Viktor Prinz
When an IED hit my unit, it set off a chain of events that transformed me. Gone is the easygoing and charming man whom everyone flocked to. I’m no longer the whole man I used to be, and I’ve accepted this darker side.

Isabel Marchant
In my twelve years as a physical therapist, I’ve never been tempted to cross the line with a patient. That is, not until Viktor Prinz answers the door in his nearly-naked state. Seeing past the grief, I find the first man to make me want more.

Can Viktor find the strength to accept the cards he’s been dealt? Or will he run this beauty who stands up to him out of his life, never to return again?

Short but sincere read.
Safe.
I struggled a bit with the hero, he was extremely rude at the beginning, but because of his loss and life situation I could almost forgive him.

Very cool heroine. Ok, she was immediately attracted to him; but she didn't turn into hormonal mess, but could stand up for herself.

I really enjoyed this modern day telling of Beauty and the Beast. Viktor is so set on living his life in misery and solitude and I loved how Belle was able to bring him out of his broody mood and be the light he needed. This novella was well written and a very enjoyable read! I’ve been a fan of AJ Renee since the beginning and her writing just keeps getting better and better!

A man who's gone through hell. He's lost his leg in the military then his Mother dies and he feels like he should be in the casket not her. He doesn't feel whole any more heck he doesn't even feel like a man anymore that is until an angel in the form of a physical therapist shows up at his door one morning. She works with him and makes him stronger so that he can wear a prosthetic leg and she does it. She weaves a spell around his heart in the process, but is that enough? Can their love overcome all of the terrible things he's been through and still work? This book was different and I enjoyed reading it. The author did a very good job telling the story and having it unfold

Modern day version of the beloved fairytale, Beauty and the Beast!
Isabelle aka Belle finds herself entranced by her patient Viktor aka the beast. As his physical therapist who is always commanding and demanding more from him, he begins referring to her as the beast master. It's commendable how they both try to deny the pull they both feel for one another due to their patient / physical therapist relationship. It just wouldn't be right.. right?! As time passes, their undeniable chemistry builds and their situations change. So then you ask, will they get their HEA as any good fairytale should? The answer is simple.. Yes. And it's complete with a symbolic rose that is so fitting for the beauty and the beast storyline.

This story about an injured vet and the physical therapist who helps him to recover not only physically but also emotionally, sounded interesting. Also, the Beauty and Beast fairytale is one of my favorites. So, I was looking forward to reading this book. I was disappointed.

What I liked: The Beauty and Beast theme-it was a loose reference. Viktor shortening Isabel’s name to Belle and his grumpiness/rudeness (so his Beast like personality) was the extent of it. I enjoyed the few times where they had a real conversation (i.e. discussion of rose tattoo); showed an emotional connection. I wish there had been more of these. What I did not like: The insta-love. I know this is a romance, still.… However; at least it was acknowledged in the story that they hardly knew each other. Since this is a novella, time is limited. However, about ninety-five percent was spent on either describing the main characters anatomies, lusting after each other and/or actually having sex. This took up most chapters except for the epilogue-which I liked. I would have liked to have learned more about Vik experiences right after the accident or his adjustment to wearing the prosthetic, or Belle’s rocky relationship with her siblings-all reference but not elaborated on.

Overall, a story that had potential but fell flat for me. Contains crude language and sexual situations.

Beauty Unmasked by A.J. Renee
I purchased this book from Free off Amazon May 2020.
Oh AJ!! I love your books!! I am so glad I saw this book and grabbed it the other day when it was a freebie off Amazon. This is a sweet novella retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I loved the twist of the story that Belle was actually the beast because she was pushing the “Prince” Viktor to get better. But in actuality Vik was the beast due to his grumpy disposition.
The story begins and we see a uber crabby Vik not wanting anyone around. He has lost his leg and his momma. Seems he is going to hide away then deal with the pitying stares of people he knows. His aunt informs him she has hired a PT to come and help him with his new prosthetic. He is none to thrilled and the way he answered the door pretty much sets the tone for Belle and Vik. LOL
The chemistry between Vik and Belle is off the charts immediately. They are both drawn to the firm yet caring souls of the other. She is like DUDE HE IS A CLIENT. He is saying NO HOT CHICK WOULD WANT THIS MESS!! We see the fun flirty banter and the respect they both form for the other.
When there is a miscommunication and then angry word, both are left wounded. When he see Vik take that step forward in hopes of more with Belle, I was so excited.
The story is a sweet novella, but I will say it wasn’t an insta-love because there was a lot of banter and chemistry to fill the story. However, seeing them both fall head over heals for the other when they finally confide their true feelings was a sweet read. The epilogue made ma laugh like all AJ’s books do!!

“Where there once was despair and darkness, there is now hope and light.”

Viktor Prinz has lost more than just his leg in an IED accident. He’s lost hope…hope to ever be loved. Feeling broken, lost and angry at life for the cards he’s been dealt, he’s shunned anyone who’s tried to help him. That is until Isabel Marchant knocks on his door, and he’s greeted by the face of an angel. Isabel Merchant is a physical therapist that is assigned to help Viktor in his recovery. Never one to mix business with pleasure, Isabel nonetheless is drawn to this beast of a man. Isabel sees so much more than the shell Viktor can’t see past…she sees the man within…a man that has captured her heart if only she can get him to see he is worthy of her love.

Beauty Unmasked is a heartfelt story with a twist on the Beauty and the Beast fable. Really enjoyed this novella and highly recommend!

