Steph has loved writing since middle school, when a short story she wrote won a second place award. Her love of writing really grew in high school during a creative writing class. It has always been her dream to write a novel, and after reading "It Ends With Us," by Colleen Hoover, she knew it was time. That book gave her the courage and the drive she needed to begin writing regularly.
When she isn't writing, she reads as many romance novels as she can, especially enjoying the stories starring alpha males and with thriller and suspense aspects.
She lives in Indiana with her husband and two young boys.

My Safe Place is a strong debut with plenty of interesting twists and turns. Steph's writing is amazing and I fell in love with this story straight away.
I'll definetly read future stories by this author.

I have been so excited to read this book and I’m thrilled to say that it was SO worth the Wait!
I was intrigued from the first chapter all the way to the end. The writing was crisp and flowed easily and I adored the storyline. Lake is the kind of woman that I could easily picture myself being friends with, and Cal was the absolute perfect combo of alpha and sweet - which is a total weakness for me.
I enjoyed all of the side characters as well which is always a huge bonus!

I think the romance aspect was wonderful and I appreciated the added suspense and unfolding of events. This is a fabulous debut and I can’t wait to read more from this author!

I enjoyed this debut novel so much! The chemistry between these two are off the charts. I love the whole premise. The event planner and the sexy furniture maker. Yum! Cal is delicious. It is sexy, sweet and sometimes angsty. I loved it and will continue to read more by this author!

Wow! For a debut novel Steph Poe shows her talent. This story had me so into Lake’s mind, I could understand every emotion and thought she had throughout her story. When your past ruins your ability to trust how do you move on when it seems your past can’t stay away from your present. Poe does a terrific job in fleshing out this character while providing plenty of heat in the process.

Cal Ryker, a carpenter, appears as an Alpha male, but there is more to his story and his own past, which quickly cracks that alpha personality, could very well be the undoing of Lake and Cal. Twist upon twist is revealed to the point you’ll find yourself relating to Lake’s mindset, and asking the same questions, I found myself racing through to find more about Cal.

Steph Poe throws in a bit of suspense and to my chagrin I found myself asking, “ What now?!” She kept me off kilter but in need of finding out more. This is a great read.

My Safe Place is hardly what I expected from a debut novel. The writing is clean and polished. Steph Poe passed my initial test with flying colors. Usually, by five chapters, I decide if I care enough about the characters to want to see what happens to them. She had me caring by chapter two. I wanted to watch Lake and Cal's story unfold. There is an instalove which can be tricky to sell sometimes. I think Steph sold it because she also kept me guessing with Lake's POV who wanted to trust, but there was an obvious struggle given her past. I like how Cal at first was almost too good to be true until some character flaws were brought to the forefront. Those truths made him feel real to me. I would definitely pick up another Steph Poe book in the future.

Arc provided by author for honest review. Honestly for this author first debut I was really impressed. This author didn't shy away she went deep and somewhat dark which I admire her for. Great job doll. I can't wait to see what else you have in store for us. I do have few things to say though. I can understand why lake blamed herself for what happened. She did ask to be put in certain situation. But I don't care what sisuation I women asks for once we stop or were not sure we want to do this. The man should just respect requests. And back off. It's our body so our choice right?

Indie Authors Debut novel.
This is a story about love, lies and second guessing yourself after having it ripped from you by someone you trusted. It's a journey of finding new love, but second guessing that love and its true intentions. It's a story about finding that path to trusting yourself again to be able to trust another.
I love the push and pull between this couple. The true intentions on his side and her unwillingness to give full freedom to trusting again makes for a nice back and forth that we all love. Good Job to this author on her debut!

What an amazing debut from Steph! Right from the open, I was drawn in to the story and I loved Lake right away! There was so much texture to the characters, so much realism that it was hard not to like them all! I loved Cal but just like Lake it took me a moment to want to trust him and then once I did boom! Floor dropped out from underneath me. But it came together just right in the end and I couldn't be happier with how Steph wrapped it up! Brava lady!

Just when you think is one of those sweet boy meets girls romances, BAM, cue the twisty-plot-twists. I didn't see that coming and I loved it. How the bad parts of Lake's life collide with her present and we see how that affects not only her well being but the budding relationship she has with the gorgeous Cal. Unf Cal. This is a story of trust, finding love and learning to fix the broken pieces within.

Quote: "I know you're affected by me. I've felt it from the moment I walked through the door and you flashed those beautiful blue eyes at me." I am mesmerized by those words. Of course I feel it. I don't remember ever having this sort of reaction to a man, especially a stranger I just met.

This is a wonderful debut novel from indie author Steph Poe and I can't wait to see what she has next.

Terrific debut from Poe. Lake is an ambitious and successful woman with a bit of a haunted past. Cal is the charming furniture maker who catches her off-guard. A sweet and sexy story with a little bit of angst, a few laughs, a smidgen of suspense, and all the feels. Definitely recommended.

Loved everything about this book!!!! Lake is a strong woman even if sometimes she doesn't realize it and her relationship with Cal is not always easy but they are great together. Steph does a great job at bringing these 2 to life...definitely recommend this one!
