(Spin off series from the Cloverleah Pack. Can be read as a standalone, but readers of the Cloverleah Pack series will recognize some of the secondary characters).
Madison Worthington has worked hard to get to where he is. Thrown out of his pack at a young age, he finds his home in the San Antonio pack, eventually talking himself into a job as Damien's PA. He doesn't get the respect he'd hoped for, but he holds his head high as he works behind the scenes keeping Damien's club and pack running smoothly. At night he dreams of a mate who will hold him in strong arms and love him just the way he is. Unfortunately, the Fates appear to have other plans.
Sebastian D'Eath, son of Thanatos the Angel of Death, has always known that the Fates would throw a mate in his path. He just didn't realize he had to dive into flood waters to stop the man from drowning. But no matter how cute his mate might look as a drowned rat, Sebastian has his arguments ready. He doesn't want a mate; won't take a mate and no one can make him. However, he soon finds out the Fates have other plans for him, too.
Angry words lead to Madison being captured by a wolf with a sick mind. Salvation comes from an unlikely quarter, but Madison returns to the pack with a change of heart. He has some scores to settle and Sebastian is first in the firing line. Hellhounds, dinners and a red convertible - will Sebastian ever get the man he claimed he didn't want?
This story is roughly 50,000 words, but the book includes a bonus short story about Thanatos and Cody.
Warning: Contains two sexy men, intimate situations and coarse language. Also watch out for a sexy twink with an attitude that won't stop, a demigod who seriously needs to grow up and hellhounds that appear without warning.

I'm proud of many things I've accomplished in my life, and now I can add to that list the dubious accomplishment of managing to actually make it seventy-fucking-two percent through this mess of a book.
What the fuck did I just read? And I'm not talking about missing out on all the world-building and secondary character backstories that I would have known if I'd read the series from which this book is a spin-off (and at this point you'd have to pay me actual real money to read the original series if it's anything like this, holy shit) (and even though this author should have catered for new readers and actually done a bare modicum of world-building for this series). I'm talking about the fact that both the plot and the characters are all over the fucking place. They're messier than me after 8 shots of tequila. I'm almost impressed.
The book basically opens with a random son of Poseidon deciding to turn the a club/bar/restaurant (honestly, this world is so flimsy I'm not even sure what the fuck it is) into a tumultuous ocean for the sake of saving his mate. His mate, who he hadn't even known was his mate until just a second before he created the ocean and kindly let everyone know he'd found his mate by pausing mid-conversation to literally yell "MATE!" (Capitalisation not mine - it was literally capitalised in the book. I am not joking).
As an Australian, this was very confusing to me at first because when we call someone mate here we don't mean it in a you're-my-destined-soulmate kind of way and when we yell it out like that, it's more to rage against someone for cutting into our lane while driving. So the spontaneous ocean response caught me even more off guard. And then throughout the book sometimes the mate pairings refer to each other as 'mate' and I'm just here with my Aussie accent defaulting into thinking they're referring to each other in the Australian equivalent of 'bro'. There's a reason I usually stay away from werewolf/shifter books!
But I digress. Back to the spontaneous flood...
So then it turns out Madison, one half of our fated pair for this book, was caught up in the floodwaters. Sebastian, the second mate-half, noticed him literally drowning, recognised him for what he was and then immediately jumped into the water to save him regardless of his personal confliction over finding his mate.
...
LOL I'm just fucking with you. What Sebastian actually did was stand there for a few easy mins while Madison literally drowned as he debated whether he actually wanted to save this guy's life or not, because if Madison didn't conveniently drown then he'd have to actually deal with what his existence would mean to him. Real stand up guy. (Spoiler alert - he eventually manages to stop trying to lick his own asshole long enough to save him.)
