Beautiful.
Her fate is pre-written at Benny's hands. She is an extension of his hand, a hand with a gun that is. A tool to be used whenever and however he wants.
Till Benny is gone and she starts to take revenge, killing his killers one by one.
In this journey she unexpectedly meets Benjamin "Baz" Sabatino. He's oh so sexy, bearded, rugged, and vulnerable.
They are instantly attracted to each other. Their magnetic pull too strong to ignore. They don't know it yet , but their Insta-love will be going through the ultimate test of Bloodthirsty Loyalty of Familial Ties. Betrayals and Counter Betrayals threaten to tear them apart...and they do !!!
The story takes many Twists and turns from here. You'd think you have it figured out, but it flips more often than not.
It's very sweet at times, very gruesome at times and Hot panty-Melting sexy ALL THE TIME !!
Grips you from the word go and never lets your concentration stray. Some very funny writing - Gaudy would be a good word for the décor, but we don’t want to insult anyone, so we’ll call it grandiose.
I was so in love with Baz, so wanted to cuddle him and then ride his cock! He's the most beautiful of M's characters.
Stevie is very complex and very broken - heart, body and soul. Yet she's so strong !
Fast and Furious page turner, highly recommended #BookBistroBlogApproved

Whenever a new M. Never book gets announced I'm chomping at the bit to get a copy. This was no exception. It's a story unlike her other books, but it's still written with the flair and incredible punch to the gut storyline that we all expect from an M. Never book.

We follow our Ghostface Killer, Stevie from the age of fourteen. Her journey is deadly, it's dark, and it's completely unexpected. When she gets a job to go after an unknown man in the middle of Colorado, little does she know her life as she knows it is about to be knocked on it's a$$.

M. wields her magic in the intricate web of lies, deceit, and hot sex that will leave you gasping, wanting to chuck your Kindle across the room, and needing a cold shower. But, like any M. Never book, nothing is what it seems. When truths unravel, you're left with a mind f*ck of note.

Nothing can prepare you for this ride. It's dark, it's suspenseful, it's sexy, and it will leave you wanting more.

I was given an ARC for my honest and unbiased review.

Badass assassin heroine!

The. Heroine in this story overcame a lot to become quite the badass killer. I really thought I would like this one more than I actually did. Both Stevie and Bas are damaged but she is so much more badass than he is. That is ok, but there are several times when he is actually portrayed as quite a sissy.

I am not talking about being off his anti depressants, though that was bad enough because it is not sexy at all to be asking your girl to end it all for you because you don’t want to deal. Overcoming that is fairly manly. But, being afraid of needles and whining about how much your arm hurts after a shot is really not endearing.

Baz has attended to my every need. Starting with my thirst for information, patiently explaining what his “issues” truly entail. According to him, he is plagued with an adult form of ADHD, a sprinkle of obsessive-compulsive disorder, and a healthy dose of depression. I witnessed the obsessive-compulsive disorder first-hand when I caught him scrubbing the kitchen sink until he bled, and well, the depression, we were all there for that. His ADHD comes in waves and bursts of energy. Hence the amount of firewood outside. He needs to expend it, a lot, so he’s constantly coming up with ways to tire himself out. And his newest outlet is me. The man can fuck for days. Days. It’s a good thing, too, cause my sex drive is as insatiable as my appetite lately.

I guess I just couldn’t relate to these characters as much as I wanted. Though the story was good so I gave it a three. It might have been me and one of those times when I just wasn’t into it.

If you want to get blown away you need to one click on M. Never’s
Ghostface Killer.
When I sat down and started reading I was expecting, I don't know what I was expecting but the author made my pulse react from
the prologue to the end.

Seriously, you need to read this book.
The settings, the plot, the characters made this one hell of a read.
Usually known for her steam and dominant men this book follows along that path adding in suspense, intrigue with twists and turns I never saw coming.
Violent, yes.
Earth shattering sex scenes as M is known for, yes.
Periods of gritting my teeth and contemplating how this
would end, yes.
Stevie is the killer you didn't see coming.
Baz the intense lover whose secret life and changing disposition
made it difficult to believe in him.
They both kept me on my toes wondering what would happen next.
I mean who do you trust, the assassin who has been taught to kill or the man who was betrayed and isn't thinking clearly.
When not medicated Baz is one scary dude.
The author gave me an ending I didn't contemplate or a plot I never would've imagined.