Well Done!!!!

This was my first AJ Renee book and won’t be my last. Her writing was amazing. I was hooked from the first page. The characters and the story grabbed me and wouldn’t let go.

This was story was based on my favorite fairytale Beauty and the Beast. Viktor Prinz came back from his tour of duty a changed man. Not only did he lose his leg but also his mother. When he is ready to just give up in comes Isabel. A strong willed physical therapist named Isabel. Little does she know that she will not only help him become a stronger man physically but also mentally. She will have the touch to tame the beast.

This story was well told from beginning to end. Their relationship was developed at a realistic pace. That along with the character development is what made me love this story so much. It was a quick read that had me laughing, sighing and swooning.

Get ready for this is a highly emotional book . I suggest you get lots and lots of tissues-I sobbed like a baby.

Victor's unit was hit with an IED while serving our country . Now the downward spiral started. Loosing his leg. Deep depression. His mother passing. Deeper depression. Then the darker Viktor appeared. Could you blame him?

During this whole dark period there is a light amongst the darkness-Isabel, physical therapist. She is sent to help him out and deal with the prosthesis. Maybe she can also help him with this darkness that has enveloped him?

Really emotionally charged book that is highly recommended.

A Total Fairytale

I love a good Beauty and the Beast story and Beauty Unmasked is no exception. This story was short, sweet, & exactly what I needed.

Viktor is a beast of a man who is dealing with the emotional and physical losses that have plagued him lately. Isabel is a strong, feisty, and beautiful physical therapist who gets more than she bargained for when assigned to help rehabilitate Viktor. Though the story is short, it flows well and the relationship between the two main characters is authentic and swoonworthy.

Great short story

This was a great short story. I worry about short stories, sometimes it feels like you don't get enough. Not the case with this one. AJ Renee packs it all in, in a superb way.

A quick read with an epilogue about a broken man and a strong woman. I loved how Viktor called her Beast Master! Belle was no shrinking violet and really struggled with crossing the line. A great spin on Beauty & The Beast. This was a first time read for me by this author and I enjoyed the writing style.

Tough and sweet. Soft and firm. Heaven and hell. Beautiful modern day retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Viktor is his own worst enemy and drowning in self loathing after he has been dealt a really crappy hand at life. Isabelle is brought into his life as a physical therapist to help him be strong enough to take on a prosthetic leg. Right from jump he is incredibly mean to her but you immediately feel where he is coming from. It pulls at your heartstrings. Belle comes in strong as can be and does not show him any pity, and this is right where you will fall in love with her. They are both attracted to each other at the very beginning and the angst continually builds throughout this story. I worry about short stories because sometimes I feel there isn’t enough of the actual story but this author took this story and packed everything into it beautifully! The characters are relatable. The situation is heart wrenching. The feelings are strong and full of intensity. And in the end with the HEA….it is all summed up with the symbolic rose from the original story. This is the first book that I have read from AJ Renee but won’t be the last. Beautiful!

Short anf Flimsy

Hard to write a sensible review of a nonsensical book. The main characters, an amputee male veteran and a female physical therapist, meet when she cones to his home to work on/with him.
With absolutely no rationale, not even a hint of what physical traits the characters possess to account for it, they are immediately drawn to one other despite the ethical impropriety. After some perfunctory sex scenes in which the man's disability plays absolutely no role and doesn't even merit passing mention, there are declarations of love, the therapist moves in, and then we learn she is pregnant and the two characters decide to get married almost at once.

The whole story goes by so fast and with so little character development that I could almost swear it was written on the back of a business envelop
during a longish morning commute. The writing, while at least adhering to standard English grammar and syntax, is trite and uninspiring. It never rises to a level of getting this reader to care about the characters or their story.

I honestly don't know who would be interested in this nonsense, even if it costs a mere $2.99.

A sexy, modern take on the classic Beauty and the Beast story. The author very cleverly alluded to the fairy tale, without being too obvious. The characters were well developed and I really enjoyed the dialogues between them. It was a great story and I couldn’t put it down.

This is a modern twist on this story. It was riveting and fantastically done. Viktor is the modern beast of a man who wants nothing more to be left alone in his hole of a house a shell of himself. He fights a battle that he realizes he will need his Belle to win. Isabel is feisty, strong, determined, and floored by her feelings for Viktor. This story was beautifully told. I cannot say enough about it. While I would love more it was perfect how all the characters from the fairy tale played in to the modern-day story. It's a HEA that is perfect for this short novella. You didn't feel like it was rushed. This story was a 5 for me. I want more!

I've never known anyone personally dealing with the aftermath of lost limbs so while this is a fictional story, it made me emphathize with the hurt & devastation they go through.

Viktor has not only lost his leg but his mother as well. Not wanting help, Isabel is commissioned to go help Viktor get ready for his prostheses. Neither knew exactly what was waiting for them on this journey but a wonderful story is laid out for us to enjoy!!!

Highly recommend this book!!!

This was my first book from this author and I'm a fan! I love how she took a tale as old as time and twisted it into a steamy story, very creatively incorporating some of the great points in Beauty and the Beast too. Wonderful characters, great story, steamy romantic (and quick) read. Loved it! My only complaint is I'd love to spend more time with these characters. Even in a short read the author made me fall in love with this couple, wanting to know more about each of them.

My heart was touched by this book. The struggles of the wounded warrior, the strength and determination to get better, loss of life and limb are true facts that many military families face. Finding true love during all this heartache is indeed a miracle.