Then, after Sebastian decided that no, he doesn't want a mate because he's still in love with this guy from two-fucking-thousand years ago (I actually don't think I've read something more pathetic in my entire life), he waits around yet again after Madison is abruptly kidnapped as part of this entirely random and completely unexplained side plot that actually doesn't seem to serve any real purpose. I mean, it was the reason I bought the damn book instead of stopping at the generous sample Kindle gave me. I thought I was ready to put this trash down...but what the actual fuck. I mean, Madison literally walks out a door and wakes up in Christian Grey's Red Room ready to take Anastasia's place (I'm just fucking with you again - but a Fifty Shades crossover wouldn't surprise me at this point, that's how batshit this plot was) and the sample just ends on me. So of course I'm thinking I just have to see where this ride is going. I was thinking, okay surely this means Sebastian's going to stop trying to suck his own dick long enough to be like "Shit, man, I should probably go rescue my mate again. I mean, I don't want him for myself but I don't want him to be raped, tortured and murdered. I mean, I wouldn't want that for anyone. This is the obviously decent thing to do here." I was ready for this random-ass kidnapping to be used as a deus ex machina (actually, the entire plot can be described as a running series of deus ex machina) to force Sebastian into giving a sliver of a fuck about Madison . I was ready for this rollercoaster to start its climb back upwards.
But no, it keep spiralling down and it didn't stop. I suspect I would have kept going down as part of The Journey to the Center of the Earth if I hadn't stopped my free fall. Because all Sebastian did was drink and fight with his friends and wallow and once again casually play with the notion of leaving Madison to die because it'd be more convenient for him that way. And...AND Sebastian isn't even the one to save him!!! His fucking Dad, Thanatos, does it instead! And that, of course, raises all sorts of questions.
Why did Thanatos have to wait until Madison was kidnapped and almost raped and tortured before he decided to beam Madison to the Underworld and pimp him out as his new honorary son? Couldn't he have just done that whenever he wanted?
Why was the kidnap plot even thrown in there when ultimately Sebastian did nothing but grumble at a few people for leaving him out of the search even though he'd made literally no effort to help and had previously expressed the complete opposite of an inclination to help?
What happened to the guy who kidnapped him? Why was that all just conveniently forgotten about as though it never happened?
Shouldn't Damien, the Alpha, be more concerned that one of his pack members was kidnapping, raping, torturing and killing subs from his club?
Shouldn't they all be more concerned about that? And about what was done to Madison instead of just brushing over it in approximately 2.5 seconds?
Shouldn't Damien have seen to protecting his pack before fucking his mate?
Bonus question: Why do I sense a pattern that in every book in the original series and in this spin off series the dominant partner is a complete and utter irredeemable ass that the sub wolf/character puts up with out of the goodness of his heart?
And those are just the questions I have about the kidnap plot, which happened within the first 20% of the book. But I have other questions too, like how the fuck did Madison forgive Sebastian for all he said AND for being a prejudiced prick (the only men who are 'real men' are those who like sticking people with swords - pun intended - and bathing in dirt and using blood as moisturiser? Wow! Watch my gag reflex go!) AND for doing fuck all while he literally feared for his life in a rape dungeon? But yeah, ok, COOL BRO so happy you have you're mate even though he's one of the biggest POS I've ever had the extreme displeasure of reading about.
Any respect or sympathy I could have had for spunky little Madi went out the proverbial door the second he gave into Sebastian the second Sebastian said he actually wanted him after all. AND THAT after this whole speech about how Sebastian wanted to kill his ex-lover's mate, despite the fact it would have caused his ex-lover excruciating pain and he would have died shortly after on his own anyway because you can't live without your mate. OH OH AND after that he said that while he was sad his lover died he was also happy because it meant the mate couldn't have him either ??? Like ??? And I'm supposed to cheer when Madison gets on his knees and blows him directly following these revelations ???
And that was just the first 45%. I'm not even going to get into the last 30% I managed to get through before I finally called it quits. I feel it would be bad for my health. My next task will be figuring out how the FUCK this book got 4.28 stars (at the time of reviewing). Get Over It? More like Get The Fuck Outta Here!
