Teen Wolf (TV) - Peter Hale/Stiles Stilinski Basically what it says on the label. Hunger Games type fusion. Stiles doing way better than anyone anticipates. Peter finds him intriguing. Ruthless, devious assholes working together to ruin bad guys, as the Steter ship is meant to be. Words:54283 complete Cover by by TheBlueMenace
I felt like this was a really solid book, although it was a little light on the Peter/Stiles and a little heavy on the Stiles/OMFG-don't-die-Stiles!, depending on what you are looking for. Thus, if you're looking for heavy Peter on Stiles action or relationship building, this probably isn't the fic for you, although that isn't to say there isn't any such action or relationship building at all; the two do interact enough that you can see why they fall for each other in the end, and it isn't strange or surprising that they do.
Going into the story I was really afraid that it was going to be a Hunger Game ripoff, with the challenges mirroring the challenges of the Hunger Game, but happily that wasn't the case at all: what Stiles faced was entirely separate from the Hunger Games and original to this story, although I did feel a little frustrated with the villains for making the same mistakes over and over again (you'd think they'd smarten up, but no, but I suppose that was their arrogance getting in the way).
KouriArashi indicated that no sequel is planned, which is unfortunate, as I feel that the story would really be better if it had one; this story feels more like a beginning than a stand alone.
This was fun. The Survival Games plot and the surrounding world-building is interesting. The romance feels pretty perfunctory, but it’s there and it’s fine.
The premise: Humans and werewolves went to war, and the werewolves won. Now, most humans are kept in slave labor camps/communities. And once a year one person between the ages of 15 and 35 is chosen from each of the 200+ camps to compete in the Survival Games. The winner gets the bite for themselves and their family and gets to leave the camps to join the werewolf community. Obviously this is a dubious honor for many reasons, but in this world, Stiles’ mother has been sick for many years so he desperately wants this to save her.
Stiles doesn’t feel quite like Stiles, but it didn’t bother me and I enjoyed his alliance with Allison. Peter comes into play when he sponsors Stiles in the games, and they find common ground in their goals/plans for after the games. I would have gobbled up a sequel where they planned their rebellion, but it’s enjoyable enough as a standalone. Perfect for when you need something plot-driven and easy to get into.
This was good. There wasn't a lot of relationship building, but there was some. There was a lot going on. Stiles staying alive being the top of the list. Peter covering the political angel.
I'm interested in a follow up. There is a lot more to explore. Well done.
