I usually rate manga after I finish with the whole series but I don't think I'll be continuing this.. Turns out it's not really for me after all.
However I MUST say that the art is reeeally beautiful so if you're into shoujo manga and wondering if you should read this or not, I say go for it.

Thank you to Netgalley for the copy

*I received this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

So, the first thing you have to understand is that there is a high school girl dating her teacher. Yeah, I don't agree with it in real life, but it is a trope I liked as a kid and just haven't grow out of. I'll just call it problematic, much like that one comic I read where the woman was literally dating a bear....
Anyhow, the art is super cute. Things don't go as expected in this story and I'd like to see more about why Yua and her teacher are together. The story of course will be dramatic, but this is a variation I haven't read before and was interested the entire time. I honestly wonder what will happen with their relationship, as well, and wonder if she will instead go to someone else. This is one I probably will continue reading.

The idea on which this manga is based upon is creepy and makes me totally uncomfortable. But that is just me.

L'idea di base di questo manga non mi fa sentire a mio agio e questa comunque é solo la mia opinione.

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

BLOG POST
------------------------------------

The premise of this manga is probably by far the weirdest plot of any manga I have ever read. Are you ready for it? A young teenage girl marries her high school teacher in secret and then she finds out the most popular kid in school is his son from a previous marriage. Oh, and the manga is definitely hinting at a future relationship between this teenage girl and her step son! What. Even?!

I do have to admit that I did get sucked into the story for just a tiny while. It was interesting, but the plot is a tiny bit messed up. And as much as I love mangas, I'm starting to get really sick and tired of how anti-sex characters in mangas are. Weird relationship aside, unless someone has a legitimate reason for not wanting to be intimate with someone (e.g. being asexual), not wanting to be romantic with your own husband is not normal!

The artwork of the manga is gorgeous though, which is what the two stars are mainly for to be honest. And all in all, the chapters of this manga are totally fine and pretty entertaining. But I can't really get over the fact that there seems to be an affair brewing between Yua and her step-son. No, thank you.

Yua was a really great main character though. I really loved just how confident she was, but also that she seemed to be really sweet, kind and soft on the inside. I also loved how she stood up for her best friend and didn't let anyone treat her badly.

All in all, ignoring the weird relationships going on, this manga was thoroughly enjoyable and it definitely has a good entertainment factor. The story was actually pretty solid and I found myself genuinely concerned for Yua during the manga. I'm not even that opposed to a teacher-student relationship, if done respectfully and treated well. However, I do just think it's weird that Yua and Sabaru seem to be falling for one another. Forbidden love? Yes, I'm here for it! Cheating on your husband with his son? No thank you.

Yua is a high school student who is secretly dating her teacher. After the death of her parents, she is taken in by her grandma, but her grandma gets sick, leaving Yua all alone. Her Sensei opts to marry her so that she has a place to stay, but one of her classmates is his son from a previous marriage! Awkward…

From my understanding, this book was originally published by Tokyopop, but after Tokyopop went out, another publisher picked up the series. The art is absolutely gorgeous. While there are some generic aspects to the story (taboo student and teacher relationship), it adds a new and exponentially interesting dynamic to it with having to keep their marriage a secret until Yua graduates, not to mention she now legally has a son the same age as her! This romantic drama has twists and turns around every corner. I have this feeling that Sensei’s son, Subaru, might just find some romantic feelings for his new mom as well. Uh-oh! What a fantastic first volume, and I am eager to read the coming volumes! (Received from NetGalley for an honest review).

Putting some fun in dysfunctional family.

Okay I know the student falling in love with her cool older teacher is a thing in Japan (even though he obviously doesn't look as old as he really is) but when 17 year old protagonist Yua looses the last of her living relatives it is this very relationship that creates a gateway to a strange but interesting triangle of mixed up feelings as she discovers the most popular boy in the school is actually the son of her secret husband. A bit emotionally stunted or perhaps just immature Yua becomes a gateway of healing and possibly heartbreak considering the big climax at the end. Are you going to guess what it is and how it comes to be? Reading it might just be more fun. :)

All that aside each character has their own unique quirks such as Yua has difficulties with cats, the teacher has a tendency to adopt creatures with no where to go (which honestly does bump up the creepy factor a bit considering he was dating her after Yua's parents passed away), and his son seems to be on the lacking side when it comes to empathy and dealing with people in general.

I CANNOT get behind a manga where the premise is a JUNIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL marrying her teacher who has a son HER AGE.

I found The Lion and the Bride to be rather mediocre. It’s good but not great. Honestly I’ve read better manga. I think I’ll still read the rest though because I’d like to know what happens next.

There's a reason why I try to avoid shoujo and The Lion and the Bride kind of proves why I should do that in the future too. The manga is quite basic and plays so many cliches it's not even funny. Yua is in a relationship with her much older teacher and when she loses the last of her family, her Sensei decides to marry her (!). The surprise is that Sensei has a cocky son that's in Yua's class and of course we'll have a love triangle. The story is very Japanese as Yua's only dream is to become a good wife and whatnot. The only thing that's quite different is the marriage, although it makes no sense. The whole thing is so abrupt and weird that it just baffles. The series consists of three parts, which actually surprises me. I just find the whole "should I pick the father or the son" situation creepy and because of the short length, this will hurry the plot. Yua is still a kid herself.