At least I got a good laugh out of it. Like when I realised that Sebastian is the son of the god of death and that's why his last name is D'Eath. Get it? D-Eath. D-eath. Death. His name is literally Sebastian Death, but with an apostrophe to make it fancy and exotic and clever and shit.
No, I'm not making this up. That's literally what it is. You're welcome for saving you from this trash fire.
This book has two love stories: Madison and Sebastian, and Thanatos and Cody.
Madison and Sebastian.
Madison is a wolf shifter in the biggest wolf pack on Texas. He rose from nothing to the PA to Alpha Damien. But even with all this he still does not get the respect he deserves, and everybody takes him for granted. His self confidence is not as it should be for a young, vibrant, smart man, and it takes a beating when his mate, the one person who should love him for who he is, rejects him without knowing him on the basis of his looks. It's does not help that he gets kidnapped by a madman. But the rescue comes from unexpected source. I loved how Madison found his voice, his confidence and stood up for himself in front of Damien. I loved his strength and how his mate finally saw Madison as a man who will stand bravely at his side.
Sebastian was stuck in time. He felt like the only person worth loving is the one with brawn and muscles for those were his indicators of strength. He discounted inner strength and intellect. He, frankly speaking, needed a swift kick in the arse to shake him. He got that and more. I liked how attentive and loving he became when he finally saw that there is way more to Madison than what he first thought. I loved the humble pie he had to eat when he apologized for his treatment of Madison. He finally let go of the past and embraced new life with his mate.
Thanatos and Cody.
Thanatos didn't know that when he saved Madison from a madman, he would meet his mate. He sees everything for he is Death, so when his mate runs feeling unworthy and broken, Thanatos decides to step in to save him from the evil person he entrusted himself with. I loved that even though Thanatos was all powerful, he still wanted simple things - comfort, love, someone to come home to, a smile and gentle touch. He was so understanding and patient with Cody.
Cody feels broken and ruined. After being kidnapped and held prisoner for years, forced to do things no one ever should, he felt unworthy. When he saw a beautiful stranger in the club and scented him, he knew he could not possibly be a suitable mate for anyone. But what could have ended in a disaster turned to be the beginning of a romantic love story. Cody was exactly what Thanatos was looking for. It was very sweet between them. Thanatos finally made peace with his son Sebastian, and all was as it should be. I enjoyed these stories! Lovely read for me!
First, the start was so confusing. After chapter one, one would think the book was going to be about Madison and Nerius. Imagine my shock on getting to chapter two and figuring out it was Sebastian instead- I had read the summary months ago when I got it, so I couldn't remember the names of the main characters going in. Just saw a book on my TBR and dove in. Honestly, it was so disorienting, I had to read an online sample to ensure my copy didn't have missing chapters.
Secondly, Madison was really hard to like. Actually, them both. For different reasons. Madison was just soooo whiny that it was easy to empathize with why Sebastian felt a way about him when he saw him. He had two dozen complaints for every situation. Though, I did like the backbone he showed for a sadly too brief period of time after the kidnapping.
Sebastian was annoying because, yeeish. 2539 years later, you're still not over your ex???? I know that's merely a drop in the ocean to an immortal but like.... HAVE YOU EVEN TRIED??????? Also, I dislike the choice to make Madison an alpha of sorts to the hellhounds just so Sebastian could finally consider him a worthy mate. It wasn't explicitly narrated thus but that's the only sense that particular storyline makes. It adds nothing much to the story otherwise. Like here we have Sebastian, bemoaning the fact that his mate is a twink with no substance unlike his ex who was a great warrior of old, boo hoo. And suddenly it's like okay, damn, here. Your twink is also an alpha, surprise!!! Honestly aside from his tendency to whine, Madison was perfect as is, thank you very much. If anything, Sebastian is the one that was punching.
Thirdly, and probably worst, is that this had sooo much promise. MC 1 thinks he's too good for MC 2 but discovers that MC 2 is actually that shit and has to grovel to prove that HE'S worthy after all? Come on! This could have been epic. And Madison showed promise. There was a hint of spine at that one moment in time. But, alas. Only a hint. He forgave Sebastian soooo quickly that it almost crossed into instalove territory for me.