I am still shaking my head asking myself how did I not see that coming.
Just wow.

Ghostface-Killer-gif
This is the story of Stevie, a 14-year-old girl who did everything to survive. She lived alone on the streets and had to deal with situations that no woman, at no age, needs to deal with... 💔

Until a man named Benny entered her life. 💥
He saved her, raised her, trained her - and made her from a broken girl - to a ruthless killer. And so, Stevie becomes a very dangerous assassin, a Ghostface Killer. ☠

📚 "𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝 𝙞𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝? 𝙄𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙩𝙤 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙛𝙤𝙧?" 📚

Years later, a terrible tragedy sends Stevie on a revenge quest. During a mission, she goes to a remote town to find her new target, Benjamin Sabatino, aka "Baz."
I will not tell you exactly what happened there, I'll just say that it didn't end like her other targets encounters... 😫

And from there, everything went to shit. 😂💩
Because despite the promising beginning, Stevie is BY FAR the worst assassin I've ever read about!!!! 😳☠😂

📚 “𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚...?” 𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙖𝙭𝙚𝙨 𝙖 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙢𝙚.
𝘿𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙝𝙞𝙢 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚. 𝘿𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙝𝙞𝙢 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚.
“𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚.” 📚

Oh, COME ON, girl! 😫😬

But not only the heroine was a bad assassin, the plot was also inconsistent. Make no mistake, my soul is very gentle and even when I read dark books, I NEED romance, but it was TOO sweet (from cold blood murder - to romantic nature walks? REALLY...?!)

Then, I didn't even finished getting upset, and suddenly... BOOM- dark again. 💥💥💥
Then... BOOM - too sweet again. 💥💥💥

Writer lady, can you decide what genre is this book - and update? Because it was very hard for me to follow...
I don't know what you think, but in my opinion - when writing a dark book, you have to keep it dark... because if not, IT'S NOT FREAKING DARK!!!!!!!! 😈😫

I think you understand my thoughts by now, so I won't ruin with spoilers - I'll just add that besides quite a few twists in the plot that I disliked, there were also very unreliable events. 😬

But what was the last straw for me, were the time jumps. It felt like the writer had a pot on the gas, so she just skipped a little forward so she could take care of her business... 😳

📚 “𝙒𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙖 𝙡𝙤𝙩 𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙚 𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧, 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙩?” 📚

WHAT...?! No sweety, NO - I REALLY can't believe it!!!!!!!!!! 😫

I really thought this book was going to be amazing. The prologue was so good, damn it! 😭
Unfortunately, I have no idea what happened next, because I decided to stop reading at 69%, but at least for me - it certainly couldn't have improved.

I enjoyed Ghostface Killer by M Never, but I have to say It didn't really blow me away, In fact, In truth, I think this may have been because my expectations of this book were just so high, maybe too damn high.
So this is going to be a short and sweet review mainly as It's been a couple of weeks since I read this and my memory of events is slightly cloudy as it just didn't quite stick in my head.
I'm having to do a quick skim through of the blurb to give my brain a kick start.
Admitingly I do have issues with my memory, but for me, this is one of those reads that was enjoyable at the time but failed ultimately to adhere.
So as I said earlier I think my expectations affected my reading experience, I usually like to go in blind just for the sheer hell of it.
but Well With this, man that blurb was just freakin amazing, a killing machine. A modern-day La Femme Nikita.
I was like Me Me! I so need to read this like right now!!!
Nikita (and I'm referring to the original series) is Like my all-time heroine & Idol, I watched this show religiously back in the day.
And for her to be a bad-ass mafia type assassin on top of it, well it felt like this book was just made for me.
Alas, It was not to be and though I did enjoy this, for me it just failed to live up to its's blurb.
Don't get me wrong there were aspects of this book that really impressed me, it's not easy to tread the minefield of mental health sympathetically, but in Ghostface Killer, M. Never, not only does this, but manages to also excel at her portrayals.
She Still somehow manages to portray Baz in a fashion, that not only shows the daily struggles he faces but does so without detracting from his overall masculinity.
Quite a feat and in this she does succeed splendidly.
So back to our girl Nikita, or should I say, Stevie, well after a horrific set of circumstances land Stevie in the local juvie.
She makes a deal with the proverbial devil and goes to work for her tarnished rescuer training to be his personal assassin.
So this is where my issues start I just wasn't getting the killer mob doll vibe from Stevie. I liked her but I just couldn't see her in that role, it just didn't fit and I'm not really sure why that is.
She walked the walk and talked the talk, but nope I just wasn't feeling the stone cold killer persona from her, sorry.
Then there was Baz, he came across as so dominant and male at times and then on other occasions like a real moaning-nelly with his I don't like violence stance.
So not what I want from the male lead.
I'm very partial to extremely dark anti-heroes who are complete dicks and stay that way.
Baz was more a big cuddly teddy very likeable but ultimately a nice bloke.
There was one moment where I thought yesss!!! this is going down a darker route, but then no my hopes were cruelly dashed.
I also struggled at times to connect with the characters involved, I just didn't have major strong feelings either way concerning them as much as I wished this to be otherwise.
So I did say I was going to keep this short, didn't I?
But, you know what I'm like when I get started waffling on, can't shut me up for toffee.
So, I'm just going to leave it here, leave the rest for you to unravel and experience alone and It's quite a knot that Baz and Stevie have found themselves entangled in.
A heaving knot of family expectations, secrets and lies all waiting to bubble over.
Ghostface Killer was quite a saucy easy read with an HEA for our pair of lovers, It explores some fascinating topics but for me, it just didn't quite hit that spot.
I would still happily recommend this but will just say if your looking for a dark read this is more of a greyish hue.
Before I go just want to share a couple passages that I bloody loved in this book the first,
Gianni Velona is a ruthless monster, just like Benny and Regina, even if “mobster” isn’t the title he goes by. Bottom line, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it’s a corrupt motherfucking duck..

