Brandon Brown is the unlikeliest Santa ever to don a red velvet suit.

His abs are more cheese grater than bowl full of jelly, and deploying to Syria is the closest he’s come to the North Pole. But family drama sends the jaded Marine home for the holidays, and lands him an unexpected gig as a part-time Santa.

Jade King is hustling to get Jingle Bell Reindeer Ranch off the ground, and she’s not thrilled her sister hired a Santa with sex-appeal. The last thing Jade wants is a beefcake circus, and guys like Brandon bring sleigh-loads of trouble. But Studmuffin Santa proves more popular than anyone dreamed, drawing hordes of happy kids, lusty moms, and a mystery foe hell-bent on wrecking it all.

The threat has Brandon playing protector for the reindeer and their sexy keeper, which is risky for a guy who’s sworn off happy endings and the whole Christmas mess. But as Jade and Brandon bond over Santa suit malfunctions and risqué Christmas cookies, they find they have more in common than a craving for gingerbread. Can they find a way to mesh their wish lists, or will ghosts of Christmas past bring things crashing down like a fat man in a cast iron sleigh?

Studmuffin Santa is book #.05 in the Ponderosa Resort Romantic Comedies series by Tawna Fenske. I’ve been stalking this series for awhile now. I mean, just look at this cover. I thought it would be a fun, light hearted read. While it was fun, it was so much more. The characters were so easy to love, both with pasts that haunted them. And there was the bit of suspense added in as well. There was actually quite a lot in this little book, and I loved it.

reindeer

Jade King and her sister Amber are trying to get their new business, Jingle Bell Reindeer Ranch, off the ground. Jade is a veterinarian and takes care of the reindeer while her sister is mostly dealing with the business side of things. They needed a santa for their Christmas season and Jade’s sister didn’t hire an older man with a beard and big belly. No, she hired a sexy man Jade remembers from high school, the football quarterback, the object of her teenage fantasies.

sexy male santa

Brandon Brown has spent the last thirteen years in the marines. But the failing health of his father has brought him home. It was time, though. Christmas does not hold good memories for Brandon. But when Amber tells him that little things have been going wrong on the ranch and that she would like him to both be their santa but also to try to figure out what is going on, he accepts the job. A santa/security guard job is perfect while he figures out what is next for him.

The first time Brandon saw Jade, he was taken in by her. Her eyes drew him in unlike anything he’d ever experienced before. He doesn’t remember her from high school at all but is anxious to get to know her now. Jade does remember Brandon. She was bullied in high school and still carries the scars from it. But she’s a different woman now. She had such a crush on the high school version of Brandon but this is a different man. The more she gets to know him, the more she wants him. But, so does every other female within a hundred mile radius. He does look good in that santa suit!

Grinch's big heart

While these two get to know each other, things continue to go wrong on the ranch. And then something happens that makes their past collide with the present. We also get to meet Brandon’s cousins who own the Ponderosa Resort. I’m already in love with this family.

This was fun, sexy, sweet and just wonderful. I couldn’t stop turning the pages. This is only my second book by Tawna Fenske which I need to quickly rectify. I am definitely going to continue this series. The next book is Brandon’s cousin, Sean and Jade’s sister, Amber’s story in Chef Sugarlips. I can’t wait to read it.

Est page Count ~ 188 (13 chapters +e)
Audio length ~ 4 hours 46 minutes
Narrators ~ Nelson Hobbs, Teri Schnaubelt
POV ~ dual 1st
Featuring ~ small town, military man, veterinarian farmer, minimal steamage

I'm sad this is my last Christmas themed book of the year, but happy I can check another one off the kindle that's been there since December 2021. And I'm happy that I loved it so much!

Jade & Brandon
Jade and sister, Amber, own Jingle Bell Reindeer Ranch. How adorable is that? It's a fairly new business that they're trying to get up and running, so they hire Brandon as their Santa. Jade remembers Brandon from high school quite well, but does he remember her and the relentless bullying she went through 13 years ago? Sometimes that stuff is hard to forget.

Brandon is not a big fan of Christmas due to something heartbreaking that happened years ago. He is not the same person he was in high school, I mean who is really? I'm not saying he was awful back then, but now he's so sweet and book boyfriend material for sure. The scenes with his father were really sweet and heartbreaking.

Their chemistry was great. I actually expected a lot more action based on the cover, but there wasn't that much steamage and that was totally fine for them. It was a bit quick on the feelings though.

There was a little mystery to solve, some funny moments and some hard hitting ones to round out this delightful Christmas season read. Adding some reindeer trivia was a nice touch. Their Christmas gifts to each other were just perfect. Definitely recommend.

Narration notes:
I did not listen to this one, but am just giving the info above for reference.