The cover looks better than the art. The art is slightly crude and the panels are mostly empty and feel like lacking. Sakurano's manga is thus very basic and offers nothing new and the situation could've been juicy, really. Now is just off-putting that the teacher is an old pervert, since he looks young, but even when he had his son at a young age, he's still at least over thirty or almost forty. I don't know if I even want to know what happens, since this is creepy.

i got my copy from netgalley
I've never hated a shoujo manga protag so much before. I get that we are supposed to be  sympathetic towards her and whatnot but she is just outright trash. I get that she deals with grief but she has an extremely ungrateful attitude towards her new husbands son and the CAT. how the hell can someone hate a cat? the teachers son is really sharp and sees that the guy does have empathy and pities the lonely weaker things like a thrown away kitty and now the orphan girl , making him as of now my favored character of this manga. the age difference is really bothering me though. i just cant get through it. and the mangaka draws the husband who is at the bare minimum 36 really like a top 15 years old high school student. overall the entire manga left me with an icky feeling really irritated me the cliffhanger conclusion and made me angry that CLEARLY in the matter of like 6 month the stone cold "ill move out as soon as possible " son became a love interest to the "wife."
my rating is the following -1 star for the sloppy artwork , -1 for shit mc and -1 for that "i would so punch you in the face" conclusion . 2/5 stars.

Yua is dating her high school teacher, and when her grandmother dies, she has nowhere to go, so she marries her teacher, but he has a secret past that will threaten their married bliss.

This manga is just so ridiculously silly that I ended up loving it! I mean, the whole situation of marrying a teacher is already fraught with impossible scenarios, and this manga takes it to a whole new level of hilarious drama.

I loved the gorgeous art style, and simple school setting. The characters are very dramatic and moody, as they sulk and sneak and whisper secrets. Emotions are flying high on every page, and Yua is in tears in every chapter.

I enjoyed reading it so much, and I can't wait to grab the next volumes!

First of all this is a very well written manga. And I just found out it already has published up to Vol. 10.
The plot is sort of weird. I mean Yua is a very young girl and why would she want to marry so early. Guaranteed that she doesn't have any relative so she might want to have a family of her own. But come to think of it it's a pretty common theme in mangas. So ya I'm not surprised but I'm not happy either.
Anyway it has great graphics.
Plot is controversial but well explored.
There is always a presence of an emo kid in mangas. This manga is no exception to that. There is this emo kid called Subaru.
The touch of humour is refreshing.
A good attempt of slice of life manga.

There is so much to say about how amazing volume one of this manga was. The art was fantastic, for starters, and the wordbubbles was easy to understand and flowed well. I loved the characters and the plot! It built and headed in a direction I didn’t think it would. Going on ahead, I would like to see Yua’s relationship with Sensei developed more, however. Other than that, I think the characters have a powerful connection and one wrong move will lead to a deadly chain reaction (as with cliffhanger). When the cliffhanger at the very end came and I was completely blown away and wanted more. I wish I could buy the next volume to find out what happens.

Thank you Netgalley and Publishers for allowing me to read an ARC of this manga.

*I received a copy of this book from Akita Publishing through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed the pacing and scenes of this manga, but did find it a tad predictable. Perhaps that is just because I'm familiar with the common tropes used, but I pretty much knew the situations that were going to occur and wasn't really surprised by the end of the first volume. Still I flew threw this volume and would most likely pick up more to continue the story and see what happens.

The art style and writing was great, easy to understand and with just enough pop to help the reader understand setting and situation. Again, it was fast paced with some well placed humor, which made it an enjoyable read in the end.

Loved the Lion and the Bride manga!!
The artwork was great and flowed well. Before reading it, I was iffy about it, the thought of a student teacher relationship didnt sit well with me. BUT, they did a good job with it.
Yua is a highschool girl whos grandmother dies. Shes been secretly dating her teacher and when he find out, e asks her to marry him. She accepts thinking all will be great, but its not. Sensei has a secret and that secret is that he has a son, who also happens to be Yua classmate! The plot thickens when it develops into a love triangle!
Looking forward to reading the other installments.

ARC via Netgalley. The art is very competent but the premise of this manga is so weird that I can't get into it at all. A high school girl is dating her (very young-looking) teacher, and after her last surviving family member dies he abruptly proposes marriage... but doesn't manage to tell her until after the wedding that he lives with his son from his previous marriage, who is her age and sits next to her in class. The prerequisite love triangle ensues. Unless you're actually looking for the teacher-student thing, just read Marmalade Boy instead.

Girl who is barely 18 and still in high school has secret relationships with her teacher who she then marries, but it’s still a secret. After the marriage she finds out he has son who is her classmate with whom she doesn’t get along with. Seems her and her husband have yet to do anything physically (a relief I guess?) after almost getting caught at school with the teacher/husband, her and son start a fake dating at school for show. But son actually has crush on her? Begin love triangle.
Messy, inappropriate, awkward 😬
It’s short and free on KU so probably go ahead and read the rest anyway

2020 Read #149

YIKES. DOUBLE YIKES. This series is so, so problematic. I can’t believe the teacher marries his student AND has her live with him and his teenage son. It is just so gross that he must be in his thirties to have a seventeen-year-old son and yet he preys on a student his son’s own age. And it’s played off as normal as can be even though it’s essentially predatory and manipulative. EGADS.

Mixed feelings

Well, I actually don't know what to think about this story. We have the trope of the teacher-student relationship with a hidden marriage. Then we have the classmate step-son dilemma, interacting all the time with the female lead.

I wonder what road this story is going to take. I just know that someone is going to end up hurt if feelings aren't defined well soon.

After reading other reviews I thought I wouldn't like it, but shockingly enough I definitely enjoyed it. I thought the romance was cute, though strange. The father and son aspect mixed with the teacher and student romance was funny. There were definitely awkward points that made me question the story itself, but as I finished it I enjoyed it. Definitely would finish up reading this manga series.