Loved that one so much, had a right chuckle to myself.
And the second and last,
“You’re sort of an angel.” I snort. “Of death maybe.” “An angel’s an angel,” Baz testifies.

Classic, what a line.

So finally if you're interested in reading this Ghostface killer is available on KU.

Liked it but didnt love it...
Guess i am in minority now...*wink*

I don't wanna spoil someone else's experience of future reading of this book but i went in with high, very high expectations ( since i was still reeling from the lastest book i have been simply overtaken by, those of you who follow my reviews probably have an idea of what books i'm talking about) and with the fact that this story has very similar subject, the only distinction I was leaning on was the writing style.

And i guess it didn't quite hit home with me!

The very fact that i didn't quite connect with the characters nor have I felt the "connection" deeper than the physical pull, had only firmed my primary opinion or a gut feeling that this was an okay story but I wasn't swept away by it.

This is, of course, only my opinion and my feeling afterwards, but it doesn't mean it can't be a winner for any of you!

"If it comes; let it. If it goes; let it … Don’t be attached and you’ll find peace."

Finally I read a book that changed my mood and I’m really happy about it! this book is really fantastic. it was my first read by this author and definitely I’m going to read more of her books, if they are not Menage because I noticed most of her works are Menage and I’m not good at sharing.

When Stevie was fourteen, she was living on the street. One day she pick-pocketed the wrong guy (Benny). He handed her over to a cop who was on that street but he took her mother’s ring. That year, she had been in front of a judge twice. So she offered the cop a deal (she didn’t want to end up in juvie again). The cop agreed but once isn’t enough for him. The cop raped her all night, repeatedly. He broke her. And then he took her to jail. Then Benny appeared and asked her a question:

"I’m going to ask you once more. And you get only one reply. One reply that can change your entire situation. Your entire life, he emphasizes. How much is your life worth? Is it worth enough to kill for?"

So he became a mentor, a father figure, a protector for her. And she became his killer. Ghostface killer. But now he is murdered and she has one name, Benjamin Sabatino aka Baz. But when she finds him everything changes!

I loved all the characters in this story. But most of all, I loved Stevie’s character. She is so brave, strong, badass and so likable. I liked in this book a woman is protecting his man. I loved their relationship. I adore Baz. We had some surprises in this story and they just add more excitement to the story. The story is told from Stevie’s POV, 1’st person and surprisingly I didn’t need Baz’s POV. The writing was in such a way that compelled you to continue reading. The story is fast-paced but well-written. I really loved this one and hope you enjoy it as well!

Update: This is a Kindle freebie today (May 1st.) Despite my mediocre feelings, I still vote that everyone 1-click it!

You know you can't resist the call of a $0.00 price tag. Don't even try.

-----------------------

2.5 stars. Damn it, I really thought this one was going to be a slam dunk for me.

“And you are . . . ?” he coaxes a response from me. Don’t tell him your real name. Don’t tell him your real name. “Stevie.”