AND WHAT WAS WITH THE FATES MAKING IT SO THAT NEITHER'S DICK COULD WORK FOR ANYONE BUT THE OTHER????? 🤦🤦🤦🤦
Fated mates trope is already enough inevitability for me. Can we at least leave them an illusion of choice? I want people to fall in love in spite of everything. Not to be together because they QUITE LITERALLY have no other choice.
Review still stands. On the reread I can’t believe the attitude of Damien. It astounds me that one of the alphas has to be a dick and make the smaller man feel worthless, usually it’s Kane but in this one Damien took over the mantle. At least Scott is strong enough to stand up to him. I felt for Madison with Damien’s reaction but it was also great to see his. Start to believe in himself.
Good start to new series
Good start to this new series, a Spin off from the cloverleah series. It was shorter than I anticipated but I also really enjoyed the bonus book at the end. In this one we have Madison and Sebastian. As seen in the last cloverleah book , they did not get off to a great start. I didn't mind rehashing this as I'm a chronic re reader and this saved me having to re read the last book. I liked Madison in this one, he stood up for himself and it was good to know his back story. Looking forward to the next one in the series
I think this one got 2 stars because I just read a book that was even worse so I'm probably being generous. Not sure what I'm missing that this book has over a 4.0 rating? How? So I didn't read the series that this is a spinoff of - maybe that would help a little. Especially since there is NO world building in this book at all. I guess you are just supposed to know it from the previous series. I'm guessing most the characters in this series where from that series so maybe they had some depth in that series because we don't get it in this one.
This book basically starts with a son of Poseidon finding his mate and flooding the bar because apparently someone was giving his mate a hard time. He yells "MATE" and rushes across the bar to save him. However, they aren't the main characters. No the main character is another guy, Sebastian, who sees his mate also drowning but stands around hoping someone else will save him so he won't have to because he doesn't want a mate. He's still in love with a guy that died 2,000 years ago and if he did want a mate he wants a warrior not a twink. He doesn't want to deal with having Madison as a mate so he almost lets him drown but eventually when it's clear no one else is going to save him - he does. Then he basically goes on to tell him that he's not good enough for him, he doesn't want him and never will because he's in love with someone else who died (again 2,000 years ago). Then stuff happens and Madison hears Sebastian say he wouldn't want him for a mate if he was the last person on earth. He runs outside where he is kidnapped.
So I'm expecting things to pick up here and Sebastian to realize he needs to save Madison. Yeah that'd be the big no. He drinks, fights with his friends and feel bad for himself. No he isn't feeling bad about his mate who has been kidnapped and might be killed or tortured or raped. In fact with a simple call to his dad he knows he can save his mate - but he doesn't do it. Why? Well then he'd have to deal with having a mate and he might owe his dad a favor. So he does nothing. Wow great guy huh? Madison is eventually saved - by Sebastian's father. Sebastian doesn't actually even help look for his mate - he's too busy wallowing.
We never get to learn why Thantos (Sebastian's father) had to wait to save him. Madison having been held for days and don't get me started about that. The villain threatens all kinds of torture and rape but in five days does nothing but drug him. Why even have him threaten - it made no sense. Why is Damien the alpha not even concerned that someone from his pack is kidnapping, raping, torturing and killing his packmates (because another packmate was previously kidnapped and killed by this guy). He does nothing about it and doesn't even seem concerned once Madison is free. Does anyone care about what happened to Madison? Not really he's back at work the next day and everyone acts like nothing happened.