This was a cute novella I picked up as a freebie. It’s set on a reindeer rescue farm, totally a Christmas setting I haven’t seen yet! I loved the way reindeer-ranching life is made so Christmas-y and adorable! The romance is a cute set-up… guy and girl who knew each other in high school meet years later… when he’s hired to be the Santa Claus at the reindeer farm. The chemistry between the main characters works, and I liked how the backstories played in. There may be someone trying to hurt the ranch, and can these two really come to trust each other? The cute dialogue and hilarious reindeer scenes make this a fun short read.

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.

This is short. And not as over-the-top sex-centric as the cover suggests. It's a cute holiday romance with a straight emotional through-line and weird mystery that only barely works and I ended up liking it more than I expected. I liked Jade right off and the dynamic with her sister and their reindeer ranch was very engaging. Brandon coming in to play Security Santa was a fun way for them to get to know one another and it doesn't hurt that he's exactly my type. Ex-military hot-shot looking to settle down in a home, learning that he already knows what love is and just hadn't given it the right label? Yes please!

The length is almost exactly right for the story being told. They fall for each other fast, but I bought it and am beyond grateful that Fenske chose not to throw in a bunch of complications just to draw things out. She even had an opportunity to do so but I'm really glad that the characters chose to talk things out and short-circuit the typical romance-story madness. The mystery is weak-sauce, but holds together well-enough to be going on with. And I don't even mind that it was one of the reindeer who caught the culprit in the end.

So I'm going with four stars for the entertainment and that it let me know not to expect more than was delivered.

A note about Steamy: There are two explicit sex scenes, but Fenske keeps them short enough that it's only the middle of my steam tolerance despite that being kind of high for so short a story.

First of all: the cover is not the right one! The characters were too sweet and good and sensible! So no! The cover doesn’t do justice to this story.
I loved this short story! It was so beautiful! Jade and Brandon were so perfect for each other. I’m so glad I decided to download this book from Amazon when it was free! Such a good decision. It was totally worth it. 👍

3 reindeer stars!

This was a quick, cute, funny, Christmas read.

I really love Tawna Fenske's sense of humour. Lines like this had me snickering and giggling through most of the story.

“That’s what they make fake beards for,” Amber says. “And strap-on bellies. I already ordered one for him.” I close my eyes and count to ten, but only make it to four. “Please tell me you read the product description instead of googling ‘Santa strap-on.’”

I really liked both MCs. Jade is a veterinarian and reindeer farmer. To entice the locals to visit their Christmas-themed farm, her sister decides to hire Brandon, local hottie and secret crush of Jade's back in highschool, as their Santa Claus.

A fun Christmas read if you're in the mood for something easy and fun, with a bit of suspense thrown in.

Cute, with a bit of a mystery in it. Once the Big Bad is revealed, you end up wanting to punch them yourself. What a deluded idiot!

The romance was cute and I want to see Amber’s HEA next.

3, cute and has reindeer, stars.

The cover and title alone make this book intriguing. It was a quick read, with minimal drama. Jade King is a farmer. Not the regular kind. She "farms" reindeer (and I learnt quite a few things about reindeer) and obviously the Christmas season gets busy for her because she showcases her reindeer. Her sister helps with the marketing and hires the local town hero, Brandon Brown. He has recently returned home for family responsibilities and signs up to play Santa on Jade's farm. They share an instant attraction but Jade has a slew of problems from high school that make her weary and scared. Overshadowing their growing attraction is something sinister at play on the farm.

All in all it was a good book, with interesting characters and enough enticement to read Amber and Sean's story.

Studmuffin Santa is the first delightful book in the Ponderosa Resort Romantic Comedies series.

I fell in love with Tawna's Rom Com's after reading Assassin in Love series, Killer Instincts. It has the right mix of humour, angst, trouble, heartache, insecurities, haunted pasts, and longing. I laughed and sighed my way through the book as our couples come together with hope in their hearts.

This delightful book has big tough men brought to their knees by sassy women. But there are moments of tension and suspense to give the story another layer.

I can't wait to read more.

Cute, fun story with an interesting premise and characters. Well-written and engaging; read it in one day. Knocked a star off for a couple of story choices that were too convenient, but I'd definitely read more from this author.

A couple of sex scenes you can skim if that's not your thing (I mostly read (and write) sweet romance, so it's not my thing, lol).

Brandon and Jade rediscover each other after a humiliating high school experience. Will the bad memories derail their future or is a second chance the perfect holiday gift?

‘Tis the season for cheesy holiday rom-coms.

Studmuffin Santa was a cute and easy Christmas novella. I loved the setting of a reindeer rescue ranch and appreciated the ongoing banter and humorous nature between characters.