Stevie is without a doubt the worst assassin I have ever heard of.

Stevie, aka Ghostface Killer, had a rough start to life. She grew up on the streets with no one and nothing, until a powerful man named Benny rescued her. He took her in, raised her, trained her. He made her a killer. A ghost. A deadly blade hidden behind a gorgeous facade.

After a tragedy sends Stevie on a revenge rampage, her newest assignment sends her to a remote town where she encounters her target Benjamin Sabatino, aka Baz. Well, she does a little more than "encounters" him. Let's just say it's not a exactly the usual way she finishes a mark.

So what's an assassin to do when she's surrounded by lies and the man she sets out to kill ends up being something more than she ever imagined?

I have never been judge nor jury when it comes to my victims. I’m ordered and I execute. That’s my job. My purpose. Whether they deserved to die or not, it made no matter to me. Wait, correction, it was not meant to matter to me....For the first time, I’m questioning the reason. The motive. My own damn morals. Who knew I still had any of those?

So, let's start with the things I liked! Cause there were several. Numero uno, I LOVE assassin and spy stories. Did I love this one? Nah. But do I love the genre? Oh hell yeah. I wish more writers would tackle female assassins!

And speaking of writers, M. Never is a hell of a writer. Even when I'm not totally loving it, I can't deny the talent. From dark twisted fuckery (aka Owned) to sweet and fluffy (like Trinity), she's always got the writing skills on lockdown.

I also liked Baz! Well, most of the time. I don't think it was a perfect representation of mental illness, far from it. However, I think it's so rare to see depictions of adult men in fiction with issues like ADHD and depression, particularly ones that are as well developed as Baz.

What I didn't like: first and foremost, the title. Ghostface Killer. I just can't take it seriously. All I can think of is a certain awesome movie series.

Second: He spies over my shoulder with his hands resting on my hips as I smear the jelly on top of the peanut butter.

WHO THE FUCK MAKES PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY LIKE THAT? No! That is empirically wrong. Peanut butter goes on one piece. Jelly on the other. Smoosh together. You don't smear them together on the same slice! That's neglecting a whole piece of bread!

Philistines.

Third and this is a personal preference and also a spoiler. I acknowledge that it many not bother some readers.

Also, these two sentences. They should not exist.

The stroke of my orgasm manifests into a full-blown molestation as it suddenly happens. As I do exactly what he ordered me to and lose my shit all over his cock like a rehabbed junkie injecting a hit of heroin for the very first time.

Okay, but all of these are pretty minor complaints, yeah? So, let's talk about what REALLY pissed me off. Stevie's hypocritical bullshit.

MEGAfuckton spoilers in here.

What. The. Fuck. Fucking. Shitballs.

I don't even have enough curses.

Any sympathy I had toward Stevie was GONE. Like hypocrisy, especially unrecognized hypocrisy, is just one of the fastest ways to make me hate a character.

WHEW! I apparently really needed to get that rant out. Do you ever just feel totally relieved after getting review thoughts out? Apparently I was letting some rage build up on this one.

So, M. Never continues to be an author I'll look forward to reading. Even when a book ends up disappointing me like Ghostface Killer did, (ugh, I can't even type that title seriously, I seriously hate it,) the writing continues to be good. I'm always interested to see what she'll do next. And when the plot or the characters don't work for me, at least it's never a total failure. I will always find a small measure to like in an assassin story.

That PB&J shit though. That's unforgivable.

I picked this up cos I was a huge Wu Tang Clan fan back in the day (those who know of these rap gods will understand what I’m sayin). Fortunately and unfortunately, this story has nothing to do with Wu Tang or the legendary Ghostface Killah, but it’s got a girl assassin and smut. Nuff said.
Told in h’s 1st person POV, standalone story and the epilogue was a nice HFN, borderlining on HEA.

4 "Kill them fucking all." stars!

Adoro livros onde a mocinha é badass e gostei bastante da Stevie.
A escrita da autora me conquistou, achei fluída e envolvente.
Confesso que esperava uma história mais dark e que explorasse mais o mundo da máfia...
No geral, gostei bastante da trama, me cativou e foi uma leitura gostosa.

What a disappointment this book was…How can you absolutely love/devour a book and then…disappointment after disappointment - the MC’s characterisations, the stupid tropes, the (in)consistency of tone, the underwhelming, downright dumb twists…

To start with, I couldn’t help but picture the heroine as the real Ghostface Killah and may I just say, it’s not a great look for a woman.

description

Wu tang forever, baby!