I still have hope though. So Madison is furious with Sebastian so I'm hoping Sebastian will have to work really hard and redeem himself. Yeah - no. Madison makes him work for it for like 30 seconds (okay maybe 24 hours). Sebastian then tells Madison he could have easily saved him but didn't. He also tells him that his past love met his mate and he wanted to kill that mate. Even knowing how that would effect his love. (Since you can't live without your mate - that would have killed his ex-lover). Then he says he's happy that his ex-lover died shortly after he found his mate because hey at least the mate didn't get him for very long. Holy crap - this guy is a complete loser. What a horrible person. How does Madison take this? Well he gives him a hug and a blow job because Sebastian just needs to be loved. GAG
So now I've lost all respect for both the main characters. I'm dreading where this is going next. Well they mate and Madison gets new powers (alpha of the hellhounds). So what happens the alpha who is also apparently an A+ asshole basically says he can't be trusted and might hurt someone in the pack or at his club. So even though Madison has been in his pack and running his club for 40 years that means nothing. In fact, the way all the subs are treated in this book is disgusting. I'm not sure since I didn't read the previous series but it sounds like the alpha has a stable of subs who he has sex with whenever he wants until he doesn't want them anymore. I never got the feeling that they get any choice in this. In fact, one of them was kidnapped and sexually abused and then given to this alpha. Of course the alpha didn't know so it's perfectly fine that he was made to be one of his subs.
There is one line later in the book that says that the kidnapper was taken care of. We never find out who the kidnapper was (just that apparently he is now in hell). Okay rant over.
Like most wolves, Madison has always dreamed of finding his mate. But when that mate turns out to be the immortal son of Death, who is still pining for his old lover, it seems that fate has a dark sense of humour.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I've read by Oliver, and it is clearly stated that this new series is actually an offshoot of an established series, but can be read as a standalone. I can say that is does read as a standalone-ish. It's easy enough to pick up what is happening, the pack dynamics, and the whole dom/sub culture in their club. BUT I felt that the story was much more about the group as a whole, touching on things that had happened to various characters, too briefly in most cases. It follows how the Angel of Death finds a mate; how Sebastian's best friend (the son of Poseidon) finds a second mate(?); oh, and how Madison and Sebastian cope with being mates.
I would not recommend reading this book, until you've read the other series first, because I'm guessing that establishes a level of familiarity, and caring about these relationship developments.
This book is very mate-heavy (if you haven't figured that out). Once a wolf (or demigod) spots their soulmate, they are two halves of a whole and have to be around each other, and daily shagging. I've got to say that it wasn't what I expected - wolf shifters, alphas, immortal warriors - and it's all very cuddly and doe-eyed and puppy-dogs. Ugh. It's one of my pet peeves when an author creates "alpha" characters who all turn into soppy gits.
There were some interesting and creative moments - I loved the whole hellhound storyline. And enjoyed how important running the club was for Madison.
The first half of the book was a huge disappointment. Everything is chaotic, there are random threats and for some reason the club is flooded, because of... reasons. Madison is kidnapped by the same crazy psycho guy who kidnapped and killed another wolf (I'm guessing this features in the previous series). Crazy psycho wants to abuse Madison, but just spends his time threatening and drugging him, to hide him from the pack. ((mild spoiler)) Madison is plucked out of danger by the Angel of Death, because that dude has no rules and can magic shit up. Crazy psycho guy disappears and neither HE NOR THE KIDNAPPING ARE MENTIONED EVER AGAIN. Seriously, the drama happens in the first couple of chapters, and works as the kick up the arse that Sebastian needs, to realise he wants Madison in his life. Fair enough, but then it is dropped, which I couldn't believe. Crazy psycho guy has killed one of them, kidnapped two others, and none of the wolves want revenge? Justice? To appear to be making the slightest effort at tracking him? Or adding security until he's caught?
Nope. Cuddles and clothes are more important.
Overall, the writing style didn't appeal to me, but the hellhounds get an extra star.
Personally I think this book was a major disappointment. It was readable so there’s that... but everything was just thrown about all crazy like with no effort to connect/complete the plot properly.
For starters, Sebastian was an ass and needed to eat more crow... lots more crow... and at the same time he was a ridiculous character. After all the hateful things he said he never really did, or followed through with anything. He didn’t even try... I’m used to instalove story. That’s what you usually get when you like to read shorter books. But this wasn’t even that, there was only mockery then acceptance... I didn’t really feel any love or connection... the romance was flat.