Jade and Brandon’s relationship was sweet, but I think my favorite relationships throughout the book were between the various family members. The love was definitely evident there.

Although it felt a little too rushed to me overall, I think it’s still worth the read if you’re in the mood for a sweet and (mildly) spicy holiday story.

The rating here is somewhere between and 3 and a 4 for me, but I generally enjoyed myself thus a round up.

Studmuffin Santa takes place on a reindeer ranch in Central Oregon. I kinda love this set up because my brother and his family have a beef ranch in that same area so I can picture everything the author describes in great detail. I've stayed up there and visited and it's a beautiful area. I also grew up farming so I appreciated the attention to detail in presenting Jade as both caring and knowledgeable when it came to her little herd. I also really like the relationship between Jade and her sister Amber and the way they are making a go at something atypical.

I like Brandon too as the ex marine and big protector guy. I'm not as fond of the has gone from girl to girl but we're expected to believe that this romance changes everything forever issues. I find myself left with worry for Jade that he may not be as healed of his experiences and excesses as he thinks, but that is probably a bit too much thought for the depth this book intends.

I like the couple. I think they go together and dealing with old high school hurts was interesting. The mystery of what's happening on the ranch was pretty shallow and I pegged the troublemaker from the very beginning. It's mostly just something there to up the tension which it does passably but not really well. I'm glad the author added the epilogue instead of leaving the book on the end of the mystery.

Content: This book deserves the steamy rating. There are two explicit sex scenes (which I found highly skipable) a couple of make out scenes and lots of sexy talk and thoughts - IE: fantasizing about licking someone's belly button, etc. Risque without being detailed. There are also more casual fbombs than I generally prefer.

What could be a better Christmas setting than a reindeer ranch?

Jade and her sister, Amber, were working to get their new business, Jingle Bell Reindeer Ranch, running. As a veterinarian, Jade took care of the animals while Amber handled the administrative side. So it was Amber who hired Brandon as Santa. But he was a marine and their age, so not your typical Santa. That turned out to be good for business, though. Thanks to Brandon's looks, there was a lineup of moms taking their kids to see Santa. Jade wasn't happy that Amber hired Brandon because she remembered him as a jock in high school. All the girls had loved him - including Jade. He was quite a player but didn't notice her back then. He sure noticed her now!

This story was not what I expected from the cover. I thought it would be quite steamy. Even though there were some hot moments it's basically a sweet love story with an HEA. But it was suspenseful, too. Mysterious things were happening around the ranch that endangered the livestock and made things tough for the women. Who was doing this? I was surprised to find out.

While I was reading this book, I was caught up in the suspense and was chuckling, too. Loved, loved, loved the ending. Thank you for writing such a sweet, sexy and funny Christmas book.

5 Santa hats for this book.

Brandon, a Marine, isn't anyone's idea of Santa, as evidenced by his chiseled and lack of a white beard. However, when a family emergency results in him going home for the holidays, he's enlisted to do just that, much to Jade's chagrin.

Jade is determined to get her ranch up and running, but when her sister hires a too sexy guy to play Santa, she's not happy at all. Yes, the kids seem to like him, but unfortunately, so do the moms...a little too much.

But when someone seems intent on creating havoc and ruining Jade's dream, Brandon steps in, determined to protect Jade and her reindeer. And as they spend more time together, they begin to bond over shared likes and dislikes, as well as their mutual attraction.

Can Brandon and Jade overcome not only their differences, but the issues they both struggle with that could destroy their future before it even begins? Who is out to ruin Jade's ranch and why? What happens when Brandon must return to duty? Can they make a relationship work? Or was their time together just a present for the holidays? Is a HEA possible?

One-click now and follow along as two people are thrust together for a special project, and realize Christmas is the season for love.

I read Tawna Fenske’s Front and Center series this Summer so when she recently announced that Studmuffin Santa was on sale for 99cents – Yay! Snapped that right up. Then realized I’d rather listen… so I snagged this one on audio. Go marketing!

This was a fun romantic comedy with a little bit of drama and a dash of mystery/suspense. Plus – Christmas! And a reindeer farm! What more could you ask to get in the holiday mood?

What I loved about this is that it isn’t “reformed jerk” – Yes, Brandon was the football-star Senior to Jade’s picked-on Sophomore. However, Brandon was and still is a nice guy, he just didn’t notice Jade when they went to school together. Jade was tormented by other students and though it’s been more than 10 years she still has an icy exterior. Brandon definitely melts her frost.

While not holiday themed, I can’t wait to hear Sean and Amber’s story, Chef Sugarlips.

I enjoyed the narration by Nelson Hobbs and Teri Schnaubelt. They are both terrific narrators and I’m looking forward to hearing them both throughout the series.