Alas, that is not the problem…

I loved this book in the beginning. It was basically a 5-star read for me in the first part, particularly the prologue - but also the badass heroine. I was practically giddy reading it, I was so excited. A 14-year old girl who does anything to survive, who keeps getting hit after hit yet perseveres. Later on, a woman who owns her shit, who loves sex (gasp!) and who is loyal and strong, albeit of questionable character - but, completely understandable considering the life she led (plus, it is fiction so, you know, my standards are very different to my real life standards).

Then, we meet the hero - a bit too late in the story, maybe, but I enjoyed the first part too much to complain about that. The hero was basically perfect - he was incredibly sweet, considering and just an all-around great guy and I loved everything about him. But, it was all too nice, too perfect, too contemporary romance for a book that started off so dark. That there is the first strike - when you write a dark book, keep it dark, or else it’s just not consistent. You can’t go from the rape of a 14-year old girl and killing a man in cold blood to hearts and flowers and romantic dates hiking in beautiful sceneries. A bit of that, sure, but the whole tone of the book completely changed for a good part. And then, it continued to happen - back to dark, then back to light again and so on. It was very inconsistent and it just didn’t work.

The rest of my review, I’ll put as a spoiler, as it’s impossible to talk about the issues I had without some spoilers…

Such a waste of (what started as) an amazing heroine and hero.

For the most part this was a really good read. There was a part (right after the 50 % I think) that I didn't like much because a lot of things happened in a small amount of time.

I absolutely loved the h, the H not so much. I just wanted to see more of the h doing what she was trained to do. She was such a badass.

I didn't like it as much as I hoped I would but it was a really good read. I'll definitely read the last book in the series soon. 3 ⭐

4* red is your bitch STARS!!

Review @ Midnight Romance

description

After the previous decent experience from M. Never other book, Moto which didn't work for me, I'm gonna say the word... just WOW! I wasn't sure about this book before but I was wrong. It's a story about a girl with horrible childhood turns into a machine killer. Yup, a hit-woman. I rarely found a heroine as a killer. This is really interesting story.
“I’m going to ask you once more. And you get only one reply. One reply that can change your entire situation. Your entire life,” he emphasizes. “How much is your life worth? Is it worth enough to kill for?”

Stevie was nothing before a man took and trained her to be a hit-woman, known as Ghostface Killer. But he's not a good man and neither she is. Beside killing, Stevie loves to fuck. The harder, the better. She used to paid fuck buddy for no emotional attachment. However, her latest mission turns into unexpected surprise. Benjamin 'Baz' Sabatino supposed to be her next target. Instead, she became too comfortable with him and everything changes.

description

I've never a big fans of female lead. But Stevie really grab my attention. She has horrible childhood with abuse and sexual harassment without parents. Stevie became something else in order to survive. A quick and deadly killer with 100% success rate. Definitely bad-ass. I really admired her strength and determination.

Stevie couldn't control her feelings towards Baz because in her defense, he isn't like others. Baz is too-good-to-be-true kind of a guy. I wasn't expected him to be that nice and sweet. But I really enjoyed their sexy times at some point. They didn't waste time to fuck like bunnies. However, it became too much that made me roll eyes.
“Don’t hold back,” I tell him between frenzied kisses. “I like it hard. I like it rough. I like it dirty.”
Baz pauses to look at me. A depraved gleam burning in his eyes. “Good. Cause that’s the only way I know how to fuck.” He picks me up and urges me onto my hands and knees. I buzz with desire, anxious for him to touch me, to use me, to fuck me.

description

But their togetherness didn't last long when Baz discovered Stevie's motive. She went back like a wounded dog but still determined to found the reason about Baz. Another surprise came when they 'accidentally' met again but not in good terms. When Stevie found out the real Baz, I was surprised. It seems the family she works for has secrets and he's one of them.

Since Baz, Stevie changed so much. Her woman instinct kicks in. Baz gave her something she never felt before. He gives her hope, future and love. It was amazing moment for both of them. Two scarred souls with dark past. Also there are more surprises happened. Really unpredictable yet a bit dramatic. Overall, I really enjoyed it. Well-written along with amazing characters. A great read about a hit-woman who has happy ending with crime prince. Still, I'm pretty satisfied and liked it.
“All my fears and all my pain given a purpose. You shot me through the heart the first night I met you. And you have been dragging me around helplessly by the arrow ever since... I’m your kill, Stevie, and you are my quiet.”