Next, we have a villain that kidnaps, beats and rapes a pervious shifter... but when our man gets abducted what does he do...?.?. He monologues..... talks about all the bad things he’s going to do... tomorrow.... but he never does... and the next thing you know BOOM Death saves our MC and then he’s already in an expensive suit and back at work... Also this kidnapper is never heard about or from again until the epilogue where he is mentioned by name and everything had been solved.... What??? What the hell happened? Raff was also abducted??
Umm no... I am assume if I read the books in the Cloverleah series I would have already known what happened to the “serial killer”. I get that this is a spin off, but there seems to be so much missing for those that have never read the other series. So the “can be read as a stand-alone” was a completely BS IMO. I understand we wouldn’t know many of the characters and their backstories, that pretty common with a spin of series that can be read by itself. But... Hello?!?! shouldn’t we still get answers to the plot that was intended for this book? Or maybe even the full backstory for its main characters... which I assume I would also find out if I read the parent series... This should have been a book in the Cloverleah series rather than the beginning of a new series in this case.
You know what my biggest issue is and it’s not bad per say... is even though I thought this book was poorly put together, Lisa’s characters are always memorable... and I am still probably going to read the next damn book even though this pissed me off...
Also... just to complete my rant... neither one of those people on the cover looks like a twink....
I am so going to enjoy this series. Madison surprised me in so many ways. I'm happy that he didn't go running, to Sebastian the idiot. Once Sebastian got his head right, I loved how he went about getting his mate. Now Cody I wasn't so sure about him at first. With him leaving the way he did, I thought for a moment that he was a partner with the crazy man. But I know better now. Thanato unlike his son wanted his mate, and went after him. I felt so bad for Cody but I'm happy he didn't fight with his mate. And is now very happy. I'm looking forward to more from this series.
I really wanted to like this but it was all over the place. I feel like some story lines didn't really get wrapped up (maybe they were in another book, but I didn't read the other series.) And Sebastian was really a douchnozzle to Madison for a long time. I don't think he redeemed himself.
"I'm one of the best bottoms around, mate and I have nerves of steel. I can do what I fucking like." Cheeks flushing as a round of applause came from the surrounding tables...
Are you fr? This was so corny I started CACKLING. Shelving as dnf for now
This book made me cry. Dear Gods, it's so... bad . Imagine every Hallmark second grade cheesy movie you very watched. This book is made of quotes from that list. The plot is frantic, one minute they met, the next the guy is kidnapped and the next he is home. This all happened in the first 20% of the book.
And don't even let me start on the club. I mean, the impression I got of werewolves in this universe is that they are either homophobes, subs or doms. No leeway of any kind, those are the categories. I get that some if not most of them suffered through a lot before coming to this pack, but honestly, they all seem to either be the stereotype of "fairy gay" or the stereotype of big alpha werewolf. It made me feel like the author went into the MM genre with the 1950's idea of what a gay man looks like and behaves. Like she doesn't understand that their sexual orientation does not limit their preferences to submissive bottom or, in the case of werewolf packs, dominant tops. There is such a thing as versatility.
Madison... three words: grow a pair! The guy literally tells you he won't have you, wouldn't mate you if you were the last man on the planet, and you take him as soon as he agrees to it. Show some self respect. The most ironic of it all is that in the end Sebastian is an advocate of Madison's, saying he deserves respect and recognition of the work he does at the club, but Sebastian himself didn't respect him when they met, and he holds a higher position at the club than Madison, despite Madison now being an Alpha and, from what I understood, Sebastian is thoroughly unsuitable for the job and doesn't actually do anything! Sebastian - what a prick! All that talk about height and bulk makes the man... You would have thought that his 6 foot something frame would have made him a man, but it seems that not even millenia thought that asshole some manners, respect, and any idea of equality and sensitivity. And what sort of name is Sebastian anyway? Doesn't sound very Death/godly being/ancient creature like. D'Eath was a nice touch if a bit on the nose.