This is my third book in a row (this week) that I would absolutely recommend to everyone to read.
This is a funny, romantic, sweet and unique Christmas story.
The whole story, not only takes place on a reindeer range, but also has additional a lot of unexpected complications and excitements.

The book has two covers, you can decide which one you like better 😏
I judged the book by the cover first and was really nice surprised that it wasn't like what I was thinking.
Yeah, yeah...the title and cover looks like we should get a hot and steamy story, but it was definitely not like that. The steamy is of course there, but not much..just a little bit 😂

This book is an emotional journey that describes how much our past sometimes dictates our future.
And how difficult it's to process the past experiences and close that chapter, so that you can bild your future.

I love this book ❤❤❤
It was an amazing written page-turner with all the heartwarming beautiful feelings 🎅🎄☃️❤

Jade and her sister Amber are co-owners of a Reindeer Ranch. Jade takes care of the reindeer and Amber handles the business side. Christmas is a time that they really need to make their mark and get their name out there. Small things are also happening around the ranch (think gates being opened, paperwork going missing, dead car batteries, etc). So, Amber hires Brandon to be both Santa and to keep an eye out for things. Brandon is in the military and is taking a military leave to spend time with his dad and help his cousins renovate their planned resort.
This was nicely paced. I liked both the main leads and Jade's sister Amber. Both have things that they are dealing with in the past (Jade was bullied for how she looked in school and Brandon's mother left and his dad had a major stroke). They do a good job communicating back and forth.
The only thing that could have been better was the acts of sabotage. It's mentioned, but then not really dealt with until (surprise!) the person is caught.
Amber and Sean (Brandon's cousin) are next!

A reindeer farm run by sisters hires a former high school hottie as Santa. Even 15 years later Jade has not forgotten being bullied by the likes of him, and even though he was one of the good guys she is uncomfortably reminded of her "Miss Piggy" years.

This was so Tawna Fenske style: super funny first half, okay second half. However, I had some good laughs and the story went along with likeable characters and a good romance (even though the cries of "take me!" were more ridiculous - unless they were meant as funny, which they were not).
I round it up to a holiday-mood-4-stars.

To all the bullies out there... I hope karma visits you 10 fold!

I really enjoyed reading Jade and Brandon's story. Although both had emotional issues to over come. My heart hurt for them both! But especially for Jade bc like her I was bullied for being different and also like Jade you have to find that inner strength and become the fierce warrior you are! However in this book the mean girls and boys just grow up to be mean, hateful adults! Kids are the cruelest people on earth and if truly mean inside and out sadly It doesn't change with age! Thank goodness Jade has an awesome sister! Brandon truly is one of the good ones! A little mystery, small-town romance, mild sexy times, loads of secondary characters that will make for good stories in this series! I only wish the mean girls and dumb*** bully boys would have gotten some karma in this book! ✌ 2.75

“I wasn’t exactly planning to cap off my snow day by banging Santa.”

So . . . this is not the kind of Christmas story I read to my kiddos at bedtime. Sure, there are some similarities—the chilly winter weather; the reindeer with classic names; the humorous moments that make you want to giggle just a little (or a lot); the presence of Santa.

But there end the similarities. And thank goodness. Because Studmuffin Santa is just the kind of bedtime story that *I* like. Which probably explains why I started it right after I slid between the sheets and closed it only when I’d finished reading it.

Yep, this one was a one-sitting (technically, I was lying down, but you know what I mean) read for me. I loved it. It was playful and fun, and it was sexy. It had laugh-out-loud moments—apologies to my husband, who was trying to actually sleep beside me—and it was all tied together with a cozy little mystery.

But it also held a deeper message, and therein lies one of the reasons Tawna Fenske is one of my favorite authors. Her characters are appropriately quirky, her stories just this side of silly—in the best way—and her humor kind of off the wall, but the heart of her books? It’s solid and it’s deep and it’s relatable.

So, maybe there is one more similarity to those Christmas-themed books I read to my little ones—a warm, loving message about acceptance and kindness and strength, all wrapped up and placed under the Christmas tree with a big bow, a lot of good feelings, and, in this case, one very studly Santa.

It’s the most ridiculous thing in the world as we stand here making silly faces at each other, but I’m aching with the urge to kiss her.
So I do.

so… there were parts i really did enjoy because it’s a cute little christmas rom com…. but man there were parts i really did not like at all… especially the “i love you” timeline! i will always complain about that!! i should have guessed it because it’s a novella but still!!! they didn’t have to say it!!!! they could have just ended up happy together, no need to say those three words after less than a month!!!!! (sorry if anyone reading this has said that to someone romantically after less than a month…)