I was looking forward to this. The blurb makes it sound awesome.

But my God, the first scene is a sexual assault scene on the 14-year-old heroine and the next scene is RAPE SCENE on the 14-year-old heroine...

Um...

Look, I get it, unfortunate things can happen to a main character, that is not unheard of, but the author framed the sexual assault, aka the spanking scene at the beginning of the book as "sexy."

Um, she's 14 and the grown man who is spanking her in an alley is in his thirties... That made me incredibly uncomfortable.

Also, the rape scene was unnecessarily long. That wasn't cute... This scene was written, I feel, to be sensational. There was no empathy in the writing whatsoever. The author just wanted to write a thorough rape... And sometimes it didn't even feel like a rape, it just felt like I was reading a regular sex scene at some parts, which made me cringe so hard.

Ew. Why?

Oh I know! The rape scene was to give the heroine an incentive to hold off anal sex later on with the hero, for a while, to add fake depth to their relationship, but then give it up to him a little later, because he is sexier and different than the guy who raped her.

Um... Lol. What? Why did you need THIS to give the relationship in your story meaning? The rape really didn't need to happen. The story didn't need it...

And to make things worst, the grown man at the beginning sleeps with the sixteen year old heroine and the narrative is that it is sexy...!

Grown man sleeping with underaged girls isn't cute or romantic. (Unless that is the premise of the story...)

Later, as the book progresses, after she is raped, taken under the grown man's wings and is trained, the heroine is supposed to be this hardened assasin, who takes no shit, but the moment she meets the hero, she gives all that up.

She doesn't even attempt to complete her mission lol. The insta-love is strong in this one, and it wasnt even the good kind of insta love.

I didn't hate this book. There were some not so horrible parts, but when it comes down to it, I disliked the shallow heroine and heroes. But nothing was more shallow than the story.

PROBLEM: THE RAPE PROLOGUE

The 14yo FMC pickpockets a 30-something “good looking”dude. He follows her and assaults her in an alley. Calling her “Little Fox,” he spanks her bare ass over his knee before handing her over to a cop.

^^^ 🛑🚨 This is bad enough because it’s written in a way that’s sexy’fying, normalizing the act.

He rubs his pelvis between my legs, and I whimper. Warm tears pooling in my trembling eyes. I will fight him to the death. I will never surrender. No matter how big or how powerful he is. I won’t make it easy. I won’t just roll over and let him have me. He grinds himself against me again, and in a fit of fear, I bite his palm. “Sonofafuckingbitch!” He shakes his hand and laughs as I scream. “You’ve got some serious fire, huh?” He grabs my throat and squeezes, silencing me.

Once that fucker ^ get done. Said cop takes off with her and proceeds to rape every hole the 14 yo FMC has all night long. It’s a long scene. The author makes dubious consent here (as if that’s possible by a child) in that the FMC begins willing so long as it will keep her out of JV.

^^^ The entire thing made me feel disgusting. Like the spanking, it’s written with this undertone I don’t appreciate one fucking bit. I get that street kids give their bodies away to survive, but this feels like black market, deep web shit that pervs use to get off, and I want nothing to do with it.

Of course, the spanking perv is there waiting for her, and makes her an offer - what’s your life worth? You willing to kill for your life.

Chapter one kicks off with what our FMC has become under the care of the pervy spanker. This guy, Benny, most likely told the officer to rape her… at the very least he was the catalyst for it happening. Now, we are going to raise him up as some hero? …

The very first lesson Benny taught me was, if I was going to master the art of deception, I needed to change my shoes. That’s how he tracked me all those years ago. My sparkly, purple Converse are what gave me away. It was the first of many lessons Bastiano Velona would teach me. The man was, in many ways, my dark knight with corrupt morals. He took me in. Clothed me, fed me, and fostered me. Put a roof over my head and educated me in more than just English and math. He trained me to be a killer. His killer.

🛑🤢🤮🚨 Nope. I came to this book for a female assassin. If she had trauma in her past … I’m fine with that as long as it’s done with respect, purpose, and to bring understanding to the character. ^ That ain’t it. This is sexulizing a young girl. This is hero worshiping of a fucking perv.

No thank you.