Anyhoo, beware of the clichés. They are everywhere... When you think the drama is over, check where you're at in the book, 'cause I guarantee you, there will be more, and it will be probably worse. Everyone and their cousin find their mates (predictably in a dramatic affair) in this pack!
Taking into account what I've wrote so far, I asked myself why I kept reading. I read it all, and with something akin to fascination. The only explanation I have is that this book is like a car crash at the side of the highway. You just can't help but stare. It is a shame, the potential with this universe was there and the author made the worse she could.
I can't get over how bad this book was. With the current rating of 4.22 I am clearly missing something that would make this book okey. I suspect that it's either the whole 'Cloverleah Pack' or the fact that most of the readers that got this far in the series just enjoy this kind of books? Either way, it completely didn't work for me. The characters were extremely unlikable and the plot didn't make much sense. Second star is for the Thanatos and Cody story which was at least bearable.
Sebastian is the son of Thanatos (Greek God of Death). Madison a wolf shifter and a sub is Damien's (pack Alpha) personal assistant.
Madison has always wanted to find his mate. Never feeling wanted or respected. Unfortunately Sebastian makes it clear the two will never be mated, because his heart belongs to another who died many centuries prior. If Sebastian were to take a mate he would need to be a warrior, which he says Madison is not.
“I know you think there's a connection between us” “But I'll never take a mate. My heart belongs to someone else.” “I won't take that twink for a mate if he's the last man on earth.” --Sebastian
Madison and the Pack Alpha Mate (Scott) are kidnapped. Sebastian still wants to leave and refuses to accept his “fated mate”, but decides to stay just long enough to make sure Madison is rescued and safe.
I enjoyed reading about Madison's growth in confidence and respect for himself. It was a change to see an Alpha male reject his mate. There are a few things left unanswered and Im hoping they will be answered in the next book.
This book takes two wolves from the San Antonio pack and gives them new mates in their own spin off series from Cloverleah pack. This book starts with Madison faithful PA to Damien of the San Antonio pack finding and being rejected by his mate Sebastian. He runs off crying, Scott the Alpha Mate goes to comfort him and both are kidnapped by an evil pack member. Scott managed to escape to get help but Madison is moved and can't be rescued by the pack. He is, however, saved by Death because he is his father-in-law. Yes he is Sebastian's dad and he isn't letting his stubborn son's lack of claiming Madison to stop Death from having a relationship with him. While returning Madison to the club Death spots his own mate and that story comes later. Sebastian decides he might want to mate after all but has to grovel, bribe, and really work for it. All kinds of things happen on our way to our HEA for both couples. This is a well written, cleverly crafted and highly entertaining book.
The San Antonio pack has some interesting visitors including Sebastian Death, the son of the grim reaper. When Nereus, son of Poseidon accidentally floods the club when he spots his mate. Sebastian dives into the water to save Madison, Damien's PA. Madison is a twink in Sebastian's eyes and not worthy of his attention. Madison has worked his way up since being thrown out of his pack. He started as a sub at the club and, now as Damien's PA pretty much runs the place. Madison Immediately recognizes that Sebastian is his mate. Sebastian is not willing to accept a mate as he's carried a torch for Alexander the Great for centuries. Will he be able to get over his lost love and see that Madison is far more than he appears? A very unique fated mates story. I never imagined demigods and shifters like this.
As usually I loved it. Ms. Oliver's books are some of my favorites. I have read ever book she has written at least 4 times and I am expecting this one to stack up with the rest of them and maybe even pass them. It is well written with well developed characters. This book is a spin off from her Cloverleah Pack series. This book's timeline is parallel with On The Brink Book 12 of that series. The start of this book follows allow with that book just told from a different character's POV. I would finish On The Brink first then read this book. Some of what you read will have already been covered in the other book but it is all told from Madison and Sebastian's POV. Both books are totally worth reading. I am so looking forward to what Ms. Oliver has coming out next.
This is the first book of Lisa Oliver that I have read. And now I find myself wanting to The whole CloverLeah pack series.
I think this book shows that opposites really do go together, and never judge the strength of a person by the way they look.
I loved all of the characters even when Sebastian was a royal pain in the butt, lol. Each character was unique and it is easy to know who is talking/thinking, even when their name is not mentioned.
Lisa has a really good ability to build a unique world, that like her characters is very believable. And she feeds us the details of the world well woven into the story, rather than a info dump.
I can safely say I am a new fan, and will be reading her previous books soon :)
I have enjoyed this authors books for years. The Cloverleah Pack books were my first introduction to the Mates and the perfect matches picked for them. I love wolf pack books that don't involve Omega mpreg and don't understand why most other authors have to go in that direction. I just wish there were some included in Kindle Unlimited as it can get expensive buying all the books that average 5 bucks a pop. I would have had a great binge reading session if that were the case. But then I wouldn't get anything done until I had put down the very last one.
I love the ideas from Lisa. I keep coming back to her books. I struggle with the ease in which characters change opinions or personalities simply with the reasoning of 'mates'. I can roll with it though. The assumption of background knowledge though leads to little world building or background other than just.... out right saying "oh yeah I was chained and tortured as a kid" with no framing or... real impact.
Still, I keep coming back so I gotta say, I love the ideas she has. Perhaps if she finds the right editor or first reader to help... find the missing gaps.
I am so glad for Madison's story. It was obvious he was an over worked unpaid lonely guy. Damian really ricked me off in this book. I swear the older these guys are, the more childish and spoiled they tend to act. Thanks seems to be the most level headed one. I am so happy for Cody though I wish he could have some confirmation concerning Joel. That broke my heart. I can't wait to read the next one. Makes you wonder what's coming when you think of all the unique true mates that have happened in the various packs. Lisa Oliver is always surprising me with every new bond and each new struggle.
Both of the main characters were so annoying. If someone treated me the way sebastian treated Madison they wouldn't be in my life for long, that's for sure. On top of the completely unlikable and juvenile characters, the writing was so bad. Everyone is roaring, talking like an angsty teen instead of a supposedly thousands of years old demigod, and flying off the handle at the drop of a hat. I barely finished this one. The ONLY reason I gave it a single star is because I have to in order to leave a review, and because I did finish it instead of abandoning ship.
This was an interesting book to read... Madison has been introduced in a few books and it was a pleasure to read how he found and won his mate. Sebastian is the grumpy that we always love to see paired with a sunshiney person. While Madison isn't the stereotypical sunshine boy, he definitely had the feisty attitude needed to put Sebastian in his place. It was also good to see Damian put in his place too. Mads has been running things for Damian for so long, without the proper respect.
I agree with some reviewers saying that this world needed more explaining! yet, i don't think that would've changed my not liking these kind of stories! As much as I love mythology, I hate it when a story is a 'Gods's' dump ... there so many, who are mentionned, never introduced, and soemtimes irrelevant to the story! The Song Of Achilles is my perfect kind of mythology book! Anyone read my review and has a recommendation for a mythology book, please comment it! I am in dire need for a good book 🥲🥲
Madison has not had an easy time in life and just wants the respect he has earned. The only problem is literally everyone takes him for granted. Then he meets his mate who is determined not to claim him. What is a twink supposed to do? Be strong and tell his mate to get the eff over it, that’s what! I love Madison and his strong attitude. No one will underestimate him anymore. And Sebastian has some serious groveling and growing up to do. I also enjoyed Thanatos. This author creates characters that I just can’t stop reading about.
I have always loved Madison and this did not disappoint. He really came into his own in this one. Nice touch with him and the hellhounds. I only wish we could have seen Damian grovel when he was attempting to get Madison back. And as always Scott handled his grouchy alpha like a pro. LOL
Cody's novella was great too - hope to see more of him and Thanatos in future ones as well
Really excited for more from this spin off