The warning… “dark elements”…. doesn’t cover this shit. A 14yo child graphically assaulted by two men in two separate scenes before chapter one even begins…. That needs a GRAPHIC WARNING!

Audible Review: I read some very glowing reviews on this audible book on Facebook and it convinced me to give this a try. They were right. This was a great book to have on audible. Muffy Newtown was fantastic. Jacob Morgan only had one chapter but it was enough for me to want to see what other books he has narrated. I would recommend the audible for Ghostface Killer.

Story Review: First let me start out with a warning. This is on the dark side. The beginning of the book has a detailed rape scene. Since I listened to this on Audible, it was not an easy scene to listen to. It is the darkest scene in this book and I would classify the rest as extreme violence... which is expected considering her occupation.

Now if that hasn't scared you away, this was a pretty exciting read! As you can tell, it's full of action and it had me on the edge waiting to see what would happen next. The characters are extremely flawed and I loved them. I'm also a big fan of girl power so I really liked that our heroine was the assassin. Great book and I recommend to the readers that like a little bit of dark.

It was pretty good. Lots of sex and some good action. Cover has nothing to do with the content! Neither MC looks like they do on the cover!

Was pretty predictable. At no point was I ever surprised. Including the resurrection of the ghost from the grave.

I'm not even sure why or what possessed me to start reading this book in the first place, but it was different. And by different I mean in this book the girl was "a man whore", the one with all the “issues” and I kinda liked that. Was it a good book no, not really, it had the potential to be and then it lost me about halfway through.

This was a super quick read and I definitely devoured the story. With that said, I had to dock a star because the beginning of the story is full of triggers and so unnecessary. I find that the author could tell the story without having to be so explicit about a minor being sexually abused that just didn’t sit well for me. The story itself was pretty good and I enjoyed every twist and turn.

3,8. Esse livro me pegou de jeito no início, mas achei que se perdeu um pouco no meio e no final voltou a ficar bom. Foi uma reviravolta na história. Achei muita informação para um personagem só.
Adoro bad girl e bad boy juntos.
Valeu a leitura.

Ghostface Killer is a Romantic Suspense written by M. Never. I was gifted a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review through SFab PR & Marketing .

4 Fantastic Stars!

The Review:
Gripping, thrilling and totally sexy!

I enjoyed this one a lot! This was my first read by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last. I get giddy over strong heroines and Stevie was that and more!

Ghostface Killer was a bit dark (that prologue!! wow!), sexy-steamy (those bedroom scenes! yum!) and thrilling (shoot, bang, kill! dangerous!). I know this was a stand alone, but oh how I want more Stevie and Baz!

Story/Characters...
At the young age of fourteen, Stevie James is too familiar with the corrupt side of life and the treacherous streets of New York. Starving and alone, she think’s she’s scored big after pick pocketing a suited up gentleman, only to find out he’s no gentleman at all. Both savior and villain, Bastiano Velona, aka Benny, takes Stevie under his wing and teaches her a whole new survival skill and sets her on a path to be his ultimate weapon.

Years later, Stevie’s world is altered once again and now she’s out for blood. Going on a job was supposed to be simple. Until she fell in love with her mark.

I loved Stevie! She was strong, independent and totally brought her war face when kicking some serious ass. And she was that way from the very start. The moment we meet her in the prologue, she’s thrown into a situation that would utterly destroy most people, only she came out of it hurt, but stronger and more determined to survive. Even when things started to change, when her mission started to turn in a different direction and love started to bloom, she stayed strong and true to who she was.

Baz was unexpected ... and a bit of a conundrum. Though sexy and interesting, he wasn’t nearly as alpha as I thought he would be, given who he was. When we first met him, I wasn’t too sure I was going to like him, mostly because he just came off almost too happy, if that makes sense. He wasn’t broody enough for my tastes. And he wasn’t dangerous enough given his background. Then... complete one eighty and WOW! I can’t say more than that, or it’ll be saying too much. Just know that first impressions aren’t always the final draw with the characters in this book. And I LOVED that!

It also has to be said that I loved Baz’s dirty mouth! The author gives us some incredibly hot bedroom scenes to salivate over. Whooo! *fans self*

The Wrap Up:
This story was entirely predictable, but I absolutely love it anyway! I was addicted and couldn’t put it down. The writing was great. The characters and their stories were riveting. I wanted to gobble every page and then when I was done, I wanted to go back to the first page and start it all over again. If all her other books are like this, then I can’t wait to dig into more reads by this author!
